location breakfast could have been warmer
Nice rooms, comfy bed (if a little firm) and good breakfast. Location is perfect for the west end.
The location was excellent for Glasgow West End with free parking just opposite.Staff were very helpful and hotel clean.
On arrival we had to call booking.com as the hotel had not received the fax! this caused us some delays and great frustration as we were being told we had no booking
Excellent location. Hotel had character. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was outdated and noisy from the nearby elevator.
Location, size of the room breakfast room and service
Easy access to Byres Road and the West End .
the location was especially useful near to the subway and the shops there was a hole in the carpet. the decor was old fashioned.
We enjoyed the stay, and find it easy to reach busses and other transport when we wanted to go to the city or elsewhere. The cleanliness of the room could be better. It was ok the first two days, but after that it was not good.
From my first moment in the hotel the staff were very friendly and helpful. They asked what the occasion was and I told them it was my husbands birthday. We were given a front facing room and a complimentary bottle of champers. I have stayed in numerous hotels over over the world and I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family as I did on Sunday and my mother-in-law is booking.
the best thing about our stay was the breakfast. superb choice and the quality of everything was excellent. the service and attention was second to none. our room was lovely and warm with great facilities.
The front desk was more then helpful.
Clean and comfortable room. Helpful staff. There was noise during the night from the street that disturbed me.
breakfast wonderful, lots of choice. Restaurant exeptional value would have liked better bar facilities but that's a small point
wireless internetthat worked
Cleanliness of rooms and hotel courtesy No
the hotel was comfortable and very welcoming. breakfast was fab
good location, good price, very clean, free WiFi
Only spent one night and my purpose was just that - a place to sleep for the night. It served it's purpose well and was compfortable. I did not need or wish to use any of the facilities so I can't comment on them as I just don't know nothing
Clean, comfortable, efficient Breakfasts adequate but could be better. (Eg nicer bread, more variety) Would push up the cost I guess.
Nice area. The ceiling fell down on us in our room in the night!
Price Poor greeting on arrival - house rules read out with no welcome - a bit like going back to school
Staff were friendly and professional.
The room was quite big, It wasn't really clean and the breakfast was a little bit poor...
The location was the only positive. We didn't want to stay there. The service was a disgrace. The room was tiny and didnt look clean. The fact that im getting charged for a room I didnt feel was sanitory enough to stay in.
dirty, damp, smelly rundown hostel, had to book out after 3 nights to find a real hotel.dont know how they get away with it.should be closed down, its a fire hassard to, no night staff its a joke
Not much! There was no where to park and I had to park the car a quarter of mile down the road, the was no lift, the rooms where in a shabby condition and the shared bathroom facilities where disguisting and to it all off we saw a cockroach in the breakfast suite and when we complained the staff were rude to us. Do not stay at this hotel its horrible!!!!
The breakfast was good. There was no heat in the room. The handles to the heaters had been removed (obviously a budget concern). The blankets had pubic hairs stuck in them. The bed decor looked like it was used in a 70's porno movie.
It was lovely, very clean friendly helpfull staff, one night was not enough. would definitely stay again.many thanks.i there was nothing not to like, a very happy stay.
nohot water in ensuit and either scolding hot or freezing cold in bathroom
the excellent staff service here. no.
The 24hr reception service was very useful as I got in at 4.00am. The signle room was roomy and the shower was one in which you could move around. The breakfast was quite simply awful - served without any regard to what sequence you were eating it in. There was an occassional mechanical noise (quite loud) emanating from just outside the room, which at times was annoying.
Location and very quiet at night No lifts
Good location, friendly and helpful staff. Sheets on single bed were worn out and holed.Room was warm and difficult to ventilate because windows were stuck shut.
Exceptional value for money - great location for shops and restaurants in Byers Road. Clean, comfortable and spacious room. Very quiet. Good breakfast selection. Initial welcome by Receptionist was less than welcoming, but later on she could not have been more helpful with advise and information. No complaints.
Room was lovely and breakfast was good. Breakfast staff were very friendly Receptionist was not overly friendly when we arrived and our breakfast table was really sticky the girl gave it a wipe when I asked for it to be cleaned but I think it was long term stickiness.
Very clean and comfortable Although advertised as parking available, I found it very difficult to park my car, as all the surrounding streets were resident permit parking only. There were a few parking metre's but all were taken and at the metre I could only leave my car for 4 hours.
Decently clean, good location, helpful staff, good internet facilities. Lock on room door could have been more substantial.
Lovely room, disabled facilities on the ground floor, very helpful staff both before our arrival and during our stay. Very limited parking available entry via the back door as there were no signs to the front of the hotel from the car park
Freshly cooked eggs, hot shower, jammy ring biscuits, friendly (and efficient) staff in the morning at breakfast The evening receptionist was neither the friendliest nor the most helpful!
Very close to central Glasgow
We are an American family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children under 3). The location was great since we were 2 minutes from the underground/subway and a short walk to the University campus. There were plenty of eating options all day, including nice restaurants and cafes, but also a pizza shop and a sandwich shop. Parking was easy and cheap (on street for 4BP/day). The street was also quiet and the in-room fridge was useful for making lunches etc. for our kids. We were in a room next to the front door of the hotel with poor sound proofing to the reception. Our bed was very uncomfortable; we felt every spring and it was noisy. The shower was a bit sporadic in temperature. Simply, the room felt cheaply decorated and tired. Regardless, we'd probably stay here again (but ask for a different room if available) since it was a good location and a good price.
The staff were very friendly
Lovely room, nice and big, very clean Staff could be friendlier
Very comfortable. Lovely location overlooking the river Kelvin. Quiet inspite of being very close to Gt. Western Road. Very convenient for Underground station.Full cooked Scottish Breakfast very good!! On street car parking is a bit congested, but we always found a space nearby
The hotel was warm, comfortable and welcoming, the staff attentive and the breakfast couldn't be faulted
Clean and tidy no problems except the TV was a bit dodgy. TV
easy to find, close to where i needed to be, clean, friendly
I have stayed there before, the staff were as always friendly and helpful and this time I even had hot water in the shower. the sound insulation is not the best, later in the night I could hear the couple in the next room being intimate, so I will definitely book this hotel again next time I am in town :)
Friendly, comfortable, good breakfast
The location, comfortable bed....and decent cooked breakfast.
The website said it was close to the Royal Concert Hall but I didint think it was! Nice wee guest house though, very clean and nice lilis in reception! We really liked the comfy bed and the fact to could come and go without weird looks (we were at a concert till late). The guest house was relaxed and calm and breakfast was nice although it would have been nicer if breakfast wasn't so quiet; me and my friend found ourselves giggling away like school children in a library! Overall I would definately go back, shower was hot, tea and coffee in room and nice staff:-) A bit quiet at breakfast and would have preferred breakfast to go on until 11 to sleep more.
nice cosy room
Staff were very friendly. The room was quite small and "old fashioned" - but adequate for 1 night stay.
proximity to university and city; room was clean and comfortable and the cooked breakfast was good. cold shower most mornings; apart from the room virtually no other facilities. no atmosphere to the place.
The Manager was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fairly good apart from the bacon being cold. The bathroom was fairly modern and clean and the beds had nice fresh white bedding. As a hotel we expected a lounge bar and a restaurant/cafe but there were neither and therefore we feel should not be called a Hotel but a Guest House. The room was very dusty - I had to dust light fixtures, dressing table, bedside tables etc which had not been done for probably a few weeks judging by the depth of the fluff and dust. The cushions on the bed were also dusty. Unfortunately the water when we showered in the morning was cool/cold unfortunately. It had been warm the night before when I tested it.
I booked online for £55 and was charged £80 when I got there!
the oom vey spacious and clean one staff member in resteraunt oriental woman, not very feindly at breakfast ,didnt no difference from bacon sandwich to toasted bacon ,
Good location with parking Last breakfast is far too early - 9am even at weekends!!. Should be 10.30 for holiday bookings.
Staff were very helpful. Room was well appointed and large. Food was excellent. Bathroom and shower small.
Its location. The amount of stairs. There was no lift.Unstuitable for people with walking difficulties.
Staff friendly. Room recently decorated to a good standard. Breakfast good. Unfortunately hotel was being decorated causing strong smell of paint. Room access meant climbing very steep stairs. This should be mentioned at time of booking
The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, even when we were late for breakfast they did not make a fuss. To be honest, 9.00am last call for breakfast on a Sunday I thought was a bit on the early side, 10.00am would have been more acceptable. Good value for money is what we wanted. £118 for a double room for two nights (booked on-line).
Very clean, nice and warm with adjustable heating in the bedroom. pleasant dining room with good cooked breakfast. bathroom had been refurbished to high standard but this was let down by the only heat coming from a wall mounted electric heater - if the floor tiles had underfloor heating it would have been superb. Also the window was frosted with net curtains but no blind or curtains to close for privacy.
The hotel room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was horrible. Very greasy and bland.
Clean, good value for money, friendly staff
The Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was clean and well maintained. All in all a really good place to stay in Glasgow.
Room stank of stale nicotine (including the bedlinen); couldn't get to window without climbing over bed. Carpet and walls grotty.
My partner and I were only there for a night. Luckily for me, my work paid for it, however, for the £86 it cost, it was not value for money at all. In fact it was very over-priced. I have stayed in London, in a much more luxurious room for less money. Location was the only good part of the stay, but the room was just a bed and a sink. The showers are communal, as is the toilet, therefore not wanting to spend any extra time that we have to in the room. Over-all very poor service from the reception staff, not very good value for money, but good location.
The location. Size of the room.
Location More than I can summarize.
The hotel was in a good location The hotel was very basic, no bar facilities. No toiletries and breakfast isn't on for long enough. There is no lift and the stairs are steep and narrow.
I had a room where I could sleep quiet. A staff member in dinning room behaved inappropriately. She gave me one I did not order and when I reported to her about mistake behaved rudely at me. I have reported this matter to management of Smith's Hotel. The room was untidy and looked ugly. Not enough light; of two bulbs only one was in working condition.
I enjoyed the quality and cleanliness of the bathroom. The noise of other visitors and staff alike that woke me up during the night/early in the morning, the quality of staff, the small room
Nice bathroom. No hassle from staff Leaking roof, carpet needed cleaning - lots of stains, poor tv reception, 4 beds and only one chair! Sheets didn't fit the double bed. Smell that indicated someone had been smoking in the room (lots of fag ends stubbed out on the roof.
it was warm shower was burning hot or freezing cold
Staff were friendly. First room had a horribly heavily stained beige carpet. I was offered another room when I complained but it was also very very very unclean - heavily stained green carpet, could not take shoes off. Kettle did not work. Had to ask for a new one. There was no soap and also had to ask for it.
The hotel was in a great local, only a 5 minute taxi from city center, excellent value for money!
Centrally located good links to city centre Cant think of anything
The hotel is a beautiful old house with a number of really nice features: the staircase, light fittings etc. It is in a really good location for getting around and about. We booked a twin room and a single room: I think the twin room was fine the issues were mainly with the single room had it's kettle on the floornext to the waste bin, there was no remote for the tv, the toilet seat was broken and loose (when I showed the housekeeper she said yes we know about that! Doh; the toilet had a crack in it; the twin room had free view the single room didn't; non of the furniture in the single room fitted together and looked as if the owners had taken various bits and pieces and put them together; between the bedside drawers, dressing table, the drawaers on the dressing table and the wardrobe not one piece matched another! The housekeeping left a little to be desired -although given that there was only one young woman in the house it probably couldn't be helped and she was very helpful. Finally the continental breakfast hmmm just some of the highlights, sliced bread, processed ham, cheese triangles...
Good location, very friendly staff, and an old building with character. The building has definitely seen better days, and repairs and renovations were shoddily done. It made my fingers itch to get out some sandpaper and a brush!
A clean and nicely presented Guest House and in a good location. Very noisy, both traffic and grups of people until the early hours.
Hotel manager is almost single handedly running hotel and is really helpful. Location is great for West End. Surrounding area is nice. It is run down and needs serious decorative attention - character is great in a hotel, but this one needs a major overhaul. Breakfast is poor and badly presented. No hairdryer, bathroom small and dark, water system very noisy. poor ventilation.
Own car park was a big plus, pleasant greeting on arrival, superb location in a very nice part of Glasgow. Room overlooked a very busy main road. With only single glazed windows it was very noisy at night due to the constant traffic noise.
We had a very pleasant stay, made comfortable by a very friendly welcome, convenient location for eating out, next to Botanic Gardens, within easy walking distance of Kelvingrove.
Location was great, simple but adequate breakfast. The hall carpet was very good The room was a little tired. But the staff were very friendly.
Handy location for west end, very friendly staff.
Staff and welcome were excellent. location is superb location if you want the west end and easy access to underground. bed was very comfortable. great to have free parking included. No wifi available which exacerbated the fact the tv which was very old needed replacing as the tube was going.
situated by the beatiful park and the university, the location is very convinient to town and the airport the room was big but apparently, the radiator is poor, and the room was quite cold
It was cheap. Attempting to update but has a long way to go with room. Reception was a smokey bedroom. Dining room improvements good. Location very good for centre and SECC. Area could be excellent next to park but still very run down but appears to be improving. Lots of litter and run down buildings. Not very inspiring for visitors to Glasgow. Bed comfortable. Fine for 1 night theatre trip but would not stay any longer. Was surprisingly quiet. Broken down wardrobe. Wallpaper and decor very poor. Cheap teabags. Nothing to sit on apart from bed.
the location and the price were great
The staff was just amazing. Everyone there was so helpful and friendly. I really felt like home. The breakfast could have more options. but other than that it was a really great stay.
Friendly staff, good facilities and a nicely presented room. The hotel is in a very convenient location for exploring Glasgow.
Very cheap and cheerful!! Decor and leaves a lot to be desired!!
good local pub decor poor
Fantastic location. The decor, fixtures and fittings have seen better days but it is amazing value for money given its quiet and pleasant location next to Kelvingrove Park. Have been before and would go again. Must mention Tracey who is always very helpful. Everything looks a bit tired but to be expected at this price.
the room was large .thebeds were clean .the location was quiet towels not changed but for the money good value
Friendly staff. Comfortable beds.
