Overview Reviews
Once known as the Portland Press Herald built in 1923, the Press Hotel Autograph Collection now occupies the building and sits at the same corner of Exchange and Congress Streets in downtown Portland. This full-service boutique hotel captures both the downtown scene of Portland and the essence of the news building it habits, complete with an amazing guest experience. Inspiration for each room comes from the writer’s offices of the previous area. All of the hotel’s 110 guest room and suites have a vintage-styled journalist deck and wood floors with a herringbone area as a centerpiece. Oversized windows provide a fresh breeze and natural light to help view the local work of artists and artisans also featured in each room. Of course, guests will also appreciate complimentary water, tea or coffee along with bathrobes, a mini-fridge, an in-room safe, and complimentary WiFi throughout. UNION Restaurant and Lounge gives guests both farm-to-table and sea-to-table dining experiences with original takes on classic American favorites. The second option is Inkwell Bar that offers hand-crafted cocktails, Portland microbrews, and small plates of food in the former City Room of the Press Herald. While at the Press Hotel Autograph Collection, guests have 24-7 access to the fitness center, hotel bikes, turndown service, and Akari Spa that is located just a block down the street. The hotel is also ideal for meeting and events with four spaces varying from 300 to 1,170 square feet. Outside of the hotel, guests can engage with Casco Bay hiking and trails along with amazing Portland sights and food.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a nice room, I enjoyed the kitchen and there was plenty of space... the bed was large and comfy. It was exactly what I was looking for.
Cons: They must have a smoking section because I could smell it all through the elevator and some hallways.. but! Not my room just to make that clear... my room had no trace of smoking.... the only complaint I had about my room was the uncomfortable couch haha but that didn't really matter over all.... great stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean! Clean! Clean! So thankful we found this hotel as we have tried others in the area with no luck. The room was great, I like how the bedroom and living room are separate, the staff was friendly and helpful, the complimentary breakfast was beyond our expectations, the pool and hot tub were clean, the gym area was nice, did I mention it was so clean (obviously my greatest concern)! Great shops and restaurants near by! We will be staying here during our next trip to Maine! Thank you!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Roomy. Small kitchenette would have been useful if we had stayed more than one night.

Overview Reviews
Visiting Maine is something that all travelers enjoy because Maine has one of the most scenic landscapes in all of New England. Whether you are traveling for fall foliage season or looking to see Acadia National Park in the summer, the natural world in Maine is unmatched. There are plenty of different outdoor activities, but when you stay in Portland, ME, one of the best options for travelers is to stay at the Embassy Suites by Hilton. When visiting the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Portland, travelers have access to the best of everything. This hotel is located right in the middle of Portland and the Maine Mall is located right next door. The amenities in the hotel are excellent as well. From comfortable beds to large desks, the rooms have everything travelers have come to expect from a top hotel. Within the hotel, there is also a fitness center, so you can get a workout in at the beginning of the day so you start off on the right foot. In terms of dining, there are plenty of options in and around the hotel. Breakfast is included, so you can start the day off without having to scramble for a cup of coffee. Room service is available as well, so if you don’t feel like heading to a different setting, just order up. There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance as well. Inside the hotel is the restaurant Waypoint. This is a great place to grab a delicious dinner without having to worry about going out. Staying at the Embassy Suites by Hilton is one of the best ways to see Portland.
4.2 Okay
Pros: I liked that the hotel was pet friendly and had a reception in the evening. The location was convenient to bother the jet port and downtown Portland.
Cons: The hotel did not have a requested item set up in the room upon arrival. The shower had hair on the walls and there were people smoking underneath our window all night, which came directly into the room through a vent. It was very slippery out and all of the walkways and sidewalks remained untreated, making it very unsafe for both guests and pets. Management was not particularly responsive to any of these concerns.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendly staff, happy hour at the lounge, excellent breakfast, clean and large rooms ...what is there not to like?!
Cons: No fault of Embassy Suits, but I showed up a week early! And they were booked solid. We came back the next week to celebrate 38 years of marraige. (It was worth the wait - LOL).

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great- the valet attendants were very professional (and the parking was actually cheaper than the city parking garages) and the front desk staff were very helpful. They even had a complimentary car service! You also can't beat the location of the hotel- a minute walk and you're surrounded by beautiful shops and restaurants!
Cons: Our room was near the elevator and the pantry- due to the proximity of those two things, it was pretty loud throughout the night. There was a sign next to the pantry encouraging people to be quiet but I'm not sure that advice was taken. While the wooden floors were beautiful, I don't think they did a lot to muffle noise when people walked to their rooms in the middle of the night.

There is an armchair and ottoman with the king-sized bed as well. The Hilton Garden Inn also has suites for guests as well. These suites are very large, have a bay view, living room, feature a desk and a chair, there is a sofa bed, 37-inch HDTV, refrigerator, microwave, and Wi-Fi. The suites have a panoramic view of Casco Bay, king-sized bed, and the living area is completely separate. There are also accessible rooms, which are for guests with mobility, or special needs concerns. The hearing accessible room has visual alarms, king bed, ergonomic chairs, notification devices for the door knock, and calls. The king mobility room is larger due to the bathtub in the bathroom. Grab bars are in the tub with seating and lowered vanity in the bathroom and lowered shelving. There are also suites for those with mobility concerns too. This hotel has evening room service and on-site catering too, Port 65 is the kitchen and bar that guests may order from between 5 PM- 9:30 Pm every night. Portland has many things to offer. 7.4 Good
Pros: Rooms are very nice and comfortable.
Cons: For the price I would like to see a simple complimentary breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely wonderful staff from the valet parking to the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Professional yet friendly.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Was in Portland for one night and wanted to stay in Old Port to enjoy the sights, sounds and seafood! The hotel is welcoming and beautiful. The rooms are very nice and the staff was great. The location was very convenient to some of my favorite places in the area including Gilbert's Chowder House, LeRoux (retail) and of course, the waterfront. View from my harbor view room was outstanding.
Cons: My only complaint was that for the steep room rate, breakfast was extra. I booked through American Express travel and am a Platinum card member. Seems like a cup of coffee and a bagel isn't a whole lot to ask for when I've spent $450 for the room.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Other than the fire alarm issue the stay was very comfortable.
Cons: We were there for a medical reason. Went to bed early but a homeless person was able to get to the fire alarm and pull it. We had to evacuate & couldn't get back to sleep. That issue needs to be addressed so it doesn't happen again.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service from their front desk staff.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great, it was very clean, on the edge of the Old Port, the pool right downtown.
Cons: There isn't an option for parking for free ANYWHERE near the hotel, so valet is literally your ONLY option for overnight. Other hotels in the downtown have free parking overnight relatively close, Hilton has none. I splurged for a nice room for my son and I to have a special time, but had no clue I'd be paying extra 20% after I arrived, all to leave my car there and then have to uber everywhere or tip someone to get my car out of a garage that was right there and I could have parked in myself. It's an unnecessary and expensive "luxury" to have valet, that I neither needed or wanted. Also, terrible water pressure, and a crappy parking lot view. Day's Inn may not be right in town, but it's less than half the price, has free parking, free WiFi, a pool, WAY better water pressure, and pretty much the same breakfast...guess I'm cheap, sorry.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Room, staff, breskfast. Proximity to Standard Bakery Lication.
Cons: Valet parking is good but expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Downtown.

8.2 Excellent
Pros: Unable to use my aaa or aarp discounts that cost me 30 dollars extra because I did not call the hotel first.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, all recently renovated. The bathroom was a nice size. The free breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, eggs (scrambled or omelets) bacon or sausage (it varies from day to day). There are also waffle makers available. The staff was always helpful and friendly.
Cons: The tub! For some reason, the bottom of the tub is weirdly contoured and very uncomfortable to stand in when you take a shower. The other major problem was the mattresses. When I or my girlfriend moved, it traveled to the other, causing a never ending chain of shifting in order to get comfortable. We ended up sleeping in separate beds, since both mattresses had the same issue. They need to upgrade the mattresses to ones with independent coils. One last minor thing, the only table in the room, is where the coffee maker is placed, it's set against the wall like a desk. We could fit our laptop there but nothing else. In other hotels we've stayed at there's usually a little free standing table with a couple of chairs where you can sit with drinks or snacks.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the room and the contemporary decore. But I was most impressed by the helpful and professional front desk staff. I'll definitely look for another Courtyard by Marriot for my next trip.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: I'm not a particularly frequent traveler, but I've stayed at several Courtyards around the country, and every one was clean, pleasant, and comfortable.
Cons: No complaints.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room great bed!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were great and we appreciated having the choice between soft or firmer pillows.
7.7 Good
Pros: Very clean and easy access to the Maine Mall and airport. Also, Sebago Brewing Company is a two minute walk.
Cons: No room service, and a sub-par bistro.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect. Quick trip to downtown Portland. Comfy beds. Clean. Quiet. Laundry facilities. Starbucks on site. Beautiful courtyard. Friendly staff. Excellent stay. Highly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, tons of amenities, beautiful room, convenient shuttle to airport (PWM), overall a great place to stay.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and courteous staff. Comfortable beds and pillows. Rooms were well appointed. The pool area was nice.
Cons: I do wish they included breakfast in their rates. Almost $30 for breakfast (2 of which were kids meals - cereal/milk/banana) is a bit much. It was tasty though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice modern clean I really enjoyed it.

7.7 Good
Pros: I loved the location and the hotel/room was very clean.
Cons: There was a continuous noise above the bed. It sounded like a pipe clanging. Thank goodness for the sound machine feature on the alarm clock. Also, the bed was very firm with starchy sheets. The terry cloth robe had a large rip in it as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A nice clean comfy traditional room. Staff was friendly and the location was great.
6.8 Good
Pros: Great location. The spa was good.
Cons: Our room was on the first floor and it sounded as though every toilet in the building was directly above us.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location in downtown Portland - a very short walk to the wharf and local restaurants/pubs
Cons: A bit pricy, but it's in line with other hotels in the area.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I am a female and was travelling alone to see my son. I got my room and from then on, felt comfortable, secure, close to conveniences and within walking distance to great shops, restaurants and more. I was also given the gift of a spa treatment while there, and that experience was heavenly! The dining room was decorated for Christmas and was absolutely lovely! I was also quite comfortable eating alone here, with a seat by a warming fire. I will be returning to Portland shortly, and would like my same room and experience. Loved it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: location
Cons: would have enjoyed a fridge and coffee maker in room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, rooms and service
Cons: The weather
9.7 Excellent
Pros: All of the staff - from valets to room service, desk clerks to lounge staff, housekeeping to spa staff - were friendly, knowledgeable, professional
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Walking distance to the old port and lots of restaurants and bars. A great stay.
7.0 Good
Pros: The room service staff and valet were super friendly and extremely helpful. Other than that, it was a horrible experience...not a bit relaxing!
Cons: I work in the hospitality industry, so I know what great service is. When I got there, the TV wasn't even plugged in...then I went out with some friends, came back to a dark room, and when I tried to turn on the lamps on the side tables, I found that neither of them were plugged in. It was as if the room hadn't been used in months! When I called the front desk to complain, the woman at the front desk blew it off like it was no big deal! I ordered room service at 8:30 in the morning (which was great) and then put the do not disturb sign on the door. Well evidently it was irrelevant...I had fallen back asleep after I ate my breakfast, then at 10:30 I got a call from housekeeping seeing if I was still there...she didn't even apologize for waking me up, but at 11 I got a knock on my door from housekeeping! Check out was at 12, and I felt very rushed! For the money I spent, it was a horrible experience! I will never go back, and I will spread the word about my awful experience.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I liked the historical nature of the building, and the architectural details. I found the hotel to be big on comfort, cleanliness, and friendly and helpful staff. Loved the complimentary coffee delivered to your room in the morning, much nicer than having to make substandard coffee in the room. The Mill St. restaurant on the premises has wonderful food and a lovely ambience. I didn't take advantage of any of the spa offerings, so I can't comment on those.
Cons: It would be helpful for rooms to have a small fridge. The lighting in my room was not great for reading, but the huge windows let in a lot of natural light. The internet was painfully slow. I didn't understand the need for the valet parking, since the lot was just across the street, and I would have happily parked on my own and walked over. But it was inexpensive, $12, so this is not really a complaint, just an observation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyone at the hotel was so nice and went above and beyond to be helpful. The location is perfect right in the center of the city. There are so many great restaurants just around the corner. I also really enjoyed the spa at the hotel. The facilities are very relaxing and everyone that works there can help you figure out exactly what you need. We had a great stay and will definitely be coming back.

Cons: Night time noise can be disruptive to light sleepers
9.4 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a high floor king, the view was awesome from a huge window. The double shade was great for sleeping in.
Cons: I thought the bed was pretty hard compared to what we sleep on at home.

Pros: The room
Cons: Breakfast Parking fee
7.7 Good
Pros: My husband and I stayed there for our first night away after having a newborn. Overall the hotel was clean and modern and comfortable. The location is very convenient for multiple choices for dinner and cocktails.
Cons: Unfortunately we had a room facing Fore street right across the street from the bars. We visited on a weeknight and the noise was still pretty loud coming from the streets at 1 am. I was initially pretty frustrated after being woken up at 1 AM... But then I discovered that there is a fan in the room that can be turned on and it drowns out the noise from the streets. my only recommendation would be adding some sort of white noise option for the guests to drown out the noise from the bars

Pros: Location is close to harbor yet far enough away to avoid all the noise from Commercial Street. Lots of good restaurants/bars within walking distance such as Fore Street, Duckfat, Street and Company, Vena's, Gritty's and more. Free breakfast.
Cons: Parking isn't free - $15 per night.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Big spacious clean room in an excellent location. Close to all the dining, drinking, shopping in Old Port.
Cons: There was some construction going on on the floor, rooms being redone, the halls were dusty and smelled from this work, also the wireless connection was very iffy.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: I loved the staff, they where friendly and very helpful in giving me directions around town and what cool things to check out. I was not expecting the hotel to have a shuttle service that took me wherever I wanted to go downtown, and the driver was super friendly. My room was incredible, well lit, well decorated with a bag of popcorn waiting for me. I all around enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was good.
Cons: I paid extra for the "seaside" suite - this does not mean it is a view of the ocean. It means it's on the seaside but that your view will be of a fish manufacturing plant. I was a little disappointed that I spent an extra $30 to stare are a fishery.

Pros: Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet.
Cons: View of a parking garage. Sink did not drain. Breakfast was fair.

Pros: Very comfortable bed and large rooms.
Cons: Near a brewery that gave off odors that were not that pleasant.

Cons: What was not to like!
