10.0 Excellent
Pros: Disabled room was excellent.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely pool and lovely rooms.
7.9 Good
Pros: Comfortable and warm room.Staff were very good, helpful and friendly.
Cons: Restaurant a bit soulless , could do with an update
6.0 Good
Pros: Located not far from the dual carriageway and near a service station - that's about the only place nearby to grab some food (though I think there's a pub on the road). Staff friendly enough without being overly accommodating.
Cons: Not good for a quiet night's sleep. Sound insulation (room doors) not the best. Quiet rooms on the ground floor have people walking through at early hours of the morning and chatting (generally staff).
5.0 Okay
Pros: Upon entering the hotel, the lobby looked very nice. The spa was lovely and I had a lovely and relaxing treatment. I would highly recommend having a treatment done here.
Cons: The room was outdated and unclean. The window area had lots of marks and dust. It felt like no one has stayed in this room for quite some time. The cups were not replaced before I had checked in, as they had a lot of dirt and bits of leaves inside. Was utterly shocked about this.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent experience and food the sauna is amazing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming reception with helpful and friendly staff. Good sized rooms. Very good value for money
Cons: Nothing
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff very helpful.
Cons: I was disgusted to learn I had to pay £5.00 for the privilege of parking my car in order to stay overnight in the hotel. It’s in the middle of nowhere so why! It is totally disgraceful and wasn’t mentioned anywhere when I booked on line .
1.0 Poor
Pros: Easy to get too and parking facilities were good.
Cons: When we arrived it was busy with only one member welcoming people and booking them in, we had to wait with heavy bags and as thre was a party in the hotel all the seats were taken in the waiting room. When we got to our room it was freezing when we put on the heating there was a constant clicking. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and noisy. The shower was also broken. When we mentioned this to the staff there was nothing they could do as there wasnt enough staff. We have stayed in many hotels and due to it being New Year thought this would be a nice option above cheaper options, however for less price we could have stayed at a Premier Inn which in experience is better quality then the Double Tree. The rooms were very outdated.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant , Breakfast In Bed Is A Must
Cons: Having to leave
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing service. Staff went out of their way to make me and my family welcome. Will definitely be back!
7.5 Good
Cons: Room was cold due to fairly poor air-con and thin Summer quilt. It was also noisy underneath us - every hour there was a banging noise that woke us up. Room was otherwise fine, and the staff were really friendly. We were there on a Monday evening so couldn't select from the a la carte menu. The choice was fairly limited and my burger was not one of the best I've ever tasted, I'm sorry to say. Wine selection is extensive and expensive. There needs to be a cheaper option that is in line with someone who has burger and fries for their evening meal! In short, it is a lovely looking hotel in a nice location and with very friendly staff, but it offers relatively poor value for money. The deluxe bedroom really isn't deluxe at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, the facility and staff were amazing! I booked an overnight stay for my partner's birthday and the small details they added in the room, and for dinner in that evening, made the stay just that bit more special. Every staff member made a real effort and went out of their way to accommodate any needs. Thank you Judith and the team for making our stay comfortable and welcoming.
Cons: There isn't anything I didn't like.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Overall excellent stay with a good service. The spa facilities are lovely.
Cons: Very slow service at breakfast waiting over 30 minutes for a coffee and having to chase twice and with drinks at dinner in the evening.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very attentive staff, amazing hospitality
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely surroundings and excellent bedroom Sunday lunch was lovely
Cons: Breakfast was a big letdown so slow had eaten breakfast before toast and coffee arrived not enough orange juice for everyone no one cleared tables or plates could go on and on but it was a lovely restaurant

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing and swimming pool was lovely a little cold but we enjoyed it
Cons: Needs a fridge in every room
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms are of decent size, comfy bed, helpful staff and room service was really good. The spa is good a little small but the treatments were excellent I had the body scrub and head/neck/shoulder massage - so relaxing thank you.
Cons: I would have given the hotel full marks but the steam room wasnt working properly which was a let down as i came to use the spa! Rest was lovely thank you.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and clean, very friendly staff great location
Cons: The drinks are crazy expensive you wouldn't pay those prices in London!
6.7 Good
Pros: The facilities were great and the room was big and the bed was really comfortable.
Cons: The flush in the bathroom did not work and after complaining to reception they said they fixed it but it still didn’t work. Also the pillow smelled like they had been used and not changed from the previous occupants.

7.0 Good
Pros: Location was good; handy for Newbury. Grounds were lovely and the building had a nice character. Friendly reception staff.
Cons: Building furnishings were a little 'tired'. For the family room we didn't have sufficient cups, pillows, or towels initially laid out. Breakfast was good but slow to restock the buffet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The perfect balance of country grandeur with a friendly relaxed vibe. The hotel reception areas were just what I was after, places to lounge comfortably with friends, enjoying a drink in pleasent surrounds.
Cons: Nothing, it was all good

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location was great. I had worked in New bury some 40 years ago and the Chequers had a good name then. it started with the foyer and the restaurant which was excellent then came to rooms. we were allocated room 107 but over looking a flatroof and could see a toilet roll on there we were put off and asked for another room and we had 110 but it was dirty/. a spider was in the corner of the room and i killed and removed it. The facilities were good but you coulkdnt get away from the dirty bedroom.
Cons: As above
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is only a short walk to the town centre so very accessible to local amenities.
Cons: £5 parking charge per night on top of room fee.
6.5 Good
Pros: Nice authentic British hotel in great location
Cons: There was no air condition!!! It was hot.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Ideal location Handyman who came to fix lights was friendly and efficient.
Cons: £5 charge for car park - only notified of this on arrival No lift. Hard with luggage to second floor No staff around to help Receptionist not interested Lights did not work in room. Back down and told someone will check them Advised I wasn’t too happy with waiting for someone to come to room. No interest, just told “he won’t be long”. Iron in room did not work. Again back to reception and another supplied Taps in bathroom covered in limescale Old lump of stuff on carpet by skirting. TV kept losing its channels
4.6 Okay
Pros: Proximity to Newbury town centre. That said there is a new Premier Inn a few hundred yards away
Cons: Mediocre room. Booked a deluxe garden view but got allocated a room with a view of a flat roof and a discarded toilet roll on it. Staff curt and rude at times. Parking is free for function guest but £5 for residents. Music in public areas is loud 80’s which the bass of which can be heard in the rooms.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely bed. Slept brilliantly. And the hot tub added a nice bit of relaxation
Cons: Room could have been a little tidier. Bit dusty and the coffee machine had stale water sat in it. Other than that can't fault the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love the location, the hot tub is main appeal, all staff very friendly, bed was comfy, breakfast was delicious.
Cons: The room needed some TLC - plug socket hanging off, lamp shade on side table didn’t sit on the lamp right ( very wobbly) We noticed the bathroom needed the most TLC, rusty pipes on shower, rusty taps on the bath, rusty shower head, bath needs new sealer (mould spots), water stains in the bath, the sink leaked underneath, the toilet made a constant noise, the window in the bathroom didn’t shut properly, the outside patio needs a good spray down

5.8 Okay
Pros: Beautiful drive in to the hotel. Which is clean and the bed was comfortable. I only spoke to reception staff who seemed very nice.
Cons: I was given a room on the 3rd floor, no lift. No newspapers available, no room service. The room was extremely dated, thin carpet, creaking floor. The bathroom was a joke. So outdated, shower wasn’t working properly, missing a control. Toilet was a sani flo that made horrendous noises. The main problem were walls so thin that I could hear literally everything, and I mean everything , going on next door!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good for overnight stay, lakeside rooms ideal after work day and wanting something to eat and go to bed. Good room service from bar menu and good value breakfast compared to some hotels.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Landscape was fantastic, bed and staff excellent. Also food and pastries were very good! I enjoyed my stay and will come back soon
Cons: The toilets at the ground floor next to the meeting rooms need updating urgently! Carpets in the toilet do not help much!

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent and the room was very comfortable.
Cons: The bathroom was very basic, and the shower curtain was a bit short over the bath.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A real surprise! Just a couple of miles off M4, a very large 1700’s restored coaching inn with large bars and restaurant, rooms in the main building but also 34 (I think) one and two storey cottages based on period cottages, low ceilings etc. Almost a small village. Sensible menus. Excellent Full English. Huge parking areas Reception and waiting staff very rapid, helpful and humorous.
Cons: Only that guest cottages seemed to be intermingled with staff cottages. Bikes parked outside etc Bit of a rude awakening before 8am when man and woman had a very loud shouting match. I’m sure this is unusual Also 9am breakfast cut off is a bit early these days for those guests not rushing off to work.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Efficiency & friendliness.
9.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely pub with excellent food and cosy bedrooms Welcoming and friendly (especially Charlotte) Plenty of parking
Cons: Couldn't turn the radiators down or off in the bedroom at night and it was far too hot which meant we didn't sleep well The continental breakfast needs some attention - no yoghurt and fruit way past its best
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great pub. Great decor and cosy fires. Good food and perfect for visiting Highclere castle.
Cons: Happy with everything.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Quaint looking
Cons: The room and corridor of our accommodation was noticeably cold and at this time of year didn’t make us feel like were staying at a cosy quaint cottage at all, however old the building is heating is essential for paying guests we would of thought. Unfortunately we weren’t made to feel like welcomed guests and to this we are quite saddened because it makes your stay so much more enjoyable and special to the point you want to come home and tell your family and friends how inviting it was, so shame that we won’t be doing that!!!! but we didn’t let this ruin our Christmas jolly and hope anyone else staying here gets a better vibe.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Top notch service, the quality of the food was amazing, and the unique character of property. Most of all the staff were incredible.
Cons: Bedroom was cold, but on a positive note the manager responded immediately and found a stand-alone blow heater for us.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quaint little inn, great atmosphere, friendly staff
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm friendly atmosphere, good service, met our requirements. Furnishings and decor well thought out and some very nice touches.
Cons: Low toilet. Low beams and sloping ceilings, although have to accept it is an old character building.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were exceptionally friendly and the property was quirky and quaint. Loved the log fires they really made the place homely. I will certainly recommend the pheasant to my friends.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good. The layout and décor and atmosphere were excellent. Comfortable bedroom ..just one comment on the bathroom as men have to bend to utilise the WC or aim from a distance!
Cons: Just the noise from the roadside traffic, our room was changed from the booking.... for better or worse....I cannot say..

4.0 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast.
Cons: No advance Warning that there was no food that weekend. Mouldy shower. Noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really friendly and efficient. The TV had lots of channels. The wardrobe had a space heater but the room was warm enough without needing to use it even though it was mid December.
Cons: We found a soft spot on the bathroom floor, which seemed to be caused by water from the shower. This made us concerned that we might damage the floor further, so we tried to avoid the spot.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was cancelled a day before we arrived as owners went away for weekend Room was cosy and warm and quintasentially Olde English
Cons: No Breakfast ...but hey ho...owners need a break after Xmas I guess
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Expected a nice country pub as per advert instead we got a disco and swearing when we asked why we weren't told about the party before arriving ( an email would of been nice as the party must of been booked in advance ) we were told well you didn't phone us ? Didn't know we had too as we booked what we thought was being advertised. asked about food on arrival to be told no food available as they were having a party , so had to go out and find food elsewhere thankfully found The Star just down the road and the food and staff were great . Room was shabby with not only someone else's hair but other hair not from the head on the bed ! Pillows were stained nowhere to hang your coat which were wet very cramped in the room, bathroom had stained and mouldy walls light fittings not secured to ceiling properly and the shower could do with a deep clean and mould removed and the floor wasn't clean .Our family room was directly above the bar so not only did we have to put up with the very loud music but also the swearing from customers as you Could hear every word it was like they were in the room with you . The banging actually made the floor and furniture vibrate and although the band stopped at 11pm the noise , swearing and running up and down the stairs continued till 1am not ideal when you have been up since 4am and all you want is sleep . Had to ask for more tea and milk which they gave us, had a front door key which was pointless as the front door was left open so security wasn't the best as accomodation directly up the stairs and anyone could just walk in off the street. When asked about what time breakfast was were told 9am which was too late so although paid for we didn't have, when leaving at 7:30am no one was up and no where to leave the key so had to leave it in the room with the door on the snip.
4.0 Okay
Cons: The rooms was very very small. Our heads touched one wall and our feet came close to touched the other wall. There was no space to lay out our suitcases but on the bed. Beds were old, thin and uncomfortable. Not a good night sleep for travelers who need sleep.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff
Cons: N/a
4.0 Okay
Pros: The George and Horn was situated in a pretty village. The staff were friendly. The bedroom was clean.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful best stay ever perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an excellent B&B. It was perfect for what was just a one-night stopover, exactly half-way between home and final destination, close to A34 and M4, but no road noise; in fact it was very peaceful at night. I slept very well. The hosts were very welcoming but unobtrusive, and breakfast was delicious. I really enjoyed the company of the other guests - a cheerful family of four adults from Canada - at the large shared breakfast table. The building was an old farm house, extensively modernised. It has a very large, interesting and well-kept garden, also a heated outdoor swimming pool (although I didn't try it - early September/not warm enough, and I had to be on my way). All in all, highly recommended!
Cons: Nothing could have been better. It was fab!
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice gardens, room was nicely appointed in typical English style, friendly dogs.
Cons: Room was not clean, dogs walk around in kitchen, owners a bit awkward. Not worth the price.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location was very convenient as only a short drive to the wedding I was attending, grounds of B & B were lovely, although near to a main road I couldn't hear the traffic. The breakfast was really nice.
Cons: Shower bracket didn't work properly and the shower water was very forceful and there didn't appear to be anyway to reduce the flow. Otherwise the accommodation was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very friendly and it was a bit like staying with family. Dogs barking etc. Home made jam and altogether a lovely experience. Remarkable garden with bananas growing on a tree...
Cons: Nothing.. Great to meet the old gardener..
5.8 Okay
Cons: Hmmm - wasn’t great. Just a old room in someone’s house. Had to eat around a table with the owners and other people staying there which I found awkward. Plus small talk at 7am isn’t really my thing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful location with a big garden. Clean, comfortable, tasty, although not everything was perfect, but that belonged to the charm of the place. Communal breakfast. Very, very kind owners. Very large and clean bed.
Cons: Bathroom not en-suite, but did not matter, as we had almost the whole part of the floor for us. No restaurant at the site, but great pubs nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Gardens were extremely beautiful and the pool a bonus

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely setting in a country pub. Clean and well equipped bedroom. Extremely good bed and pillows. Very cosy!
Cons: Would have preferred a ground garden room. Shower cubicle was a touch small. Would prefer breakfast cost to be in with the cost of B&B.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The bar during the evening was very convivial and the service good. Dinner was good, but lacked refinement.
Cons: Breakfast was fine, but the waiter who was very helpful could have cut a smarter image. The room was satisfactory but is in need of being refreshed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient location. Great restaurant, bar, and beer garden. Updated bathroom and overall very clean. Pleasant staff--good wifi.
Cons: Bedroom was really small. We only spent the night and left early in AM so not an issue, really, but a longer stay would be tough.
6.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast basic but well cooked. Beds comfortable and larger room was appreciated. Staff informal but helpful.
Cons: Noisy at night over the weekend, no places for suitcases or drawers for clothes so a longer stay uncomfortable. The disabled bathroom inconvenient, mirror not in the right place and limited surfaces to put toiletries.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely and friendly, great staff, good food.
Cons: Paying extra for breakfast, especially the charge for cereal! A few tweaks needed in the room to correct some wear and tear (wobbly arm chair, broken light, droopy shower head, no hair dryer).
7.0 Good
Pros: Comfortable room and very comfortable bed. Good location for Harwell Tech Park.
Cons: The tv was particularly small and didn't work. There was only one lock on the door which could not be deadlocked when the room was occupied to prevent entry from others with an additional key. A bolt on the inside of the door would aid this, given the room door went straight out into the courtyard of the pub.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I received a warm welcome. My room was comfortable and spacious, with a very generously proportioned bathroom. I had a good dinner, after a long drive from the Dorset coast, by the fire in the bar.
Cons: Everything was absolutely fine.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a good English breakfast plus a choice of cereals, Tea & Coffee, Fruit Juice.
7.0 Good
Pros: Very good wifi signal and speed in the room. Breakfast served from 07:00 which works better for me on a work trip - many other places I've stayed don't serve until 07:30. The selection of continental options was good, and the cooked breakfast was very good. Good selection of beers on tap available at the bar. The room I was in was adjacent to the rear car park, on the opposite side of the building to the main road, so there was minimal external noise.
Cons: The single room I stayed in seemed to be a converted external cabin. Just about enough room for what was needed but not very much cat-swinging could be done! Shower was OK-to-good. Not much in the way of extra creature comforts in the room but not an awful lot could be expected for the quite reasonable price. On the evening I stayed there was no food being served, which was quite disappointing, so I had to venture out into the town. Plenty of eating options in Newbury, but would have preferred to have gotten a meal on-site.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Warm and cozy stable room. Excellent breakfast. Warm and friendly hosts.
9.0 Excellent
Cons: Hot water first thing in morning slow
1.0 Poor
Cons: This was the second year running we had booked this place on our way to Portsmouth and both years they have cancelled on us. This year it was the day before we were due to arrive totally unacceptable we will not be booking this place again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great room, close to town centre, friendly staff and great breakfast.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We felt well taken care of and the meals were delicious. Very kind and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. The rooms were well appointed and one of them was just plain fun. Round room with wooden beams and thatched roof. Comfortable and clean. We highly recommend staying at this property/hotel.

Pros: Simple but perfect for my needs....immaculately clean and lovely pub ....b&b is a separate newer building across the courtyard from the pub
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very good, the staff friendly and efficient. This is a pub with rooms - ours was in an outside building - the room was light and well heated. The bar and restaurant are dog friendly.
Cons: Nothing negative to report about this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a true gem of a property. The pub is a real local and has a friendly atmosphere. The layout is really nice, from sitting in the bar area , to sitting in a quiet area. Beer is first class. The owners are warm and welcoming and clearly have worked hard to make it what it is. Staff are very friendly. Food is tasty and pried well. The bedroom, well I thought it had just been decorated as it was spotless. Not the case.....just high standards.
Cons: Unusual for me but I can't think of much. The only thing that would have made it better was a longer stay!!

Cons: Breakfast was a big letdown so slow had eaten breakfast before toast and coffee arrived not enough orange juice for everyone no one cleared tables or plates could go on and on but it was a lovely restaurant
