We had clicked upgrade at the very last option but it took away our automatic car unknowingly (which was more expensive and specifically set) when we did and caused lots of issues. Pickup took forever (roughly an hour), drop off was fine. Car was good, but had to drive a manual on the other side of the road which was not ideal. Upgrade didn’t actually upgrade our car class either.

The price was absolutely extortionate. I paid $750 for the rental in July, which was supposed to be fully paid, and when I arrived to pick up the car, I had all my insurance documents on hand, they charged me another €450, then after that, my choices were, pay €6000 deposit, which I never was made aware of and did not have, or lose the money I already paid, or pay another $1650. These were horrible options at 5am. The car that I thought was going to cost $750, actually cost me $2800. I will never rent a car through Kayak or Sixt again in my life. A disgraceful way to treat travellers coming to visit a country. Ruined my vacation and stripped me of all my spending money for my vacation.

There wasn't alot to like. Once we arrived at the Hertz counter we were told that we would have to pay an additional 50 euros a day for insurance which ended up costing almost as much as the vehicle. I couldn't remember after being awake for 24 hours if I had purchased third party insurance and the guy behind the counter was interested in helping find out. I fact, he made sure to advise us that they would require and $5,000 dollar hold if we did have third party insurance. Once we got fleeced at the check out counter we made our way down to the vehicle where the attendant drove the car up, parked it and threw me the keys. Zero explanation on how the vehicle operated, seats stowed or any of the controls worked. Very unsatisfied with the whole experience.

The car only had just over half a tack of petrol at pickup and it could have been cleaner. The staff responded well, but it should have been fully fueled and ready. We also had issues with the insurance - this could be a Kayak problem. At pickup, I was told we didn't have standard insurance, which I though wasn't even possible. We had to pay extra to get standard insurance! I can understand full cover with zero excess being optional for extra cost, but standard is legally required, so I do not understand why it wasn't included by Kayak.

The Dublin Airport Budget staff would not accept the insurance that we purchased on Kayak, so we had to abandon our rental from Budget after two attempts. I also emailed them with a letter of coverage from our credit card company, asking if they would accept that, and they never replied.

The person at pickup was not helpful as she insisted on having a letter from my credit card detailing that it would provide car insurance in Ireland. There was a hold of over $8600 CDN placed on my credit card to cover potential damages and gas (if not on Full when car returned). It was unclear if the hold for damages would have been applied if I’d had the letter. The vehicle was not that clean, inside or out, and clearly had been driven through narrow roadways in Ireland, based on the amount of scrapes and scratches on its body. Otherwise the rental was fine and we appreciated having an automatic hybrid, especially given the steep cost of gas. The rental price was also terrific compared to other car rentals I’ve had recently.

Pretty terrible. Took forever for their “shuttle” to bring us to their sketchy off-site location. Once there they make you sign a pad as they “explain” the rental contract vs letting you read it, and adding their random fees along the way. When you finally get done you realize the cost is more than 5x what your online booking said it would be, so when you try and refuse the car at that point they say, sorry, you signed a contract (that you havent seen yet) and your only option is to take the car or find a way back to the airport to find other options. Just dont do it.

During pick up I thought I was attending a circus act! Very unorganized and uncaring group of workers. The lady at the front desk was excellent but the experience after that was chaotic! It took one and a half hrs.to finally get the vehicle we ordered two months earlier. They had the four of us outside standing in a windy cold morning telling us every 10 minutes that the car would be ready in 10 minutes. No bathroom and no place to sit. Very unprofessional!

The car rental company was cooperative But the problem was with Kayak they did not explicitly mentioned that the rate was with out even basic cover so when I went to pick my car up I had to pay for basic cover also which ended up costing me almost double. Will never book again via brokers as they appear cheap but actually they are hiding the fact that insurance is not included.

The insurance situation was absurd. In order to decline their coverage they wanted a 5000 euro deposit and printed paperwork showing you had coverage through some other vendor. The person at the counter acknowledged that our credit card likely provided insurance but was not interested in discussing further. We were just shooed away when we tried to ask questions. This information needs to be clearly explained ahead of time, not on a random cardboard cutout on the desk at time of pickup. Instead you are forced to pay for overpriced third party insurance you don't need.

I pay in advance for a full coverage insurance and at the counter for check in they told me that they didn’t accept the insurance I hired and charged me a ridiculous amount for a new insurance. They also charged a different price for the rental. The car was all scratched. Other than that, everything was okay.

Pick up what a s*** show, it took nearly two hours, despite early check in and pre reservations. After being talked into an upgrade and quadrupling our original price, we set off! Three hours into the drive we broke down, waited over two hours for roadside assistance in the middle of nowhere with a 4 month old baby, and eventually were told to taxi to our accommodations and that a car would be dropped off to us in the morning. Our accommodations had no potable water, and no cell service. We picked up enough groceries for dinner and breakfast the next morning. After hours back and forth of staff denying that they ever said they would drop us off a car and that we needed to cab to the nearest depot (they couldn’t even book us this cab because we were staying rurally, and again, we had 0 cell service), they finally agreed to drop us off a car. In the end, we went over 24 hours with no vehicle, and 12 without water and food due to Europcar’s negligence. The car they brought us didn’t fit our luggage (the reason we had upgraded was so that our car fit our luggage, and had no GPS (another feature of the original upgrade). Never booking with Europcar again! I highly advise against.

Charged excess fees that weren’t explained up front. Forced to buy insurance, again, if I had known up front it was a requirement I would have been fine with it. Staff was fake-nice, while continually stating I was either misunderstanding what was originally said, or just plain incorrect/making things up. Let’s face it, we all know the bar starts low rental car companies, but I’ll never use Keddy/Eurocar again.

Charged us a ridiculous amount of money for a 2 mm scratch on the rim of one tire which we claimed was there when we picked up. We didn’t think it at all significant to report at pick up. And now we are being charged for it which was always there.

The credit card hold amount is very high. It appears that is standard for Ireland. Taking the full insurance is a good idea anyway, and lowers the cost. Service was very good all round.

Totally misleading, quoted $125 for the car then pushed us to take a bigger car and wouldn’t accept the insurance we already had. Total got to almost $1,000 after they added their insurance. Cancelled and went with Budget. Got a very nice car with insurance for $600. Stay far away!

The wait time at Dublin Airport is ridiculous. The staff push you to upgrade services, like adding unnecessary additional insurance, and to pay more for a car with an automatic. They also said they had photographed the damage on the car, but had not photographed all damage, I insisted they photograph the car completely.
