The staff member of the rental copany lied about the value of the car when presenting the different insurance options. The price of the insurance was over the top. This was one of my most expensive car rentals ever due to the excessive insurance fee.Reviewed 8 Apr 2024

Pros:Despite our many problems (see below), the staff were relatively friendly and helpful. (For example, the manager provided us with his personal cell number when we called to express our concern that the engine light had gone on and we were afraid of breaking down on a remote road somewhere.)Cons:Our problems were many. Kayak linked us to carrentals.com which announced on their website that the rental price included the liability insurance required by the Mexican government. However, there was nothing mentioning this on the confirmation documents that we received and Economy Rentacar told us that we needed to buy our own policy @ $18 US per day. (They did lower it to about $16 per day after we complained.) They told us that the car we rented was a 2019 model but the registration said it was a 2015 and it looked and ran like it was even older. It had not been cleaned in a very long time and was filthy inside. It had dents, scratches and peeling paint on almost every square inch, really a piece of junk. We have rented cars all over the world and this was by far our worst experience. A bad mark for Kayak and car rentals.com as well, we felt ripped off from beginning to end.Reviewed 30 May 2021

Pros:Staff was helpful and pick up and drop off were good.Cons:The price quoted on Kayak website is not accurate. The cost of about $5/day is really about $23/day because of required insurance, even though other websites covering car rental is Mexico say the insurance is required to be included in quoted prices. Note that they will put a $1500 hold on you credit card for possible car damage even if your credit card covers any damage to the car. Also note that what they call an intermediate car is really a compact. Otherwise interaction with car local company is good. Rental date April 2021.Reviewed 7 May 2021

Pros:Stuff was good, thanks Marco for understanding, but when you return car 1:30 hours later, because its hard to predict traffic-jam in new city in festival day + serpentine 8 hours road before and rental ask you for additional day (but the day before in this great rental was NO cars, despite my booking was 1 month before and only 1 option from rental was - wait please 8 hours! 8 hours !!! ou, and even no appologies or of course compensation) So bad experience at all.Cons:Try to help me to answer after you read previous messageReviewed 12 Nov 2019

Pros:The original price. False, turns out you also have to purchase insurance on top of your insurance (don’t do it), an undisclosed deposit was required, vehicle wasn’t even there to rent even though I booked it weeks in advance, booked in advance and couldn’t get a refund, and if it says there’s an airport location think twice, because it was incorrect. Avoid this place!!!Cons:Airport location, full transparency on pricing, available customer service, vehicles to be available when you pay in advance. It goes on...Reviewed 2 Nov 2019

Cons:Skip this place. They didn’t have a vehicle even though it was booked weeks in advance. They wanted a previously undisclosed deposit that happened to be outrageous. I couldn’t get a refund because I purchased in advance. They said they had a pickup and drop off at the airport, and didn’t find out it was 5 miles out until arriving back at the airport. This whole process was a disaster. I went with Europcar rentals instead, they were transparent, they had an airport location, and they had vehicles available.Reviewed 2 Nov 2019

Cons:Economy car rental in Oaxaca is not at the airport as it says online, have to go downtown to pick up car. There were a number of things wrong with the car, speedometer did not work, one of the front lights didn't work, engine light on. There is an $18/day mandatory insurance added to price. Don't waist your time or moneyPros:Nothing, the place just tries to scam you.Cons:They didn't have a car available when we arrived at the time of our reservation. We were told it would be available 8 hours later. We were then told that if we were willing to pay significantly more (like 5x the originally quoted price) then, alas, they did actually have the car we reserved available. After wasting a long time trying to negotiate something close to what our original quoted price was we eventually gave up and used one of the name brand rental car companies instead. Pros:The car was ok. Not great, but overall they charged us properly.Cons:They didn't have the car we ordered on the day, so we had to wait a day to get it. They then told us there would be an extra charge of $18 per day for liability insurance only which was mandatory but not stated on our initial contract. Overall we ended up paying $50 per day, including the one day I didn't even get a car, and I signed up for $19 a day through the site. Total rip off.....Reviewed 28 Nov 2018

Don't know who to blameCons:I picked a rental company based on presumed availability from the Oaxaca airport. Whether the website was unclear or just plain wrong, there was no kiosk at the airport, no shuttle at the airport, and calls to the company to ask about either were met with strict 'No' answers. Carerentals.com (an Expedia company) was likely, unable or unwilling to help. I had to swallow the entire rental cost (as of now) and rent through a company on-site as a result.Reviewed 7 Nov 2018

What a SCAM!Cons:The limited information on our rental made us not be able to get the car or our money back. Turns out the “hot deal” we got was a scam for a car with more than double the price in the insurance alone. No number to contact anyone, and a relentless inability for a refund.
