when we arrived we were informed Hertz had no reservation for us. kayak is impossible to contract and Hertz has no ability to fix issue. This was absolutely unacceptable and we had to rent a car through another company. we lost one entire day of our vacation due to this as well as it caused much undue stress. I will NEVER use Kayak again and will tell everyone I know not to use kayak unless they want to ruin their vacation. if it wasn’t for the professionalism and care of Alamo we wouldn’t have had a car for our entire vacation. my entire family was affected by the inability of kayak to run a efficient and trustworthy program.
Kayak is booking to the signature aviation airport which is only for the private flights. They didn’t give me the car and they keep blaming Kayak. Had to pay 3 times to get the car last minute from the main airport.
Kayak sold us a fake Hertz pickup location at a private airport in Lihue that does not exist. They canceled last minute during Christmas, stranding 50 people when every car was sold out. Zero warning, zero help, zero accountability. We were forced to pay $1,000 for TWO DAYS for a basic replacement rental. Selling bookings that cannot be fulfilled is unacceptable. Fck you, Kayak - NEVER again.
Unfortunately they said it wasn’t a legitimate reservation with 3rd party and did not want to honor our reservation.
First of all, when we book the rental with Kayak to be picked up from Lihue airport, we expect it to be from one airport. Who knew, we got blind sided and kayak secretly switched it to a private airport in Lihue, which is still the same airport. However, your reservation will not be honored by hertz if you don't land in a PRIVATE JET!? even though it's the same Hertz that will be renting you the car?!?? Doesn't even make sense, there's only one Lihue airport and one Hertz in Lihue airport! It's a complete scam scheme that they pulled. Because Hertz will give you a car if you rebook the reservation for them at $500/day, compared to what was originally offered at $150/day.... so check your booking confirmation before you go! Kauai is an island where you need a car, it's impossible to call a Lyft Or Uber on an island. Note, we were the only victims, there were like 15-20 of us that landed on the island on 12/25 with the similar experience.
The experience was about as bad as it could have been. When booking the car I, along with 41 other people, were duped by a bait-and-switch on their website that allows you to think you’ve booked a car at the Lihue airport but instead switches it to the Lihue private airport during the checkout process. Total scam. And of course they had no cars available, and we weren’t allowed to pick up from the private airport, so for about 4 times the original cost that Hertz made me think I was going to pay I could go to their partner company, Thrifty. Use any other than Hertz when possible. Employees were totally unhelpful. One of those memorable garbage experiences.
