Service and helpful staff Shower curtain let bathroom floor get soaked
The hotel was convenient for access, relaxed and comfortable. The breakfasts we very good and the evening meal was tasty and well presented. In keeping with most hotels the drinks were expensive. The room was very hot at night and the nearby fire door made an annoying noise, although fortunately not too often. It turned out the ratiator was jamed on, which we reported.
The grounds are lovely, it was such a relaxing place to be Oh yes, the food was terrible, the chef needs to redo the whole menu,,everything was soaked in rosmary, you cannot have a simple dish everything is thrown together useing cheap ingrediants, and does not work,,like cheap steak with liver pate, and some kind of red gravey,,with rosmary,,give you an idea???
The staff were friendly and helpful The decor was a little jaded
Staff deflected our complaints with skill and patience, moved us on request Overpriced and shabby, mediocre food, uncomfortable beds with cheap linen. And right on a busy A road, despite the rustic name...
The compact and comfortable bar, with a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Having to pay for accommodation on arrival, then having to settle up other bills on departure. Payment on departure is the way this should be done; payment on arrival shows lack of trust.
Staff reasonably helpful. Breakfast one very good. one fair only. Room very tired. Loo loose on it's mountings. bulbs out. No heat available.
the swimming pool, check-out late in the morning
Although I did not like being worken in the middle of the night I was there during the time the hotel had a fire and I would like to say the staff handlled the situation very well and were really organised they made the guests feel very safe in what could have been a really bad experience
Dinner was nice The bedspread was disgustingly stained, the floor vibrated due to the kitchen extractor fan. The night club kept us awake until 2.30am. the guests woke us at 3.45 am.
It was clean, functional and everything that we required. The staff were pleasant & helpful. Good value for money. The nightclub was noticeable but didn't spoil our nights sleep.
The room was clean and tidy Was above a pub ! Staff didn't seem to know what was going on, told that breakfast was between 08:30 and 09:30 only to arrive in an empty dining room, when we finally found a member of staff, was told that breakfast didnt' start until 09:30
Accomodation was of an adequate standard nothing more I thought it was expensive for what it was.
Town centre location
The staff were nice and friendly and the room very clean and comfortable. The hotel was perfectly placed for my visit and the breakfast very tasty. There could be an information sheet in the rooms.. With such details as breakfast times. Emergency number in case needed.. ie lost key or problem with anything in the room..
Breakfast, Nice room Light bulbs not working
Good onsight facilities as you had pub with good pub food and nightclub below - if you want that sort of thing The coffee
Very comfortable bed. The directions for parking might have been confusing to someone who didn't realise that the hotel entrance was on the High Street but the parking was accessed from North Street. (NB question re reviews - can't remember what reviews were on the site for this hotel! Sorry.)
location was good for us night club little bit noisy
Too near a main raod
very welcoming, nice gardens
Excellent personal attention to my very particular breakfast needs - nothing was too much trouble for David the host, who was most obliging. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens
Very accomodating as we arrived very late, having broken down. Good quality food at breakfast. no
If you want a fine dining experience with wonderful personal service this is the Guest House for you. The best meal I have ahd in England in the 2 years we have lived here. I would go for the evening meal and service alone. We stayed in the cottage and it was nicely done. Small put that is the period small rooms It was very clean and excellent that wanted to cook a meal themselves
The staff are very friendly and chatty! Breakfast was wonderful! No hot water in the morning. The shower was very poor - either very hot or very cold
very nice welcome, helpful and courteous. The person who welcomed us even lent me an ipod charger that I needed. The room was clean and well equipped with a well positioned tv. Nice tea selection and minibar. The other person that we spoke to, who may have been the chef, was very rude. We had had dinner in Eastbourne, as I thought the hotel restaurant would already be fully booked (partly because no asked us whether we wanted to reserve), so when we got back at about 9pm, we thought it might be nice to have dessert, so asked politely if they could accomodate us. The chef said, "no certainly not", and walked off without another word. I was quite surprised, I do understand it's a set menu, but we had asked a perfectly polite and quite normal question, a courteous or friendly reply would have been appreciated. The bed was also hard as rock.
Excellent food and charming and helpful staff
Hotel decorated well and the owner was welcoming. The standard of food was good. Situated on busy, noisy a27 which made building shake. This prevented us opening a window, making the room rather stuffy. Staying in Room 1, all noise from the hall of guests leaving restaurant was clearly heard by us in our room. Small and dated shower cubicle.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, nice gardens The only, inescapable minus is the road noise
The whole package was great.
Excellent breakfast Good parking facilities in a small village
The staff were excellent as was the general service. The location is superb for walkers and places of interest. The information pack, in the rooms, provides numerous places of interest and ideas. A place to stay just for the pleasure of the hotel.
limited choice dinner menu r m 42 noisey fan ? running all night
Good standard hotel, wonderful location, excellent breakfast, evening meal very good but expensive. Our only dislike was that the lighting in the room was not very good.
The room was large and room service breakfast was excellent. The room was stuffy, mainly due to the feather pillows and old mattress.
Old-fashioned hotel with atmosphere, very attentive and helpful staff, full English breakfast included in the room rate, very good restaurant with an excellent chef. None really - the central heating is, as you would expect, a little out of date, but they are happy to give you an additional heater should you need one. An inconvenience is that the village does not receive most mobile phone signals, however, this can be a blessing in disguise if you are not on business.
Bags of character set in the centre of a proper, old world, English village. Excellent service, food superb. What more could you ask for.
First hotel that I have ever stayed at which didn't have a 'attraction' pack in the bedroom ie Where to go, What to see, What time is breakfast etc!
The hotel is set in a beautiful village and the restaurant and bar were very atmospheric. Food was good, well presented and good value for money It is not clear in any of the hotel publicity that the rooms are located in what can only be described as an ugly flat-roofed industrial unit; the rooms, while comfortable, are no different than any Travel Lodge or similar chain- a huge disappointment. The staff were perfunctory and lacked any genuine kindness
The location and the bedroom which was delightful, whilst small with a four poster bed. The dinner menu was good and whilst not the best we tasted on our holiday certainly passed the test for enjoyment and quality. The toast! It seems a daft thing to say but you can judge the quality of a hotel by its toast. The toast was lifeless and limp. Attention to such details is critical in the kitchen if the food is to live up to the overall quality of the hotel.
Home from home, well looked after and lovely staff. Cant fault a thing
Very comfortable lounge with open fire and very good cream tea.
The location was central to where we wanted to be. The hotel breakfast was good and they had a varied selection of food. The restaurant in the hotel which we used several times was very good. Service was very good throughout the hotel. The water pressure in the shower was poor during the morning 'busy' period between about 8- 8.30 which was a little inconvenient when the water virtually ceased to flow for 5 or 6 minutes. Not drastic just inconvenient.
Being accompanied by a dog it was the ideal venue. Both of us warmly welcomed. The staff were delightful and the accommodation was ideal. The Hotel is situated in an idyllic place just out of the village and right on the river bank. I will definately be back. The food was just above ok but not great. But I am a good cook and hypercrtical. Also I was in catering and know how difficult it is to maintain excellent food when you are busy one night and dead the next. And I didn't eat in the dining room only breakfast and bar meals.
Quiet and relaxing. There was mould at top of bath due to water from the shower. Otherwise no complaints...Room 16
Setting is lovely. Loved being able to walk through the picturesque village of Alfriston. Liked playing croquet. Liked being able to walk along the river just back of the hotel. Original room was over the terrace where voices and smoke came directly into our room. Requested room change and next day moved to room on ground floor overlooking garden--smaller room, but much quieter. Neither room was spacious enough to enjoy sitting in. Meals very expensive but dining room delightful. A mistake was made in our bill, charging us 40 pounds for tea but was corrected as soon as this was pointed out.
Setting of hotel and food.
The hotel is beautiful and set in a lovely village with plenty of walks round and about.
Helpful staff, peaceful location
Very good value
Friendly staff, good food, good beer, well equiped room, very clean and comfortable bed. Quite a bit of traffic noise, but we were in the room at front by road, but not enough to be an issue.
On arrival the reception was unmanned and I had to go into the bar to get someone to book us in and supply the room key etc
Lovely clean nicely decorated room. Noise from the bar below our room, very noisy until midnight.
The breakfast was superb, staff very welcoming, I was working away and felt that the staff took time to make me feel welcome
Although a major power cut caused a problem, the staff coped immediately with the situation A disco/karaoke was a try-out for the locals at their request which wasn't a great experience for the guests who weren't involved especially as our room was above the noise
The staff wre very welcoming, friendly, and could not do enough to help you. The hotel was very clean & the room was roomy. To be recomended.
The staff and the ambiance of a true English Country Inn were truely great! The room was well updated with a modern bathroom (good shower) and LCD TV. The traditional English breakfast (included) was very good. We had supper at the Inn and all ordered steaks... Unfortunately the quality of the meat was inferior and very chewy and gristly...I left more than half on the plate and given that I hadn't eaten in over 10 hours this speaks volumes.
the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food also the bed was suprisingly comfortable Disappointed there was no lift as my wife has difficulty with stairs
Friendly attitude of the staff. Large carpark always a plus. no
