Top tips for hiring a car at Roanoke airport

  • Roanoke Airport (ROA), also referred to as the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, is a safe and convenient location to secure a rental car. With a Roanoke Airport car rental, you can not only explore historic Roanoke Virginia, but also the surrounding natural wonders of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, as well. Driving to locations within the city in a rental car can be as much as over an hour faster than taking public transportation. In a Roanoke Airport car rental, you can visit and see what you want on your own schedule.
  • Choosing a car rental at Roanoke Airport is ideal because the airport itself is such a convenient place to be situated once you have arrived on your plane and you need to secure ground transportation. The airport has an ATM so you can get cash, Airport Ambassadors to help you with any questions you might have, and a restaurant with a full bar so that you can refresh and reboot if you need to. The airport also features a pet relief area that you can take advantage of if you are traveling with a service animal or a four-legged friend. Vending machines are also available near the car rental counters.
  • One distinct advantage of securing a car rental at Roanoke Airport as opposed to renting a car from elsewhere in Roanoke is that the car rental agencies at ROA tend to have longer hours than agencies in town. For instance, Avis at ROA is open from 7 am until 11:30 pm, compared to Avis car rentals in town in Roanoke which are open from 9 am until 5:30 pm.
  • When you secure a Roanoke Airport car rental, you can take advantage of services from the agencies that will help expedite the rental process. With Avis, you can take advantage of Preferred Service and After-Hour Returns. With Budget, you can take advantage of Fastbreak Service and After-Hour Returns. With Alamo, you can take advantage of Accelerated Check-In and After-Hour Returns. Signing up for these services is usually free.
  • Book your car hire at Roanoke airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

There was only one clerk at the desk, and she was very surly. The line of people waiting after a flight arrived should have been handled with two clerks.

It was ok at best. They did not have the vehicle that I reserved. No upgrades available. Nothing until 3-4 hours until after my scheduled pickup time. Due to time constraints I settled for a smaller crossover SUV. It was decent however it Did have a dent on tail gate. The interior was clean enough but stains on driver seat and had an odor that did not dissipate throughout the trip. The compensation that I received was a simple I did not have to fuel the vehicle up for my return. The price was only marginally cheaper since I unfortunately went with a smaller vehicle. Overall, not my best rental experience.

I did not make this reservation; this was made without my knowledge or consent by someone in another state. Kayak and Budget did nothing to help me handle the identity theft.

Didn't know that Alamo is owned by Enterprise and they've both lost my business forever. That partnership doesn't benefit consumers at all.

Weeks after my reservation, after flying across the country, when I went to pick up my rental, I was then told “you can’t rent without a credit card”. I’ve rented quite a few cars over the past several years and have never owned a credit card of any kind. They offered zero help in trying to come up with a solution, just a hard and fast “you’re screwed have fun being stranded (with a family of 6)” thankfully we had family in the area that were willing and able to let us borrow a vehicle until we could get a rental from a legitimate rental company.
