Pros: Breakfast was excellent, good varied selection on offer, freshly cooked. perfect location within easy walking distance of the many attractions on offer.

Pros: Ideally sited in the heart of Matlock Bath, where the Sunday motor bike meet is a must. Matlock Bath has 8 fish & chip shops and 4 sweet shops and the atmosphere is electric. Riverside walks, cable cars up to The Heights of Abraham and within minutes of Crich Tramway Village and beautiful scenery. Paula and Sean/Shaun are the perfect hosts, friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast is to die for! My room had a really comfortable bed. There was off-road parking right outside the front door.
Cons: Unfortunately there was only 1 chair in the room which was wooden and very uncomfortable and no table top (except the small one with the kettle and tea tray in the very corner of the room) that I could sit at to read or write my postcards. The only other grumble I had was that the shower head was very grimy.

Cons: Nothing we didn't like, just a few details to be aware of: 1) Tight parking spaces, but this was overcome by having great instructions for how to park from the host 2) Bathtub is mini so my husband didn't enjoy a relaxing soak, but I'm smaller so didn't have the same challenge :)

Pros: The location was excellent and so easy to walk into the town centre or stroll beside the river. The staff were very welcoming and we sat in the lovely garden to unwind for a while. The room was lovely but situated at the top of the property got rather warm overnight but can't blame our hosts for the hottest July day on record!! A ceiling fan did help a bit

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were looked after very well by the team, Irina and Sonia. Will go back again any time
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Charming property and grounds
Cons: We were kept in the hall when we arrived - on the hottest day of the year - while we were asked to select breakfast items on a rather confusing form We just wanted our keys so we could go up and rest. We could have dropped our order down afterwards. Rooms lovely, comfortable. Staff very friendly.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Easy access to town and parking
Cons: Not much but perhaps a little dated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast! Owners and staff were very kind and helpful, giving useful indications while we were visiting Matlock and surroundings. Very confortable beds and silent nights. We also enjoyed our dinner in the beautiful garden (if it wasn't raining, of course).
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were most welcoming immediately upon our arrival. They were clearly under pressure as they had lost several staff, but nothing was too much trouble. Our friends' room was immaculate, but we were unfortunately placed in a room that had not been serviced. It was clearly an oversight/error and they could not have dealt with it a more professional manner. We were swiftly moved along the corridor, and subsequently enjoyed a lovely stay. The breakfast menu was extensive and well prepared, with our friend's gluten intolerance easily catered for. With the late afternoon sun, we all enjoyed a stroll down to the private river frontage at the bottom of the garden. We will certainly return.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Property has lots of character and our room was charming. Lovely garden. Well located for many places of interest.
Cons: Narrow vehicular access to property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic room, lovely breakfast, a perfect luxury suite for a peak district holiday. The proprietor was very friendly, and gave us extensive and useful advice as to day activities. The hotel is well situated on a quiet road and the garden itself is incredible.
Cons: This is not really a problem, because this location is not really meant for pedestrians. If you have a car, the location is incredible. If not, then you'll either spend a lot of time hiking or waiting for busses.

Pros: The gardens were beautiful, the accomodation was comfortable and breakfast lovely. Easy parking and extremely quiet location. Tea coffee facilities and some nice extras with biscuits chocolates.
Cons: The toilet flush was challenging and the bedding and towels a little tired.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfasts were fine - all cooked to order. |Kippers were a bit disappointing - would have liked a whole one on the bone. Location was perfect for us - attending a function nearby, and clearly very handy to explore other attractions in the vicinity.
Cons: We ought to have stayed for longer. Our host Alan Clements, was clearly such a fascinating character that we would have liked to have had more time to get to know him better, and hear more about his life.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We did not know the significance of the name Cascades Gardens. These were a labour of love by the owner who had travelled extensively in the Far East and brought a lot of cultural influences to it. Very charming house as well with a great array of decorations. The host was most friendly and helpful with information on meals and walks in the area. A good choice of 2 local pubs and several restaurants in the area. Well worth visiting.
Cons: The entrance off the road is very narrow and constricted.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff, beautiful inn and great food
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Ambiance and the friendliness of the staff. The food was excellent and an average price for the fare provided (£20 for filet steak etc.). A decent enough selection of beers and lagers and even though a busy period, we found a table and confortable chairs. The room was big enough with a comfortable bed, with the usual complimentary bits and pieces. A quiet location and only a 10 minute drive to Matlock (Bath or the Main town) for other entertainment.
Cons: Nothing to dislike but the bathroom in room '2' was a little cramped. You could sit on the loo and wash your hair in the sink at the same time..! The shower, however was very good, so decided not to..!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room was very clean and adequate for one night for single traveller.
Cons: Had to ring hotel in their car park to gain access at 4pm. Owner came out said his manager out and not back yet. No proper welcome. After confusing start found room cold and had to put radiator on. Room ok but small and only one armchair. Room clean and new carpets but no tissues supplied or biscuits Breakfast was the big disappointment. Freezing cold dining room. No waitress taking order. Young Breakfast chef pointed to small table with only two packet cereals and a yoghurt offered. No fresh fruit! No croissants. Instead of taking our order for cooked breakfast straight away brought 2 small slices of toast and hot drinks that were cold by time cooked breakfast came. No menu available nor did he offer anything until we asked what was on menu. He said had no tomatoes and they didn’t do croissants. Fried eggs ordered over cooked and one had yolk split. Both looked reheated and unattractive. Bacon very hard and not freshly cooked. He had No idea of table service nor asked if we were happy with his offerings. I told him not impressed with food and he offered anew but so cold in the room we left.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent, good portion size and price. Room was comfortable and clean.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very central to most attractions ideal spot. Highly recommend Andy and partner very good company.
Cons: Food could of been little better quality.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Our room was beautiful and the pub food was great. Dining room was a lovely area to take meals and staff were friendly and helpful. Fantastic breakfast too. Great beer!
Cons: Toilet too close to the sink! Hardly room to sit down. Everything else was wonderful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were welcoming and helpful, suggesting other places to eat on Sunday night when their own restaurant was closed. We enjoyed a very nice meal at The Jug and Glass on the Saturday night and the breakfasts were also good. We liked the quiet village location which was handy for visiting Matlock, the Heights of Abraham, Cromford, Chatsworth etc. The surrounding area is great for walkers and cyclists.

Barringtons - Matlock - Building
14
8.7 Excellent (368 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The friendly barringtons is a Grade II listed building with free Wi-Fi, good breakfasts, and excellent food. Near the Peak District, Matlock is a 5-minute drive away. Each spacious room at barringtons has a 32-inch flat-screen TV and tea/coffee. There is a large garden with a seating area. The oak-panelled restaurant serves a popular, modern menu and barringtons has a cosy lounge bar. Many original Victorian period features remain at barringtons.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff and welcoming feeling. Tea facilities in room. The support they gave us the next day after our long walk when we were stranded as lost car keys. Girl on bar last night was so helpful when we asked if we could possibly wait there u til our husbands came to rescue us. We had walked a marTha. And were wet and e haunted do please thank the young lady. She did you proud
Cons: The room was hot and you don’t offer any fans which would have given us a more comfortable night
7.5 Good
Pros: Excellent location and excellent food. The room was small, but comfortable. The Pub/Restaurant (for that is what it is) is located in Darley Dale, on the A6, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Darley Dale Station is a short walk (heritage railway run by Peak Rail, but formerly a mainline route to Manchester, before Beeching/Marples wrecked the UK rail network). The food is truly excellent, but the Dining Room was stuffy on an, admittedly, extremely hot day.
Cons: The room was very small, and it was quite noisy until around 11.30 pm. The hotel is situated on the A6, and near a pelican crossing, which was continually sounding its siren during day time hours. There was no way, that I could find, to turn off the TV light, so it blazed all night. There is no formal check in facility, you simply have to announce your arrival at the bar!
6.3 Good
Pros: Excellent location, staff were pleasant , bed comfortable, food very good and excellent value.
Cons: Staff were lovely but slow to deliver menus after we had asked for them twice. .Bed room was lovely but not really clean , lots of dust on the headboard and side tables . Dust under the bed and hairs from previous guests on the carpet.

9.5 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was excellent. Bathroom was very clean. Bed was very very comfy. Staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent! Drinks in the bar were a little expensive. Would definitely stay there again!
Cons: Woken by a dog barking and bounding around in the room above me very early after a very late boozy night!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was standard institutional, so OK. Dinner was good. One of the young bartenders carried our cases up, and was helpful with parking. I hate showers so would have welcomed a bath; next time I'll ask for a room with one. After a long car journey from Cambridge I found the atmosphere soothing. The WIFI in the bedroom worked well: I am a research mathematician so internet links are important for me. The staff generally were pleasant and helpful. The hotel had just the right atmosphere for me, so I'll hope to come again. The prices were very reasonable, so please don't put them up !
Cons: I can't think of anything, other than the shower versus bath problem.

7.5 Good
Pros: Superb location, impressive building, indoor swimming pool.
Cons: Breakfast was good, but extremely disorganised and slow. Had to wait half an hour for toast on the first morning, and hot buffet ran out of food on all three days and took a while to be replaced each time.
7.0 Good
Pros: Bar provisions were below par from our point of view but as Christian fellowship run hotel not necesarilly priority facility however lounge was well laid out and breakfast was more than adequate
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautiful location
Cons: Only stayed one night so difficult to say
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Willersley Castle Hotel is situated in a very scenic location. The main building is quite pituresque, and the Mews, where my room was located, was quite nice as well. The breakfast buffet was good. One aspect of my stay I particularly enjoyed was the swimming pool.
Cons: Not a serious drawback, just good to know, WiFi is not available everywhere.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful countryside, walks around castle and nearby cotton mill and canal walk.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Clean & everything that you need. The property is old and would benefit from an overhaul but it is perfectly adequate.
Cons: Decorating & general maintenance could do with a makeover/refresh.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location peaceful and quiet amazing views as its set on top of a hill clean rooms and excellent facilities
6.8 Good
Pros: Location, location, location! This hotel is in a beautiful, picturesque spot and is in an interesting listed building, but the interior is a bit run down and old-fashioned. It felt more like an institution than a hotel and in fact is something to do with the Christian Guild, so that may well be the reason for that. The rooms we were given - I could only book the standard double room as the hotel was full - did not resemble the quality of those shown on the booking.com website and the bathroom was very tired and had crumbling tiles in the shower. However, it is not an expensive hotel, so perhaps it is fair enough that it's not that swanky. I would say the location is what I most like about this hotel. The other thing I really liked is the swimming pool, which is in a purpose-built cabin that is a walk up a steep hill from the hotel.
Cons: The breakfast was probably the worst breakfast I've ever experienced in a hotel. We arrived at 9.30am and every single table was either already taken or had used plates/ cutlery piled up and all the hot food had gone, all the jugs of juice were empty, almost all the glasses/ bowls/ plates gone. We sat down at an table piled high with dishes and as nobody came to clean the table or speak to us, I went to reception and complained about the chaos of the breakfast hall. I would say the staff were very nice, polite and tried to be helpful, but they were clearly overwhelmed on this particular morning; perhaps not enough staff on shift. They did eventually cook us some food to order, which was fine, but it was slow and not very relaxing or pleasant to sit in that environment.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location Good breakfast Clean rooms no
Cons: No meals in lounge on Friday night Menus on show Not advise when booking in
5.8 Okay
Pros: Great location, ideal for a few nights but not more. Very friendly staff at reception!
Cons: Had a room in the old stables. No wifi at all! Bed was very uncomfortable as well as the pillows. Bathroom was not very clean. Breakfast was very basic, had to wait quite long for the eggs to be filled up.

Pros: Friendly staff, great breakfasts and convivial atmosphere. Great restaurant too.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Lovely staff. Excellent food, especially the breakfast. The family room went down particularly well with our little one as it has a sunken single room. The dividing door went down well with the parents too!
Cons: Lack of plug sockets by the bed
8.3 Excellent

Cons: Noise from traffic especially early in the morning

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff who were really helpful. The food and breakfast was delicious. Very quaint hotel in the Peak District.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The hotel is close to Matlock Bath. The four poster bed was comfortable. Bottled water, crisps and chocolates were in the room which was a nice touch.
Cons: Before we had even arrived, the hotel called and said they’d tried to take payment from my card but failed and did we still want to stay because “people had been phoning asking for a room” - I was surprised because we were meant to pay at the property - I wasn’t aware they’d try and charge my card before we had even arrived and seen the room. Our room was £125 a night so I asked if breakfast was included because I’d forgotten and the man on reception said yes. When we came back after having been out for a couple of hours he then said it wasn’t included - I felt seeing as he’d said it was already, that they’d include it as a courtesy. We found the staff to be quite indifferent, bordering on rude. Only one window would open in the bedroom (it was a hot and stuffy night) and when we mentioned it, politely, in the morning, the lady said “well there is a fan in the room” rather rudely. It gave a bit of a bad taste to the whole stay to be honest. Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend, which is a shame.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff extremely helpful checking in and throughout the stay.
Cons: Pet friendly room
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast and evening meal we had there. Good service. Friendly staff
Cons: Lots of stairs to top floor. We travelled light but would have been an effort with a lot of luggage

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was realy nice, comfortable and spotless so its a shame the on suite let it down badly.
Cons: I would have rated this room higher if it wasnt for the fact that the on suite is in desperate need of repair, the shower door did not close and therefore the flooring was damaged and damp has turned small parts of the wall near the shower black. The heated towel rail is hanging off the wall, so realy was not safe to leave heavy towels on it.
6.8 Good
Pros: the breakfast was brilliant, all so the chief was great very helpful. The food was great. well worth the money.
Cons: They booked us in a room which was allocated for people with dogs. So the smell was very bad. If they had told us this when we were booking I would have found some where else. We paid for breakfast both mornings we were there, but the first morning I could not go down for breakfast as my stomach was upset, so my husband went down and I stayed in bed.
6.3 Good
Pros: The room was a nice size although a little dark, the pub had lovely views from the bar, enjoyed the atmosphere on quiz night bringing the guests and community together.
Cons: The shower door didn't shut properly resulting in the flooring being rather spongy where water has leaked on to it. Breakfast was only just warm when it came out and we wasnt offered any extra coffee or tea. Disappointed also that we had to pay another £15.98 on top of our room price to have breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Size of room exceeded our expectations and all the little extras made it homely and welcoming for our whole family, especially the toys and kids furniture and decor. Food delicious and reasonably priced. All in all excellent value for money!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is about 1 mile from Matlock town centre up a very steep hill so a car is essential. The pub food in the evening was excellent and very good value. It would seem that the management has perhaps changed recently as the bar had run out of all tonic waters and some other drinks, so had to forego a G&T with my meal. We do not eat breakfast so can't make comment on that.
Cons: Although our room was very pleasant it did not have any chair so you had to sit on the bed to watch tv - not a big issue but just a niggle
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was very quite. As were our room. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was very good. All in all a great place to stay. Would definitely come again.
Cons: We couldn’t fault it.
8.3 Excellent

5.8 Okay
Pros: Bed comfy
Cons: Bedroom very warm at night no air conditioning Breakfast poor only continental, I like a full English in the morning when on holiday
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast although only a buffet was very good, the rooms were comfortable. We were moved to a larger room overlooking the garden (thanks). Staff were all friendly and helpful. The restaurant and the bar drinks were quite reasonably priced.
Cons: The first room we were in was supposed to be "superior", it was a bit small and overlooked a courtyard and the spa, wasn't impressed., subsequently moved to a much bigger and better room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean hotel. Comfortable room. We had a problem which was quickly resolved on our arrival.
Cons: The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel had a very nice restaurant. The pool was a bonus, but we didn’t use it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff throughout. Very good sized room for the price with sofa, modern TV and drink making facility. Mini bottles of water provided, Large bathroom with tub and powerful shower . Amazing outdoor pool but didn't have time to use it. Excellent value for price paid
Cons: All parts of the hotel are very outdated and were built up in amazingly higgledy piggledy way. After being closed for some time courageous new owners have taken it on and have already invested substantial sums and energy into renovations with contemporary decor and furniture in central areas, a spa and in-room improvements. Unfortunately there is a long way to go before it can really be given the highest ratings. We wish everybody the best in the challenges ahead. Breakfast was a little disappointing with OJ from concentrate ( I think) and various bits not quite tasting as nice as they looked. Didn't appear to be a cooked option
7.5 Good
Pros: Great pool, friendly staff. Good wedding location.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room in general, location, peaceful and quiet. The bar/lounge was warm and friendly. Staff were excellent. I will return
Cons: A little dusty round the headboard and no chairs for the balcony. The rubber matt in bathroom was dirty, wet and smelt damp so I didn't use it. Needs replacing!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The main hotel and staff were great and the room was comfortable with an outdoor balcony looking over the pool. Beautiful grounds and facilities.
Cons: The breakfasts were simple but no cooked food other than porridge. Tea in a flask stewed, no milk jug or tea pot. Wide range of fruit and cereals but No bran flakes! A bit disappointing. Shame because the room was great with a balcony looking over the outdoor pool
7.5 Good
Pros: Swimming Pool and room.
Cons: Breakfast should have included hot food. Internet was slow or stop most of the time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We found it by accident, and it was wonderful, we were very lucky as the following day the treatments were half price and amazing.! Next time we will bring our swimming cossies.
Cons: Only one thing I noticed, cobwebs on the ceilings.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Most of the staff were excellent. Especially Sarah and Fred . Very clean, food superb, pool superb
Cons: Elderly parents were in a room that was uncomfortable for them to get to reception. A buggy would help. I felt misled over breakfast price and I don’t feel it was value for money at all
