9.5 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience was wonderful. We arrived early evening and walked around little. Sadly, the fish trio was not available but the ham and eggs was great. Maybe too much for eating rather late and so my breakfast was affected!!!! The locality is extremely pretty and interesting. It was a shame we could not spend more time here. Next time!!!!
Cons: Had to leave too early!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, we had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere, couldn't fault anything
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Location right on the harbour. It was the view from the terrace that sold it to us - lovely place to sit with a drink in the evening. Excellent breakfast cooked to order. Evening meals good too. Air conditioning was useful as too noisy with the window open. Parking was arranged at another pub nearby, which was quite handy.
Cons: Bedroom was small and cramped and decor rather outdated, particularly compared to the bar area. No view at all from our room. We had asked for a quiet room but it was above the kitchen so a lot of banging trays of cutlery at all hours. Sadly the only time there was space on the terrace was when the weather was bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely, and were very helpful. For example, my waitress in the restaurant recommended fish with fewer chips and a salad, which wasn’t on the menu, and suited me better! The rooms were lovely and clean, comfy bed and spotless bathroom. Delicious Eggs Benedict for breakfast too (excellent breakfast menu). Fresh milk was on offer too for in-room tea and coffee.
Cons: Nothing really. Steps up to the rooms, but I had help with my case, so it was fine.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was kept really clean. We liked the updates to the downstairs since our last stay 2 years ago
Cons: The breakfast finished a bit early, we would have preferred a more relaxed time perhaps 10 or 10.30 at the weekends.

We loved having the use of the hot tub as well . Met some wonderful people and had a relaxing stay. We would definitely go back to Lower barns.
Cons: Having to leave
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location 5 min drive from Mevagissey. Beautiful gardens and rooms. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely, clean super king size bed. Host are very welcoming and hospitable and leave you to your own devises. Breakfast is great, fruit, yoghurt, granola, full English, smoked fish ect. Kid friendly we took our 7 month old boy and he loved it and the hosts were very affectionate towards him. Accomadation lay out is perfect it's not like most b&bs where you have room with in a building. You have you own individual building and fenced garden with no one over looking you.
Cons: Freestanding bath could do with a shower curtain and shower head rail as there's no were to place it when the showers is on. Bathroom double doors need easing as they don't shut very well ( dragging on floor).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great find, comfy, quiet, friendly, we will be back.
Cons: A more relaxed option for an evening meal on site would be good, but appreciate that this isn’t easy to offer and manage effectively in this smaller type of location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and great owners.
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was superb and location is idyllic.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful little touches in the room such as homemade cake and plenty of toiletries. Colourful and vibrant gardens and interior. Mike and Janie were so friendly and it was so lovely chatting to them. They made our stay really special and one we will remember. Breakfast was delicious!
Cons: Our room was a little too hot on a summers night and the fan was too noisy to use whilst sleeping. I’m sure this wouldn’t be a problem most of the year round.

Cons: Nothing. The accomodation was excellent
6.8 Good
Pros: not as advertised although what we had was pleasent , there was no bacon sausages beans offered, on advert it showed an afternoon tea, there was no mention of this.
Cons: After reading the book in our bedroom on details of our stay, and i quote if make up was found on towels a heavy cleaning charge of up to £50 was imposed, also a charge for any staining on carpets ( people do have accidents as there was tea & coffee facilities in room ) it put us very on edge, we are both OAPs and very careful and respectful.

Pros: The property was very nice , like the staff. Food was very good. Plenty of parking is a bonus.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I stayed at the Waterwheel Inn for 7 nights, I had also managed to book a downstairs bedroom, which was very useful as we are not young anymore. The choice at breakfast was very good, being there for 7 breakfasts we didn't always have the full english, but had more sensible food. Had dinner in the restaurant on several nights, and enjoyed it all.
Cons: Can't think of anything
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Gardens where very nice
Cons: Having to drive to the harbours etc as not good walkers
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We visited St Austell for a friends family party and fancied staying somewhere different. On-line we found The Waterwheel for the same sort of money as as a well known motel chain and thought what the heck we'll give it a go! We are so pleased we did, what a wonderful find, Mark and Francesca couldn't of made us more welcome, the location is idedilic and the food was heavenly (albeit breakfast was totally sinful!) The Waterwheel is packed with carachter and has retained much of its old world charm. Needless to say we enjoyed our find and we will definately be returning, thank you Mark and Francesca for a wonderful weekend.
Cons: As stated above, what's not to like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed staying in the modern facilities and liked the garden setting. The meals were delicious.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! I felt carried from the moment I arrived until I left. Service was outstanding from all personnel. Location is spectacular. Large outdoor and indoor pools plus jacuzzi and saunas. Food was divine. Really big breakfast. The set menu at night is excellent value and I had one of the best desserts of my life - chocolate panna cotta with orange sorbet. Delicious! The room was beautiful with very comfy bed had one of my best nights sleep ever. Literally could not have been any better. My best ever holiday. We plan to come back many times. Thank you everyone!
Cons: Literally the only thing I would change is to have cucumber sandwiches with the afternoon tea.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! It was all fabulous
Cons: Nothing
7.0 Good
Pros: The decoration in the room was elegant and cosy, size of the bed was good, cleanliness was excellent, Spa facilities were nice, the doorman was friendly and helpful, Spa bar was good, I absolutely loved the treatment I received from Amy at the Spa & Beauty Salon, as she is an absolute gem, very friendly, professional, and customer-oriented, the cleaning staff was friendly, and Nigel at reception was helpful. Chocolate mints on the pillow were nice.
Cons: This was supposed to be a nice end of our trip for my birthday weekend in Cornwall. We arrived and the car park was full, although we had indicated on our booking that we needed a parking spot - thanks to our car being very small, we were allowed to squeeze in. Then, we were given keys to our room and found that we had a horrid view facing the car park - this felt more like something you'd see in a Motel! When we asked to change they said they were fully booked. The bathroom did not meet the high standards displayed on the booking website images - it looked very outdated in a 90s style, something you'd expect in an old person's house rather than a luxury hotel - very basic and more like something you'd see in a B&B. There was also a damp stain on the ceiling of the bathroom and signs of wear and tear on the side of the bathtub. All night there was noise from an extractor fan outside our window. Room was at the very end of the corridor and near the service cupboards, so the noise from the cleaners woke my partner up early in the morning. The Spa was supposed to be a relaxing place, while it felt more like a playground for kids, who were very noisy and jumping in the pool, while there were signs that this was not allowed, no member of staff were there to uphold these rules. The kids were even shouting and splashing in the whirlpool and going into the sauna. Changing rooms were very basic and didn't live up to a luxury hotel's or even gym's standard. When trying to get a table in the restaurant we were told all was booked until 8pm. We had not even been notified at check in, that booking was required. By the time we got to that restaurant they had no Fillet Steak left, which was pretty much the only appealing thing on the menu for me, as I am intolerant to sea food, which dominated the menu. So we drove 15-20 minutes to eat elsewhere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spa and Restaurant
Cons: None
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location
Cons: My daughter had to move room after one night- she was told that we should have been informed on check in which we were not- the staff didn’t deal with the situation very well
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the sea view accompanied by a beautiful landscape garden/ grounds of this art deco hotel. Greeted by courteous and smiling faces at reception and generally from efficient staff on duty. The single room as a solo traveler was clean with sufficient drawers for storage. Slept well, bed very comfortable. The bathroom was basic, clean and small. The facilities and amenities good with some elegant fittings (loved the stained glass window at front of the hotel) within the hotel, a delight. Breakfast in a grand dining room overlooked the sea which was pleasant with the food being fine and variable. The hotel is well located and near many Cornwall villages/coves and just outside St Austell. Ample car parking provided within the grounds. As a bonus to an already beautiful part of the world, it was lovely to walk around the hotel grounds to see the surrounding huge influx of fully blossomed hydrangea bushes which took my breath away! I'll be back!
Cons: Claustrophobic bathroom. No-fault of the hotel, I did arrive for the hottest day of the year (July 2019) but it was about 25 degrees less in this southwestern part of the UK, compared to the southeast. It did feel cold. Some people would like but I didn't appreciate, as I couldn't sit outside as much as I would have wished, although you can do so in the adjacent drawing room/bar.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean. Bed comfortable. Good choice of teas. Good service. Very good shower

Pros: Staff are high class, in specific "Alison" with her constant smile and light soul. Very professional and warm welcoming. Room was clean and prepared for us. Breakfast is time scheduled. Meaning you give a rough time of when you would like to join for breakfast. This way they avoid having too many people at certain times.
Cons: Parking is a bit small but very quiet and secure.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Needed to move Bedroom due to - Car park at First Floor being at window level so no privacy. Needs slatted blinds as you would not wish to close curtains during daylight hours. Also car headlights when turning, shone straight into Bedroom. Hotel manager after first night, arranged different room on same side, but at the end of building, and this the 'best possible' room, as it had a window in the Bathroom.
Cons: Could be improved with a Swimming Pool. Beach was very deep in seaweed, so could not get near water.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location perfect,The staff were brilliant especially in the bar and restauraunt. Food in the restaurant was of excellent choice and quality. Superb outside relaxing areas

Pros: A purse was left in the room and was never found and also staff accusing me of not paying for the room and made me feel distressed and alarmed and intimidated
Cons: Staff, room and view
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very obliging. They suggested places to eat since their restaurant was not operating. Very quiet apart from the room phone which had the alarm set for 3.30am. Perhaps a previous guest had set this but it was a bit of a shock. Overall a lovely place to stay. The room had a fridge which was much appreciated since we were on a road trip. We didn't have breakfast but it looked lovely.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was a little walk from the rail station (about ten minutes) over cobblestone roads (a little steep) and so a bit of a struggle particularly if you have large luggage. However once you know your bearings, it takes less than ten minutes to walk to the rail station/bus stop. We walked to Charlestown and it took perhaps a little over half an hour. We took the bus back at night and it was five minutes or so. Our room was very big and spacious and away from the main house with our own entrance and so we have lots of privacy. Breakfast was good and we were invited to look around the garden outside the house.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The host was lovely, the bed was comfy and hearty breakfast.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. Breakfast was also very good.
Cons: No complaints .
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good situation. Very obliging and friendly hostess.
Cons: Clean but rather old fashioned and tired decor (although an excellent shower!)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We received a very friendly greeting from Li. I had told her I was arriving by motorcycle and she offered to put it in the garage for safekeeping. Our room was spacious and although it was facing the road, it was very quiet. Great breakfast
Cons: The bed, although comfortable, was soft and we ended up rolling towards each other.
6.3 Good
Pros: the bed was comfortable
Cons: On arrival myself and my elderly mother were struggling a bit with our suitcases. It didn't occur to either of the two owners to offer any assistance, they literally let her struggle slowly up the stairs with it, and i couldn't help because my hands were full. An atrocious way to be met. It was actually unbelievable. The small bedroom is totally dominated by a triple wardrobe which is fully mirrored. Awkward! The bedroom has a heavy sash window with two tiny finger hooks far apart with which to lift it. It is back-twistingly difficult to open it even a couple of inches.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, spotless and very comfortable. Extremely pleasant and helpful hostess and Daughter.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The English breakfast prepared is amazing. The best English stay experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large room and bathroom and very comfortable bed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bankside is in the perfect situation for St Austell, easy to find and within easy walking distance of local facilities. The family are very friendly and helpful, and even gave me a full- English breakfast at 6.30 so I could get an early start. Nothing is ever to much trouble. I have used Bankside a couple of times now, and definitely recommend!!!
Cons: Nothing could be improved, its perfect.

Pros: Good central location for the village. Friendly helpful staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was superb. Very friendly and informative staff. Excellent location, right in the centre of town!
Cons: Possibly a comfortable armchair in the bedroom?
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were really welcoming and friendly. Patrons and residents all seemed to get on well. No noise came up from the bar (or the kitchen which was next door on the first floor too) which was good! Breakfast was nice and simple but pleasant and tasty. Room was clean and maintained daily by the owner herself doing the hoovering etc. If anything ran out or needed sorting it was managed immediately. The room felt very clean, tastefully decorated and well maintained, and the bed was VERY comfortable!!! A very nice stay thank you.
Cons: Sorry to say that one or two things could have been better. A kettle was provided but unable to fit under the tap, so necessitated going downstairs to the bar in order to refill water bottles to fill the kettle. Not a huge issue but no towel rail in Bathroom, just one hook behind the door, and then a radiator in the bedroom. Suggestion, please remove the bathroom shelf and affix it on the other side of the sink - ensuring that people can get their head to the sink when brushing their teeth without banging their head against the glass! Things that cannot be helped... Noisy Seagulls!!! Noisy people vaping or smoking outside the window and sharing their entire conversations with us trying to sleep at 11pm Very noisy busy street - it is the high street after all!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Problem with booking...which stated 3 seperate beds..turned out to be 2...staff dealt with it efficiently..very friendly staff..excellant position for mevagissey

6.3 Good
Pros: The people ate very welcoming especially Elizabeth and Matt
Cons: WiFi don’t work in your room Shower is impossible to figure out with very low pressure, it was either extremely cold or extremely hot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are so welcoming at The Ship Inn, nothing was too much trouble. It felt very homely and relaxed. The room was clean and aired with lovely bedding and towels. Our room was quirky and just how it should be for a building of that age, with uneven floors and low ceilings. The breakfast was amazing and the tea and coffee facilities abundant. We have never stayed above a pub before as have always gone for hotels, but we will certainly return to The Ship Inn as it is so close to amenities and provides a great range of evening meals. Even though it doesn't have it's own parking, this wasn't an issue as we parked in the large carpark as you enter the village. Thank you to the lady (I'm afraid we didn't get your name) who served us breakfast each morning and for your advice at breakfast to walk to Gorran Haven, the views were stunning, we hope you get to sunny climates soon. Can't wait to return!
