Love the do it yourself waffle breakfast Flat screen tv did not have hookups for my digital camcorder
We always get king suites with Hampton Inn, and have yet to be disappointed. This particular suite seemed a little bigger than average. Perhaps it was the floor plan.
Quick check in. Clean and spacious rooms. Accommodations
Loved the location. Felt safe, close to airport, and also close to the bay. The roads around were a little confusing.
Great location for Raiders fans. airport shuttle. Great staff
The staff was very welcoming and helpful. the room was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable to work in. I did not like it that the taxi driver who the hotel called in, did not have a meter and asked a higher price for the ride to the airport than the meter would show.
Very clean facilities, quiet location.
Clean and people were very nice there. The decor in the room was wonderful. Bathroom had a stool for ladies like me to put on their makeup. Full breakfast was the best of all. If we want to stay overnite again we would be staying there. No complaints at all!!
Convenient to a Chinese restaurant (east ocean - 1 block away) where we were guests for a birthday banquet. Easy to find through the Webster Street tunnel to Alameda. Cold drinks machine on every floor. Breakfast room could not accomodate all the guests wanting food at the same time. Encourage guests to take beakfast trays to their rooms.
First, I found that staying in Alameda as opposed to San Francisco, our destination, was not a bad idea at all. Parking is available and included. The room was spacious and clean. Continental breakfast was excellent; it included everything you would expect in a decent hotel. The mattresses were too soft for me, but the pillows were nice.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a minor issue with the room which they attempted to resolve immediately. It was also nice to have a decent size room with a separate sitting and sleeping area after having been in a room for about the same price across the bay that was a third the size. It was also 2 blocks from the Fireside which is a bar that one of my friends opened. That was the only reason I was staying in Alameda at all ;-) The pancakes were pretty lousy (Sam liked the waffles though). The air conditioning would not shut off in the room and we had to have someone come and fix it. They were super helpful though and offered us another room.
Great place to stay breakfast bar quick and easy
The comfort of the room. The room next door sounded like the people were in our room, when they were talking. The talking woke us up at 6:00 am.
I appreciated the buffet breakfast, morning paper, fitness center and suite design of the room which allowed me to have a separate area for my laptop. It was also convenient to public transportation and close to two good restaurants and a drugstore. Moderate street noise (mainly from sirens), but not a huge problem.
Excellent buffet breakfast, helpfulness of staff
Simple and cleaning no

Hotel was lacking ... wireless has poor reception. Breakfast was only coffee.
the front desk people were amazing. they helped me with anything i needed and were very polite.didn't care for the attitude from the manager. I had a 24 ft. u-haul stolen from the hotel property and later found out from the officer that did the police report that the area of the hotel is known for crime. if that info was on the hotel ad I would have thought twice before booking with them.
The room was clean, except the oven was really dirty. We arrived after 1am and had to wait 45 minutes before we could check in because the computer was doing an audit. They were not apologetic about it. Not much of a selection for breakfast. Bed was small and uncomfortable. Would not recommend.
I went to the Oakland vs Carolina football game and this location was perfect. We even had a post tailgate party in the parking lot with no complaints. Go RAIDERS! And it's right next door to Raiders Headquarters. Be sure to have your navigation handy, there's alot of rights & lefts to get there.
The hotel is nice and the room was nice size and clean. Unfortunately, though with very little more effort this hotel could be great, but instead it comes up lacking in major areas. The bed was horribly uncomfortable, and despite there being a nice kitchen area, there was no coffee maker! We went down to get coffee at 6:30, the time designated for the grab and go breakfast availability, but there was nothing available until 6:45.
It had hot water and felt secure. Within the flight path and got real loud during the night. I had to pay a $100 deposit to get the room. That was a first. The hotel was fairly new but the furniture looked like it came from thrift store. Very firm bed. Sticky floor in kitchen. No fun.

Paid extra to get a nicer room with a king size bed, instead I got a very cheap room that needed remodel with a king size bed that the sheets were too small to fit it. The sheets didn't even stretch to the edge, they were just laid on the mattress and during the night it came half off. I woke up during the night several times because of that. When complained in the morning they just said sorry to hear that but refused to give any kind of compensation.
We had a great stay. Jeremias was absolutely the BEST manager I've ever seen. Extremely helpful. He went out of his way to print out two separate sets of directions when we realized our group had been split up. He was quick to deliver extra pillows. The breakfast was fully stocked when he was there. Construction on our building started at 730am. So much for sleeping in. I was surprised we weren't warned. The last day we were there (Jeremias wasn't) breakfast was skimpy. Our plan was to lounge around until check out time but we promptly left when we realized the construction in our building wasn't stopping.
Excellent location for visiting downtown and pier 41 in San Francisco by ferry, 20 minutes ride.No parking hassle.
I liked the waterfront area, the pool, the breakfast was good... It was quaint & nice outside of the room. It wasn't super conveniently located to stores or anything else for that matter. The room was small. The shower was a tiny closet with no tub.
Great value great location Bar next door throwing things off the balcony at 230 in the morning
We were on a 2 day city break to San Francisco and were shocked at the prices of hotels in the city - then found this place. Just 20 minutes drive from downtown SF and a third of the price of the cheapest SF hotel. Plus nice setting on the bay, clean rooms and friendly staff.
It was conveniently close to my work. Manager was horrible with his customer service and could not accommodate my needs when I had issues with the room not having most outlets working to charge my devices for work. The room itself was really outdated and needed remodeling, most of their lamps didn't work either. The shower was a bit dirty and worn out. Overall a bad experience that I had to just leave.
Good Quiet place but don't have good restaurant near hotel Breakfast to poor, room for Breakfast not comfortable
We liked the location and the friendliness of the staff. The bed was remarkably in good shape. Small room, not well maintained and a bit dirty. The linens were shabby.
My husband and I enjoyed everything about the hotel. From the great views to the comfy beds. It was very pleasant. Thin walls. It wasnt very bad though, you could only hear the neighbors when they were talking pretty loud.
Staff was nice. By the water. Nice pillows. Rustin the bathroom. Small room. Rooms are adjoining and there is a lockes door which other people tried to open. Ceiling in the bathroom was cracked. Bed was uncomfortable. TV remote didn't work.
It was Cheap and had extra bed in the couch. I got what i paid for. It was what i expected it to be.
Nothing horrible Everything horrible
Excellent friendly and smart staff! Quick drive thru tunnel to Oakland. And five minutes from Ferry to SF wharf 41. Easy walk to Target and Safeway. Clean, airy room. Will stay here again.
Nice secluded location, private. Parking , & coffee is only available til 9:30 am
It was cheap, available and not too scary. The front desk personnel were helpful. Room was clean. Heavy bleach smell in lobby. Free shuttle runs every 30 minutes so keep that in mind when getting ready for flight time.
Ants in the bathroom, flies in the room... area was not nice and not very safe. Wound not go there again. TV was not clear. Basic cable only (at best).
overall facility was above par. Pool, spa, continental bfast and computer/printer area met expectations. Biyonka was very helpful and smoking hot. My truck had all windows when I woke up in Oakland. Room pics online didn't match. Someone took the pics with a gopro
Very nice under every point of view..the room, the amenities, the pool, great breakfast and varied too. We could finally sleep well, great beds.
It was clean. Everything worked. The staff was not very friendly. We were put in a smoking room on our second night when we had asked for a non smoking room.
I book this room last minute and was looking for value. I was visiting SF and wanted a place that was affordable. I went to school in Berkeley, so I somewhat knew this general area. Room's in SF were pushing roughly 150 a night not including parking. I booked this room for about 80 bucks and free parking! The room overall was nice. I was not looking for anything 5 star, but I sure as hell was not going to stay at some dump. 80 bucks for a place to stay the night seemed just fine to me. Also, this was a really nice excuse to explore a little bit of Oakland. =D
Staff was extra nice late at night Hot tub ice cold after a long day drive. Not able to get on wifi perhaps bandwidth
Room was clean. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Easy check in and out. Friendly night clerk.
We were given no choice but a "smoking" room. The smell was disgusting. The room was on the ground floor with no window screen so keeping the window open was not an option. The waitress at a nearby restaurant warned us it was a dangerous neighborhood.
The room was clean but a little small. The bed small for two persons and the current of water for the bath tub was really slow. The rate of the hotel is kind of pricy.
Simple but good breakfest, good price and next to San Francisco and friendly staff. I was booked a non smoking room but the room has a hard smoke smell.
I always get a clean quiet room when I come here to travel with my family. Never had a complaint yet.
Location, Breakfast buffet, room Check in process : Brittany did not communicate very well and it resulted in some misunderstandings about our reserved room.
A safe spot in oakland
The hotel was very clean with friendly staff. The atmosphere felt comfortable and safe. No complaints at all.
The staff was pleasant and the shuttle service was a nice convenience. Initial room assigned was already occupied. Hallways had an unpleasant odor. Building, rooms and furnishings all seemed in need of updating.
EVERYTHING! The customer service was outstanding, the rooms were large and very clean. Awesome location (it's worth the extra $ to have a water view room). I liked that they offer a free shuttle to Jack London Square. Parking at this hotel is FREE (unlike some other hotels nearby). The pool and bar is really nice, too. There wasn't anything I disliked about this hotel. I will definitely stay if I'm in the area again.
Great experience! Hotel was clean and well-kept. Rooms were very comfortable. Rooms facing the water were extremely quiet at night. A relief after staying at other hotels in Oakland with lots of street noise. Also a delight to look out at the water in the morning. Beds and desks were comfortable. Staff was generally very helpful. A couple times staff were curt, seemed irritated at doing their jobs. Also, they changed their shuttle service to only pick up and drop off at four locations, instead of anywhere within a three mile radius. The shuttle was still extremely helpful, and this wasn't that big of a deal, but it should have been properly advertised on their website ahead of time.
The check-in folks were friendly. Your description of having rooms on the bay side or a 'view of the city' was very deceiving. The view of the city was a view of interstate 880, and was incredibly noisy since you're located right on the edge of the interstate. It was the noisiest room I have ever stayed in, and there was no way to get any sleep. The rugs were not clean, and the plumbing in the room was poor.
Staff was AMAZING. They bent over backwards to help me. They had free shuttle service to Downtown Oakland! Place was clean with delicious, free breakfast. Hands down, though, it was staff that made this place excellent! Nothing. I will stay here again. Best hotel in Oakland!
Pool area was too noisy our room was located right above it.
Central location close to Jack London Square, hotel was of a high enough standard with nice pool. Near Amtrak station plus walkable or short taxi/bus from BART.Great vegetarian restaurant across road called Souley Vegan which does a fantastic barbecue tofu plus a bar next door to this with a seriously extensive selection of world brews, not sure of name but may just be called Beer. Only stayed one night but an enjoyable stay nonetheless. I would definitely go back to Oakland and this hotel plus would consider staying here for San Francisco if I could not get a reasonable hotel deal in Frisco in future visits, especially as only a short bart journey to Embarcadero in Frisco. None to report
The first room tey gave us did not have a bathtub, which I really wanted. I called the desk and they upgraded us to a bigger room, with a tub, by sending someone up to our current room with a key for the upgrade. no
Nice staff, good room service menu & not that expensive for food. The bathroom was so small!
location, recent improvements to the hotel
Staff at the front desk was nice and helpful. Park and fly was convenient. Found a cockroach in the room that wanted my sandwich and some of the power outlets didn't work.
This hotel was very close to the airport and had a free shuttle. The rooms appeared clean. Very outdated, did not feel safe, could hear everything neighbors said, seemed more like a pay by the hour place
We didn't' come to vacation, but to have a place to sleep. The hotel was adjacent to the airport, available and safe. We stayed one night. The staff and shuttle service were great. Thank you.
2 entrances front and back access to pool. Easy and safe gated parking. Large spacious room for the money. No cons at this time
I loved the room and the space in the room. When I walked through the hallway it smelled so good....awesome experience!
Staff was great took care of us and where on point which all the little details Needed more shampoo and conditioner!!...fit under my boob
Not safe !!! Had to park down 2 blocks in parking garage !!! No hotel parking like listing said !!! No deals like we were PROMISED FROM KYACK !!! You could tell our ROOM WASNT CLEAN...THERE WERE USED TOWELS EVERYWHERE AND WHEN WE CALLED TO COMPLAIN ALL THEY SAID WAS HUH THATS STRANGE !!!! Lame not worth it if your looking to go to a show and dont want to worry about your stuff...THEN DONT STAY HERE !!!! I work at hotels and this was by far one of our worst experince !!!
We asked for ice and got it right away. The bed was comfortable. The walls and floors were so poorly sound insulated that we felt we were living WITH the people next door. We heard every word, every TV program, and every time they flushed their toilet or showered. Luckily, most people were quiet after 10:30 PM. Lastly, for the price we would have expected rooms to be upgraded instead of plastic showers and routine accommodations. Maybe if we had a quieter room, the other elements would not be so troublesome. However, we didn't.
Convenient to San Francisco and the East Bay. Nice view of The City and The Bay. Good comp breakfast changes every day.
Breakfast was good with decent variety of foods. The week day front desk staff not helpful or friendly.
Overall good experience Parking limited
It's been years since I've stayed at Jack London Square. It's definitely gone up a step. Waterfront Hotel is an easy access location - both for driving and the train. Great restaurants both right in the Square and a short stroll away. The rooms are clean and comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet even with all the events during our stay. The ONLY drawback was the hallway maze to our room. If we just followed the numbers we eventually got there...but no two paths were the same. Our coffee maker was broken but they delivered hot coffee to us immediately on request. The TV was also out but the cable was replaced while we were out for dinner. Perfect service.
Clean rooms, close to downtown Oakland, waterfront views. Thin walls and ceiling, could hear everything our upstairs neighbors were saying and doing, including peeing into the toilet! We were placed in a weird room right off the lobby and could hear people arriving and checking in. Was not worth the money we paid.
Lovely evening meal at restaurant having a limo called for us when we had asked for a cab!
The room was incredibly dirty and the beds uncomfortable. To be specific there was an unflushed toilet with something not so pleasant upon our arrival into our room. Completely unacceptable. The television did not work either. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again.
The only thing we liked is its location, right next to Jack London Square. The bathroom is tiny and outdated. no tub for my children. Advertised "city view" was actually view of the back alley/parking lot. $25 valet parking was mandatory, no self parking. not going to recommend or stay there again.
The staff did a wonderful job. very friendly Parking and the cost to park no breakfast for guess
There is a shower only, no bath. The wall is thin. The noise were heared from the adjacent rooms or the passage. The room is narrow.
Balcony, view, color, staff, proximity to office. told it'd be $20 for valet, but valet told me $25. I was charged $20. train sucked.
Everything was perfect. Except the breakfast at the attached restaurant was fairly expensive and the service was not superbre, but the hotel itself is a true pleasure to stay in.
The location is nice, good restaurants within walking distance in the area. The staff was pleasant and helpful and the wine & cheese hour was a nice touch. Everything was great with the exception of the thin walls, which unfortunately makes it a deal breaker for me.
The location in Jack London Square, fairly spacious rooms Unexpected noise of the Amtrack as it passed very close to hotel
Room is spacious with view and amenity look friendly. Internet connection is slow. Car parking is expensive.
I like the bathrooms and set up of room The kids that were unsupervised scattered through building The noisiness The front staff
The hotel was very modern and clean which is a big plus for me, especially with children. I loved that it was so close to the Bay bridge and minutes away from SF. Staff was friendly and the overall location was nice and close to the water. n/a
The View and breakfast were great Elevator was dinging all night....and yes being so close to the elevator probably didn't help, but that is something that they should be able to mute for individual floors as needed
I had a room I requested an early check-in by e-mail. I received a text saying I could check in at 2pm. Staff told me check in is at 3pm, period. Did not even check to see if rooms were available.
Easy highway access, decent size room and good response to problems. We didn't like being charges 15 a day for parking and that the common areas were unkept even in the early mornings, ie overflowing garbage cans, ashtrays and glasses left from the night before on the patio area.
Ariana at the front desk was incredibly helpful, professional and very friendly. Ariana should be commended for her customer service. I booked the room via Kayak. I thought I was getting a King Bed. When I checked in the front desk gal ( who was not very helpful!!) said that the hotel was oversold because there were 2 family reunions going on and she needed to put me up in another local hotel. I didn't have time to do that, as I needed to be in SF within the 1/2 hour. She allowed me to go up to a meeting room to change clothes and said that the meeting room had a pull out sofa. So, I told her that instead of running around Emeryville to another hotel, I would just take the sofabed. Ends up there wasn't a sofa bed. She also said she would send up my bags...but she didn't do that either! Housekeeping had to come in with a blow up mattress. NOT a comfortable night's sleep. However, a gal named Ariana was now working at the front desk. She gave me free parking and 2 vouchers for some food/wine. I also called Kayak and they spoke with the hotel and my room was comp'd all together. I appreciate that greatly...but would also like to mention that if the hotel was already oversold...I shouldn't have been able to reserve a room. A lot of hassle...but between Kayak and Ariana...it was resolved to my satisfaction. Thank you!
Great room set up. Good desk and chair for a business traveler. Like the coffee in the lobby now as well. Sad you have done away with glassware in the room. I think of motels as having paper cups and nice hotels provide glasses. I enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day and don't like it in a paper cup. You have also dropped the level of amenities provided in the bathroom.
The bilinds were not fully functional. Minor maintenance. That's all.
Easy highway access and good response to requests. We had booked three rooms for a family business trip. One room had a cracked sink, two rooms had ill fitting front doors which let so much light under the door as a light was left on. One room had drapery that had holes in it.
Rooms were fine. Hotel was clean. Reception and bar service awful. Card keys did not work. A/C stopped working. Small, crowded lobby. Shattuck area is not inviting.
Location. Front desk service was horrible. Room Service was worst. Terrible food. Had a hair in it. Oatmeal was lumpy Service was way off.
I've stayed here several times over the last few years; I had a flawless, enjoyable experience each time. This last trip they even held some rather bulky packages / equipment which had arrived a week early for work, without question. The staff is always friendly, rooms are immaculately clean, and the location (right across Allston from the Downtown Berkeley BART, a block off Berkeley's campus, and close to several good dining experiences) is excellent.
Every staff member I encountered was smiling and went out of their way to say hello, open doors, offer to help, etc. Very impressive!
I really liked everything about this place. My room was very stylish, and it came with all the usual amenities. The room was smaller, so I'm not sure if I would be happy there if I had to share the space with someone else. I don't know if all the rooms are that size, or if I just got a small room because I was by myself. For just me, it was the perfect size. The AC works well, which I've come to learn isn't a given at many "upscale" hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of everything in Berkeley, so there are plenty of restaurants, drugstores, cafes, etc. within walking distance. It is conveniently located next to the downtown Berkeley BART station. I didn't have a car, so I didn't need to deal with parking, but I imagine it's not easy or cheap. The restaurant has really good food. There is plenty of seating in the lobby/bar area to meet with people to discuss business or have a couple drinks. I just really liked it here. They focus so much on helping each customer as much as possible, that several of us stood waiting at the check in desk for a really long time while one obnoxious customer waxed poetic about all the things he wanted to do while he was in Berkeley. They need to be more conscious of calling for help when a line starts to form.
Conveniently located in downtown Berkeley, across the street from the BART station and a couple blocks from the Cal campus. Some nice restaurants and bars nearby. Very nice accommodations and this was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in. I never heard a single sound outside of my room. Rooms are a bit small but still very nice and comfortable.
Bar & restaurant were under renovation-- if I had known at time of booking I would have stayed somewhere else
Clean and vast room, everything working as it should.
Since my son started attending Berkeley two years ago, I only stay at the Hotel Shattuck when visiting him. Thus far, I've stayed at there six times. I have NEVER been disappointed in the accommodations. Admittedly, some reviewers complain about the price. But, hey, considering the location, accommodations, staff, and amenities, I'm not going to complain.
Proximity to the airport and the front desk staff was awesome. It was perfect.
Very clean Very comfortable bed and room Close to the airport - good for very early or late flights Convenient shuttle service to the airport and BART station I could print out my boarding pass for free on the lobby computer Compared to other hotels in the area with similar quality, it's very good value Complementary wifi had issues - the signal showed as strong, but I would have to reconnect almost every 30 seconds, and that's not an exaggeration. The device doesn't have this problem with other networks, so the problem seems to lie in the network itself somewhere. There is free Internet in computers in the lobby, and I would recommend using that instead.
The rooms are extremely dated, and have a very bad smell.
Very convenient to airport. Pick up and delivery to and from airport very timely. Hotel clean and staff personable. Would prefer to have internet access available in all rooms and included in hotel rates. Restaurant staff (waitress and kitchen) is slow and food is fair at best, especially for breakfast.
comfort of the sheets hallway carpet was old and the television was not modern
Proximity to where a concert was occuring.
Pickup at car rental and transport to airport
Clean large rooms, friendly staff, near airport Nothing
Eveything! It was really confortable and the environment was really friendly. Totally worth the money!
I liked the location to oracle arena and the coliseum. What I didn't like was the squeaky floor above. EVERYTIME someone walked in the floor above you could hear it.
Convenient locatation, gated parking. The rooms are tired. When you walk in the room its hard to believe that this is a Hilton property. This goes for the mini lobby in each of the satellite buildings. Needs a complete makeover or become a new company line called Hilton dormatory .
Es war sauber. Der Preis war unverschämt. Die Lage so lala und eher laut. Parken und Frühstück teuer.
I like the fact that the hotel was closed to everything that we needed from restaurants, bars and drugstores. The hotel staff were very friendly from the valet attendant to the front desk. Our flight got delayed and they were able to accommodate our check-in time. We understand that parking is an issued around the city but we thought it was expensive for the hotel to charge $45 for valet parking and there are a lot of homeless people walking around. I wouldn't walk around the city by yourself at night.
The valet parking service was too expensive and too slow.
Like that it's close to oracle arena and bart system. Staff during day time was super nice and helpful. Thanks Jordan, John, and Jose the driver was great. Didn't like that there was no continental breakfast for us. The restaurant is nice but pricey. Literally there isn't any shops around hotel. You have to take the bart to get anywhere. Good for in and out business but nothing else.
It was a very confortable Hotel. Very new and clean, bulit few months ago. I will go back for sure if I am in San Francisco. Very close to thwe airport. Very kindly they come to pick me up to the rental car location. GREAT !!!!! NO
Clean and comfortable Way overpriced for this market. Should be $60-$75 a night.
The room was clean and comfortable The staff was horrible. Didn't seem like they cared at all. Upon check in the lady at counter was watching something on her tablet and continued to watch it while I standed there and waited to be checked in. Totally rude and unprofessional.
Staff was helpful and courteous.
Staff cleanliness all good. Overpriced restaurant and bar
The staff was very helpful and friendly and the location was perfect for our stay. Unfortunately, we had to pay for parking when we stayed.
Very friendly and accommodating staff at the front desk. I had to drop off our rental vehicle the night before leaving Oakland and they actually came to pick me up from the rental facility to take me back to the hotel. In the morning I caught the hotel shuttle to the airport. The shuttle driver was friendly and helped with everything we wanted to do, even suggesting places we could eat nearby. The free breakfast at the hotel was Fantastic with lots to choose from. The rooms were comfortable with good amenities in the bathroom. There was a strong smell of mothballs in the stairwell and hallway of the back right wing of the hotel where we stayed. That had me scared a little as we came in but the rooms were fine and clean.
Overall the room was very comfortable and well decorated. The bathroom has a slight smell but it did not look dirty in any way. There is a restaurant on the premises so that made it easier for me on a business trip to relax and get work done before my meeting. Plenty of parking. Smell in bathroom and they charge for printing from the business center.
I'm a heavy sleeper but the wafts of cigarette Smoke from the other rooms was pretty bad. How about having smoking floors and non smoking floors like every other hotel? Instead they have smoking rooms next to non smoking rooms.
Night manager who checked me in was very nice and professional The hallways had a musty smell
Staff try hard to please This was my second state; the two were about a week apart. The first one was good, but there were lots of problems this time. The main one was with the key, which failed repeatedly. Also, I tried to print something in the business center, but it does not have a printer and the one at the desk (which was supposed to be accessed via the business center) also failed.
Mother-in-law & I were in a room for the disabled. It was obviously not put together with input from a handicapped person. But it was clean, quiet and comfortable.
The room was great. Did not get to spend too much time in it though. Morning clerk was great! Clerk who checked us in was not in good mood and it really showed. She was very short and seemed like we were bothering her. Others were being given complementary water. We were not. We were unsure where to go in parking lot and building. We were not told of the free breakfast and missed it completely.
