Personal-touch experience and charm were a welcome alternative to the chain hotels. If you are looking for a warm, charming, unique inn experience, the Inn on 23rd is right for you. For example, each room is decorated in a unique style; breakfast is served in a cozy common area; and a fat, friendly cat may greet you at the front desk and accompany you up the elevator. It was nice to stay in a place that felt more like a home and less like a hotel. The girls were very pleasant and always friendly. The young man who helped check us in seemed rushed and not quite as friendly, but he certainly was not rude. The only downside was that the walls seemed paper thin. At night we could hear people having their 'quality time,' if you will, and in the morning we were woken up by loud vaccums on the floor above us. Not the best place for kids...and dont have sex! Less of a Bed and Breakfast and more of a Studio Apartment with a kitchen. It was like having your own place in the city! Just the ability to make yourself eggs in the morning instead of paying through the nose at some eatery really saved us a bundle. They stocked the fridge with Milk, juices, a fruit plate, and the pantry had a loaf of bread and some cereals. Our room was very large and comfortable, but the best advantages are the privacy and access to the subway, only a short walk away. Going downtown one stop you can transfer to the A train which makes the ride to Columbus Circle and Times Square really quick.

When I made the reservation, the hotel required us confirm our arrival time. I called several times, sent an email, and even faxed the hotel. At this point, I was worried whether or not we could check in properly. Finally, the afternoon we were planning to arrive they finally called us back. When I checked in the time I confirmed, the front door was locked, and nobody was there. I called the hotel, and nobody answered. I waited for another hour at the door, but I had an appointment that night, so I left. When I came back 2 hours later, I could finally get inside.

We are ex New Yorkers (35 years in Brooklyn) and were visiting a dear friend to attend her husband's memorial service. She lives 2 miles north in Washington Heights. It was great to be in a real NYC neighborhood with all its significant history and row house ambiance and proximity to subways. We loved the building and the coziness and warmth of the interior. Being surrounded by all the antiques and fantastic art was very pleasing. Our two breakfasts(we missed one as we had to leave early one AM) were quite satisfactory. The woman serving was very pleasant and efficient. We were sorry to have not met Felicia.

Location and uniqueness! The cable tv did not work at all. After two nights my room was changed and I received about 6 channels of Manhattan access. Only local strange shows, zero network or regular cable stations were available. The last night nothing again. Horrible ! The television situation ruined my entire stay as there is little to do nearby. The staff did not seem to be able to explain why the tv problem existed. Only blaming the cable company but never telling me when they were coming to fix it. For all intensive purposes I had zero tv for the entire six days if my stay. This is unacceptable. I have never had a problem with a hotel booked on Priceline .before. I may be wary doing it again! ... more
