If you’re after a boutique experience, Bluemont Hotel is one the best hotels in Manhattan, Kansas to book. There are 112 luxury guestrooms and suites – my top pick is the spacious King Suite, which comes with a separate area for working in.

The Bluemont is where a lot of locals come for a pre-game hangout, and when the American football is on this is the place to meet people. The party then often moves upstairs to the hotel’s rooftop bar.

But my favourite spot has to be Goolsby’s, where you’ll find plenty of food and games. I happily spent a few hours bowling here when I visited. The hotel is pet friendly too and has a great new gym with all the latest equipment.

With only 75 guestrooms and suites, this is one of the best hotels to stay in Manhattan, Kansas if you’re looking to be close to the Linear Trail Manhattan trail head. It’s nothing fancy, but the guestrooms all have microwaves and fridges, which I find super convenient.

There’s a communal fireplace to gather around during the winter, and a lovely patio for good weather days (my favourite season here is autumn). Pets are allowed and breakfast is included, but the town is close by so you can find plenty of other great places for a meal. It’s a lovely, walkable place that I always enjoy strolling around.

Since Manhattan is in the Flint Hills area, you’re also close to the Flint Hills Discovery Center, which is dedicated to the preservation of Flint Hills and the tall grass prairie. It’s a must-visit.

This is one of the best hotels in Manhattan for business travellers, with plenty of work-focussed amenities. All of the guestrooms and suites are delightfully spacious and come with great ergonomically designed desks that make hitting the computer for a few hours a breeze.

There’s a lovely indoor pool and fitness centre, plus a hot tub. The hotel serves a simple, free buffet and continental breakfast but I’d recommend heading to a hip local coffee shop if you want specialised coffee. Arrow Coffee or Flight Crew are my top picks.

One of my favourite discoveries in this town is that Damon Runyon, the ‘Inventor of Broadway’, is from here. You can visit his house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places – it's just a few minutes from the hotel.

If you’re in town for something at the conference centre, this is one of the best hotels in Manhattan to go for. The Hilton Garden Inn Manhattan is located right in the city centre near Kansas State University and is connected to the Manhattan Conference Center – which is where a lot of the action in this little town takes place. The hotel is also within walking distance from Flint Hills Discovery Center.

The guestrooms and suites are simple but well-equipped. I’m a big fan of the suites, as they offer a little extra space for the whole family to hang out. The free parking and pet friendliness were added bonuses on my road trip through here with my dog. If you need a drink, head to ​​The Garden Grille & Bar downstairs, where the bartenders are young and friendly.

Comfort Suites Manhattan is a simple, highly affordable property. It’s also a great option if you need to be close to the Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK), as it’s just a few minutes away and they provide free airport transportation.

There’s a wide range of guestrooms and suites to choose from – I recommend going for a King Suite if you’re looking for a little extra space. The suites also come with microwaves and fridges. If you’re here in winter, you’ll definitely appreciate the hotel’s heated indoor pool.

In terms of location, the hotel is close to the Manhattan Arts Center, where you’ll find plenty of entertainment like theatrical productions and concerts – check the schedule on their website to see what’s on while you’re in town.

This hotel is conveniently located right on the edge of Kansas State University and in the centre of Aggieville. It’s one of the best hotels in Manhattan to book if you’re planning on visiting the college or exploring the oldest shopping district in Kansas.

The guestrooms are spacious and pet-friendly, and some come with flexible workspaces. While you’re in town, don’t miss the Yuma Street Historic District. It’s listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is well worth exploring for nightlife, dining and shopping.

This is the freshest and newest hotel in town, and I liked that it felt a little more special than other spots in the area. It’s also a short drive to Bramlage Coliseum, Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Flint Hills Discovery Center and Fort Riley – all worth exploring.

If you need to be right on campus, this is one of the best hotels in Manhattan. A sleek, contemporary design hotel right by the Kansas State University, it’s set in the Flint Hills about 15 minutes from Ft. Riley. You can also walk to Aggieville from here, where most of the university activities take place.

The guestrooms and suites are basic but clean and comfortable. The Holiday Inn Manhattan at the Campus can also offer connecting rooms if you’re travelling with family. I loved using the free weights in the hotel gym and getting in some laps in the indoor pool during my stay.

The on-site restaurant, Houlihans, is a popular spot with locals and visitors alike. Plenty of those coming to campus end up hanging out here, so it’s a great place to meet people.

Those in town on a business trip should head to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Manhattan. It’s set within a few minutes of Caterpillar, Quaker Oats, Kansas Air Center, AIB International, National Bio and the Agro Defense Facility, making this one of the best hotels in Manhattan for those visiting for work.

The guestrooms and suites are clean and simple, with the option to choose a double queen or king bed in the suites. As I was road-tripping on my visit, I appreciated the EV charging at the hotel.

I also noticed that the property was very focussed on accessibility, so this is a great place to stay for those with accessibility needs. But my favourite thing about this hotel – since I’d been on the road for a long time – is their on-site self-service laundry.

For a simple, affordable spot right above Manhattan city centre, the Candlewood Suites is hard to beat. The location is ideal, as it’s right off of Fort Riley Boulevard and Highway 18.

You can also stroll to the Flint Hills Discovery Center next door. Don’t miss their Sunset Zoo, where you’ll find a lovely butterfly garden and get to spot cheetahs, leopards and anteaters.

My favourite thing about this property is the full kitchens in the suites, as I usually prefer to cook my own meals while on the road. My top pick is a King Suite, which comes with a little more room for stretching out.

All the suites have been freshly redone with great contemporary finishes. The hotel doesn’t offer daily room cleaning, but can arrange it weekly – it’s worth asking about it at the check-in desk.
