A uniquely restored historic building that respects very well the original setting without missing a modern edge.
The Convent is really nice Not the hotel but th city of Salvador is not in best conditions
Beautiful hotel in the old centre of Salvador, with all the comfort you want. Nice outdoour area for lounging, good bar, nice swimming pool, all set in the beautiful garden of the old convent. The dinner at the restaurant was not that special as one should expect regarding the prices they charge for dinner.
Stunning building with stylish interior design. Decent restaurant with a a good maitre d'. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms a little dark.
Very good location in center of Salvador in Pelourinho, close to the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast, specially the juices.
Very nice decorated and clean rooms in a very old but stylish building. The bar downstairs is nice as well.
Loved loved this hotel. It was so beautiful and very artistic. The location is right in the center of old town. This has to be the best hotel in the old town. They paid a lot of attention to detail in the place. It also has a cute cafe and internet. The only negative thing has nothing to do with the hotel but the location. It is very dangerous at night and early morning. There are many drug dealers and prostitutes but they have police walking around all day to protect the tourist.
In the city center, very convenient, very kind personnel
Inside the hotel the facility is attractively decorated, very elegant. The breakfast was delicious with the best coffee of our three week trip around Brazil. It was handy that an internet cafe was in the lobby of the hotel. Our room was small. The staff was not very conversant in English but we were not at all conversant in Portuguese..
The breakfast was fantastic with freshly squeesed fruit juice. We had to ask for eggs though but they were happy to oblidge. The bed and pillows very comfortable and a lovely bathroom with a wonderful shower head. No air-conditioning therefore very hot and noisey as we needed to leave the window open at night and no TV or safe. Also no hanging space for clothes. The reason I would not reccomend the hotel is no air-conditioning otherwise I would reccomend it.
Wonderful personnel, very very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautifully decorated in colonial style, the best we've seen on our 4-week trip across Brazil. Delicious and grand breakfast with self-made jam, many fruits, fresh fruit juices, eggs, delicious bread, etcetera etcetara. (the best breakfast we've had during our trip). Did not like the beggars, drugdealers and obtrusive sales people in the surrounding streets. There's no place for a quiet walk. That's a shame because Pelourinho is just wonderful. During daytime it's fairly save in the squares and streets where the tourists are (lots of police). When the night falls, it becomes very unpleasant and dangerous (less police).
the owner and how he handled things / the breakfast / the location slightly noise area on a saturday night
I liked shopping and eating at the Pelourinho. The elevador Lacerda and Mercado Modelo are all walking distance too. Bus and taxi are a few steps away. There wasn't curtains in our bedroom, and it got sunny pretty early in the day.
The staff was charming and solicitous. The location was perfect for exploring the rich Cultural Heritage of downtown Salvador. There were quite good restaurants nearby. The décor had a lot of local flavor, and a nice touch of Bahia's history. The room was comfortable and well-furnished, though not big. The breakfast was simple, but very good. If you are mainly interested on the beaches, the location might disappoint you. The hotel is also a restaurant, a café and an internet house, so sometimes you cannot find anybody at the reception desk. Two minor inconveniences: the bathroom door did not offer much privacy, and the room lock was slightly misaligned, making it difficult to close.
The room was fab. The balcony overlooked the main square in the old part of Salvador. I would highly recommend this Pousada
location in historic center. great view of the Praca. small and intimate. hepful staff. very noisy--sometimes until 2AM, when Samba show across street was open.
very nice staff - great location in the middle of upper town - very nice and helpfull staff: apart from being very helpful throughout my stay, they contatcted me immediately when they found one of my travel documents and couriered it to my new hotel...
Intimate high quality hotel in a gt location i the old city. Staff, especially Rickardo (excellent English) were very helpful. Good recommndations re eating out. Friendly hotel staff, gt breakfasts served in your room Can be noisey with music outside but this finishes 11-11.30pm
Charming , helpfull staff with good knowledge about the area. the breakfast was fantastisc good! No elevator, beacuse of the old historical building. But its not really any problem , because the staff helped us all the way with our luggage.:-)
The restaurant, the reception and the character of the rooms
The location and ambience of the Hotel Villa Bahia are exceptional. The rooms are large and elegant and one feels as if they are truly living a moment in the past...but with very comfortable ammenities! The staff is multi-lingual and very helpful. I enjoyed the first moment of our stay to the last! Awesome, truly!
The Hotel Villa Bahia is housed in what was originally two adjoining houses one XVII century the other XVIII century. It is beautifully furnished with antiques and antique copies. It is located in the heart of Pelourinho, the historic disrtic of Salvador and a great starting point for explorations of this remarkable neighborhood so rich with cultural treasures. Irecommend it highly.
Superb location. The best breakfasts of our trip. Lovely bedrooms. Very good restaurant. Really, really recommend it. Nothing
Best Hotel in Bahia! Location No 1! Interior Design No 1! Service and Food No 1!
extremely helpful front staff was excellent for recommendations on food, tourism, and local events.....specifically, "Jefferson" was amazing! nothing......loved it all and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the historic part of Salvador
Beautiful antique colonial design, very large room (luxury room), staff very helpful. Wireless Internet didn't work in the room because of some kind of special security protocol on the second floor only. Had to go to reception area to connect with a normal protocol. Internet being very important to me, I had to change hotels, since the hotel staff didn't really understand what to do.
the atmosphere/feeling you get at the hotel - warm bahia style.Nice selection of local furniture/decoration. fyi- the reception staff are French english speaking. Very friendly people . Nice boutique hotel. price premium compared to other hotels
Friendly staff, antique type furnishings, excellent location in the most picturesque part of Salvador, delicious breakfast. Good wifi connection. Occasional loud music from outside, although not fault of hotel. Somewhat dim lights in room.
Very close to old quarter, Pelourinho. Staff very friendly helpful about places of interest and where not to go. Good advice about safety of tourists. Casual eating area with great view of old city, and pleaseant good sized pool.Recent renovations will enhance the reception areas and accommodation. Room we had booked wan't available due to renovations. Staff very apologetic and reduced the booked price. Standard double rooms a little small and air conditioner was noisy.
I was given a room with a balcony and view! Staff really helpful. Maybe more local products for breakfast.
Everything was really good except that the hostel did not offer us the room that we booked. We were downgraded since the hostel double-booked our room. Having said that, we got a discount and the rest of our stay was excellent.
This was a great place to stay in Salvador! It is very close to the Pelourinho, which has busses that run to the rest of the city. I felt very safe here (as safe as one can feel in Salvador), and the staff was able to help us in both English and Portuguese. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was great!
Nice people, clean elegant place near the Pelourhino. Good internet service. 5% discount when paying cash.
everything I loved it, people were fantastic, so friendly. The location is great. Amazing views of the historical center, and still really near by. Yummy breakfast!
great location, good breakfast with fresh fruits and juices. comfortable pool, the manager Glauber Cayres was extremely helpful in english. It is close to the old city which is great, but can be a little noisy...
Very nice hitel, well situated, great for carnaval because close to the attractions but still far enough to get some rest
The manager was very friendly and helpful. The location is good, away from the central bustle and noise of central Pelourinho but near enough to fall part of it. The outside areas of the Pousada are very nicely maintained, with a good sized smimming pool and lawn area. My rook was spotlessly clean, with air conditioning, TV and fridge. A very relaxing place to stay.
Excellent location and quality of staff, very helpful and going out of their way to please guests. My son visited while we were there and he was treated like family! Not really !
Beautiful decoration and ambiance, close to tourist sites, fantastic breakfasts, good size quadruple room, good price for the high quality. We had some mechanical issues with the toilet, but they were immediately resolved. Wifi in our room was weak, but they tried to resolve the issue.
Very nice decoration, excellent service, very friendly management, a boutique hotel like we like -
A wonderful botique hotel in Pelorihno. Comes with an excellent breakfast delivered each morning to your door on a tray. Tuesday nights there is a musical festival on the steps right outside the hotel door - our room overlooked this festival.
charming hotel, friendly hosts, good breakfast, nice restaurants in the neighbourhood rooms are orientated to inner courts with some lack of natural light and privacy (for a small cityhotel acceptable)
The place is a fantastic charming hotel, well situated, in the historic center. The rooms are big and romantic, and the people are really nice and helpful. Breakfast is delicious and has every day another surprise We really enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend this place!
The hotel owners, an extremely friendly Italian couple creates a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast is delicious and has every day another surprise. The location is great and you can easily walk to the center or to the peaceful Santo Antonio. I traveled by myself and certainly recommend the area and the hotel for female single travelers as well as couples. no
I liked both the room, very spacious and cosy, and the warm welcome received upon my arrival. Indeed the location is strategic if you want to visit the city. The only think that I would change is the the bathroom, it was not as big as the room, but for me it was ok.
Very friendly and helpful front desk. Very nice breakfast served to your room. Central location at the heart of old town. Nothing
I really liked the quality of the bed and the fact that breakfast was served at our room. On top of that the breakfast was excellent. I found it disapppinting that after staying there for 5 nights, we could not get a late checkout. All we could get was 1 hour more and we needed max 3. The hotel seemed quite empty so it did not make a lot of sense to us.
A very special hotel, with a great helpfull staff, beautiful interior and rich in details. Absolutely a must for the art-loving visitor.
- Beautiful building, the integrated art studio, and the exceptionally helpful staff that must have at least spent an hour and a half on our several queries
overall the hotel is very well presented and the room was clean and stylish The area and distance to attractions makes this a hotel we would not recommend. The shuttle service to the Pelo was not explained to us, so we had to make our own way back in the rain at our own costs. The staff emphasised that this was not a safe area.
Service. The hotel was placed in a very dangerous zone. That information should be showed to me before closing the deal.
Beautifully restored place with good facilities such as library, bar, restaurant. Very tasteful and classy. Well appointed room with fridge. Nice bathroom. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Superb buffet breakfast with wide choice of tropical fruits, cereals, cakes, bread, juices, yogurts etc. Taxi provided to and from Pelourinho. Very nice Italian restaurant on site. The place is in a dangerous neighbourhood which means you cannot walk around. However, taxi shuttle is provided free of charge.
stylish, friendly, cosy, clean nao
Very nice hotel in a not so nice position. The staff is wonderful and helps you in everything. All the interior, including rooms are so weel decorated. The neighborhood is a sort of scum. The opposite of the hotel. It's a pity.
The breakfast was incredible. Great variety, well presented and friendly kichen staff. The hotel including rooms was very comfortable and furnished with quality furnishings, fabrics..... The internet speed was incredibly slow. Told by computer technican the hotel wouldn´t pay more for higher speed. Not good!
The Staff were very friendly, the room was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. Overall we had a fantastic stay. The only thing we didn`t like was the fact that we couldn`t walk to the historic town... But the hotel knows this and they offer you a free cab ride there and back so it was easy to get around this one small problem.
Personal orientation was good. Needs prepared map for the places that she sends you. We could not find the live music club. The museum of modern art is only open 1-6 p.m. Bring lots of cash. ATMs often don't work. Lovely balconues and view of bay. Quiet. One has to climb up and down a lot of cobblestone hills. Noting good walking shoes. The breakfast buffet could be improved. Needs integral bread and real butter.
The stylish interior arrangements, the view from breakfast room and room 27. Full harbor view from high point of city. Good beds, efficient and silent airco. No real complaints, but not enough furniture in room. Only one cupboard and one chair. All suitcases on the floor.
Excellent location in historical center and not far from elevator to low level of city. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast Free wi-fi while my stay. romantic colonial interiors The room was tiny. Top of the room's door is glassy so when somebody goes in corridor at night time and lights turn on automatically it slightly disturb sleeping ...
The hotel is at a perfect location, Its on the border of Pelourinho (~400m walk and safe at night)and Centro. Its walking distance to the Mercado Modelo (200m). Perfect location, very clean rooms, amazing view from the room where we stayed (Loft 1) and good staff. Would highly recommend this hotel. None.
The Inn Pousada Barroco na Bahia is clean, very nice, cheap hotel in central position near the famous Pelourinho with personel service.
I wasn't aware that this accommodation was a hostel until we arrived. However, it was quite amazing. The accommodation was fantastic and was more like a mini suite. The only problem we had was the fact that there wasn't a lift which made it difficult to bring our luggage upstairs. Once inside, one had privacy, peace and quiet, despite any activity going on outside. The fact that the accommodation was in the heart of Salvador was also advantageous. We were walking distance from all the museums and churches. Staff too were freinldy and helpful, especially Bruno.Great place. Would definitely recommend.
Staff was friendly and the room was clean and quiet. The building (external area) is beautiful. This "hotel" (It's actually more of a bed and breakfast with private bathroom) is near Pelourinho but the location is dodgy. It was particularly scary walking around the area at night. Also we didn't really fancy the breakfast and on my birthday the staff failed to inform me that my sister had called. Next time I go to Salvador I will avoid this place - I can definitely make better use of my money.
The attention was personal, they made me feel at home. Hans and his staff were vere supportive and kind. The hotel is very well located, near Pellouriño (where the action is) but far enought to be quite when you want to rest. The place is very beautifull, the breakfast is excellent, I recommenend it specially for artist and intellectuals. I would prefer if there had telephone facilities and more written information about the city, tours, etc.
This pousada has a rather unique position, an outpost of German musical tradition housed in several buildings, one of which has been very nicely restored to close to original condition -- located near the tourist centers but in a real working-class neighborhood. We enjoyed slowly getting to know the Saude neighborhood as an antidote to Pelourinho on the next hill over.
Very efficiently run establishment. Really nice accommodation, especially the house where we had breakfast. Free internet. The rooms in the main house are very nice. Very obliging staff helping with cash withdrawal at safe atm. Just ask. The mattress was a bit uncomfortable. We had problems with the water temperature. We had cool showers for a couple of days. This was in the rooms where the German embassy is.
The staff (but not the owner) were exceptionally kind. This was a terrible hotel. It was not in Pelourinho as advertised--- you had to walk 5 minutes to get to a lit square, then all of the way down a steep hill, then all the way up a steep, urine soaked alley to get up to Pelourinho. I would never walk to or from Pelourinho at night from that location and would have never booked the hotel if I had known that it was there. The room had ants, spiders and other insects all over it. Something bit my ankle while I was sleeping and my entire ankle is still swollen (two people asked if I had sprained it, as the bite and swelling are so large). My room was not at all as pictured: super cheap foam mattress and super cheap furniture that made it look worse than a motel. The toilet rarely worked.
Helpful tips for first time visitors. Big patio to sit outside. you pay to much for what you get. The location is not really good (to get back at night a taxi is needed), and a lot of the rooms are small and sticky with almost no light. For 20% less the price would be ok compared to Pousadas located inside Pelerinho.
The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Nobody speaks english there.
