Pros: Amazing breakfast which deserves 11 out of 10. The room was confortable and the district atmosphere very quiet. Situated at 300m from the station very usefull to visit the city of Newcastle or some famous heritage site like Tynemouth, Jarrow or Wearmouth. 100m from the sea shore and 10min to reach the Spanish Palace and the centre of the seaside resort, very pleasant for a walk. I spent a fantastic stay and I think I am booking a new stay by 2 or 3 years.
Cons: The washbasin was too tiny.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lee & Paul were really lovely, friendly and very thoughtful. They had only taken over the week before but its clear they are 'get stuff done' kind of people and were already making improvements (to take it from very near perfect to perfect). Superb location - very, very close to the sea front and to the shops. Value for money. Helpful advice about where to get a special print I was looking for. We had the quadruple room to allow for our son to join us and there was plenty of room for all of us. Beds were really comfy, we all slept very well. Would definitely stay again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome, friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts, the food was top notch and very well presented. If there was anything you needed to know about the area Janet has a wealth of knowledge. It’s a beautiful guest house, spotlessly clean, and the photographs don’t do it justice. It really didn’t disappoint in any way shape or form. The guest house is very central to all amenities; the beach is only a few minutes walk as is the fun fair so very good for families too! There is also a lovely park for taking walks and also a boating lake. Very good for all and the children would love the little steam train ride that travels around the lake area. There are many restaurants within the vicinity so if you like Indian, Italian, Mediterranean or good old fish and chips there is something there to suit all tastes. The metro station is only a few minutes walk into the town area too. We took the metro to Newcastle for the day on a ‘day saver’ ticket that can be used as many times as you’d like in the day and the cost was only just a little over £5 per ticket per adult. Well worth it! It was our first visit to South Shields and we will certainly be returning.
Cons: There really wasn’t anything we didn’t like. We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay.

2.5 Mediocre
Cons: What I didn't like was the fact that I was charged twice for this booking and after 10 days I am still out of pocket £225 and got very little support from booking.com or the hotel. When the booking was made I was told that no payment would be taken from my account but this was not the case and £225 x 2 was deducted from my account by the hotel instead of £225 x 1 and now I have to chase up my bank for the extra deduction, not something you should have to do after what should be a relaxed hotel break, will not be using booking.com again.

Pros: The location is fantastic and very different to most coastal towns I’ve visited. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The building itself has a fantastic history and has great character.
Cons: Some elements of the rooms just needed a final touch as refurbishing has been underway. Nothing to detract from our stay though.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and a hotel with fantastic character.
Cons: Of the 3 nights we stayed we paid £13 per head for breakfasts for 2 of the mornings. For the 3 of us this totalled just short of £100. One of our party was a child, who we were told there was no reduction for. The breakfast, in terms of the quality & quantity of food wasn’t worth the additional cost.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here a few times before as we love the hotel and the place but never in a room with a sea view. It was definitely worth the extra money. The room was spacious and the bathroom had a separate shower and bath. We could not fault anything during our stay. Thank you Grand Hotel.

Pros: The location was great for our visit to be near friends in Whitburn
10.0 Excellent
Pros: free use of the pool
Cons: buffet breakfast by the time my ordered fried egg arrived the rest of my breakfast was cold
8.0 Excellent
Pros: View from the room was lovely, nice size room, decorated nicely, very clean. Great location and lots to see and do. Plenty of great places to eat.
Cons: Lack of pillows on the beds, one per bed which had no substance. The temperature of the floor we we’re on and the room was unbearable! Found it very hard to sleep, couldn’t cool the room down. The walk to the room was very long, accessibility seems to be a problem for the “annex” we seemed to be in. Also the shower had a lack of water pressure.
7.7 Good
Pros: we stayed here for our wedding night and staff upgraded us to the honeymoon suite free of charge and we had breakfast delivered to the room! This really made our wedding day thank you so much to the staff at the Sunderland Marriott.
5.7 Okay
Pros: Location of hotel
Cons: Breakfast food alittle under cooked. Perhaps there should be medium and well cocked. I prefer medium rare cooked steak but the cooked breakfast was too rare for me.

6.0 Good
Pros: Well appointed room, nice sea view, but on the small side for a Marriott - and one of the smaller rooms in this hotel
Cons: Housekeeping failed to service room on second day and had to be called back to do this. Sunday morning breakfast service very poor - could not cope with demand

Pros: Whole experience was very positive. One of the best hotel stays I've ever had.
Cons: None that I can think of. Drinks were quite expensive but the hotel was four star.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly, very good room with modern well finished en-suit, very comfortable bed and we'll cooked and filling breakfast
Cons: Not a major issue but due to location of property only on street parking which was free and unrestricted and plenty within a short distance from accommodation
9.3 Excellent
Pros: served quickly by the owner had that personal touch of family though not my type of breakfast as I'm Caribbean it was well done and well served too much to be honest, I hardly have that much for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised that breakfast was included in this package. room was spacious an entire family of four could sleep in
Cons: lighter covers were needed because of the summer heat but the room cooled down quickly. Lovely attic room can be self catering but no cutlery was provided. The television was a bit tricky to turn on perhaps battery needed replacing but was surplus to needs for such a short stay

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just right. We loved the spacious room. We loved the beds. We loved the breakfast. We loved the comfy homey feeling. We parked on the road but it was safe and near. Chinese takeaway nearby. Near the ocean. Near our Church. Duncan is very accommodating with his nice ponytail and six pack abs! Will be back.
Cons: That we were only staying for one night wish we could stay longer but we had to go

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a brilliant place to stay especially for me as I’m disabled and everywhere was wheelchair accessible & there is also a lift to all floors. It was worth every penny & it was very reasonably prices. The room was beautiful, very clean & the bed was so big & comfy. I loved the french doors, balcony & the view. All of the communal areas were very clean & tidy. The staff were very friendly, helpful & welcoming. They couldn’t do enough for us. We felt at home & very relaxed. The food in the bar was great, we really enjoyed it & it was very reasonably priced. There was a brilliant selection of dishes on the menu, something to suit everyone. The breakfast was good for the price. We will definitely be returning. It is easily one of the best places we have stayed. Absolutely perfect stay. Thank you very much.
Cons: The only downside was that their wasn’t any allocated disabled parking bays, so we ended up parking behind the hotel but luckily with the signs I had on the windows of my car, the people who parked at both sides of me left me enough room to get back into my car with my wheelchair.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast and very friendly staff.

Cons: The only complaint would be I couldn't get a hot fresh cup of tea to have with my breakfast.

Pros: Brilliant location and view Helpful staff Very comfortable bed Decent breakfast
Cons: Room was only serviced once in 4 night stay meaning bin was full, cup and glass unwashed and only one towel for 4 days same with shower gel. Room wasn’t en-suite and shower room at opposite end of corridor- lock didn’t work on one of the shower rooms.

Pros: Location is fantastic. Central to the town, and 2 minutes from the beach. Rooms were light, bright and very clean. Had the usual tea, coffee sachets in room, along with a nice treat of hot choc for the kids and packets of biscuits. Also bottled water. I asked for some more milk, and the very friendly reception staff handed me a huge box and said help yourself, encouraging me to take extra biccies for the kids. Can't fault it all and would definitely stay again.

Pros: Clean and tidy with a good breakfast
Cons: I was travelling through on cycling trip around the coast and stayed on a Friday night. The attached bars and adjacent bar where busy with people until nearly 3am and my room was at the front of the hotel. It just didn’t work for me.

Pros: the staff on arrival were excellent. very friendly and could not do enough for you. It was very warm and the breakfast was lovely. The staff were very sweet with my daughter and gave her a lollipop. So she was won over!!
Cons: Felt it was very much a contractors hotel due to the clientele and the nature of the room set up. But it was last minute so was perfectly serviceable.

Pros: The friendliness of all staff, nothing is a problem for them, lovely clean rooms, and great breakfast. After staying in many other hotels in this area would only ever go back there!
6.4 Good
Pros: Friendly, helpful, and efficient staff. Clean hotel. Great breakfast.
Cons: Noise from club downstairs and surrounding pubs. Area popular for stag and hen parties. Nothing against this but I was running the Great North Run the next day. To be fair however, we were grateful to get a room in the area having left it late to book. So we knew what we were letting ourselves in for. If hadn't been running, might have even joined the fun!
6.4 Good
Pros: Staff very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast.
Cons: None
3.2 Mediocre
Pros: Near the seaside
Cons: Noisy floor, filthy carpets, windows didn't open entirely, neighbourhood looks like a ghost city
