In general our rental experience in Hawaii was fine. Pick up was crazy due to the amount of customers and not enough rental agents. However, the agents themselves were very pleasant & professional, despite several disgruntled customers. Our rental was a brand new model, was clean and waiting for us after 90 minutes in line. I always thought Hertz had higher standards than other rental car agencies…. Rented a car in Kona Hawaii. I was given a 2019 car with over 33,000 miles. Disappointing. And what was even worst? The safety inspection for this car had expired 11/21. I rented the car in December… so, I was driving illegally until I was able to go back to the airport and switch cars. The agents response? “Oh. That must have been an oversight. You didn’t get stopped, did you?” I was lucky and had not been stopped by the police, but I can say one thing…. No more Hertz rentals.Reviewed 24 Dec 2021

They were overwhelmed upon arrival, took well over an hour to get car. Car was cleaned in a rush, was in poor condition. Had confirmed an SUV but left with a minivan, no telling how long we would have waited for a proper car. Sales agent was deceitful in tactics to up-sell which I expect but selling pre-paid fuel when I specifically asked not to be was frustrating. Pros:The pick up from the airport was great and especially the help with our luggage and referrals to a few places to eat too.Cons:The drive back to the airport with an older lady was surprising to my girlfriend and myself and even to another couple that road with us. This is because the lady drove the pick up van over to us opened the door an said she could not help us with our luggage or lift anything. Now why would a company let this employee drive a van and not be able to assist customers? She needs to have a different job such as working in an office where her help is not expected to help travelers lift their luggage. Never before has anyone said this. Then on the way from the rental car to the airport she would sing and say sing songy things to get a reaction from us. She needs professional assistance to know travelers needs. This happened when dropping off my car around 10:30am ish. The rest of the contact with the arrival with our car was professional and so was the driver that took us from the airport to car pick up.Reviewed 30 May 2021
