A wonderful old hotel within a walk of the Taubman Art Museum and the downtown market. The old Norfolk and Western station across the street which houses a small museum of railroad photos from the end of the steam era was also nice. The hotel grounds were well-kept and when we visited cherries were in bloom. Valet and bell service was very attentive. We had an excellent breakfast on Saturday with first-rate croissants, fresh fruit, and salmon.
Location and aesthetics. Parking situation is very inconvenient. Had too far to walk and leaving during a rush (our whole group left at once) with only one attendant took nearly 15 minutes to get out.
Historical nature The executive level was not worth the additional money
The staff at Hotel Roanoke were the definition of customer service, from the housekeeping staff to the management and everyone in between
24 hrs before checking in I received an email offering 3 alternative upgrades if available at 3 different price premiums above my booked room. I was not able to choose which upgrade I might be interested in.
The room was clean and quiet. Good value for the money. Shula's restaurant was very good.
I liked the start and the hotel. We had a great time in Roanoke and loved out stay. We will come back!
Service was great room was nice. Hot tub was broken and pool was freezing. Would have liked a few dollars credited
The comfiest bed and pillows and sheets ever, as soon as you lay down you're out! Thin walls, heard people next door having sexual relations.
The hotel atmosphere when you walk in is great. We booked our hotel room (king sized bed) through a third party (Kayak) and our reservation was cancelled once we arrived at the hotel. It was a late evening and it had just started to snow outside. Instead of the front desk being accommodating he gave us a more expensive room and didn't want to give us a king sized bed.
Hotel was dirty, you could hear everything in halls and other rooms. Staff took awhile to respond to requests needed.
Great service Super friendly, especially the bellmen Clean and comfortable In-room service needed a tweak: I had 3 decafs and no regular coffee Power outlets not available for one of the beds
The staff was terrific. The room was perfect and nicely decorated. We used the shuttlebus. It's a pet friendly hotel and we were across the hall from a yapping terrier.
Pet friendly with a nice green space to walk the dog. The staff was very friendly. It looked like the bathroom had not been swept (one dead bug--it is Virginia though, lots of bugs in this state) and a couple of hairs. That is pretty minor though. Starbucks coffee in the room was nice. The bed was comfortable and clean. They started cleaning my floor (3rd floor) around 8:00 am, so make sure to hang the "do not disturb" sign on the door if you want to sleep in at all.
Good bed. Swimming pool didn't look clean
Bed was clean and VERY comfortable! Room was large with upgrades. Fitness room was spectacular! Normally an advertised fitness room only has two cardio machines and a yoga mat...not the case here! Full set of fumbled free weights, more than 6 cardio machines, and plenty of universal gym machines. This was worthy of a gym membership...but of course included in room. Competing hotels in Toanoke don't offer this. Great value for what was paid $79/night. I'll stay again at that rate! If it were $100+ I likely wouldn't. The ONLY downfall I keep coming back to was the chair in my room. It was worn and ripped, giving it the appearance of a trashier hotel. I cringe writing this bc it doesn't do the hotel service, but needs to be addressed. The entire room was fantastic with exception to that crappy chair. Replace the chair :)
It was a great hotel. I will be returning!
Best service I have received in 10 years. Clean, comfortable bed and great location near many downtown amenities.
Very nice, modern facilities.
The staff I encountered were all friendly and helpful. The room was plenty big enough, with sitting area as well as sleeping area. The location is convenient to major hospital and other businesses in the downtown area of Roanoke The parking garage had spacious spots but limited number.
Very comfortable and clean.
Everyone was nice and helpful. Room was very clean. Breakfast was good That there was not mirror in bedroom
Close to where I needed to be The facility was old and worn out, breakfast was not very good. I wouldn't stay here again
Very nice hotel. Comfortable bed and room. Cleanliness was very good. Breakfast area was cramped but quality and selection was better than the competition. Room soundproofing could be better. Traffic on street noticeable. Could hear footsteps in room upstairs.
Front desk staff were wonderful. Room was lovely. The location atop the hill is beautiful and unique. The hotel itself is pretty and clean, food was decent. We loved visiting Roanoke, it was a great town and easy to get around. We would stay again. We were not fans of the bartender. There was no warmth about her, and no attempt to engage us in conversation. Also, the hotel's pillows are way too soft and deflated. Dirty washcloth left in same place all 3 days of our stay.
the staff where very helpfull
loved the breakfast, especially the "egg mcmuffins" which were far superior to those at McDonalds.
Great service and breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful. Proximity to mall a plus.
The beds were comfortable We had a leak under the sink the carpet was wet. We called about it and they said someone would come check on it but nobody showed up. Another thing was they put us in a room next to the elevator so we heard the elevator go up and down all night was kinda noisey in the middle of the night. The drains did not drain like they should. And nothing was done about that.
The staff was friendly and efficient. A good welcoming upon check in. The room at first glance was very modern decor and tasteful. Plenty of space. Convenient location with lots of restaurants and shopping. The fridge was not working. We didn't find this out till we came back that evening with drinks and by morning, still nothing. The mattress was very uncomfortable. Very noisy with springs, "popping" when someone moved. Made for a very restless night.
The pillows were perfect. Trust me. Also, a number of nice restaurant's were very close by.
We were literally there for only 9 hours, but it provided the exact level of comfort we wanted and would want if we stayed longer. The king was very comfortable, there was plenty of room with a huge sofa and there was a large wet bar with mini fridge. It seemed that the hotel was very new. And the woman at the front desk was exceptionally pleasant. Nada!
Location to highway and restaurants was perfect. Our room was next to elevator and that took space away from the room. The bathroom was incredibly tight. Be warned if you have a do not disturb sign on your door when the cleaning staff to by- they will not come by later and clean your room at all. Wish we had known that.
The staff was very courteous and attentive It was a busy holiday weekend but there should have been more staff in the evenings and breakfast to help with cleaning and there was a fallen tree blocking the entrance/exit to the hotel
Room was spacious. Cost was reasonable. Breakfast was great!
nothing decoration noisy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can't sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comfortable bed. Microwave and Kreuger coffee pot in room. Refrigerator. Staff very friendly and helpful. Did not purchase the breakfast as the hotel was far to busy....can't image the breakfast chaos. Noisy hallways, hearing neighbors through the walls. Not sure why other guests think it's ok to yell from one end of a very long corridor to the other end?! The particular night I stayed it was sold out and very crowded and noisy. If you walk out the front door people were smoking so you couldn't even get to your car in the crowded parking lot without breathing their smoke. Ick.
Front desk employees were very nice and helpful. The $10/person breakfast buffet was awful. It was the same food that other hotels offer as part of the cost of the stay. Very expensive and disappointing. We did not eat it and chose to spend our money on better food.
Absolutely nothing I had a room that smelled of mold. They moved me to another room and it was just as bad. After an email to corporate they offered me a night free. That's not happening
First room they gave me had not been cleaned
I have asthma, and needed a non-smoking room, which I asked for when I made my reservation. They showed me three different rooms, all listed as non-smoking, but all smelled of cigarettes. I was exhausted after a long day, and finally decided to leave Motel 6 and look for a room somewhere else.
The room itself was very clean. There were only 2 towels in the room, our room had 2 beds, and we were traveling with one of our kids as well, 2 towels for three people want enough. Not too sure about the neighborhood... We were awake until 1am or so and there were LOTS of people in the parking lot and wandering around being very loud. Lots of noise from the rooms upstairs.
We made our reservation two months in advance and when we got to the motel we did not have a reservation. Our rooms probably were given away for the higher price. It was liberty university graduation and when we booked the rooms they were at regular price. All of the hotels and motels brought their prices up higher for the graduations.
The room smelled gross, wasn't clean, and I found a bug in my bed. After I found the bug, I decided to leave, and they thankfully refunded me. At least they had good customer service.
Staff was helpful. Non-smoking room reeked of smoke. Burns on sides of the sink was evidence of it. There was a slow drip coming from the ceiling in the bathroom. Very slow, but when we arrived there was a puddle on the bathroom floor and when we got up in the am it was back and bigger.
My husband had made the arrangements for my stay..he mistakenly booked a smoking room...he called to change it but it was the last available room..he was told that if one became available they would give us the room..when my friend and I arrived the person behind the desk did indeed change our room to a non-smoking room..we were quite pleased! Thank you!!!!!
We loved the pool, warm breakfast, the breakfast to go option, comfortable bed, cleanliness, and friendly staff That I couldn't stay longer
I appreaciate the breakfast and courtious service all the time. I think it would be complete for the bathrooms to have a pull up hand stand like the shower. I need help regarding my legs that are very weak..
The hotel was relatively new so the decor was very boutique-ish. Staff was very friendly. Room was nice and clean.

Neat, convenient to where we were going. Breakfast great - staff also helpful and polite.
Gorgeous Hotel with an awesome staff who were very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and well taken care of.
The room was clean and comfortable. We did not want to get up out of the beds there were so cushy. The staff did a great job of meeting our needs. Nothing

It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was very quiet. I have stayed at Hampton Inn before in another location and this one isn't even close even though it just opened in March 2014. It was a great disappointment.
Recently stayed at this hotel while on a short vacation in the Virginia and North Carolina mountains. This hotel struck the perfect balance between comfort, value, luxury and convenience. Well appointed, exceptionally clean and close to many shops and restaurants our stay here was fantastic and highly recommendable to anyone looking for a quality hotel in close proximity to both downtown Roanoke and the Roanoke airport.
The staff was friendly and the room was clean with contemporary decor and furnishings. I was feeling a little under the weather while I was there and was disappointed when I found out there was only 1 tissue left in the bathroom.
Pleasant stay. Best hotel we had on our journey. Very good breakfast. A place to stay for more than just 1 night.
A lovely facility, very nice 'open' lobby layout. Very nice restaurant, with bar, offering all 3 meals. Pool is indoor and outdoor - novel approach, but great ammenity. Outside pool area is a picnic area, and volleyball court! If needed, near airport. Met and exceded expectations.
Friendly staff, Very nice location. Rooms were very clean!
I actually prefer the Holiday Inn Express over a regular Holiday Inn like this. You get so much more for your money, such as free internet and free breakfast. But for a Holiday Inn this was nice.
The water did not properly drain in the shower. Both nights there was party and with my room location, I got no rest until after 1 am!
Very quiet and a good value. Nice amenities and a good location.
Only stayed 1 night and a good experience. I feel I got a great deal and really loved the pillows labeled hard and soft. Made a great night of sleep. The pool indoors next to the resturant was kinda wierd.
The staff were nice and polite. The outlet by the sink ( for the hair dryer ) was very loose and the plug didn't want to stay connected. The mattress was worn out.
location, breakfast, conference rooms, updated rooms, great staff next to a noisy industrial business, dingy exteriors, far from ice
WE ONLY PAID 60.00/NIGHT/ROOM FOR TWO DOUBLE-BEDS IN EACH AND IT WAS WORTH THAT PRICE. I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPY PAYING MUCH MORE. THE APPEARANCE OF THE ROOMS WAS FANTASTIC BUT THE COMFORT OF THE BEDS AND THE CLEANLINESS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. IT WAS NOT THE WORST I'VE SEEN, EITHER. MEDIOCRE. THE STAFF WAS VERY NICE. MEDIOCRE PLACE - WORTH 60.00 THOUGH - WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPY PAYING MORE. CLEAN ENOUGH AND COMFY ENOUGH - COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. WOULDN'T HAVE WANTED TO STAY LONGER THAN ONE OR TWO NIGHTS. FUNCTIONAL NOT RELAXING - DON'T STAY HERE IF YOU'RE VACATIONING.
Newly updated room. New furniture. New LED TV. Lamanted floors. Overall a nice room for the money. Large comfy room. The walk from the parking lot to the front desk is a long one. Kinda confusing the way it's set up. Construction still underway.
Comfortable bed Although the property was recently renovated, it was done poorly. Paint is already peeling in the bathroom, there were dents in the wall, the caulking was not replaced, just a sloppy job. Housekeeping does a poor job cleaning. Windows are filthy. Management rented out the hotel lobby for a Birthday party on the last night of my stay and allowed for loud music to be played until midnight. The party was loud and kept me awake until they left. I called the front desk to complain ... The staff did not care. A hotels's first priority should always be the comfort of their guests and the cleanliness of the property. This hotel clearly does not care about either one.
Did not like the fact that we were charged double. Called the hotel they did not have an answer. Called the 3rd party we booked from and was told we would need to wait 5-10 business days. Still have not heard from the hotel on the double charge.
Recently renovated. Very nice room! I plan on staying there again! Small problem with the heater but no major isdues
Easy check in. The hardwood floors made he room seem clean and open. The hotel had recently renovated (I think) and our looked really nice in our room. The breakfast bar had a wide variety and it was clean and tasty. The outside walks and stairs could use some TLC. Not sure if there was an elevator or not. If there was there were no signs indicating where it was. Instead we had to lug our suitcases as well as a two year old up the stairs. Not too big of an issue.
Room was nice, clean, staff was helpful No real complaints
Very nice accommodations, quiet. Very nice suite. Would definitely stay here again
The staff. would have liked HD TV.
Interior design Questionable stains on the bedspreads
Good breakfast. Sliding door was hard to open and close.
Fairly close to the hospital. Easy access to street. It was a 'basement' room Over priced for what was offered in the room.
Convenience of location and ease getting back on the interstate. The cost is reasonable also. Bet, evg Breakfast could be a little better. Didn't like the eggs.
The location and that it was pet friendly. The hotel is very old & not nice at all. It was definitely lower quality than the best western example for the star level. The hotel is all non-smoking NOW, but it definitely didn't used to be. The room layout was very odd and it smelled awful.
suite with separate sitting room leak in ceiing onto bed
Updated and clean Cleaning lady changed the temperature in the room-- left it on the coldest setting. I was gone all day and came back that night to Antartica. The light above the doorway kept flickering when light switch was off. Debera hung up on me/rude when called.
The room was clean and the breakfast was good! We attended the NASCAR race and we will definitely go there again. No.
Nothing hotel was nasty and hot my son had nose bleed because of heat I had to walk upstairs after just having had knee surgery day before to check rooms we did not stay the manager was nice though Everything sinks were not clean had hair and dirt in two of the rooms one of the forms the toilet had feces left on it two of the rooms the bathtub was dirty all three rooms the beds were dirty had hair on one oil/ dirt on the other the pillows had yellow spots on it. The carpets in all rooms hadn't been vacuumed. The fridge was dirty. There was bugs in the third room we were showed. And one of the walls had something that looked like blood/feces. The manager came to view the first/second room but didn't say anything. He was semi-polite I had just had knee surgery the day before hotel had no elevator. All rooms were on second floor. The outside of hotel smelled like urine. The floors upstairs hallway hadn't been vacuumed. Also the floors were uneven dips inclines. The upstairs period was unbearably hot my son ended up having bad, nosebleed. We checked three rooms in 30mins and left. We stayed at another much nicer hotel down the street. Overall I wouldn't let me dog stay there!!!
Some rooms had excessive noise from the outside
Location and proximity of local attractions The room was supposed to be smoke free; however, there was a faint smoke odor in the room. Try to find another hotel if possible, especially if anyone in your party has allergies.
Value, location/easy access to the city, cleanliness, and breakfast. What was not to like?!
We appreciated the acceptance of pets and the middle-of-the-road price. The room was disgusting. I almost refused to use the shower. There were sketchy drug-dealer types hanging out in the parking lot until 2am. We didn't get a wink of sleep... including the dogs.
Location was very convenient for our travel plans. Relatively clean for a budget motel. Very close to busy road. Must be close to hospital as loud sirens all night.
Location Where do I start??? Got there at 11:45 and its 40 degrees outside. The wildabeast at the front desk won't let us in the lobby and has us go to the cubbie hole on the side of the office. She can't find our names in the system. It takes 30 minutes waiting outside to get our room keys. When she finally hands them over to us she has the nerve to yell at us that we need to be nice. Yelling this. I cursed that donkey out... Specifically telling her to f herself and to consider eating my a-hole. She then calls the police!! The officers come, here my story and have a laugh. Apparently she does this to everyone who doesn't bow down to her. Needless to say this is the worst establishment on the face of the planet. I would never recomend this place to anyone... Not even my in-laws!
The location was close to the civic center and market street. Not very clean, a used towel still hanging on a hook on the back of the bathroom door, a screw on the bathtub faucet came out when I turned it on. Shades were old and worn and tough to cover whole window.
