Vera is a historic town and popular holiday destination in southeastern Spain. Situated on the Almeria Coast, Vera lies between the Alhamilla and Cabrera mountain ranges which overlook the Mediterranean. Vera is lined with cobblestone streets, enchanting historical landmarks and long, sandy beaches.
When to take Vera holidays
Due to its dry, arid location, the weather in Vera is near perfect all year round with plenty of sunshine and very little rainfall. To catch the hottest summer months, an ideal time to book Vera holidays would be between June and September when temperatures range between 28-30 degrees Celsius. Vera can be reached via airports in Alicante or Malaga. Alicante is a slightly closer option, with a transit time of two hours by bus, taxi or car. Vera is in the Standard European Time Zone.
Vera holidays: What to see and do
The main beach, named Vera Playa, is famous for being a naturist zone. Visitors to Vera should, however, remember that nudity is permitted but not required. The Playa de Puerto Rey and El Playazo beaches are equipped with facilities such as showers, sun bed rentals and 'Chiringuitos' selling snacks and refreshments. Vera has a number of indoor and outdoor swimming pools plus a large water park named Aquapark. Windsurfing, snorkelling and parasailing are just a few of the popular watersports available on Vera holidays.
In the centre of Vera, visitors can step back in time to explore architecture of the renaissance era. At the Plaza Major (main square) there are several beautiful 16th century churches including the Convent de Nuestra Señora de la Victoria and the Iglesia de la Encarnación. In this area visitors will encounter a wide selection of bars, restaurants and cafés offering traditional Spanish cuisine, fresh seafood and delicious tapas. On Saturdays a large street market takes place selling handicrafts, local produce and souvenirs.
