Ok car but horrible drop-off
Cons: We waited over 40 minutes for an agent to help one family when returning our car. Our return took less than one minute once we were seen. The agent helped the person in front of us go through every car in the lot, with its price, to determine which car they'd want to extend their rental with. When my husband pleaded that we were on our way to the airport and would be late, the agent was dismissive. The car was supposed to be the largest car one can get before an SUV but it wasn't very big and not comfortable.

Pros: Car was very comfortable for a 7.5 hour drive.
Cons: Car was mostly clean but some garbage was on the passenger side floor (empty bag of chips and plastic spoon). Pickup location in Chicago was very busy and the office is very small so there were a lot of people crammed into a small space - trying to form an organized line in the order that people entered the office was impossible - very awkward to wait.

Double check location
Cons: On Kayak I searched for car at O'Hare airport. Enterprise came up with a good price. When I arrived at Enterprise off airport location, they had no cars and I was told my rental was at another location 10 minutes away. They provided a taxi phone number. It was 45 with traffic in a cab. Upon arrival at location, car provided was dirty inside and out and had an unpleasant odor. The location added another 35 minutes to my drive to Milwaukee. My first lousy experience with Enterprise. These guys are usually good.

Wrong class of car
Pros: People were friendly
Cons: They gave me the wrong class of car for what I reserved and paid for. I questioned them at pickup and again at drop-off, and they insisted that it wasn't possible for their system to be wrong. Bu when I got home and checked my email for the reservation, they were wrong.

Cons: The upholstery in the car was completely stained and filthy. I asked if that was going to be an issue and the guy renting me the car said, "We don't care as long as it's not ripped." The drivers side floor mat had a huge tear in it and the service light was on the whole time (I found out that the car was due for an oil change when I returned it).
The guy who rented the car to me listed the gas tank volume to be basically empty on my rental forms. However, when I returned the car, they tried to charge me for not filling the gas tank since it was marked in the computer system as having 3/4 of a tank when I picked it up. I returned it with almost half a tank in it so needless to say, I wasn't too pleased. I will look to rent elsewhere from now on.

I went to Hertz instead
Pros: Nothing. I got there and they told me I needed an utility bill with my credit card in order to rent a car. I told Enterprise I just rented a car at Hertz and they didn't ask me for a utility bill and they still wouldn't let me rent a car so I walked to Hertz instead and I got a car for the same price that was even better. Enterprise is terrible.
Cons: Everything. Don't go to Enterprise, go to Hertz instead.

Pros: The employees were very courteous. When I accidentally rented a car in town rather than at the airport, the team gave me a partial refund of my drop off fee at the airport. They also gave the car to me with a half tank of gas so that I could return it without having to fill the tank.
Cons: I meant to pick up the car at O'Hare, but I somehow rented a car downtown. I blame myself for not being more careful, but I wish it was more clear where the car was located. Because it was the Christmas holiday, there were no more cars at the airport, so I had to spend a long time in a cab at rush hour to pick up my car. I called at my pick up time to tell them I would be late, but when I arrived they said the compact car wasn't available, so they gave me an upgrade. I liked the car, but my gas mileage wasn't as good and the car was dirty inside and outside.

Compensated for delay
Pros: I had a 9am reservation for the 23rd, the Friday before Christmas, and it was busy as could be expected. But my wait time was over 4 hours. Upon returning the car, I was credited two days of the rental, which I felt was fair and I was satisfied.
Pros: The mid size SUV (Nissan Rogue) was very comfortable, safe and easy to drive. It met our needs very well. We also appreciated the service received at the downtown Chicago rental center. The representative was very helpful in getting us started on our trip.

Declined CDW twice to counter person; ended up cha
Cons: Declined all coverages, including CDW, twice when asked by counter rental person. Did not look at contract once signed and printed; found out a daily collision damage waiver had in fact been put on contract. Tried to get adjusted; Dollar refused, saying I had signed it.
Strongly suggest making them say it all back, not just sign the electronic keypad. Won't be doing Dollar again.

They ripped me off.
Cons: We reserved a rental for Dec 21 through Dec 23rd back in October. The rental price for the 2 days was $97.00.We found out that we wouldn't be able to get the car back until 5pm instead of 12pm. When we picked up the car we told them that and expected to pay for the extra time. Instead of adding the 5 extra hours they cancelled our entire reservation and changed it to a same day reservation and charged us $400.00. We asked for an explanation and they said that was the way they do things. We will NEVER use them again.

Charged for 'express fuel'
Cons: Chicago Midway -- the rental itself was not very clean on the exterior and the paint was pretty beat up. That aside, pick up wasn't exactly pleasant, but... That's sort of the norm with some airports in my experience.
I was charged $15 over and above my original rate for something called 'express fuel.' My understanding is that if you use the car for less than 75 miles, regardless of the gas you put into it before returning, you are charged this rate. I don't have the slightest idea why they would encourage renters to put more miles on the car by punishing them if they drive <75mi, but that was the case for me. The aspect that bothered me most was that the attendant made no mention of this surcharge when I returned the vehicle. So yeah, topped off the tank, no damage to the vehicle, returned well before the time I rented it for, but still was charged for express fuel.
Cons: Upon pickup, poor customer service. When i got to the car i noticed scratches on the paint. I had to go downstairs and report it myself. Apparently it was already in the system and i wasnt even notified.

Poor Customer Service; Different Price than Kayak
Pros: Had 4 wheels.
Cons: On arrival, the customer service was poor, unhelpful and aggressively tried to get me to buy their insurance. Car was Okay not in best shape. Upon return there was long wait with only one attendee. Attendee gave different information than Kayak and previous attendee when car was picked up resulting in an addition $200 charge.

Pros: We loved the car it was perfect for our purpose.
Cons: When we arrived to pick up the car the gentleman at the counter was very pushy about the car we had rented as the smallest and worst car in the lot and that it was a managers special, and we should upgrade. We told no thank you several times, and finally had to say just give me the papers to sign please as we very tired arriving for reason of a family members death.
Additionally I did not like the fact that I still have not received a final statement in my e-mail as they were not open when we dropped the car off. If you are going to offer a rental service at the airport, please make sure you have the staff to complete the transactions. Not comfortable with the "unknown"

Cons: I tried to rent a car in Mexico from not just Hertz but other companies and the bottom line was that it was cheaper to buy a car there than to rent one. They all have great daily rates just that they all get you with insurance at a rate of about 500.0 and deposits of up to 2000.00 which is crazy! So travelers beware!

Chicago Midway Airport Hertz
Cons: Upon arrival in Chicago Midway Airport we clocked in at 1:28. We rented from 1pm two days before to 1 pm. On the drive in, I even called customer service to make sure that we had a half hour window before being charged an extra day of $62 plus. When our car was scanned in by a lady with an iPad at 1:28pm, I didn't see a problem until the girl at the counter said we would be charged another full day.
If it says 30 minutes, it needs to be 30 minutes. We asked to talk to a manager, she went to get one, and the same woman came out only to tell us that we would still owe another day charge. So we asked again to speak to the manager who wouldn't come out.
She was extremely short with me, I explained that I had just made the drive from New Orleans to Chicago to save money on flights, so $62 is a lot of money to me. Especially since I drove like hell to get there in time. Which I did. She told me she could do nothing about it as she didn't make the reservation. I pleaded with her and said it made no sense as it says we arrived at 1:28.
Out of nowhere, she begrudgingly took off the charge after having told us she had no way of doing so, clearly meaning that was a lie in the first place.
My complaint is how this was handled. And WHY it was handled like this! The manager had a sh*tty look on her face and we were treated like we were trying to get out of paying or something when we were IN the window of time. Very agitating experience and rude, I'm in customer service and would never talk to someone like that, lie to them or try and swindle another days charge for no reason.

Cons: I returned the car early (after just 1 day instead of 1 week as originally planned). The clerk explained that the computer wasn't working so she would send me an email with the final receipt. When I checked my emails a few hours later, I saw that she emailed me the receipt and it was for a full week rental rather than prorated for my 1 day rental. I called the local agency right away but the call was transferred to a national customer service office, and the person I spoke with said he would correct the mistake and email me the corrected receipt. Bin ever received it, so the next day I called the local agency again and spoke to the clerk, who then made the correction and sent an email with the correct amount billed. So a lot of extra effort and time needed on my part to fix their mistake.

Cons: We reserved a cat from ohare, we picked up the car from ohare and we returned the car to ohare. My quote was 372. We returned the car with no damage and a full gas tank and were charged 722. They claim they quoted me as renting the car from midway airport and then returning it to midway airport. There is no other explanation except they try to rip you off and hope you don't look at the recipt until it's too late. After arguing with a very rude agent for 40 min we got a manager who was professional but clueless. After about 90 min we had to go or else we would miss our flight home. We had to settle paying 480. Over a hundred dollars more than we should have. Have rented several cars before from other services and have never had a problem. Will rent from ohare airport many more times but will never at any location rent from Budget/Avis.

Don't Trust Customer Service
Pros: Got a much larger and more useful vehicle for essentially the same price as a regular mini van rental.
Cons: Spoke to two separate customer service reps to verify that my age (24) would not prevent me from receiving the vehicle I had reserved. Was told that the location I chose would have no problem accommodating me and would allow that. When I showed up to get my mini van, I was told no and had to get the branch manager involved to make an exception. Then they didn't have any mini vans so I was given a 12 passenger van. Not an issue but I had to re-purchase the insurance after I had already paid for insurance on my initial rental, was already too late to have it refunded.

Budget is the way to go

Cons: The O'hare return center did not have a gas station close. This is not a poor reflection on Budget. Just wish there was a gas station near the return.
Cons: Very tired of rental car check in counter employee tacking on "optional" charges. I want exactly what I reserved. Nothing more, nothing less for the price at which I reserved the rental. If I didn't want insurance when I reserved the car I do not want it now. Bait and switch.
Also, my car seat would not adjust so hopefully they will fix that for future customer. I took it "as is" only because it took me 40 minutes to get my rental car and it was 1 am in the morning and had an hour drive to hotel.

Cons: I was supposed to get a specialty car and was given a compact. I questioned it and was told that was not the case that this was a specialty car. Most defiantly not. When arriving the parking garage there was a line of cars in front of me with a sign over them that said specialty cars. Then I was really upset. Being out of cars is one thing but lying about it is another. I am extremely disappointed in the service and staff I experienced.

Pros: Unfortunately I fell down a flight of stairs and was unable to drive except for the first couple of days of my 2 week rental. Due to the terms of the agreement I was unable to return the car early or designate another driver (unless we both returned to the place of the rental....with me driving.)
The car was great but I won't try this again.....too inflexible.
The empoyees at pick up and return were very efficient and friendly and helpful.
I had to drive the car back for the return which was unbelievably painful.

Lack of initial information! Poor customer service
Pros: I did not like anything about my experience.
Cons: Because your company did not initially inform me that Chicago residents could not rent from the company it ruined my entire trip. I traveled almost an hour and a half from the north side of Chicago to Midway Airport thinking that I had a car reserved. I even called TWO TIMES to confirm. I even asked the agents on the phone if there was anything that I needed to know and had also given them my address. There should be an alert in your system if one of the car companies does not rent to people who aren't flying in or out of the airport.
I ended up having to take a Greyhound bus the next day to Detroit which took me 7 hours and caused me to miss the birth of my first niece. I am NO HAPPY about my experience what so ever.

Poor customer Service
Pros: The whole booking process was super easy online and the car rental location was easy to find. When I checked in the only option they gave me was a Yaris, when the category I booked for was a 5 person, 2 bag car. This was very disappointing as we were traveling with a 7 year old and needed the extra space and a Yaris was NOT going to cut it. The attendant didn't offer any kind of help but offered to up charge us to an SUV, which is not what I asked.
Cons: I felt as if I was ripped off in the process, ive recently rented at LAX and it was not this difficult the last time. I was upcharged $5 per day to get a very minimal upgrade on a car. Very disappointing.

Cons: they tried to charge me an additional $160 at pickup when I showed up 20 minutes early, then they couldn't figure out why the price was so much higher than the rate I has confirmed online. eventually I waited an extra hour so I could get the original rate. no idea why they didn't tell me that I would be charged so much extra for an early pickup. they just printed the bill and tried to get me to sign it.
THEN, they tried to scam me out of nearly $400 when I needed the car an extra two days due to a blizzard canceling my flight. I was trying to return the car on time to an alternate location but they refused to give me a quote on the updated cost. eventually I realized if I return the car 20 minutes before the time they told me, it would reduce the new rate by more than $300. (keeping it to daily rate instead of weekly.) why the customer service rep didn't simply suggest this is beyond me. they obviously are hoping people won't have the energy to argue the exorbitant additional prices they sneak in.

Cons: It was a terrible experience renting from this location. I was told that the Payless site was at the airport. It was not and I had to take 2 shuttles to get there. The actual office was a distance from the airport and was old and outdated. In addition the Payless specific shuttle was dirty and the driver was highly inconsiderate and played loud music during the drive. Also, I was not informed, nor was there a sign in the office telling me that a hold would be placed on my debit card until the car was returned. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Pros: Counter staff were very friendly and courteous.
Cons: When I booked this reservation, I was mislead into thinking that Payless was located in the terminal at Chicago Midway. Not only was it not in the terminal, it wasn't even located in the rental car building where all the other agency are. I had to take the shuttle from the terminal to the car rental facility. Then I had to wait for a Payless bus to pick me up and take me to the Payless facility, located in a residential area a few miles away. If I had known this at the time I booked my car, it probably would not have been that big of a deal. However, since my reservation stated pickup was located "In Terminal", this experience was quite aggravating.

Never found the place
Cons: This felt like a bait and switch. We showed up at 5:00pm on a Tuesday to Midway airport. I didn't see the Payless logo on the rental shuttle so I asked a security guard and a bus driver where Payless was located. They both told me that ALL rental cars are found in the same place at Midway. My family got on the on this bus and the confusion continued. An hour later we ended up just renting a car from another company right there on the spot. Payless was in a different location, and more important, it was already closed for the night!!! No email, no phone call, no indication that Payless operates in a different location and on different hours than every other rental car option at Midway. Payless needs to find a way to communicate better with its customers

Must take two shuttles from Midwa
Cons: Kayak says Payless is in the "airport terminal", while others like Budget and Alamo are "shuttle." Wrong! You have to take the rental car shuttle, but then you need to take *another* shuttle from there to get to PayLess. We waited 20 minutes for the second shuttle while plenty of regular shuttles came and went. When I got off the second shuttle there was only one person at the desk. Fortunately I was second in line. The last person in line must have waited a long time to get their car. Returning is confusing because the entrance is not on the street of the address and due to a one-way street you have to go around the block to get in. Next time I'm going with one of the companies located in the rental car complex.

The price was the best in the area.
Cons: The rental office was NOT at the terminal as indicated on-line. When informed by airport staff that all car rentals were at the car rental facility off airport, I took the shuttle there only to find that Payless was not there either. Another phone call and a 15 min wait outside later, a van showed up to take me to the Payless lot. My rental car was clean and the handoff went fine. They told me to return the car to this lot and they would take me to the airport directly. I had an early morning flight so arrived at the Payless office at 6:00am only to find that the office was closed and would not open 'till 7:00am! No one told me that cars could only be dropped off within certain hours. Furious!!!
Cons: Was only there for a second, dropping off. Not much to say - they did a good job.

Knows How To Take Reservation But Not How To KEEP
Pros: When I finally received the car I wanted, it was great.
Cons: Up until that point it was miserable working with Avis. We had reserved a minivan as we have 2 carseats for kids and it would provide the best arrangement in the vehicle. At the counter, it was clear they hadn't actually set aside a minivan and tried to upsell me to a "nicer" car. Since I was exhausted after flying with 2 young kids, I said sure, even at a higher cost. Unlike a minivan with the two separate seats in the middle, it had two rows of seats in the back, making it impossible for anyone else to get into the car after the car seats were strapped in - this obviously wouldn't work.
After going back in and demanding a minivan, they said they'd have one ready in 15min, during which we're just sitting there with two restless kiddos (1yo and 3yo). When they switched us back to the minivan, they also did not adjust the price, and we were simply left charged an extra $15/day for a car we didn't take. No apology, no attempt to correct the billing. I will not be working with Avis again.
Be sure to demand the car you want and don't let them upsell you. We paid 2x the price quoted on Kayak.

Drop off and pick up were awful
Pros: There was very little I liked about the rental except maybe the price through Kayak. When I priced the rental directly on Avis' website it was more than double the price we got at Kayak.
Cons: Only one person was working the rental desk upon arrival. Even though there were only three people in front of us in line, it took over 30 minutes to rent a car AT MIDNIGHT. It wasn't during peak hours. We were told we were being charged for a full tank of gas which would be credited when we returned the car with a full tank. The credit wasn't applied. The person checking us in upon return said this was something he had been seeing a lot and didn't know why. He wasn't able to apply the credit so we had to go stand in line again to get our money back instead of catching the shuttle for the terminal. This provided unnecessary stress to our family, and I think this is a money making scheme on Avis' part. Most people probably don't have the time to stand in line to get a credit when they have a flight to catch. Also, we rented an SUV. We were given a Subaru Outback which was very uncomfortable didn't provide the extra room we needed. Overall, not a good experience.

Cons: The company has a hidden "mandatory" roadside assistance fee of $100. It is NOT printed on any of the paperwork, nor or is there a notification when making the reservation on Kayak. It doubled the price of my rental, but there was 0 communication upfont. I reserve thru Kayak all the time and expect they would be disappointed in the hidden costs as well.

The car that wasn't there
Cons: "Reserved" online. It was not made clear that the company was offsite or that a credit card number was necessary to hold the car. Our flight arrived nearly 2 hours late. We took the shuttle to the rental counter only to realize Economy was in a different location. Called both the local number and the toll-free number and got no answer. By the time my phone calls caught up with me it was 12:30 am and the message was that they would hold the car until 10:00. So now we were stuck at Midway. Luckily we were able to rent anothe car but had to cram 6 adults with luggage into 1 car instead of 2 and had to pay a premium price. I would not use Economy again.

Pros: Awesome people. Great prices. Clean reliable vehicle.
Pros: I rented from Icarus cars from several dealer this trip. National was the only one that actually had the car I reserved when I arrived, and did not jerk me around. Also, no line at midway (but the others had long lines...).
