Jersey City, the second largest city in the state of New Jersey, lies on the Hudson river across from lower Manhattan. Formerly, an industrial town and a railroad hub, Jersey City was a popular destination for immigrants and still has a very ethnically diverse population today. Its large downtown and modern waterfront are filled with towering condos, hotels, office buildings and brownstone homes. Jersey City's growing financial district is often referred to as ""Wall Street West.""
Jersey City has a humid mesothermal climate and experiences four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and summers are humid and can reach 30°C. The best time for Jersey City holidays is in the late spring through to early fall, specifically May to September. Newark Liberty International Airport is closest to Jersey City but one can also fly into LaGuardia or JFK International Airport, both in Queens. Within the city travel by bus or light rail. Ferries and 24-hour trains connect the city to lower Manhattan. Jersey City is in the Eastern timezone (GMT-5:00.)
Located on the waterfront, Liberty State Park provides unparalleled views of New York City. This large, urban park is home to the historic Central Railroad Terminal and an interactive science museum, the Liberty Science Center. From here the visitor can catch a ferry to the Statue of Liberty (on Liberty Island) and Ellis Island, the famous immigration station that operated from 1892 to 1954. These islands are jointly managed by New York City and Jersey City. Other notable landmarks on Jersey City holidays include the Colgate Clock and Loew's Jersey Theatre. This fifteen metre diameter clock weighs nearly a thousand Kilos, was erected in 1924 and is one of the largest in the world. Loew's Jersey Theatre is a movie theatre with an intricate and detailed interior which also presents concerts and other events.
