Ruined our VacationCons:I reserved a car for Cleveland - Hopkins International Airport Shuttle to Car for 114.00. When we arrived I was told after some computer searching by the Hertz attendant that our reservation was at another location about 20 min away. I NEVER would have reserved a car at a remote location and I searched specifically for the airport pick up or by shuttle to the lot. The remote location would not answer their phone (because they were closed) and the airport Hertz said they would give me a car but it would be 485.00! The final straw was that the girl actually laughed when she saw how much more the car would cost. We also ran into another person on our trip that had the EXACT same problem at the Hertz counter at the airport. Their reservation was earlier in the day so they were able to Uber to the other location but they were very unhappy as well. I tried to get help from Hertz Corporate but only got a generic email that they would be in touch within 3 days and I have not heard back almost a week later. Kayak made the rental at the wrong locationPros:Nothing, we had to cancel the reservation.Cons:The Kayak misled me to book the reservation at a location that was not the airport. When we arrived at the airport, though there were available vehicles, they could not transfer the reservation. After 45 minutes on the phone trying to move the reservation to the correct location, they could only cancel. To rebook at the current location was going to cost 3x as much as the original booking. Eventually, we just used a different app to book a reservation at a different company, for close to the original price.Reviewed 24 Sep 2017

Pros:That location needs more staff; the one person working the desk always seemed very tense, and didn't communicate very well ( different people on pickup and drop off). They were so overwhelmed that the fuel level was just written down as full without checking, I went out to get in and saw that it was less than half; the guy who accompanied me out agreed that it was, but then went I came back a week later with the fuel at precisely the same level as when I received it, the guy there seemed to think it was supposed to be full. So glad I took a picture to be able to correct him. (What if I had allowed him to just send me an email later and not check the car when I was there as he suggested?) Also didn't appreciate my cc number being written out on paper, along with the 3 number code and not even explaining the need for that. Maybe this location could get in the late 20th century and use the tech available to not have to do that? Honestly, this was just one grumpy and tense place; I'll not use this location ever again.Cons:Hertz needs to have more staff and needs to stress the communication skills that make customer service the linchpin of rental services and invest in technology to keep cc numbers safer.Reviewed 13 Oct 2019

Horribly Conned by HertzPros:Absolutely nothing.Cons:I attempted to pick up the car I prepaid 2-weeks in advance but was told that I had to give them an additional $200 when I got there. I did not have any additional money. I was made to call Hertz corporate from the pick up location where I was told that they have the ability to waive that $200 but are choosing not to. They then cancelled my reservation and charged me a cancellation fee that was almost the same amount I prepaid then told me that it would take 10 days to refund the difference. So, Hertz left me stranded without a car and without money to go rent somewhere else. I have filed with the BBB and the Ohio Attorney General.Reviewed 29 Apr 2018

Pros:The car was clean and I didn't have to wait too long at pickup which has been an issue in the past.Cons:I picked the car up at the airport. Upon pickup the girl told me that I should drop it off downtown (20 miles away). I told her that was an error and I was picking up and dropping off at the airport. She indicated that she understood and would fix the issue. When I dropped off the car at the airport it became clear the first employee had not corrected their records. I was told that I should have dropped the vehicle downtown. I explained that was inaccurate and an error on their end but they ended up charging me an additional $20 which I didn't have time to dispute because I was running late for my flight by this point.Reviewed 4 Apr 2017

An absolute travesty from start to finishPros:SLIGHTLY better than walking across Cleveland with my luggage at midnight. SLIGHTLYCons:Despite selecting the Cleveland-Hopkins airport as my pick up and destination, my car was placed at a hotel 22+ miles from the airport, this being my first time to Cleveland I didn't realize the address was not at the airport until far too late. Also, they closed at 6pm, so when my flight was delayed I was unable to pick up my car until the next day. Hertz offered to switch my rental to the airport site for ONLY an ADDITIONAL $398.00. Yep, Four hundred dollars just to change locations. So I had to take a lift to my hotel, one back to pick up the car, and a third after I dropped it off back to the airport, still 22 miles away.`My "really good deal" completely evaporated in wasted time and $75 in lyft trips. Then it took 30+ minutes just to get my car once I finally made it to the hotel. On top of all this the car was filthy and poorly maintained. I will not be renting with hertz or kayak ever again. Also a side note, never prepay. it completely eliminates your ability to change plans or negotiate, even if the problems are not your fault.Reviewed 26 Jul 2018

Kayak rate not charged at counterPros:Clean car - al in great shape At drop off - very smooth, well trained and friendly, polite check in staffCons:When picking up car, rate Hertz attempted to charge was 30% higher than rate I had booked. Booked $49 (& change) rate on Kayak. Confirmation indicated that I was charged full daily rate of rental and charge included all taxes and fees. At rental counter, they indicated full charge of approx. $65. After booking, card was actually charged approx. $35 (rental only) and there was an additional $30 in taxes/fees due at the counter. After 45min and a phone call with supervisor, they agreed to only charge me the additional (approx) $15, bringing my rental to the original $49.xx cost. Hertz claims that additional CLE airport fees were not included in original quote, they agreed to waive that for me at that time to get rate down to original rate that I booked. Big time waster and frustrating experience overall. First time booking car with Kayak after years of trouble-free bookings on other sites. Pros:Car rental was set for 6:00-- I arrived to the lot at 6:02 as a function of traffic and work. No-one was there to be found as they had closed at 6:00 on the dot which is interesting since this was my pickup time (how can you close at 6 and also rent a car at 6?). Anyways, I called "customer no service" who refused to help me in any fashion. They would not find me a comparable truck anywhere nearby without significant fees. The best they could offer was to replace my $298 rental for a >$600 rental, which is in no way comparable. Needless to say, I ate the loss and rented a car with enterprise. I will never use Hertz or this location again and I'd advise you do the same.Cons:EverythingReviewed 10 May 2021

Pros:When I first arrived at the rental counter at Cleveland/Hopkins airport, the clerk informed me my rental had been made at another Cleveland location miles away. When I asked if there was anything she could do to help me she imphaticaly said no. A supervisor happened to be there and came to my rescue. She was wonderful. The first clerk was not going to even try to help or ask the supervisor if anything could be done. To her, the mistake and inconvenience didn't matter. Once the supervisor helped things went well and quick. My return person was great!Cons:Perhaps train clerks in regards to customer service. They appear to have NO desire to help solve problems. Pros:Staff were great & made it smooth & easyCons:Somehow I reserved the car for suburban Cleveland not at the airport. The address said Cleveland so I didn't catch the mistake.
