Pros: We were the first time in the Hotel Boutique Rivera Del Rio and are totally thrilled. This Hotel and its Crew is outstanding! After a perfect organized pickup service from the airpot we enjoyed a very warm welcome with an one-hour conversation ans handmade Mageritas. The hotel´s motto: Come as a friend and feel like home is lived here honestly! Melina, Ariana and Krisztina are pearls in this business. They forfilled all our wishes and make our stay incredibly comfortable. The breakfast is very delicious and you order it a la carte, wich means it´s always fresh cooked. A tip of us, if ever possible enjoy your breakfast at the bar with a view of the river and Geckos in the trees, just enjoy the peace and unwind. We had the room Maria Posa and loved the decor, a large room with fireplace and balcony. This house has a good energy to its guests and we have never been so relaxed. The poo, and especially the Jaccuzi are wonderful and highly recommended. The Poolbar is well equipped and you can mix your own drinks against a signature; what a trust. We´re really sorry that we couldn´t stay longer. If we ever come back to Puerto Vallarta, we are looking forward to stay again in Rivera Del Rio. Ladies, you have done a terrific job and we´ll miss you.

Pros: It's the little things that make a holiday - we had a lovely check in with free Margaritas (even one for my friend who was with us but staying elsewhere) and lots of detailed info about the area. Breakfast was unreal, several courses and bottomless tea and coffee. Lovely staff, quirky decor and nice neighbourhood right on the river. Would 100% recommend.

Pros: This was our second time staying here, we loved it so much the first time that we brought our friends back with us. Melina and Oscar are fantastic and will do whatever they can to make your stay the best. They are so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area and offered great recommendations for restaurants and bars. We mentioned that it was our friends birthday and they surprised them in their room with wine and a beautiful handwritten welcome note as well as birthday breakfast tequila shots! The breakfast is excellent and served in the lobby area which is absolutely beautiful! The very friendly staff serving breakfast also make this place 10/10. The location is excellent and is about a 10 minute stroll to the beach and boardwalk area. There are a few great taco stands really close and small grocery stores to grab sodas, beers and snacks near by. Whenever we visit Puerto Vallarta we will be staying here and definitely in the Alejandro Suite for the view!

Pros: Great location along the river in what feels like a very safe, local neighborhood. Quick walks to the local markets, beaches, malecon, great street food, shopping etc. I think it might be the best location for someone who wants to see the less tourist driven areas of PV. The hotel is eclectic in a very romantic way. It feels intimate and you could easily make friends with both the staff and the other guests at the small pool and honor system bar. We would stay again in a heart beat.

Pros: Great location, very friendly staff
Cons: Pretty run down. My sister’s room was damp and moldy and the room they offered wasn’t much better. Duvets in our room were old, pilly and no longer white and there were patches on the sheets. Mattress was not great. It did not warrant the high numbers it advertised.

Cons: Like one of the reviewers noted, I too was placed in a room that faced the air conditioning units in the courtyard. The best outcome for this situation is that I know I would have been moved to a better room if I had asked. But I was only there one night so didn't bother.

Pros: Check-in was easy, bell hop led us to our room which was not ready so we had to go back to the front desk to get another room assignment. Second room was much smaller, faced the inner courtyard area. It also did not have a balcony like the first room did. It had one window which faced the inner courtyard area and another window with obscured glass to let in natural sunlight. Couldn't leave the courtyard window open for security reasons. I understand the location and "ocean smells" that occur but the room was quite musty smelling...beyond what I have ever experienced in an near-ocean hotel. A room with a balcony and window to the exterior would allow you to air the room out a bit.
The bathroom was fine, shower a bit small but it worked for our needs. Decent closet with pelnty of hangers, a shelf, and a safe. The room also had a small 3-drawer dresser but every drawer slide was broken so it took a little work to open and close them.
Overall, the location is the greatest value of this hotel. The lobby, courtyard and rooms are finished with typical spanish decor. The bed was quite comfortable and rooftop area and pool are very inviting and offer decent views of downtown and the farmers market area.

Pros: This quaint hotel's location is right in the middle of so much of Vallarta - Old Vallarta, Playa Los Muertos, Malecon, great restaurants, Guadalupe church, and on and on. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We had bit of a leaking A/C and they attended to it right away. Pros: I loved this hotel. It was one street up from the beach which made it less busy so the staff was always available to help me. I enjoyed that it more of a Mexican feel rather than a resort feel although if you want that resort feel you just walk across the street. The lobby area was cool and airy with vines growing everywhere.
This seemed like a hotel adults who want to relax would enjoy. The pool was on he rooftop.

Pros: The hotel is located in a very central area, close to everything in old town.
Cons: The rooms are small, we had a balcony for the first half of our stay, which was great as we could put a suitcase on it to be able to maneuver around the room. For the second half we didn’t and the room was uncomfortably small and with no windows to see out of or open, it felt very claustrophobic.

Cons: The biggest problem was some noise. There was some construction going on nearby but also street sounds that cropped up from time to time in the night and morning. I'm a heavy sleeper and was fine but my wife who's a light sleeper woke up several times. The A/C worked well but leaked a pool of water in the room. We suspect it was due to heavy rains at the time.
None of this caused us to regret our selection. It wasn't awful; just something to note.

Pros: Beautiful hotel, modern and comfortable. Staff was amazingly nice and quick to respond whenever we needed something. The view from the gym and the terrace, the beautiful pool, and so many things.
Cons: The thumping music that never stops! I heard it so loud at the beach, by the pool, and in my balcony. There was no place anywhere in the resort where I can lay down by the water and have a quiet moment. I was unable to relax because of this. Another thing that I want to mention is the sell of drugs on the nearby streets. Drug dealers pray on every person that they see walking to and from the beach. They harassed me so bad that I got very upset at some point but didn't want to get into trouble. They wouldn't even leave me alone in my balcony, constantly yelling all the drugs the they sell and insisting with hand gestures that I come down to buy their stuff. One time someone offered me drugs just outside the lobby of the hotel in front of the staff. It's really bad for business that this kind of illegal activity is tolerated and allowed to take over the entire area.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great beach access. Jesus the bellboy and Ernesto from concierge were standouts and went above and beyond to provide great service.
Cons: Air conditioning did not work for half the stay and was very uncomfortable. It wasn’t properly fixed with daily entries which was disruptive and annoying. The renovations to the building also means very early work starting at 7am in the morning.

Pros:
Cons: The hotel is under construction and the noise started at 8:00am and went on all day long and into the evening till 9:00pm.
We were moved from one very noisy room to another that was still noisy.
It's a nice place with lots of potential but I'd wouldn't recommend staying there till they are completely finished with all their construction.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Jacuzzi on the balcony. Large walk-in shower.
Cons:
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Location to beach
Cons: ALL rooms have an ocean view, except X15 rooms. Unknowingly, I booked the one set of rooms that doesn't view the ocean. I've stayed here before and never knew there were non-ocean facing rooms, and the website didn't make that clear. We were there one night, and when asked to be moved, they wanted $80 more. It was already over-priced and not worth the value, in my opinion.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff and facilities and quality of food and service was wonderful! Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The constant construction particularly in the morning made it difficult to sleep in. Would have been nice to have been alerted about it before.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at Almar were wonderful. The rooms were comfortable, very clean and we had a great view of the beach. Having access to the Mantamar Beach Club was nice as we spent a lot of time at the pool. The hotel is welcoming to all but we really appreciated that Almar especially caters to LGBT couples.
Cons: There is still construction going on around the hotel which was a little noisy but it wasn't as intrusive as some people suggested. They will try to sell you on a timeshare breakfast but our rep was very respectful and didn't push us to attend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The views, rooms, and rooftop bar with jacuzzis are a plus. I enjoyed the modern room design and the check in process was seamless. Cons: Our room joined onto the managers room - so we shared the same balcony. That was not great, so we did not go out side, but rather kept the curtains closed and door locked! Also, we faced into a dingy alley with people staring right at us, not nice.

Pros: I loved the hammock in the rooms. Cute and simple idea but it was welcoming and comforting. The all white accents were nice. A couple pops of color would do that room wonders!
Cons: This is just a small review as a suggestion. The shower curtain was so cheap for such a cute small room. The water pressure was very low which made my shower times longer. I hate feeling like I'm wasting water. I know it's hard to avoid but I noticed a trail of small ants in my room. It didn't bother me because the openness of Mexico is something I love about it... I was worried about them getting into my shoes and luggage though. I enjoyed myself though. I'll be back.

Pros: The property was centrally located, just up the stairs past the funicular. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable but a bit spartan. The water was hot and air conditioning cold.

Cons: The shower we had would always flood the entire bathroom, with only a thin curtain and no ledge to catch the excess water. Also, everything just felt dirty. We found a weird yellowish stain on our sheets and they always felt a little sticky. Oh and by far the worst part was all of the fleas. There were hundreds of fleas in the bed, on the floor. Cons:
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and professional. The hotel was very clean. The room was private and I didn't have anyone bothering me. It was a nice place to stay, good value for money. Would recommend to solo travelers and couples.
Cons: It was advertised on their listing that wi-fi was available in all areas, which was the main reason I chose this hotel over two others. Unfortunately, some rooms didn't have any wi-fi signal and in my room I had to place my laptop close to the door to get the signal. Also, the 3pm check-in was very late for me. 12pm or 1pm is acceptable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, location
Cons: Busy street out front
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff and location were amazing. It's one street away from the Malecon, but it's not as busy. The restaurant was great as well. You get amazing food for a decent price and it's not as busy as all of the restaurants on the boardwalk. You can enjoy your meal in peace.
Cons: Beds were tiny.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to the Malecón and an awesome housekeeper Brenda!
Cons: No elevator.

Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the Playa Los Arcos where I thought we were going to stay and enjoyed it.
Cons: We were not by the oceanfront. The kitchen and living room floor was dirty and wasn't swept or mopped. There was a slow leak coming through the ceiling. There was 2 complimentary bottles of water in the fridge but 1 had some gone and should have been disposed in garbage.

Pros: It was in front of the beach and centric, in a nice part of Old Vallarta. Food was ok, though not impressive. Staff was courteous and nice.
Cons: They where drilling holes and hammering from 8:00am, making it a awful morning every single day. We stayed five days and it was really annoying. Also, room service: terrible. Nobody had a clue on what we could order or how much it costed. And when it was finally delivered the food was cold.

Cons: Noise from the bar next door continued until at least 11:00 at night. We were on the third floor in room 304 and it was loud enough to keep us up. Small room with old furnishings and torn pillows, but that's what I expected from a budget hotel 1/2-block from the bay. Both pools are small and not for swimming. Pros: This was my second time staying at Emperador because I enjoyed it so much the first time. Cancha (housekeeper) was pleasant and my room was always clean. Brenda, Will, and the other wait staff were EXCELLENT!!! Eloy, the Porter, always had a smile on his face and a kind remark. Emperador is an older hotel in the Romantico Zone--walking distance to fabulous restaurants, shopping, bars, etc.; however, the food at Emperador is fabulous! They knew I drank Chardonney and would bring the bottle to refill my glass when it was almost empty--attention to detail and its customers! It's right on the beach with fabulous beach views. I love going there and can't wait until my next trip! There is an outdoor kitchen, the room has a king-sized bed and, since I was in a suite, there is a trundle bed. Plenty of clothes storage (drawers and a rod for hanging). The bathroom has a shower only so don't expect a tub. Overall it's a clean, SAFE, and pleasant hotel!

The staff is very friendly and provide you with anything you need. There is an Oxxo right outside of the hotel for quick runs of snacks, water, beer. A/C in the hotel is extremely helpful!
Cons: The bathroom was in need of some repairs, it doesn't have a window so it's very stale and muggy most of the time.

Pros: Room 116 which is way in back in north east section. My 3rd and probably last stay there. Reservation said room with balcony and river view. When i got there they said no river view rooms available and they said the same thing the next few days. Bed was hard and not level, kind of a humpback. Toilet would only flush once every 15 minutes as is takes that long for the tank to refill. Window blinds were thin so not very dark in the room at night. They updated the TV to a nice flat screen with many channels though only about 6 in english. The TV remote did not work consistently. Maid service was good. Location pretty good for the price, a block or so from ocean, few blocks from usable beach. If you are over 49 you probably would not put up with all of the little problems with this place. If you get a river view room you can overlook most of them, otherwise i would pass. Air conditioning worked OK though loud which helped drown out the street noise. The shower had very hot water to my surprise though the toilet is located basically in the shower which is odd. Ceilings are nice and high. Free wifi, in the lobby only, which is nice. The lights in the room are not very bright making it hard to shave or put on makeup. Saw a gecko in my room once.

1.0 Poor
Pros: We visit Puerto Vallarta frequently (4 -6 times per year) and have stayed at Hotel Encino, as well as their sister Hotel previously, and found them to be likable. This time that was not the case (see below)
Cons: Our reservation was through "booking.com" for 2 adults, and we had specified a room with two separate beds. We also indicated a preference for an end or corner room on the quieter side of the Hotel. Our preference was acknowledged favorably by the Hotel. Upon arrival we paid for our two night stay with a credit card and were taken to a tiny room (I've seen closets that were bigger) intended for a single person, and with only 1 twin size bed. We pointed out that we had reserved a room for 2 adults with 2 beds. The bus boy who brought out bags up for us apologized and left to get us the keys to another room . We waited for a considerable period of time, enough so that a lady (not sure if she was a hotel employee or not) asked why we were sitting on our baggage outside this tiny room for so long. We explained, and she pointed out a room two doors down that had two beds, was an end unit, and the door was open, which she said meant that it had not been rented yet. At that point we went back to the lobby to see why the holdup, and were told that they had no two bed rooms available, and that even if they did it would be for approximately 400 pesos more than we had previously booked and paid for through "booking.com". I was perturbed but said no harm done then, just refund the money to our credit card and we will try to find another room somewhere else (not an easy task at 4PM on Saturday the week before Thanksgiving). I was then told "sorry - no refunds allowed"!!!. Arguing the point that either the Hotel or "booking.com" had screwed up and that the room was totally unsatisfactory for our needs, not to mention not what we had contracted for, did no good. Their policy was that once they had your money they were not going to refund it!. I will think seriously about using "booking.com" again in the future.

Pros: Budget hotel but decent value for what I paid. Excellent location (I think that this is the best part of Puerto Vallarta), and has a nice pool deck. There are several good bars and restaurants nearby (I recommend COEXISTbistro for breakfast and River Cafe for dinner).
Cons: My room had no outside windows, just shutters that opened onto the courtyard; you should ask for a room that faces the river, if possible. There was quite a lot of noise due to guests yelling in the hallways and no soundproofing.

Pros: Front desk staff was friendly and hotel is easy access to boardwalk.
Cons: Room was in poor condition. Stains on bedding, mattress hard and uncomfortable, and had to stand on a chair to reach the A/C unit.
Booked another hotel and checked out within an hour. Encino refused to give a refund.
7.1 Good
Pros: Restaurant on roof was very handy for supper.
Cons: Toilet didn't flush properly, hotel desk did not give us the room I booked. Gave us the Mexican run around. Was never resolved. Seemed to be one pot of coffee for whole hotel. A rather fake convenience.

Cons: Wow where to start The pool was disgusting. I have never seen such a filthy pool in a hotel as what I found here. Very disappointed. Even the pool for 21 and over was full of small children. No authority to tell them that they could not be in there let alone there mothers feeding them inside the pool. That is why there is so much filth. Hotel employees must tell these people not to eat and drink in the pool. Yes there is signs in the pool area but nobody respected that. Your Hotel needs more authority. I didn't like the idea of every time they cleaned the room I was never left clean towels I had to call front desk and request towels !! People would get in the elevators dripping wet and no employee told these people not to do so. Even thou once again the signs clearly said not to get in wet !! Parking I can't believe only 5 spots but then you can have Taxi's take up the rest. Really not very convenient to your guest. Gosh my list can go on and on. I just was not happy with your facility. Really need to clean up the hotel and train your employees on how to follow directions !!!

Pros: everything, I've been coming here for years as a solo Traveller, and they are always so inviting and kind. The price is perfect for what you get. its an old building, with plenty of stairs but they keep it immaculate! there are many options in town for a budget traveler, I'll pick Hacienda any day over the others because it's very warm. and is so nice to see the locals swim with their children in the pool. Its a happy place. And if you love sitting on the balcony, watching the city live and breathe, it's perfect. *beware that there is a lot of street noise. But they know and they price it that way. Some white noise or ear plugs, and you just saved yourself hundreds of dollars. and it's 100% safe! I have been there at least 20 times and never have I had to worry about money or something being taken from my room. ***remember to TIP the maids, PLEASE. and don't give them US dollars. THINK! would you want to have to stand in line at the bank to just exchange $5 in tips money. Those ladies and men bust their behinds to ensure that your room is clean. and they will USUALLY let me check in early. Highly recommend if you're not super picky. If you can take a little street noise and you can walk some stairs. You will be happy!

There are no telephones in the room. There is only WiFi available in the lobby.
4.2 Okay
Pros: I thing this hotel needs major repairs is rundown , the rooms are really bad condition, the pictures on the website are from early 2000’s don’t get fool , the rooms are depressing this place needs a lift immediately, the only good thing is the location. The front desk girl always look mad never smile or at least she could fake it .
Cons: The location is the good thing. They sale drugs outside the hotel .
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: I will be nice and just say, NO WAY JOSE!!!
Cons: Gross!, Nasty!,

Second room, direct sun light room And no A/C, very hot & muggie!
Third room Sir, ok wait in lobby four hours and we have No rooms Sir! ?
WoW, I just walked away they had no help!
NO Way Jose!!
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location. Close to restaurants and nightlife.
Cons: Facility needs a lot of maintenance.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location right on the beach with no extra charge for chairs.
View from my oceanfront room is as good as it gets in PV.
Room was extremely clean.
Hallways were dark.
Cons: Low water pressure and luke-warm water.
No dresser in my room to unpack-had to live out of my suitcase.
2.8 Mediocre
Pros: the air conditioner
Cons: first room had view of couples bedroom - they liked to keep their curtains open.
after paying for "upgrade" got a smaller room with small balcony. the room had no towels, no light bulbs, no blankets. the hairdryer was so broken it could have electrocuted someone. permanent stains on towels, sheets, blankets and bedspread. no cups or glasses. no coffee maker. shower drain and toilet drain were clogged.
pools were very small and all surrounded by buildings.
highly not recommended.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Location and ocean views
Cons: Water went out till afternoon 3 days out of 7 due to repairs and there was no compensation for the huge inconvenience. I requested an explanation from the staff and they said the general manager would contact me, which he never did. The staff was not courteous at all. Bad Service, Bad Facilities. I will not be staying at this hotel again.
