My original request specifically asked for 7, due to needing room for 4 adults. 2 baby seats and of course luggage for 6 people. The car I was given was “same” class. Not sure how things are “classed” grouped together. , but we had already had an interesting conversation on the coverage on the car. I was treated like “you should read”. Let me tell you. After spending an incredible amount on insurance and given to see that you can’t fit with your family and luggage, it’s falling out the back. Had it stacked where we couldn’t see out the back window. Finally put two bags in with passengers. Since we did everything on the internet, which your website kept asking for the car rental fee, like starting from scratch. I thought I could resolve it at the desk, but agent really couldn’t understand that I was puzzled on another window that popped up as I was attempting to complete. If I was going to buy insurance, if I understood your website, since I was told to “read” your website and that’s all that mattered. Running out of space. I would never rent again. I called an UBER. We rented from chicago airport agreeing to return at Milwaukee. I explicitly asked the staff to confirm the return location at Milwaukee will be open at 4-5pm. Then I was surprised, the location was closed and no instructions for overnight return, no one answering calls at Hertz. I ended up returning at the next closest location which is the Milwaukee airport. Then I get a surprise bill of $450 instead of the negotiated rate of $160 on July 6. I am working to charge back that transaction with the credit card company. Hertz doesn't answer customer service calls anyway.Reviewed 26 Jul 2025

They added hidden fees and charged me for gas even though I had returned the tank with more than I left it with. You expect to pay a premium with Hertz so that you don’t have to deal with chasing their customer service. It is truly useless to have a smooth pickup process if it means that you’ll have to track them down later because they charged you the price you paid ahead of time over in fees. I have no complaints. The staff at the desk was friendly enough, there were three cars left in the zone/class that I had booked, and I picked one. The car was clean enough and nice enough, although with 40K+ miles it felt a bit... used. Still, a good car (Nissan Kicks), and perhaps a tad bigger than the class I had booked (compact), so I'm pretty happy with the car and the process.Reviewed 27 Dec 2021
