Super easy at the desk

Clerk tried to triple our price
Pros: Car was clean and had no issues running
Cons: The clerk behind the counter gave us next to no instructions and almost tripled our rate that was previously booked through Kayak. If we didn't call her out on it, she would have gotten away with it.

Pros: Best price
Cons: Long line to pick up car. Counter personnel took too long and tried to up - sell even after saying NO multiple times. Didn't explain check out process. No person at exit gate, only a drop box for forms.

Cons: Transmission in first vehicle was questionable, we returned the car after one day. Windshield and mirrors were extremely dirty making for poor visibility.

2 Hour Wait
Cons: The check in line at Maui airport was over 2 hours long. I left and paid double at a nearby competitor.

Ok if you have patience and short trip
Pros: Quick counter service, shuttle was quick
Cons: Key fob to car died, waiting time, new car was dirty, both cars had more than minor body damage

Dollar In Maui
Pros: I like the opportunity that renting from Dollar in Maui presents. They have a daily rate that extends to their whole fleet. I rented a compact car and they gave me the opportunity to have a Nissan Mini Van that was available, which I accepted. No additional costs.
Cons: I can't think of a thing I didn't like about this rental.

Last choice by far
Cons: The rental went over the scheduled time by a few hours due to an unexpected delay in my flight and I was charged a complete full day. I forgot my sunglasses and by the time the car was being cleaned an employee had already stolen them. I missed my flight waiting for management to locate the car I had dropped off 15 min prior. There are few honest people in the world, and your employees are no exception.

Pros: Returning the car
Cons: And the wait time to see an associate was about 15 minutes, then we had to wait additional 25 to 30 minutes to get our car even though I had reservations. After finally getting the keys and I walked out to look at the car, no one told us that it was a self inspection which is fine except I would like to of known that ahead of time. The fine print on the paper they gave us said that you needed to notify them any dents on the car before exiting . Looking around you could tell others were unsure the process due to lack of communication. After we drove all way back to the hotel 30 minutes was an able to lock the car with the remote. But you could lock it manually which is fine I didn't want to waste the time driving all way back to swap out cars. The second day we had our car at one or two bugs no big deal. The next day we drove the road to Hana, we purchased some banana bread and within minutes roaches were everywhere. I killed what I could, but they were still more. Ultimately upon returning the car initial play the service desk was not empathetic to our situation. I can see that if you grew up on the island this may be common but it's not common else where. And the initial customer service with poor, lacking any real effort to resolve the situation. Finally after our third or fourth request to speak with a manager she finally came out and was helpful. Unfortunately kayaks review failed me this time. I went to Alamo on Kauai, had a clean car in 5 minutes. They made sure we were happy with the car. They ran extremely efficient and recommend Alamo .

Pros: Very easy to reserve and pick up the car.
Cons: A bill was emailed to us the day after returning the car. The bill was $163 greater than the reservation rate. The error was corrected but it was aggravating.

Car needs to be fixed
Pros: The return was fast and simple, with the deed bonus of a shuttle taking us to the gate.
Cons: The car was in poor condition, I made a complaint to the manager but was told it's fine. It made me uncomfortable but this couldn't be avoided unfortunately. If I were to rent again I would go with another vendor who cared for their renters and passengers.

Thought it was nice...then realized how much I paid...
Cons: When picking the car up, I felt like I was being sold on something and the amount I paid was WAY more than what I was looking for. They were nice and all, but it seemed like it was a profit-first rather than customer-first service. It was like the salesman was trying to do everything he could to make me spend a few more bucks. The back seat of my car also had a large gum stain or something on it.

Pros: The vehicle handled well and provided safety and comfort for my family of 5.
Cons: There are some important provisions about the use of debit cards thru Dollar Car Rental that are not highlighted at the time of booking. Of course, they are in plain site once you are in their office, but it is something that consumers should know BEFORE booking. The debit card used is charged for the entire amount at the beginning of the rental AND you must provide a second identification AND proof of a returning trip from the same airport! This is just a nuisance. It's even worse if at the beginning of your trip, you are DOUBLE CHARGED the total amount of the 10 days rental, as happened to me. I had over $1200 hold in my bank account for 5 days while on vacation! NOT GOOD!

Pros: Everything about the experience was awesome - there was a long line that moved quickly, the service was top notch, the representative was friendly and attentive.
Cons: Mycar coukdve been washed. It was clean in the inside but not the outside. Not a big deal; just an observation. They are normally washed before being rented so it was unusual.

Car seat charges are predatory
Cons: They charged us more to rent car seats than it costs to rent the car. Felt like a total scam. The reps and managers didn't help at all. When I figured out that AAA gets you your first car seat free they refused to honor that deal because of the "way i booked it". Overall, customer service was a nightmare and expressed no concern for my issue.

Pros: you could easily walk from the airport if you knew where it was, rather than wait for the shuttle.
Cons: shuttle to the rental car was a long wait at night and the line took some time once we arrived.

Not what I asked and pay for
Pros: Good has mileage
Cons: They tried so hard to get me to upgrade so I did fir an extra 18.50 per day, then they didn't even have the car after waiting for 1 1/2hrs. They wanted to give me a free upgrade to an suv. I didn't want that, just give me what I paid for. Then the lady says they have an economy car (the original car I reserved before I paid for the upgrade) I could take. NOW why would you talk me into an upgrade on a car you dint have and then offer me the exact car I originally paid for at an upgraded price? I was so frustrated after the long wait that I just took the economy car and left. NEVER pay for an upgrade. If they don't have what you reserved then they should upgrade you for free.....period. NEVER going with dollar again.

Cons: An extra $13 dollars a day to let my wife drive? Feel ripped off The Nissan Altima is horrible for the front passenger. The seat is too low and not adjustable. Dollar could/would not give me an alternative vehicle.
