Nerja is one of the resort towns of the Costa Del Sol in the south of Spain. It is on the eastern seashore of the Costa Del Sol, flanked by a dramatic mountain range and dotted with fine beaches and creeks.
Nerja is located below the main coast road between Malaga and Almeria, with the nearest airport being in Malaga. The town has a port which serves cruise ships from North Africa, and to the east of Nerja is Almeria which also includes a seaport. There are no direct rail links to Nerja. The town has a Mediterranean climate with an abundance of sunshine during the summer.
Known as the jewel of the Costa Del Sol, Nerja is a great destination for a beach holiday. Overall, Nerja has ten beaches on its coastline. The largest beach is Playa Burriana which includes both sand and pebbles. At the Playa Burriana visitors can hire umbrellas, sunbeds and pedalos. The beach offers various water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking and scuba diving. Other beaches to visit during your Nerja holidays are the Blue Flag Playa Torrecilla, Playa el Salón, Playa Carabeo and Playa Calahonda.
Visitors flock to the Balcony of Europe during their Nerja holidays. This is a reconstructed promenade built on a towering cliff in the town and gives some fantastic views of the Nerja coast. The Cueva de Nerja caves are about 1.8 miles away from the town and include the longest known stalactite. Another popular attraction in Nerja is the Rio Chillar Waterfall. For a special experience, take a dip in the small pool at the Rio Chillar Waterfall's base.
