Pros: Staff was quick to resolve any problems.
Cons: Single room was double booked. Unable to use Bike Shed: locked. Needed to leave Bike outdoors not secured to railings etc
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is great - it's a short walk into the center of town and to the bus station.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The staff were very lovely. Some very lovely guests too. Many of whom were in the same state of shock as I at the place! Sorry! Love YHA but this hostel is desperately in need of TLC and a little bit of personality. Great value but take extra blankets. Parking.
Cons: No heating on the night we stayed No warning that hot water takes forever to warm up Uncomfortable bed - springs poking us! Room smelt like men’s urinal plus detoll to cover it up! Broken toilets - some very malodorous No toilet roll/soap One of those places where you don’t want to touch door handles or walk barefoot!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff are nice and very helpful. I love their huge kitchen. There are so many kitchenware for the guests and large space for storage. Of course, the hostel is very clean. They have two washing machines and two dryers. The guests can use them between 1700-0800 because the laundry room is far away from the rooms!
Cons: I stayed 5 nights in this hostel. The location is not bad but you have to walk from the tourist office or Tesco. I suggest you can take off the bus at Tesco and buy some food before going back the hostel. Because of the weather, there was some problem of WiFi signals. Although there are some disadvantage, I still love this place. :-D
6.3 Good
Pros: Clean and tidy,
Cons: Was very hard to find and staff were not answering calls... bit were apologetic when I eventually arrived
7.5 Good
Pros: Absolutely good price for its value. Really nice staff! Good location for exploring the city and island. Very quiet and warm. I would come again!
Cons: very old carpets! no breakfast available because it was out of season.
7.9 Good
Pros: I have booked a 14 bed room but when I came it was 2 bed room, witch was great. Bed was very comfortable and clean. Room was also very clean.
Cons: I sent two messages through booking and one by email, no one replied. I had urgent question because check in was until 22 and I came at 23:50. Nobody was there but I have found an envelope with my name on it. It would just be nicer if I had some info before arriving :)

The Kirkwall Hotel - Kirkwall - Bedroom
5
7.8 Good (790 reviews)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Staff are fabulous. Chatty and helpful, nothing was too much bother. Bar area relaxed and informal. Tasty menu at reasonable prices. Well trained and knowledgeable bar staff. Supplies of bottled water, tea and biscuits in room replenished daily.
Cons: The bathroom was perhaps smaller than expected but understandable with it being an older traditional hotel. It was spotlessly clean though and served the purpose.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Room was tired. Needs updating. Shower set at certain temp so could not change. Bathroom needs an update. Radiator pipe has been leaking for along time and all rusty. Noisy close to stair doors. No marmalade at breakfast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Just being refurbished at the moment. Great location, great food and the staff were lovely.
7.0 Good
Pros: The room had recently been refurbished and gave excellent view over the harbour. Food in the restaurant very good with a sirloin steak to die for. Nice ground coffee given with room hospitality tray.
Cons: Shower small and pressure quite low.
8.3 Excellent

6
8.7 Excellent (563 reviews)
Overview Reviews
A stay at The Shore places you in the heart of Kirkwall, steps from Mainland and 3 minutes by foot from Orkney Wireless Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are very cosy and comfortable. The breakfast is really good. We also had dinner here both days and the food was amazing! The best chowder I had in my life!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, warm welcome, comfy bed, great shower, lovely food etc etc
Cons: The only thing was the plug in air freshener in the hall area downstairs (but I never like these smells)!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Venue location, pleasant & helpful staff.
Cons: Variable rates seemed a bit unfair, 2 friends had checked in the same accommodation & paid £11 less for the same night.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine. Nicely scrambled eggs with the smoked salmon. Scary toasting machine - but it worked! Liked the room which was quite spacious for a single. Smart hanging device instead of a bulky pointless wardrobe.
Cons: Not much choice of cereals or fruit as far as I recall.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Central location, easy to reach. Stayed before. Good breakfasts.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The highlights of The Shore are the really helpful and friendly staff and the wonderful if overly generous portions of food. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of space for a single traveler. Plenty of hot water in the shower and the temp in the room was easy to control. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room and bottled water.
Cons: The bathroom walls have wallpaper and it was quite dirty. The sliding shower doors don’t open very wide , so it feels a bit claustrophobic going in there. The view was a concrete wall. There’s were no curtains only Venetian blinds. Once the lights came on in the morning outside the room window , there was no chance of sleeping in. Not much space provided to hang clothes .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly helpful staff, Evening meal was very good. Would stay certainly again.
Cons: Only small niggle was that breakfast was ok, but considering you had to pre order and the high standard of other meals it was a little underwhelming. Maybe being rather to critical.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff made us at home, although it was our first time in Orkney. We will definitely come back again. The location is also perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Have no faults with the property.

Pros: Very modern rooms, each bunk bed with a USB port for charging stuff. This is the nicest hostel I have stayed at all week, not that the others weren’t nice, but this one has everything and uses the space in a dorm room very well!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I was very happy with my stay here. I'd stayed somewhere nearby that was three times as expensive a few days earlier and it had been tiny, with poor wifi and very noisy. Cons: The double bed being 2 singles pushed together with over lapping headboards was the only issue
3.0 Mediocre

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We LOVED our stay at the Aviedale! Perfect for solo travellers or couples. It is so cosy and surrounded by beautiful landscape. The place is spotless and has everything you need from extra towels and kitchenware. The bed is super comfortable too. It was very easy to get to using the coordinates that were provided- thank you! Super hosts! We look forward to returning.
7.9 Good
Pros: Extras inside, like washer and dryer
Cons: Needed a comfortable chair or two
4.0 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was a complete fiction. The guest guide listed a wide range of breakfast food provided and included in the cost but NONE was provided. Only 2 coffee capsules on arrival.A bottle of red wine and additional coffee capsules were provided on 2nd day. We had to buy loo rolls as only one provided. Only 2 sheets of kitchen roll and no tea towels provided. No bin liners until 2nd day. Radiators controlled in adjacent property never came on so were cold and could only dry wet clothing using tumble dryer. Electric fan heater said to be in wardrobe not provided. Heating in kitchen using bizarre heated mirror...impossible to control and pretty useless even when on. Fridge so tiny that could hardly store anything and totally unsuitable for self-catering. Cooking facilities inappropriate for self-catering...only one hob portable induction hob. WC seat wouldn't stay up. Shower drain partially blocked so flooded when used
Cons: This is a fairly remote location which is good in some respects but makes it imperative that the unit is properly equipped for self-catering. This unit was manifestly not. Its a longish drive to the nearest supermarket in Kirkwall and so one wants to stock up but the fridge is so minuscule that it is impossible to store perishable items other than in tiny quantities. Cooking facilities are poor...a one place induction hob and a manky microwave which we didn't like to use.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfy, nice touches (maps and leaflets, bathroom products, tea bags etc) really comfy bed, AMAZING view and garden. Super easy check in and out too.
Cons: Everything was lovely although couldn't for the life of me get the coffee to work.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time at the Aviedale Suite. It was exactly what we were expecting but more comfortable. All the facilities worked well and we were able to be completely self-sustainable. In the morning the views over the bay were lovely and it was a fairly short drive to all the locations we wanted to go to during our stay in Orkney.
Cons: Overall we had a great time although if we didn't have the car it would have been very difficult to stay here as there are no shops or restaurants nearby. If I was to nitpick, we brought some coffee to make in the morning but there as only a capsule machine, however about 8 capsules were provided at the start and this did us for the first few days.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, very comfortable bedroom.
Cons: A small welcome pack( e.g.milk ) would have been good as there were no shops close by.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice quiet location
Cons: Hot water controlled from main cottage - not good when they turn it off. Under the bed is not very clean. Could do with a dustpan and brush for spillages

Pros: Great communication and great facikities
