Europcar charged me for a scrap mark on a tire. 220$ charge. The tire is perfectly functional and I showed the guy an image of the scrape pre-existing my rental from images I took before I accepted the car. He ignored them and told me to appeal. I know full well they just wanted more money from me and assumed I wouldn't do anything because I had to travel the same day. I will never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. Horrible company. And to add fuel to the fire they charged a surprise insurance fee of 1700$ at checkout when I picked up the car. Pick up what a s*** show, it took nearly two hours, despite early check in and pre reservations. After being talked into an upgrade and quadrupling our original price, we set off! Three hours into the drive we broke down, waited over two hours for roadside assistance in the middle of nowhere with a 4 month old baby, and eventually were told to taxi to our accommodations and that a car would be dropped off to us in the morning. Our accommodations had no potable water, and no cell service. We picked up enough groceries for dinner and breakfast the next morning. After hours back and forth of staff denying that they ever said they would drop us off a car and that we needed to cab to the nearest depot (they couldn’t even book us this cab because we were staying rurally, and again, we had 0 cell service), they finally agreed to drop us off a car. In the end, we went over 24 hours with no vehicle, and 12 without water and food due to Europcar’s negligence. The car they brought us didn’t fit our luggage (the reason we had upgraded was so that our car fit our luggage, and had no GPS (another feature of the original upgrade). Despite bringing evidence of insurance coverage from my credit card, they would not honor the rental. I called my US Mastercard and they confirmed I had insurance coverage. They would not accept it and wanted me to pay €60+ a day for coverage. I had rented from both National and Alamo in the prior week for 2 different trips and I had no issues.
