Cons: The office had just moved and there was no signage and telephone communication was poor. It took me an hour and a half to return the car in Oslo.
Cons: I used the gps twice to get to an Avis center once to check a low tire light and the second to turn the car in. Both times the gps took me to an incorrect location even though I used the Avis fast key.
Shocked at the one-way fee!!!
Pros: AVIS in Bergen was extremely helpful. Due to the bicycle race we could not return the car as planned. The local AVIS people were very accommodating in agreeing to pick up the car and allowing us to catch our flight back to Stockholm. They could not have been more helpful. The poor rating is solely due to the excessive one-way fees and the failure to explain these to us.
Cons: Nobody unexplained costs for a one-way rental and fact that they could change this fee at their discretion. The Bergen AVIS office increased the one-way fee by 3x (from 4000 SEK to 12000 SEK) without any notice that they were doing that. We did not discover this until we returned from our trip and I checked our credit card statement. The total cost of the 3-day rental was over $2300.00. We feel cheated and taken advantage of and will likely not rent from AVIS again! When I called AVIS customer service I was told there was nothing that could be done....in essence it was our fault for not asking in advance. extremely disappointed.

Pros: The car itself was fine.
Cons: When I arrived in Bergen, Norway, to get the car, I was charged an additional $167 for "mandatory" insurance, despite the fact that I had selected insurance when I made the original rental agreement. I agreed only because I could not rent the car without agreeing, and my itinerary depended on having a car from that day. Immediately after returning to the US, I researched the "mandatory" insurance, but even Avis was unable to tell me. I am currently in a dispute with Avis through my credit card company. I also received an additional charge of $25.43 with no explanation. When I requested on, Avis sent documents in Norwegian rather than sending docs in a language I can understand.
Cons: Our flight was very early and we needed to drop the car at 5 am in the Oslo airport. However there was no one in the airport rental car return site that early, and even worse, we couldn't find any key drop box at the site, not to mention any instructional sign for early returns. It turned out that the key drop box was "inside" the nearby terminal whose location was not available anywhere in the site. We needed to run across the airport not to miss our flight, and it was not a good experience at all. It's a big bummer that they did not have a key return box at the car return site.
