Naturally beautiful, artsy, foodie-centric, and delightfully progressive, this town is a top tourist destination in the South for good reason. It’s easily one of my favourite places to visit in the U.S. If you’re planning a trip to this idyllic mountain retreat, you’ll undoubtedly want to familiarise yourself with the finest local hotels. The boutique hotel scene is alive and well here, with several independent properties with trendy amenities, ranging from custom art installations to live music sessions and rooftop bars. And, of course, as befits a town with such a (deservedly) acclaimed culinary reputation, many of the best hotels in Asheville are home to iconic local restaurants showcasing a delicious mix of Appalachian, Southern, and European flavours. Here are my top picks for your next Asheville trip.

Topping the list of the best hotels in Asheville, the Kimpton Hotel Arras boasts unique amenities, top-notch hospitality, and chic accommodations. Each of the 128 guest rooms and suites features original artwork from local artists and elegant wood and marble accents, in addition to thoughtful touches like yoga mats, upscale bath toiletries, and in-room massages.

Be sure to book a room with floor-to-ceiling views of the Blue Ridge Mountains; there’s no better respite after a day of exploring. And when dinnertime rolls around, settle down for some delectable Mediterranean fare at Bargello.

Don’t leave without trying one of the house-made pasta dishes, which range from short rib rigatoni to orecchiette alla cioppino. When it comes to the best hotels in Asheville, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more welcoming, stylish, or well-equipped spot than the Kimpton Hotel Arras.

Sprawl out in style at The Restoration Asheville, widely regarded as one of the best hotels in Asheville. The spacious suites here are bathed in natural light, with design details that reflect the town’s history and all the creature comforts of home.

The hotel has four on-site spaces for dining or grabbing drinks, including a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the city skyline. The botanical-inspired menu includes craft cocktails, a stellar wine list, and tasty shareable snacks like winter squash hummus and pork belly steam buns.

The other communal spaces include a library stocked with an eclectic mix of books and a coffee bar with fresh juice, gourmet coffee, and pastries. Extra tip: you can pick up the Urban Trail right outside the hotel’s doors, which provides a great tour of the city.

The Windsor Boutique Hotel has French-style elegance in spades. This intimate, impeccably designed property is brimming with art and decor sourced from Paris. Each of the luxury suites (there are just 14 of them) is individually decorated, and all offer ample space to relax and unwind.

With a private bedroom, washer/dryer, bathroom, living room, and fully-equipped kitchen, I found everything I was looking for. Buttery-soft Sferra bedding and bath linens will make you feel like royalty, and high-tech amenities provide just the right amount of modernity.

The upscale touches don’t stop there. This is also one of the top picks for its on-site spa, which uses plant-based C&Co. products. Meanwhile, the art gallery/wine bar showcases the work of acclaimed photographer Benjamin Wells – peruse his pieces while enjoying the wine and chocolate truffle bar.

The hotel also offers many complimentary amenities, like board games, yoga mats, locally-roasted coffee, and newspapers.

The Omni Grove Park Inn – Asheville really is something special. From the building’s grand Arts-and-Crafts style to the wonderful on-site amenities that include towering fireplaces, a subterranean spa, and an 18-hole golf course, it's a true gem.

The property sits right at the top of Sunset Mountain and is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making this one of the best hotels in Asheville for nature lovers. The historic property (which was opened in 1913 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973) has all the amenities you can think of – and then some.

Guests have access to a Donal Ross-designed championship golf course and a state-of-the-art spa, as well as several restaurants and bars. Watching the sun set over the mountains from the outdoor terrace at Edison bar is one of my fondest memories of Asheville.

I’m always thrilled when a trip to Asheville involves staying at the Inn on Biltmore Estate. And it would seem I’m not the only one – locals and tourists alike regard this as one of the best hotels in Asheville. There are many reasons to love this incredible hotel.

The Inn doubles as the town’s most popular tourist destination, a historic estate that was once a country retreat for George Vanderbilt and his family. The grounds are jaw-droppingly beautiful, and the property has been lovingly restored, backdropped by showstopping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

All the guest rooms and suites here are outfitted with sumptuous bedding and top-of-the-line amenities, and you can take advantage of the heated pool and hot tub, the award-winning winery, a full-scale spa, and fine dining at The Dining Room. This is undoubtedly one of the top luxury hotels in Asheville.

The Foundry is considered one of the best hotels in Asheville for its excellent location, convenient amenities, and noteworthy dining. The hotel is situated in the Block neighbourhood, just a few minutes from all the best that downtown Asheville has to offer.

Luxury amenities range from a sleek fitness centre to a complimentary Tesla car service, and rooms are gorgeously decorated with ornate tiles, dark wood accents, and upholstered headboards. But it’s the Foundry’s on-site eatery, Benne on Eagle, that sets this hotel apart.

This outstanding restaurant serves authentic Appalachian soul food and a fantastic selection of wines and craft cocktails. You can’t go wrong with anything on the brunch menu, but the shrimp and grits are especially tasty. Whether you come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, a meal at Benne on Eagle is guaranteed to be one for the books.

If it’s pure luxury you’re after, the Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville Autograph Collection is a great pick. The staff here are warm and attentive, providing you with suggestions and help; the rooms are sleekly furnished; and the Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah National Forest are right outside your door.

Whether you spend your day hiking or soaking up the city sights, this hotel provides a wonderful refuge for travellers of all types. Similar in style to a rustic hunting lodge, I felt like I’d been transported to another time period there.

You can indulge in a signature treatment at the Poseidon Spa, enjoy fine dining at Red Stag Grill, and visit an on-site gallery full of works from both regional and international artists. Pamper yourself with a stay at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville Autograph Collection, one of the top-rated hotels in Asheville.

The Cambria Hotel Downtown Asheville is one of the best hotels in Asheville, beloved for its urban charms and extremely central location. You’ll be well-situated for soaking up the sights and sounds of the city, though you may find it hard to leave this chic, beautifully-designed space.

At Hemingway’s Cuba Restaurant and Rooftop Bar, enjoy a Cuban Daquiri and ceviche while taking in the sunset from the fourth-floor terrace. Fit in a workout at the fully-equipped fitness centre, with its cutting-edge range of equipment, or make use of the exceptionally outfitted event spaces for social gatherings.

Guest rooms offer the ideal mix of comfort, convenience, and style, with crisp linens, premium bath products, Bluetooth mirrors, and private terraces. One of my top choices in Asheville for location, the views of the city are tough to beat.

Set in the middle of downtown (next to Pack Square), the AC Hotel Asheville Downtown is within walking distance of all the action, from the iconic Biltmore to the Basilica of Saint Lawrence.

I remember hiking on one of the many scenic trails nearby, and then making time for a meal at culinary destinations like Posana, Old Europe Pastries, and other local establishments the city is so well-known for.

If you are not up to outdoor action, simply hang out at the hotel’s rooftop bar and tapas eatery, Capella on 9, where the hand-crafted cocktails are always flowing, and the mountain views are majestic.

There’s a comfy, well-appointed selection of rooms here, all of which are decorated with local art and decked out with modern amenities. For the urbanite traveller, the AC Hotel Asheville Downtown is hands down one of the best hotels in Asheville.

The Haywood Park Hotel Ascend Hotel Collection is known for being one of the best hotels in Asheville for budget travelelrs. Located in the former Bon Marche department store downtown, this well-restored hotel comes with a relatively affordable price tag without skimping on must-have amenities.

Rooms are crafted from the former clothing departments and are reliably immaculate, with Keurig coffee makers, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, hot tubs, mini fridges, and other deluxe features. What I really like in the Haywood Park Hotel Ascend Hotel Collection is the fact that it offers several packages and special offers.

From multi-night discounts to romance packages complete with complimentary valet parking, champagne, flowers, and chocolates, I always find something of interest. Plus, thanks to its first-class location, you’ll enjoy easy access to local landmarks, attractions, and restaurants during your stay.
