7.5 Good (266 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Gravesend, Shamrock Guest House is within a 15-minute drive of Bluewater Shopping Centre and Rochester Cathedral. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
7.0 Good
Pros: 1) I liked the price and the fact that I was put in a reasonably large double bedroom (with ensuite facilities). 2) I also liked the fact that the property was within easy walking distance of the town centre (and the imposing clock tower).
Cons: 1) The immediate views from Shamrock Guest House (and from the bedroom window) are not attractive, in my opinion. The surrounding area is mainly residential, but I do not remember seeing any nice public parks or other amenities nearby. 2) Being on a busy main road (although I recognise that this has certain advantages as well)....

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely atmosphere in the bar on the Friday night, helped by live music. Evening meal very good, with friendly bar staff. Bedroom newly decorated, and well furnished (albeit odd to not have a second bedside table, just one equal distance between the two beds). Good sized car park off of the Main Street. Lovely village shop adjacent to the pub.
Cons: Minor point, but oddly no mirrors in either bedroom or en suite. Outside staircase to the bedrooms won’t suite everyone, but fine for me.

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The man who seemed to be the only person I saw from last night to check out next morning. He was very nice but it's obvious he's struggling.
Cons: The hotel seems to be a one man run business. Possibly passed down family route. No hot water in the morning. For £79.00 I would have expected breakfast at least even if dinner was not provided. The rooms could have been cleaner and more up-to-date. I feel they are struggling financially and revamping is hard in these times. They would need to upgrade to get more custom. I would not return unless they upgraded. Lovely guy at reception but he needs help. I was left 45 minutes as he had to pop out and left a back in 5 minutes sign. No phone in my room so could not get help with the no hot water situation in my room. Taxi driver said to stick to known names. I think I will have to do so in future.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The hotel was in a great location for the town and the rooms were spotless. Bed was comfortable and it was in a quiet location.
Cons: When I arrived I was told the restaurant was closed that evening, although I was later informed it would be open (after I had made other plans). The room was very cold when I arrived and the shower was barely usable, there was no water pressure and the shower head was broken.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The two gentlemen who were at the reception when I checked in and checked out were very polite. They did call in advance to see if I wanted to eat at the onsite restaurant.
Cons: It is very run down. Taxidermy animals, and piles of old books and bric-a-brac. The room was supposedly quiet but I could hear the neighbouring room and their flatulence. The thermostat dial fell off when used. The bathroom was in dire need of repair, the shower offering a trickle of water, and the taps almost impossible to turn off without a wrench. No plug sockets near the beds, to any electronic device you needed couldn't be on the bedside whilst charging.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and super helpful staff. The hotel was quiet. Our room was tidy and clean. We felt very welcome.Would come back again.
6.3 Good
Pros: It’s a beautiful building.

6.3 Good
Pros: Location Hotel I've stayed in before but not for sometime, as usual the staff were good.
Cons: Very small room
7.1 Good
Pros: Location, parking, great staff, good breakfast, clean rooms, acess to nearby shops and restaurants. Despite the negative comments that follow I would gladly return. I was very impressed with the assistance afforded to us by the staff - thank you.
Cons: It may be just our room but the bathroom was smelling damp - needs drain cleaner I think. The room (27) was small. We had a second room - accross the road that was much roomier. I will in future speak to hotel on booking to get a better room. Too much 'lowlife' hanging about in the streets outside - perhaps the chain needs to complain to the local Police about the drug users in the locale.

3.7 Mediocre
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice and included in the price. The price of the room was very affordable for London. The guests were mostly families on vacation.
Cons: The picture of the hotel is only one of the buildings they have. I was put across the street in a converted old home (which is normal for London) but the room was tiny; if I was a heavier person I could have hardly fit. The neighborhood is mostly Pakistani and very diverse; no problem there, however lots of men hanging out in the streets late at night. The train into central London does not run on weekends so I had to take a long bus ride. I don't think I would stay there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All of it
Cons: Nothing, was amazing

Cons: Bathroom to small and east the handle needs repair
4.0 Okay
Cons: Very bad smell inside the room and toilet
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast in the room . Very welcoming staffs. Very competitive price and free parking.
Cons: I stayed at room 19. Was very annoyed at aroumd mid night till 3am. This is the second time I stayed here and unfortunately both occasions I Could not sleep properly because of the noise coming from next door and upstairs and corridor during midnight till around 3am. Travellers where talking very loud while walking to the corridor and opening and shutting doors very loudly Without thinking about time and other travellers. I think this is the only and the major negative side of this hotel. staying in a very competitive and well priced hotel comes with all sorts of selfish unconsiderable travellers too. Apart from disturbances at night everything else was excellent.
6.0 Good
Pros: The room was very quiet.
Cons: The TV in my room didn't have good reception so I couldn't watch anything.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Sort of close to the subway, nice staff.
Cons: Sheets were not cleaned at all and had dirt/sweat stains all over the sheets, shower was moldy, outlets in walls did not work properly, tv did not work, card reader barely worked, bad area of London, and very thin walls.

Pros: Comfortable beds nice and snug .
Cons: There's nothing to complain about all great .

8.2 Excellent
Cons: My room did not have a window, only a little sky light. Breakfast was sub standard
4.2 Okay
Pros: The staff was lovely and accommodating when I needed tickets printed or in trying to find a parking space.
Cons: We didn't get towels on the first night even though we checked in well past midnight and had to leave early the next morning. The room needs a dehumidifier because it has a pungent damp smell upon entry and there is no flow of air in there.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and happy atmosphere
Cons: Nothing, all good
3.7 Mediocre
Pros: The staff was friendly. That's about it.
Cons: To keep things simple: -The card reader on the door was broken. -The remote didn't work. -The air conditioner didn't turn on until nearly three hours after it should have. -The room smelled like smoke and dust. -The bathroom smelled like a combination of sewer and mold. -There was mold all over the shower and wooden stand in bathroom. (Ended up not even showering.) -There was a hole in the floor where the pipe led to the sewer, where I'd imagine much of the smell was coming from. Had to keep the bathroom door closed whenever possible and hold my breath when entering. Wouldn't recommend unless you're on a super tight budget and don't mind being a bit uncomfortable.

Pros: I paid a very reasonable price and the hotel was worth what I paid. I was on a short overnight stop for business and would certainly book the hotel again for this circumstance. It would not be for me if I was taking a vacation.
Cons: Very slow heavy traffic leaving the trading estate on which it was located and I suspect this would be the same at every rush hour.

Cons: Everything is awful! From Staff to Cleanliness and Comfort everything is horrible! In reception i was charged twice for the same room. I booked the room using the website and i paid with my card but when i got there i've been charged again. The receptionist seamed not to understand how this online payments work, so she asked me to pay again for the room. I insisted for a refund but it was a difficult to get it. I had my money refunded only the next day. I won't recommend this place!

Pros: Location
Cons: The rooms had dirty carpets and the beds weren’t comfortable at all. Everybody Had sleepless nights as we booked two rooms which were on three different floors . As family We expected to be next to each other . As guest we were given the room keys and just directed to our rooms no personal service . The reception staff weren’t welcoming and didn’t feel that they were approachable.Tea and coffee u had to pick it up from reception yourself. Main problems was that they had council provided guests (those seeking council property) staying as well . Where the car was parked it had milk stains on the car??

4.2 Okay
Pros: I was there for a wedding so that was good.
Cons: Despite paying quite a bit for the room, I still had to pay parking (which is normally free when staying in other hotels) the water in the room was £5 and looked like tap water. Breakfast was £10 per head. Basically you had to pay for everything on top of an already over priced room. The room was dark and gloomy and the bed was uncomfortable. Every time you moved in bed it rustled like I was sleeping in a pvc bag. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep and wasn't to impressed. I would take a premier inn over the Hilton any day of the week. Would I stay again? No.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. Room was nice too and clean. Bathroom was satisfactory. The biggest highlight of my stay was the massage by Jas and for that, I would consider coming back - but only for her massage.
Cons: I was booked into the hotel for my birthday by my friend. He pre-paid for the birthday package - which was for my room to be done up with birthday banners and a birthday cake. I was really looking forward to this. However, when I checked in, I was told that the staff forgot to do up the room. The front desk staff who told me this offered no apologies and said it so casually. I was really disappointed. He said the money would be refunded, offered me 2 vouchers for a free drink at the hotel bar - which was pointless to me as I was going out for dinner anyway and free parking - £6. I was looking forward to my birthday cake and the banners. This really ruined my stay and I was even more disappointed at how blase the hotel staff was. A simple apology would have gone a long way as opposed to being mechanical.
