Nothing exluding the garden room is very old and need repair, very expensive, room ii very small
Overall appearance; location; staff; facilities Could do ith international tv Channels
Perfect peace and quiet. No music in the ceiling!! Lack of tissues in bedroom, smallness of bathroom
Family of four. Room pleasant and clean but in need of redecoration. Gardens in front of the hotel beautiful. Staff pleasant. Not much English spoken, but we didn't ask for them too. Very hard to find even with SatNav. My son happened to spot the name as we drove past the unsignposted lane the 3rd or 4th time round. Also the hotel bar closed even though my husband and I were still in there.
Elective activities offered; good atmosphere in the foyers and at breakfast on the terrace; good standard of breakfast; charming local French customs displayed in the hotel and park Not really; the bar served wine in cognqac glasses. Overall we thought it was an authentic, unique and wonderful experience. Our names should have been accurately recorded. My husband is Mr. Jeffrey Hallebone and I am Professor Erica Hallebone. Never mind!
Location excellent, staff friendly.Approach to hotel and exterior promising but inside it was shabby. Our room was awful, paper peeling off ceiling, badly scuffed walls. TV cable running around door frame to socket. Found it was a hotel for groups of elderly French people not really for independant travellers. Very disappointed. See above , very shabby and an unwelcoming bedroom.
It had a car park that was only €7 for the night. Not bad so close to Monte Carlo Bar. Bedroom. Wifi. Breakfast. Not good!
Rooms were clean, staff were friendly, but not all spoke much English. Hotel staffs understanding of their internet offering was confused. They started by subscribing us to the local service, which never worked, but the hotel has its own wireless net (reception/lounge area only) and that was okay. Many of the staff did not speak much English, but luckily on the day we arrived the girly working reception spoke excellent English.. an okay hotel for a weeken break.
I enjoyed the location with the beautiful garden. The room was a good size and it was quiet. Most of the other guests seemed to belong to a holiday club for pensioners. Some noise from activities with the holiday club.Felt a bit like being in an old peoples' home.
View from the balcony and a nice garden. Possibility for a garage. Not a three star hotel. Rooms and furniture from a one star hotel. Allmost all of the staff did not speak any English.
Owner is a very welcoming person Breakfast not included
Visiting areas along the coast and going up into the hills It would have been nice to have a small lounge to sit in. Also lift was extremely small!
Very good position. Not so easy to find a place where to park, but it's ok.
cleanliness rather noisy street
Very good place to stay although a little worn at the edges. No air con and car park was a public car park, not the hotel's.
Centrally located. Affordable. Noise. Meager breakfast. Reception often closed.
Parking was only 7.50 and only 2 blocks away. What was updated, the calender????
Close to center Reception working hours, but that's general in France
the bed and the pillow Some small shower issues but not to bothers me so much
Kind hotel stuff (they waited for almost 2h for our late check-in), good location, good wifi. Lack of air conditioning was slightly annoying.
Stop over while travelling to italy. Car parking not secure and located a little way from the hotel on a derelict land.
the staff were pleasant and the location convenient for the autoroute the difficulty of getting into the shower and the very small room
We liked the location in particular, the spirit from the hotel and staff,my wife really enjoyed the breakfast. the parking spot, since there is to little space for all the guests and sombody dented my car on the last night
hotel staff - very poor english language knowledge
the comfort of the hotel, clean and nice staff. However,a bit noisy from the traffic in front of the hotel
convenience and excellent service we could not make the air conditioning work in our room
We were staying in this hotel for one night. All was excellent. The grand room with very comfortable bain, terasse with view on the beach, comfortable bed and a lot of Televesion channels from all over the world. The restaraunt in the hotel is really nice with good kitchen and cosy atmosphere. You really should go there and taste the different dishes. At reception you can get free map of the Menton city. The road to the hotel is nicely indicated in the city, easy to find. All was nice.
We were impressed by the location, condition of the property, and the fact that the staff was friendly and capable of speaking language. The hair dryer in the bathroom was ancient and did not work very well.
Excellent breakfast on the hotel terrase next to sea.
Warm welcome and the fact that the reception team took the trouble to give us the same room that we had on our last stay.
Very friendly and helpful staff at all times. Nice to have a garden to sit in. Absolutely excellent restaurant is attached - Le Petit Prince. - outstanding. Had we known how good it was, we would have taken demi-pension. Noisy traffic on road along the beachfront promenade. Buses into town and back very unreliable. Fine for someone fit enough to walk everywhere, but my husband is lame.
The people at the front desk. Exterior of property is good. The breakfast staff; the room and the hotel interior
Minibar was ampty. It was very very noisy.
The location was perfect for my needs - near the center of town and also near to my friends' home. The staff were very kind and helpful. The bed was not too comfortable and the breakfast rather plain. It was often difficult to locate anyone for service. There was apparently a bell to ring someone but I never saw it.
Room was minimal, breakfast was extra and rationed (you get what they give you on a plate -a pastry and a roll and that's it), car park could not accept our VW Golf Estate car as it would not fit in lift so had to park outside on the road. Meant paying the meter every 4 hours, inconvenient.
Well located excellent 2 star hotel
Very helpful staff Late arrival - we were unable to get access until other guests already staying helped us - unable to find the key to the room - another guest found it under the desk instead of in the tray on top.The breakfast was quite poor for the money.
Very flexible, check-in even when we arrived 2 hours after official check-in. Check-in was confusing because we booked two rooms, but they only prepared one. After showing them the printed booking documents, they prepared two rooms.
Arrived late in the evening and no one there to book me in and had to sleep on a colleague's floor. The beds were camp beds and not proper beds.
value for money given local prices. reasonable basic facilities. Very central for restaurants etc. Nice reception area Breakfast - coffee and croissants not good. Would not recommend breakfast. Not hygenic with member of staff coughing over the food.
Proximity to the centre of town, the sea and restaurants, plus Museum. Friendly staff, and reasonable price. The bed was not particularly comfortable.
Its location in Nice and the fact that it has a garage. Very minimal breakfast. Completely dark when one comes out of the lift.
Location Did not have hot water for one night and one day.
Good entry very little english spoken which was a problem --great location --room sparcely furnished but new and spotless Experience OK
Poor facilities - rude ownner's husband and, while reserving, booking staff
One room didn't have a shower but only a sink. This is sub-standard.
location perfect, next to the beach staff doesn't speak a single engl word, need to pay for Orange wifi - on site said it's included...
The owners and staff are friendly and accommodating, the rooms are clean and well-maintained, and the beds are comfortable (and I'm tall). I stayed in two rooms. The first faced the street, and was so noisy I could not sleep. After I complained, the owners immediately transferred me to a nicer room in the back of the building, which was quiet and had a little balcony. I'd happily return to the second room, but I cannot recommend the first.
The hotel room and corridors were clean, the room was adequate but not luxurious, as a b&b fine, recently refurbished to a very good standard, in easy reach of the beach, shops and restaurants, the air con was a godsend! towels changed every day the cleaner was very helpful, would stay there again. There was a balcony but the view was very resticted, we did not use the breakfast facility as we were aware of the smell of dog (the owners pet)
Renovated, clean rooms. Only manager/owner speaks English. But he is not available all the time.Very poor breakfast.
Nice small, but funtional rooms for short term stay. Very good air conditioning and nice loacation.
The staff was friendly! It is close to bott the bus station and beach! Make sure that you get off at the Menton train stop , the other is Menton Garavan! When you get off the train , turn left right potside the front of The station, there are steps leading to the street below. When you reach The bottom go right at bog intersection turn left the hotel is about a block Down on the right. It was more a hostel than a hotel! The communal toilet at the end Of the hallway was literally a closet! There was no shower at all and Your room could have air conditioning for 10€ a night extra! Lots More to see& do but without being able to take a proper shower could Not stay more than 2 nights! You can get a shower in a couple rooms but Obviously more money and they were occupied!
the rooms are very clean, the staff is nice and even if you book an economy room, which doesn't have a shower and the toilet in the room, it can be quite comfortable for one or two nights since there's a sink and a bidet in the room. It is definitely near the beach.
staff spoke good english and were very friendly
English talking kind receptionists. Few meters from the see. Easy to find. Has wifi connection in the rooms also. Quite loud especially at the hill side because of the road next to it with huge traffic. Earplugs recommended. The furniture was old and used.
leaving the Hotel, my wife neally devorced me when we turned up here. I had to promise her that i would never choose a hotel again so it has cost me a fortune since ! everything is wrong ! the Hotel is very tired with things falling apart everywhere. the electrical sockets were hanging loose in the hallways, sharpe brass protective strips on the floor were loose and dangerous, nearly cut my toe off , the bath had rust stains, the beds are hard, small and uncomfortable, the capet had a burn from a clothes iron, no internet in the room, the breakfast was terrible and the breakfast staff were just about rude, to busy looking out the window. and to top it off its not that cheap, its only a little more next door.
A very friendly, well-run hotel with excellent staff and clean, spacious rooms. Breakfast was good value, and served on the room balcony at no extra cost. Sadly this hotel is just too far from any of the popular dining areas for comfort. Also, the road in front of the hotel is very noisy, particularly at commuter times, spoiling the advantages of the balcony overlooking the sea.
the staff was extremely accommodating, the hotel was clean and on the beach and the breakfast was abundant and fresh the street noise on both sides of the hotel is very loud and disturbing throughout the whole night and day and it is a half mile hike to Menton to shop or dine in the old city. location for beach great, location for peace of mind, quiet and ease of city access terrible
The location. The noice from the trattic.
The welcome was very friendly. Excellent location We arrived about 1.30pm and the carpet in the room was still damp from cleaning The hotel is a little old and tired. 1 Bedroom as second choice had a poor bed.
close to beach and restaurants - staff were pleasant and helpful - room cleaned every day.
I enjoyed the balcony, proximity to the waterfront, and helpful staff.
Great stay, lovely large room, very clean and fantastic staff. Raymond on the front desk was very helpful, would stay again Not a thing
Excellent location: easy, short walk to seafront, shops etc. Compact room size ok, nice bathroom with proper windows and good shower. Excellent breakfast buffet included in the price, including freshly squeezed juice.Parking available for a fee, but great to be able to lock car off the street.Lovely team at reception, charming and friendly: they spoke to us in French, which was great as I speak French...so often one is almost ignored and has to accept their version of English as they think it is better than my French!Notice that facilities in foyer for families, including games, toys and modern gadgets. Also at b'fast ther was child-sized crockery etc. A shelf positioned very close to the bedroom door, with a sharp corner at head height was a potential head-slicer...really dangerous and very poor design idea. This could hurt anyone, young or old and would result in blood !
the hotel was new and clean. we got a spacious suite at the 7th floor. only week point tiles on the floor. this is too cold to walk bare feet. I suppose the other rooms have moquette.
The yellow and white contemporary design bedroom! Loved the self service breakfast and out of hours tea and coffee machine. Road traffic was a bit noisy.
We liked the contemporary design, very clean and modern.
the shower was broken before our arrival and we should keep with the hand it to clean us... quite incredible. Half of lights were broken and no one changed them during our stay
It was near the sea. The smell of the restaurant, the hotel staff didn't want to help us when we couldn't make a connection with the Internet, the bathroom wasn't clean: there were soms hairs of the guests before us,...
The hotel location was brilliant, just a couple of minutes walk to the promenade and so close to all bars, restaurants and shops. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was delicious and excellent value. The room was just a little too small although the bed was very comfortable. The shower needed attention.
50 metres from beach and from city parking. Bar and restaurant. Cold water always available No electricity when I arrived. 36 C day, tiny window, overheated room, finally got tiny fan working. Room did not cool down in the 2 days I was there.
Fantastic location extremely close to the beach and very centrally located. Parking lot just around the corner. Perfect backpacker or low demand traveller hotel. Small basic room had a shower and was worth it for the price - 45 euro. Wouldn't want to pay too much more than that for the room, however. Our little daughter was only 3 months old when we stayed there, so it was no problem having her sleep in her little basket. Having kids who needed their own bed would have been quite a problem in the tiny room. Reception closes from 13-17.30 which is not exactly convenient - fortunately we arrive just before 17, so we had a drink at the cafe 3 steps away, so it wasn't too bad. Very low tech place, though they did claim to have free Internet access...consider the bakery just around the corner which is as good for breakfast as the hotel.
There should be quite a discussion to convince me that this hotel should stay open; namely, for considerable price you get an old room where you barely fit in. The TV (size of a modern day children's toys) worked, but did not present any programme whatsoever. When we tried to contact the recepcionist about that, we've found the reception closed, although we had checked in only few minutes earlier. Far too pricey for a simple sleep over.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, gave a homely feel to the stay. Excellent value for a location just outside Monte Carlo. Free wifi.
location Inaccessabilty of management, damp replacement towels, ?lounge on streetlevel -- we didn't find it!
Value of Money, excellent location
do not stay here cleaninliness
Friendly staff, very clean and close to beach and shopping areas Lack of air conditioning - it was very hot at night
Excellent location, nice gardens and outdoor area. Food was fine and restaurant staff helpful. Lift inadequate for size of hotel. No English speaking channels on TV. The only important downside to our hotel stay was the indifferent attitude of the female reception staff, who in our opinion are poorly trained.
wonderful location on the sea front, stunning looking hotel, large room and bathroom, good dining room for breakfast
Staff changed the room without the veranda to with the veranda.
the location of the hotel.
Very good standard of room - extremely pleasant staff and wonderful location. Not really - it lived up to expectations
Very pleasant room with sea view. Friendly staff
Excellent rooms, great location
the location was superb
The location was great and the facade facing the sea was reminicent of past times and we liked that We thought that there was not enough service staff - we waited a long time to get a drink on the terrace in the garden - some of the seating was not clean. The next day we sat on the terrace but left as we had waited a long time for service. The breakfast was not displayed nicely - and the bread etc. basket was not filled up once while we took breakfast.
location and the room were very nice.
It was only to sleep in as went to monico every day.BUT Clean and friendley. No
convenience no shower in room, only tub
The room and the balcony was very good. The breaskfast could be included in the diary price.
It may be called Hotel Moderne, but modern it's not. It is a bit retro, but clean and comfortable. Room is airconditioned. There are double sliding doors and shutters to block out the noise, heat and light. Don't know why others complain it is noisy. Location is also good. It would be nice if breakfast is included for the same price. But this hotel is still better than other hotels we looked at. Our room had a toilet cistern which was a little noisy.
Room was well cleaned and fresh linen provided each day. Unable to get a hot drink during the day or evening. Beds too close together. Hotel needs 'updating'.
very nice hotel staff excellent. nice balcony which was a plus.
Close to beach, train station. Not too away from city centre. Breakfast was really poor, not according to it's price (8eur for jam, small baguette, croisant and butter)
location, friendly staff too much traffic noise - not the hotel's fault. However, I would choose a quieter hotel next time.
convenience of location lack of signs to find it, hard to park in basement
We were able to make adjoining rooms into one suite that was very good for a family. Very central location - close to beach and in the middle of town. Underground garage parking is very tight and requires a great deal of manoeuvring. Showers are a bit basic and in need of updating.
Location excellent wifi cost @ 10 euros/per hour too high
Friendly helpful staff, good location. Wi-fi internet not accessible when in room, accessible only around lobby area.
The young receptionst on duty during one of the days, she was helpful. Its location is not particularly good, sraff not really helpful, it has no facility whatsoever - no pool, no breakfast room, poor breakfast... We booked two rooms, we were given two small rooms on the lowest floor, although we were charged for the largest rooms. Both had horrible windows. After repeat requests, we were given two the next day with broken aircon when it was mid August in a heat wave; another request led to a slightly better room with no balcony, the other room had no blind so the morning burning sun would be in your face early on; hot water only during 7-9 am! All the roomsand came with ugly old faded frayed brown smelly blankets and covers. This is more a 2-star standard, so I don't understand how they got 3-star?!
Extremely friendly, relaxed and helpful staff, good location, nice silent rooms. Plus a cool retro decoration in bathroom :-) Nothing to criticize, everything was perfect. I don't understand why some people on this website complain about irrelevant things.
The breakfast was served in the room on time The decor was bizarre - plain concrete, unpainted walls in the bathroom and toilet. The bathroom and shower were filthy. Towels old and not at all soft. Bedding clean but old and not very comfortable. Low budget hotel. Carpets also not clean and looked like they had not been hovered. Glad I was only there for one night.
Hotel and Reception staff was very helpful and friendly. Shower curtain was not functional, unfortunately I set the bathroom under water.
Although on busy street, rooms are quiet We booked a non smoking room, were placed in one so full of soke that was foggy. Could move to another one which was without balcony (had paid for it) and had to move baby's bed ourselves!
quiet, nice helpfull staff, close to the beach, good price Wifi not working
Very clean and comfortable, bus stop close by and the beach is opposite the hotel, excellent location
Rooms were very well decorated and clean. Some (2) members of staff were not very friendly/helpful.
it was such a relaxing hotel, everything at hand ie the pool drinks food, the beach front resturant was fantstic it made our 10th wedding anniversary everything we hoped for, much inproved on our stay 12yrs ago. one complaint about the room, the towel rail on the wall of the bath meet myn and my husbands head a few time
friendly and helpful staff- breakfast very good and good standard of room -everything worked The location is superb for views across the bay but the dual carriage way outside is very noisey -not helped by traffic lights just outsidmeaning traffic is constantly braking and accelerating. The swimming pool was so cold as to be unusable.
Absolutely everything - beautiful, clean room, super breakfast in the garden, excellent, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location in Menton.
Quiet location. Modern clean hotel with friendly staff
Location, easy parking, room views not at all !
A very bright, welcoming and attractive hotel
Nice, clean room overlooking the sea, good buffet breakfast, nice environment. Very small parking facilities.
staffs are so friendly.but except summer so quiet.
Traditional French style
nice personal small rooms
Great accomodation for quite low price,
Friendly staff and location of hotel
Excellent location, friendly staff WIFI router was in closed cabinet and overheated occassionally
None of the air conditioning units in any of the three rooms that we booked worked. Only the fans. It was hot and noisy as it was on the main road and we had to have the windows open otherwise we would have suffocated. Very small rooms with no space for suitcases.
Close to the station The family room is too small for a family. There is literally not enough floor space for 4 bags, and we ended up putting the furnature out in the corridor to make space. The room was clean, but the rest of the hotel smells.
it was easy to get to monaco, nice and i stayed so i could watch the tour de france. no parking [6 euros a day extra] fridge was locked.
Location of the hotel is good - very close to the central station and not far from the seaside. Bathroom is ok compairing to the whole room. WiFi is free and fast. Room's interior is poor.
Hotel Claridge's is very clean and good for a night rest. Hotel staff are very friendly, though can't speak very good english. Value for money, easy to find if you are driving. Parking at site was full, but we manage to find a lot on the opposite street of the hotel. Complimentary use of WIFI. Jus to take note that you need to pay extra euro 5.90 for the breakfast.
good value for budget traveler and good breakfast
Reasonable price and good enough quality of rooms and service. If ever in Menton I shall stay here Bathrooms are a little bit shabby
Breakfast included in the price was good; A conveniently placed hotel for those without own transport.
The hotel is very close to the train station. Even id stated, this hotel has no parking at all, and is very difficult to park the car on the street. The rooms are extremelly small and noisy: you can ear people walking, talking and everything else from inside and outside the hotel.
The location is very convenient, walking to beach, train station, Casino
Location. You are next to train station and bus station to everywhere including Nice airport. 10 minutes to Old town, 4 minutes to Casino and beaches. My room was looking to beautiful mountains... The room ceilins is over 10 feet and my room was cool enough for me. But I do not know what happens hot season bec lack of aircondition
Relaxing! This is an old-world French place with Bodhi Tree values, for travelers who know what that means. Strong Internet signal, at no charge.
The hotel as located quite central in Menton, but not much noise from the traffic was heard. Some weak rumbling from the trains. Close to the railway station and to the bus station (la gare, la gare routière). Close to a small market place. Friendly hotel staff, and the room service (cleaning) was well done. A hotel with familiar atmosphere! We enjoyed our stay at the hotel ! The only thing I would like to put some light on, is the room door locks and keys. Could they a bit more "modern" (and secure) ?
Extremely basic room, like being a student but paying the same as the 'logis' down the street.
Breakfast included and elegantly served
The location, the breakfast and the appearance of the hotel. It feels lilke the French Reviera, right there on the water and nice beach. The breakfast is worth whatever they charged, I don't recall, but really excellent. Overall, great ambiance. Nice, big tv, english- language channels, also German, Italian, and of course French. Good internet access. We booked the standard double room, and recommend the upgraded rooms. We stayed in the upgraded room last year and it was way nicer; but the standard room is adequate with still ok furnishings. REally crummy tv remote, the plus-minus kind that forces you ro scroll channels; clumsy when there are many channels.
The view from our balcony over the sea was lovely and the lounge/bar area that had been upgraded was lovely to sit and have your breakfast in. Only part of the hotel has been upgraded the other part is shabby, carpets very stained, we found an adult toy under our bed! Make sure you book a room that is overlooking the sea and that it is in the upgraded part.
Beach access directly across from the hotel. Rooms were old and tired as compared to the new lobby/bar area and on-line photos. This hotel needs an exterminator!
Excellent stay and not overpriced, unlike many of the hotels we stayed at on this trip to France. I paid more for rooms in moderate 3 star motels than I have paid in a good hotel in central London. Even accounting for the weak pound, prices are silly, except for the Vicoria which was the lowest price we paid on the whole 2 week trip.
Free WiFi, beautiful view to sea
Near sea. Not far from Monaco (5 minutes by car)
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The reception/dining area and terrace is beautifully redecorated. The breakfast was first class, although a bit expensive if they want to attract more clients. The noise from the traffic on the sea-facing side of the hotel is something they need to address. Apparently they will be fitting double-paned glass in November '09.
The view and position were wonderful
- location, excellent breakfast, beach just across the street - car parking is a misunderstanding. The hotel should note, that they have 2 places, in spite of this they are trying to pack 4 cars. You should rather treat it as " no parcing" hotel. The rest was really good.
It was close to the beach / promenade, clean and stuff was helpful. The bathroom needed renovation but at least it was clean.
room with a balcony and a sink. The moment we started speaking English, lady at the reception changed her attitude and became impolite. There was no possibility of charging a credit card, so we had to pay in cash... at least according to her. Breakfast consisted of one croissant, cup of coffee and... well, that's it (6E per person added to the price of the hotel). We reserved a parking place in front of the hotel, but when we arrived it was taken by some other car. There was no iron and the personnel was not helpful at all. Bathroom was on a different floor than our room, so we had to walk the stairs and pass other guests when going back to the room.
Nothing I didn`t like anything
staff very friendly and helpfull , room whilst in general poor state of repair was clean and functional Appartment whilst would have been good value for 6 people or family on budget is just an old shop with 3 double beds, no door to bathroom and large shop window onto street quite sureal...
Difficult to think about what to write here.......they let me park my motorbike on the pavement outside the hotel. This hotel room consisted of a bed, a sink and an open wooden "wardrobe". Very cheap and nasty to be frank. There was no soap or towel, and no window to the outside, making it very dark during the day. very poor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst hotel on my trip.
The 'Budget Price' of the accommodation, the welcome, the cleanliness and the really good, for me, dinner. To be able to park outside the front door, in a reserved space, but ... It's street address raised an early question re noise. Both road traffic and the even louder and more invasive noise of trains, proved disturbing from before 0525hrs. to after midnight! The price of the very basic continental breakfast was too high.
