Mountain top view is beautiful
Not enough parking spots and the light reflection from other units and the ski resort(the red light pole) impacts the sky view through the glass at night.
Location is amazing, on a hill overlooking the area. Breakfast is okay for a hotel that size with everything you need but not huge. More coffee options instead of just filter coffee would have been nice. They had a few gluten free things as well. Cabins are nice but it was always a bit cold in there even with the highest temperature setting. Staff was very friendly.
It is crazy expensive and for that price I expect at least some services to be included. For example the sauna costs additionally 15 Euros per use (the one for two people, the other one for up to 10 people was 25.). We did the 2 hour husky experience which was announced to be a 45min husky ride. In the end it turned out, you go there, get a short introduction, ride the huskies for only about 20-25min (it was 4km). Then you have some time to pet them and take pictures, then you get a hot juice or chocolate and then you go back. Thats it. (They provide you with warm clothes though).
I proposed to my girlfriend while staying at Star Arctic and was in contact with Ida at reception prior to arrival. Ida went above and beyond to make our stay magical. Ida organised chocolates and roses I had ordered. We were also provided with a complementary upgrade on our sauna booking. This was a fantastic experience. While staying here we enjoyed the superb dinning experience with breath taking views and second to none service. I would recommend the glass roof cabins as they are quite the experience especially when they provide you with the ability to view the aurora from the comfort of your bed! Would love to have stayed for more than two days and will most certainly return.
The property itself was amazing. The main complaint I have involves certain members of the front desk staff and servers for the restaurant. I wouldn’t classify them as rude but there was certainly a lack of hospitality on their part and an absentmindedness in select situations as well. Given its physical location up north on a hill with no other buildings surrounding it in the Finnish Lapland, it would be extremely easy to see new incoming patrons of the hotel arrive with all their luggage especially when the hotel offers a shuttle service from the airport and the main reception area is steps away from the entrance to the hotel. My girlfriend and I were not expecting to check into our room right away as we had arrived early in the morning but as we approached the reception area there were 3 employees just standing looking at us and each other (I suppose to see who would take the initiative to welcome us). Finally after the 2 ladies nudged the man to speak to us we mentioned that we knew it was early and didn’t expect the room to be ready but we were checking in to which the man started shaking his head saying that’s not possible. Again, that’s something that we knew but being so flat out inhospitable was unnecessary. To add insult to injury the same man said that we could leave our luggage suitcases by reception and when the room was ready the staff would bring them to the rooms. This never happened and we needed to walk down a steep slope covered in snow and ice with our bags to get to our rooms located outside and around the main reception building. The employees never mentioned that a shuttle could take us to the center of town for a fraction of the price of paying a cab which we only found out after the fact. Lastly, it took 25-30 minutes to pay for dinner after having asked the Asian gentleman who was our server for the bill.
