Despite providing both Kayak and Sixt my flight arrival time into EWR, the Sixt rental counter desk was closed and I was unable to retrieve the car I had reserved and pre-paid. Fortunately, the other major rental car brand desks were open and I rented elsewhere. Thus far Sixt has resisted refunding their $400+ charge. Wait time to check-in was 15-20 minutes while being the first one on queue. A lot of confusing offers for protection and other add-ons which resulted in additional charges. Car was not well cleaned. There were hideous stains on the interior roof of the car. The car itself, while being an upgrade, was not well maintained -- car shook uncontrollably between 60-70mph on the freeway. Drop-off was confusing and aggravating. No visible attendant on-site for the drop-off. The signage for where to return the car was also not visible. We ook the trouble to park into a Sixt parking spot and was walking toward rental office when approached by an attendant in one of the returned cars. She was combative and aggressive in asking why we did not find her to check back in the car. We would have had she been around and visible. Maybe it was not entirely her fault as perhaps the agency was short-staffed, however, the customer should not have been made to feel as if we did something wrong when we were just trying to be helpful.Reviewed 29 Aug 2022

The car smelled like cigarette smoke. They refused to give me a printed contract. They insisted that they take my photo before renting the car. When I refused, since I've never heard of such a thing, they made me wait at least 20 minutes to get a short form. Don’t use this company. You will never be able to get in contact with customer service. I made a reservation. Tried to cancel within a few hours. Could never speak with an agent.
