We wanted to attend a music festival in Mt. Solon. Since we weren't familiar with the region, we searched for lodging on the internet; most were well-known hotel or motel chains. The Inn at Old Virginia offered a range of choices in room features and a beautiful setting away from traffic and commercial activity. We made the reservation more than three months in advance and didn't think about it again until we arrived on a rainy Friday evening. As we drove up the driveway to the Inn we were impressed by the carefully maintained and landscaped grounds. It would be easy to go overboard with flowers and shrubbery, but the grounds are neat and in keeping with the simple elegance of this beautiful Inn. Ms. Carter greeted us, asked about our itinerary, gave us good advice about dining options in Staunton which suited our schedule and provided directions to the venue in Mt. Solon. Then we were escorted to our room. It was larger and more beautiful than shown in pictures on the website (no wide angle lens trickery). As we unpacked we enjoyed the view. Across a field we watched a dozen cattle trot along a hilltop. What a wonderful surprise and contrast in comparison to the usual hotel room view of a parking lot or interstate highway. The Saturday and Sunday breakfasts were excellent and served in a charming glass atrium at the back of the main house. The atrium is not the typical tinted glass solarium such as you might see added to a restaurant. It is a large, beautiful structure which you might find advertised in the Architectural Digest. What a pleasure to have breakfast in that room on a rainy (yes, all day) morning - a feeling of being outdoors without getting drenched! Our weekend of music and outdoor activity was a great experience, made even better when we returned to the comfort of the Inn and the opportunity to soak in our steamy whirlpool bath. I'm ready to make our reservation for next year, even before knowing the list of performers at next year's music festival.
Pros: The room and public spaces were immaculate and beautifully decorated. The food and service was equal to the best B&B experiences we've had in other countries and the US. Best of all was the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable owner and staff. We'll return

Cons: Parking is up a steep gravel hill. We arrived on a motorcycle and it was a little tricky. No problem for a car.
Pros: This place was quaint and an easy walk from there into town. The owner was very nice and breakfast was lovely. The bathroom was updated and I enjoyed having a robe provided since it was a shared bath.
Cons: The room showed 2 single beds online but was a double bed when checking in. The room was much colder than the rest of the house. The cheap wrapped soaps and plastic-wrapped plastic cups in the bathroom took away from the ambiance of the place.
Pros: Gracious owner - lovely porch for sitting. Wonderful breakfast. Beautifully decorated - it deserves an article in "Southern Living"!
Cons: Lots of stairs - two small flights just to get to the entrance. Rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors - so would be difficult for anyone with walking problems. Otherwise great place in an interesting town.

Pros: The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was adequate.
Cons: One of the reasons I booked this hotel was because it had a workout room. When I went to workout the night I arrived I noticed that the room would not open until 8 am the next morning. That was very disappointing. I am traveling and would like to be on the road by 8 - 8:30 in the morning. I like to get up early and get my workout in before leaving. That was not possible. They did offer that I could go across the street to a gym they had ties with, but that kind of defeated the purpose of staying at a hotel with a fitness room on site.
Pros: Great free breakfast selection--probably the best I've had at a standard hotel
Cons: Thin walls

Cons: Stains on carpet in room. Ripped shower curtain. Sounds of toilet seats slamming in other rooms throughout the night. Battery cover on back of TV remote was missing....batteries kept falling out. Waited 20 mins for breakfast once we ordered... when it came out, my omelette, toast, and home fries were ice cold. When I checked out of the hotel, I was asked how our stay was. I responded by saying "It could've been better". The reply from the girl behind the counter..."Looks like you reserved through a 3rd party, so I can't give you a receipt". What? You don't want to ask why I didn't enjoy my stay? Overall a very unpleasant experience.
Pros: Wait staff and dinner menu. Room was also excellent.
Cons: Refrigerator made a high-pitched humming noise.

Pros: My husband and I stayed at Motel 6 the weekend of October 1. This was a very busy weekend for Staunton and hotels were filling up fast. Despite booking online at the last minute our room was available and clean when we arrived to check in around 2:00 pm on Friday Sept 29. We had a newborn and two small dogs with us; there were no additional fees for any of them (I called ahead before showing up with them in tow). The location is close to the interstate but is not surrounded by other businesses; it was quiet at night. The free coffee was a nice touch. If we ever return to Staunton we will probably stay here again.
Pros: I liked the location, it was close to the horse show which we were attending.
Cons: The bathroom was disgusting with black mold around the tub, the bath mat was gross. I mean it was nasty. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were terrible. I'll not returen.

Cons: Nothing was remotely up to par
Pros: The woman at the front desk was super nice and welcoming.
Cons: The bathroom was dirty and outdated. One of our towels had a stain.

Cons: There was a mystery puddle of water on the bathroom floor that was dripping down from the room above us, there were two dirty mattresses leaning against the wall of our room, and there was no coffee maker in the room. There was a group of weirdos loitering on the hotel balcony when we first checked in.

Cons: The sheets were paper thin, the shower sweet had thick soap scum on it. The lamp didn't have a switch to turn it on or off. The coffee was the worse we ever had!
The front desk takes your credit card and emboss it, which is wrong. The vpamy needs to update the process of how you pay.
The desk clerk was rude!
Pros: It was okay for one night
Cons: Continental breakfast was minimal
Pros: Very clean and easy access!
Cons: Well maintained, but dated furnishings and tv.... No flat screens, old school tv sets.
