Pros:

Anthony was amazing. He is the perfect of example of what customer service should be. There was an issue with the price of the rental. It did not match my reservation. Anthony did not challenge it at all. He immediately got on the phone to try to fix it and did not stop making calls until it was resolved. I appreciated that more than he will ever know.

Cons:

I drove from IA to NV. The change oil came on in Utah.

The employee at the Dubuque, IA Hertz (tall slim guy, with beard) was not friendly and very aggressive. His tune was rude and he was very confrontational. I was talking with him very politely but he would raise his voice for no reason. When I had asked if I could change my vehicle at pick up, he said he didn’t have any other option. Then when I started to probe more and pointed at the vehicles at the lot and asked if any of those were available, he denied. Eventually he said that he’d upgrade it for $50 dollars more, from a sedan to a jeep. When I asked why, he said it was because the upgrade was many levels up from what I had reserved as a medium suv. And then he said he would let me have the jeep. So essentially he didn’t tell me the truth at first and said all cars were reserved but then for a fee he upgraded to a jeep.

Where do I even begin,first of all whoever is answering the phone there needs to be fired he lied to me numerous times!! We got there to pick up our car at 10 am no one there waited half an hour call the number posted this guy said the person would be there in 15 minutes, half an hour later called again ,again he told me they would be right up no show, waited another half an hour no one. Finally call Avid to complain and a lady showed up who told me she doesn't work there but they call her on emergencies finally got the car after waiting almost two hours behind our schedule and almost lost our hotel room in Canada but the clerk said he would wait for us because of our problem . Do not know this person's name because I hardly understood him .I really don't think we will use or recommend this agency again!!

We did not have a full tank of gas, actually only half full. No windshield wiper fluid, wipers were not the best, no manual, and the warning light for key fob was lit the entire time. We wanted a mid- size SUV and the Honda HR-V wasn’t exactly a mid- size; it is considered a sub compact. So very disappointed in the size of the vehicle. And last but not least, we got two reminders, one which was a certified letter reminding us we did not return the car on time. We did return it on time and when we called to clarify, he said it was all taken care of. A week later we got a certified letter saying it wasn’t returned. We never did get an email or text verifying anything. Not cost or return. Very frustrating.

The pickup was terrible. There was only one car in the lot—a convertible—and it had not been cleared of snow or warmed up at all. I was clearly the only customer for the day, it was a car unsuited for the weather, and yet no effort was made to make the situation more customer friendly. There wasn’t even an ice scraper—I had to “borrow” one from family who were dropping me off and frankly, were concerned for my safety.

Slow on filling out contract, car had scratches which I had to get to be noted. Car NOT filled with gas. At check in, car was not in my name, contract done wrong, these are concerns that need attention. Also notice very high mileage on the last 2 cars rented
