Hertz was AMAZING! The 3rd party insurance not so much. I’m sure it was somewhere in the fine print, that I would have been reimbursed for any out of pocket claim costs, but luckily I was able to cancel it and purchase insurance through Hertz for just $10 more than that 3rd party dealer. The staff was helpful and gave us 3rd driver fee for free, and worked with us on what tupe of van suits us. Offered us the Toyota Pro-Ace that gave us a more suitable seating and luggage space. I will always choose Hertz from now on for my car rental needs.Reviewed 20 Sept 2026

Due to wildfire closing the route I was taking I needed to cancel for safety. Despite multiple routes of attemp, could not make contact with a real human at the site. Still waiting for response to get refunded. Will still use Kayak next time, just not Hertz!Reviewed 19 Sept 2026

Pick up truck rental was dirty both inside and out, windshield and back windows filthy, bed of truck had dirt, rocks, plastic utensils and metal objects, tire wheel wells dirty with dried mud, dash board low tire pressure cane on for the rear right tire. Hertz Clerk asked how was the truck rental and when I mentioned the above, her reply was okay. No care in the world or apology.Reviewed 18 Sept 2026

~ The first car I was given had a huge wad of used (yuk!) paper towels in the front as soon as I opened the door ~ It was full of leaves/tree debris on the floors ~ The back seats were lowered with more outside debris ~ The back passenger side door had a big clump of some sort of oily looking gunk (gross!) ~ The outside of the car was filthy ~ It didn't have a full tank of gas ~ This car was a big Jeep Wrangler even though I told the rep I was using the car for a formal wedding weekend, meaning getting in and out of the Jeep with high heels and a long formal dress would be difficult. ~ I asked to please give me a clean and more suitable vehicle ~ He did have the car cleaning tech take it to the back to clean it, but the gunk on the back door was still there as well as the filth in the backseat ~ I asked for another car ~ The second car I got, The Kia Niro, was nice to drive, however it too was DIRTY! ~ The outside and inside were both so dirty, I told the rep, so I had to wait (again), and even though the inside was vacuumed nicely, the outside of the car remained dirty and not washed ~ It took about half an hour AFTER my account was processed to just wait around while the cleaning attendant "cleaned" the carsReviewed 17 Sept 2026

As it seems with most rental companies hertz counter reps seem to have been instructed to try and fool you into buying something that isn't mandatory by saying there are "additional taxes and fees". In this case I had declined all additional insurance since I carry my own automobile insurance and credit card CDW. The hertz desk then took 15 minutes of me standing there waiting for a car to be lined up and then said I owed $50 more dolllars for additional "taxes and fees", this turned out to be their LIS or liability insurance. I asked what the additional fee was and they said it was taxes and fees and did not explain it was liability insurance. I then checked later to find this out. I initially tried to connect with support but just got an AI agent that never connected me with anyone. Overall this left a bad taste in my mouth and showed Hertz is using same deceptive playbook as most rental car companies with hidden fees.Reviewed 14 Sept 2026
