It is modern, spacious, clean room and very good bathroom. Bed and pillows were excellent. They give me free coffee and free use of internet. I will definitely stay again.
localization in city center, nice view over the city, lots of restaurants around, friendly staff, large room maybe only the common bath was missing...
Good location, comfortable room, clean and elegant. no wi-fi internet (cable only)
Very helpful staff
It was a comfortably sized room. Pretty decent location. Check in staff spoke English and check in and check out was a breeze. There are plenty of restaurants near by and the Fresh Mart at the end of the block was great. It was a little hard to find at first.
Stayed at 2 Mystays this trip, Tokyo & Kyoto. Good wired/wifi speed, ok bfast, cramp rooms. Equate Mystays to Starbucks, reliable but better bang for the Yen is nearby w/ a bit of research. Richmond in Yokohama was great and 4 star Tokyo deals abound.
Very good location in town; excellent quality of room for the price. Reception on 1st floor and although all lifts stop briefly there, people not registered at hotel can enter it by lift, bypassing reception. In London, say, this would be a fatal flaw (I once had my room in London entered by burglars in just such a situation). In Kyoto, however, no particular risk is incurred and the door locks were very good. Information about location was not enough to reach the hotel without asking for directions.
Lovely staff, very helpful. Hotel seemed oriented towards the business traveller and more for the older Japanese population. That said, it was a very good, very comfortable hotel. Good value!
Excellent location spacious rooms accommodating staff Lower floor rooms needs refurbishing
This is the most luxury hotel in Kyoto. Everyone will stay there will have the best room and best service for sure!!
It is conveniently located for shopping and public transportation. Service is excellent. There is nothing I did not like about the hotel. I would love to stay again!!!
Very comfortable and of high standard
We loved staying here. My only complaint is that it cost additional money to use the pool, if you chose to use the pool, and more importantly, that you had to be 18 years old to use the pool at all. My wife and I were traveling with our 9-year-old daughter, so none of used the pool because our daughter was too young. This was a huge downer, because Kyoto is very hot in August and we would have welcomed being able to cool off in the pool. By contrast, the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo (The Park Hyatt) had no age restrictions on pool usage (or usage fees) and we used the pool twice a day. Other than the disappointment about the pool, the Kyoto Hotel Okura was a total delight and perfectly located and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the free shuttle too and from Kyoto Station was a welcome surprise. The pool cost money to use. And you need to be at least 18 to use it. This was a huge disappointment since we were traveling with our daughter, who is 9.
My husband and I found the staff to be absolutely fantastic. They were always very helpful and made our staf in Kyoto very memorable.
Location The air conditioner in our room was broken. They couldn't fix it and offered no compensation for it. The rooms and main hallways were stuffy and filled with smoke.
I appreciate the position and the room comfort
location bathroom decor outdated, bedding a bit too hard
Very clean, with very hospitable staff in central city location, Easy walking to lots of shopping and to subway and train stations. Many restaurants in the atrea with first class restaurants in the hotel.
Great value for money. Nice, clean and confortable hotel. Free internet access. Nearby subway access with direct connection to Kyoto railway station. Two convenience stores but not many restaurants in the sorroundings
The hotel itself was pretty average but the value and location were great. Very close to nishiki and teramachi
very nice location - all japanese temples and metro is close; room is well cleaned and quiet; I did not try free bicycle but it is suggested for free there is problem with internet connection; european food in hotel restaurant is terrible
Good location close to the central area and even close to the subway. Free use of internet and free use of bikes. You have to get up early to get a bike in the morning though. We were travelling for 3 weeks and the coin laundry service at the hotel was much needed when the outside temperatures reached 35 degrees. We had a room with a view of the inner courtyard which consists of concrete and the windows of other rooms. Not that exciting but the area provides plenty of sights during daytime and even at night. The rooms and beds are small but that goes for most hotels we stayed at in Japan.
Quiet and convenient. Easy Internet access. WiFi would be easier to use.
Hotel is in a good location very close to subway and restaurants Dated hotel and way overpriced for what you get, fortunately, internet is free, although only wired.
The service from the restaurant and concierge staff was outstanding! No.
I really like this hotel and would like to suggest the next traveller how to get to the hotel that sa soon as you arrive the subway where the hotel situated you have to use exit 1 and wait just wait there for the hotel shuttle bus this was my experience that after i get out from exit 1 i didn't have the idea where the hotel shuttle bus parked lucky me the hotel bus just arrived!
Very friendly and helpfull personell. Excellent restaurants. Good value for money. Nice atmosphere, the hotel is lively because it is used frequently for marriages and social meetings by local Japanese. Very limited foreign tv-channels and rockhard beds. Both seem to be common for Japanese hotels as we experienced during our trip. A bit far away from the centre, about 30 min walk or 10min by taxi.
this a hotel has a good location for explorig the city - subway stops are nearby / had free Internet access in the room it was kind of noisy during the night - hotel and airconditioning
Yu can not take anything inside. The dcheapest dinner is about 200 euros and the breakfast is over 2500 yens Is terribly far from everywhere
The friendliness of the staff and the comfort provided. Close to the Imperial Palace. A bit faraway (15 minutes by taxi) from the centre of Kyoto and the main station.
Friendly staff, decoration of the room, bike rent available, good location - not in the center still not far from it. We really liked our stay in this hotel.
The whole hotel was so fancy and My parents got satisfied by their kind service. Amenities were good, ah they supplied us twin double bed and it was also good. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem of this hotel was the location. Not too bad but can't explain it's good. We 4 families always used taxi but solo or couple travelers may feel the taxi fee in Osaka is a little bit expensive.
rooms big and very clean-attentive staff they gave us an old room to start with. only after complaining we were moved to a newly refurbished room. having to complain it is not a pleasant experience
Hotel location is close to Kyoto train station and the new Aeon Shopping Mall. The mattress is as firm as it gets. I had difficulty sleeping on my side or back. The hotel configuration is not suitable if your room is situated far from the elevator. It seems the elevator is at one end of hotel and our room at the opposite end. Hotel is U-shaped and we walked liked 200 meters to the elevators.
The location can't be beat! It is right by the JR line and makes it easy for navigating the city and having a base to get back to before going out and exploring more! The staff was extremely nice and attentive and spoke relative good English. It was a bit dusty in certain places, also the bed was very hard.
The location was excellent. The staff were immaculately groomed and dressed. All staff were very polite. We especially want to praise the door-man who greeted us in such a friendly manner each day with a bow and a smile and a few words in English. The rooms were kept very well.
Convenient location to Tokyo station and airport bus right at the entrance to the hotel. I wish there could be more hanging hooks for towels/clothes in the bathroom. Having only one is not as functional for two people in the room.
very clean and cozy hotel, convenient location
Excellent hotel, clean, modern. Concierge was very helpful. Internet was free and reasonably fast. Location is a little away from the main sites to see but relatively close to Kyoto station. Overall, excellent place to stay. Please do not bring your kids here. The entire hotel was generally excellent for adults, business travelers, solo travelers, romantic getaways. Exception was that there was one family with possibly the only children in the hotel running/stomping around. Not appropriate. Please don't bring your children, this is not Disneyland, or at least keep your children under better control.
Please write at least 15 words
Rooms nice modern and spacious. Great bathroom and shower. Staff all spoke English and extremely nice and helpful Everything
Staff service. Room view for the amount of money paid, overpriced room service with not so high food quality
I like the design of the hotel the most. Lobby area is very spacious and nice. Breakfast was wonderful. Rooms are very nicely decorated with simple zen design. The bathroom area was very well planed and nicely done. The restaurants were not up to their standards. The food was average and the price was certainly high.
Helpful concierge desk. Very helpful indeed. Very small issue, of when we received a tiny bottle of ketchup in our room, which was opened / partially used. I'm sure it was an oversight, but it would probably offend an infrequent traveller.
The Staff was very polite and helpfull.
The Grand Prince Hotel in Kyoto, Japan was one of the best experiences I have ever had in staying at a hotel. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was simply amazing. The staff promoted saving our environment with free breakfast if you reused your towels- what a concept! The gift store was better than many shops downtown, and the walking paths made exercising a joy. The subway was minutes away, and the staff made finding the sites easy. I have no complaints, which is rare.
The property is beautiful and well maintained. It's very convenient to the subway. The staff is super helpful. What's not to like? There are few businesses around the hotel (restaurants, bars, etc...). This means that going out for a bite to eat means eating at the hotel (expensive), taking a taxi, or taking the subway.
This hotel is located in the beautiful hills above Kyoto within walking distance of the train station. It is a lovely building, however the upkeep is showing strain. The hallway carpets were stained, the room was slightly worn looking, though clean. The staff were helpful but seemed somewhat over-worked. There was no shuttle service into town; things that I would have expected from a luxury hotel. Aside from this, the hotel stay was quite enjoyable as it is a beautiful hotel. It is just not being kept up to the standard one would expect.
Room size No
Appearance of the hotel, comfortable rooms, beautiful view from the window, dobrozhilatelny staff, not very delicious Breakfast is served. What, if anything, didn't you like during your stay at Aranvert Hotel Kyoto?
the public transportation connection was very good. You could reach all interesting spots within a short time. Inside the room it was too hot and a regulation of the heat was not really possible.
Good location between Kyoto station and city centre Gion street, clean room
Got upgraded to a bigger room, very friendly staff, close to gojo station, good value Location is a bit boring but close to subway
Location and cleanliness. Cramped room for a semi double.
We enjoyed our stay and were particularly pleased with the clean room and bathroom. The lobby is a bit kitschy and somewhat odd but I found the staff to be extremely helpful in providing information on bus routes, restaurants etc. I highly recommend this hotel.
The Hotel Monterey Kyoto was a great location for our weekend getaway in Kyoto. It was within walking distance of Nijo Castle (which I hightly recommend), the Imperial Palace, and the central Kyoto shopping areas. There is a subway station very close to the hotel so travel was easy. The subway stop is only a few away from Kyoto Station so it's easy to navigate. There are several Starbucks in the immediate area and a post office in case you need an ATM. In Japan if you are an international traveler it can be difficult to use a bank ATM; the post office has an ATM that accepts almost all cards. The staff at the hotel were very kind and welcoming, they even wiped off our luggage when we arrived b/c it had gotten wet in the light rain while we walked from the subway station and they had plenty of umbrellas for guests to use (for those of us who didn't come prepared). The concierge was friendly and helpful and even called the airline to double check something about our flight home and found...
This is a lovely hotel in the center of Kyoto. It's a short distance from most sights. The rooms are clean and of descent size. Breakfast was included. Good buffet breakfast.
Conveniently located. Clean and well appointed. Very secure Helpful staff. No problems.
We would highly recommend this hotel for location and service. Hotel Monterey is only three years old which was one of the reasons we chose it. The rooms are quite small but had everything we needed. The staff and concierge did everything we asked of them. Within several blocks there are three or more Starbucks, several other coffee / pastry shops and a very nice grocery store as well as several mini marts. There are many restaurants within walking distance and taxis are readily available. Kyoto train station was no more than 10-12 minutes by taxi. We did not use the Spa but did check it out and was lovely and a pretty good value. We booked a day tour through the hotel and had excellent service with the tour operator.
The Hotel Monterey Kyoto was by far one of the best hotels I've ever been to. From the moment I walked through the lobby their staff was beyond helpful, which is a great comfort for any foreign traveler. Their rooms were comfortable and clean with sufficient space for leisure or spacing out a nights worth of souvenir shopping. I absolutely recommended this hotel.
I don't think I've ever slept so well. Our room was fairly small, but extremely clean and comfortable, with a wonderfully luxurious bed. The hotel is beautifully decorated. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and were able to assist us in English. The location is also pretty good: it's on a nondescript commercial boulevard, but is walking distance from a good number of restaurants, temples and shrines. This hotel isn't cheap, but it makes for a very comfortable stay.
Good value for the money. The property has pleasantly quirky decor, and is spotless and well-maintained. The English-speaking concierge, front desk, and bell staff are all very courteous and helpful. The rooms are well-furnished and large by Japanese standards, and the bathrooms are functional for both Japanese and Western users. The Spa on the 13th (top) floor of the hotel is beautiful and well worth the extra fee.
The hotel is clean comfortable and conveniently located. Easy access to the train stations. The front desk staff is knowledgeable helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Kyoto.
+ Classy Place + Staff did a great job of giving travel tips and directions + Good access to public transportation +/- No cultural surprises - Barely enough space in the room to sit luggage - Not a wide choice of restauraunts in the immediate vacininty ( but plenty withing walking distance)
The fantastic architecture with its central atrium around the lobby made it such a tranquil place to return to every day. The gift shop was excellent too, with higher quality souvenirs than most other shops. The mattresses were a bit too firm for us, however this seems to be the case for all the hotels we stayed in. The location is not too bad, however there was nothing of interest close to the hotel, such as restaurants or shops to walk to. The hotel did offer a shuttle bus to the station where there are a few restaurants and shops though.
The first day, they give us a room in the 5 floor, wich is for smoking people. Wen we make a complain, were change for other room in the same floor. Fortuny the nex day we change to the 8 flor, no smoking and with a beautiful japan is stile
The staff, cleanliness, location to the train station. Nothing noted
Good location near the central Kyoto St. The room was comfortable and clean. They asigned us in smoking floor, and the smoking smells was terrible. We asked for a change and they assigned a room two doors beside. Next day they changed yo a better room in other floor.
Nice lobby and facade We had booked a room for two. The bed was what is called "full" in U.S.- adequate for 1 adult to sleep comfortably. Room and bathroom were tiny (even by Japanese standards) - looks nice outside in pictures. For the price, sure there are better hotels in Kyot
Had Public Bath Had Washing Machine Helpful Staff 2nd floor was loud when activities were going on. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Staff tried to help but couldn't move us as it was booked that night, but was helpful in calming down the residents a little.
Everything in this hotel were excelent. Excelent hotel
Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways. The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space. They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver. No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.
It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to. It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.
We were a group of 5 adults traveling throughout Japan. The Kyoto Royal Hotel offered great convenience, but the rooms are very basic and smaller, and the bed cozy for me and my 6'3" husband. The concierge was absolutely very accomodating, but there was a bit of a language barrier, so just be sure to ask a lot of questions to ensure you understand! I would return there. Good value. Huge breakfast buffet.
Good location Rooms very small, but clean. Staff very friendly.
Nice staff No hot water for showering. I opened the window and got all the smoke from 1 level lower. Breakfast buffet so/so.
I stayed at The Kyoto Royal Hotel and Spa for my first trip overseas as well as my first trip to Japan. Some of the cultural differences where noted such as heights of sinks, counter tops, and showers. The room I stayed in had a Double Semidouble-deluxe bed. It was in fact 1 bed and was comparable to a full/queen size. I thought there would be two. The bed could sleep for two I suppose. The room I had was just enough to accommodate myself. Seeing as I am a minimalist and being a lone traveler, this worked out fine for me. The hotel is right next to a subway station, river walk, and market the next block over. I highly recommend getting the breakfast buffet included with your room. It is totally worth it! The Prandina does a excellent job with both food and staff. Food is excellent with a wide variety of choices. You have the option to eat local foods or foods that you would eat if you were back home. The food presentation is wonderful and is replenished very quickly. Hotel staff is very friendly and are very professional. Hotel staff also opens doors for you when getting out of the taxi! No need to walk far for access to transit or taxis, Taxis are ready available once outside the hotel lobby and bus stops are right outside the hotel as well. You will just need to know what bus or train to take (research that to death before you go! It can be overwhelming and you will probably get lost at some point). I believe bike rental is available at the front desk as I saw the same bikes everyday. I did have a local friend visit me daily as I toured the city. She traveled by bike and the hotel stored her bike in their storage free of charge while we were out in a separate location from the fore mentioned bikes. Also, if you are flying back home from any of the Osaka Airports, the hotel can request for a shuttle service to pick you from the hotel up to 1 day prior by 12:00 noon at a cost to you, which you must pay the driver at the time of pick up, The cost will vary by service provided and service rendered. I do hope this review is helpful to someone and, Yes! I will stay there again on my next trip to Kyoto, Japan.
One of the few hotels where the staff speak English. Extremely friendly/helpful staff. Close to a subway station and Gion district for shopping/food. Nice bathroom products.
3 stations away from Kyoto's main subway/train station. One exchange needed
Great location and clean room Tiny room
The buffets in the restaurant were good. The finish was peeling off the bathroom surfaces, and I woke up with a rash everywhere my skin had been in prolonged contact with a pillow case.
Good location There's a smoking floor and they will try to put you in a smoking room even when you booked nonsmoking. Not that it matters, you can smell the smoke throughout the hotel. Bed was like sleeping on a floor
Clean room, spa service was excellent! Staff was super helpful. Convenient location.
The location is perfect to walk to restaurants, shops, buses & subway trains. The staff and accommodations were outstanding. The price was very reasonable. They charged extra for two beds rather than a king.
The staff. Super friendly and willing to assist you. The location was really good. There's a little cafeteria on the bottom floor, which made it very convenient. Even though we stayed at on a non-smoking floor, you could smell cigarette smoke on the hallways.
Great staff with probably the best english skills in Kyoto. They provided great service throughout our stay. Free shuttlebus to Kyoto station. The hotel is a bit old and the interior looks old and worn wth stains, etc. The hotel is located a bit far from the main streets with shops and restaurants. You need a bike or the subway to get home from the central part of Kyoto.
Beautiful lobby, excellent location. good restaurant
The efficiency and kindness of the staff
Big clean room at a very reasonable price. Friendly, helpful English speaking staff. Beautiful waterfall outside the bar area. Nothing.
The staff were very polite and eager to assist any way that they could The bed in my room - like the docor - dated to the 1970's. Ridiculous that you have to pay for use of the pool. The food is ridiculously expensive and sub standard. 600 yen for a cup of coffee and they poured less than half of a tea cup.
