Cons:The pick up process at the Geary Blvd location was tortuously slow. I waited in a short line for almost an hour for a car. Then they took a woman ahead of me who had called that morning for an insurance car rather than making her wait her turn. They appeared to be seriously short staffed and unpreReviewed 19 Jul 2019

Your Phone Customer Service SUCKS!!!Cons:The location of the rental office was in a horrible neighborhood, half a mile from the metro stop. That explains why the pick up location was so much cheaper than everywhere else. The hours were horrible - closing at noon on Sundays?? Both when I picked my car up and when I dropped it off, the office was jam packed with customers. But your phone customer service is the WORST. I called to ask about extending the lease by 2 days. I was told that it would cost over $200 to do so. THAT is ridiculous, even if I was going past 1 month, why not start a new rental with the same vehicle and spare us all the aggravation. $300 to change the location of the delivery of the car to a location 10 miles down the road. Also RIDICULOUS. It was frustrating the customer service rep on the phone suggested that I could call the office where I rented the car, but then admitted that doing so would not change the prices - why even suggest it then? To waste my time?? It was APPALLING when the customer service rep got nasty with me and when I asked to speak to a manager, I sat on hold for over a half hour, finally giving up as they were all hoping I would do. I called back to ask that the manager call me. No one ever called me back. Ridiculous fees, atrocious customer service. I will never use Hertz again. Since when did cars stop being made with cruise control?!Reviewed 21 Feb 2016

Horrible customer service/horrible carPros:The AC workedCons:Customer service slow/horrible /unprofessional. Car stank, dark stains on every seat (blood?), hubcap missing, gas tank not full, front tires pressure at 60/back tires at 20. Coolant below 'low' level, suspension shot, Uber sticker on back window. This car should not be rented out to customers. It's a very bad reflection on your companyReviewed 3 Oct 2017

Minor damage to vehiclePros:Car was really clean and ran very smoothly. Easy to operate for a 12 seater. I was lucky to have my vehicle ready (since it was a much larger vehicle than most people needed)Cons:Windshield had a small crack. Sensors are off in the car. It always said the rear passenger door was open. Tried multiple times opening and closing the door but it didn't change. The line was moving extremely slow at pick up. There were multiple people that had to wait over 1.5 hours+. Upon drop off, since it was after hours, didn't know where to leave car, it exceeded the "maximum" height of garage I had to return to. Had to ask other garage personnel if it was okay to enter. This should have been made clear on pick up. Luckily Fernando was there to find me struggling and gave me directions.Reviewed 12 Jun 2017

Mediocre service at bestPros:Our upgraded car was comfortable (Jetta) and go excellent gas millage. Dropoff was easy.Cons:Customer services using the kiosk was HORRIBLE. It took at least 2-3 minutes to get a representative on the screen, when we were told it would be immediate. The card reader did not work properly due to chip in our card. The representative we were working with took all of our information 2x, even though all of the information was required when making the original reservation. Lastly, the kiosk representative HUNG UP on me when I did not answer a question she asked, i.e. "Is this a business or personal trip?". Keep in mind we picked up our car at 10pm after traveling all day. I was able to get my rental car after dealing with a rep on location and received an upgrade for our troubles; however, the upgrade wasn't even worth it because the gas agreement was not explained properly so we ended up losing money when we spent $40 for a tank of gas and we brought the car back with 3/4 tank remaining. Our car was also not inspected at pickup so when we returned it, we were accused of putting a large dent in one of the doors, which we did not, and had no proof we did not because it was not inspected prior to our leaving our pick-up location. Overall, I am very unsatisfied with out experience and will not be using Hertz again.Reviewed 11 Jan 2017

Hertz Ellis St (San Francisco) Pick-up was a JokePros:It was the only Hertz location in downtown San FranciscoCons:We scheduled to pick our car up on Sunday, and found out that they are only open between 9AM-12PM. We rushed back from a wedding brunch to downtown SF, but our Uber was caught in traffic on the way there and we were worried about arriving just slightly after noon. We called 4-5 times in the 45 minutes leading up to our arrival at 11:55, and no one ever picked up the phone. When we got there we were still there before noon, but the two guys running it were about to lock us out and not let us in. We heard the phone ringing and ringing in the background, they were clearly intentionally not picking it up for others as well. There was a woman who arrived exactly at 12:00 and they wouldn't let her in. They told her she had to go to another location, I believe at least 30 mins away. What kind of customer service is that? I gave them my name but they didn't go over ANY details of the rental (gas, insurance, bridge tolls, anything), they just asked us to meet them in the garage to get the car. I looked at them with a confused expression and asked," don't I need to sign anything?" and they were like, "oh yeah, whoops" and had us initial the main contract. When we got the car it was horribly dirty, had trash and a parking ticket from the previous driver inside and was literally on empty. We had to stop in the city before even reaching the freeway out because the car was running on fumes. I took photographs of the mileage, gas tank and condition of the car so we wouldn't be charged for these issues when we returned the car. We returned the car with a 1/4 tank of gas left and told the woman at the counter that it was completely empty when we got the car and that we shouldn't be charged for that. She seemed a bit confused, but then brushed it off. Was a ridiculous experience and really needs to be improved.Reviewed 19 Oct 2017

Scary and unsettlingPros:Nothing!Cons:I requested to pick up at San Francisco airport and drop off at Palo Aalto. First, when I arrived at the airport the car was booked at a location in the city NOT at the airport and the reservation was unable to be changed since they had no more available cars. Then, the drop off location is seasonal and closed for the season. Had I been able to pick up the car where I requested, I would have been unable to drop off since the location was closed and who know what charges I would have incurred from that point forward... I am unhappy with this device from every angle!!!Reviewed 26 Aug 2018

Incorrect informationCons:My husband booked my car in advance online. When I arrived at the pickup at SFO, the agent took three times as long as the agents around her. In addition, she claimed the cost was going to be $170+ when we booked for a rate of $70. I brought this to her attention, but she claimed fees and taxes brought the cost up. She also said the car had to be returned that day by 6:00. We later discovered we could not return the car that day and that we would only be charged $90. Totally unnecessary worry thanks to an impatient and incorrect agent.Reviewed 27 Mar 2017

Cons:Apparently when I booked somewhere along the line the drop off location changed to somewhere in San Francisco Geary ave. I never search for a San Francisco drop off location, I always search for SFO. This was a surprised when i returned the car and found that they could not close my contract yet. Service took a long time.Reviewed 30 Nov 2016
