Book Hertz hire cars in Chicago

• Where are the best pick-up locations for Hertz car rentals in Chicago?

Hertz has several pick-up locations that are particularly convenient for customers. For example, the locations on West Belmont Avenue and North Clark Street are both centrally located within the city, making them nice options. There is also a pick-up location at O'Hare International Airport (ORD), which is handy for anyone that will be flying into this transportation hub.

• Am I able to pick my own Hertz car rentals in Chicago, or will I be assigned a vehicle by the company?

When you first make your reservation with Hertz in Chicago, the company will ask you to select the vehicle model that you would like to rent. However, Hertz does not guarantee that you will receive this specific model, as this entirely depends on what is available at the time in the fleet of the branch that you will be renting from. If the model that you have requested is not available, you will instead be given a similar car, either from the same auto manufacturer you asked for, or a different one.

• Is it possible for me to have Hertz car rentals in Chicago delivered directly to me?

Hertz offers a service known as Hertz Neighborhood Delivery, which allows individuals to have their car rental delivered directly to their personal residence, office building, or hotel. This is particularly convenient for those that do not have access to transportation to travel to a branch themselves, or who are short on time. To benefit from this service, you will want to make sure that you notify the branch you will be renting from well in advance, as the availability of this perk depends on the availability of Hertz employees at the time of your requested delivery.

My original request specifically asked for 7, due to needing room for 4 adults. 2 baby seats and of course luggage for 6 people. The car I was given was “same” class. Not sure how things are “classed” grouped together. , but we had already had an interesting conversation on the coverage on the car. I was treated like “you should read”. Let me tell you. After spending an incredible amount on insurance and given to see that you can’t fit with your family and luggage, it’s falling out the back. Had it stacked where we couldn’t see out the back window. Finally put two bags in with passengers. Since we did everything on the internet, which your website kept asking for the car rental fee, like starting from scratch. I thought I could resolve it at the desk, but agent really couldn’t understand that I was puzzled on another window that popped up as I was attempting to complete. If I was going to buy insurance, if I understood your website, since I was told to “read” your website and that’s all that mattered. Running out of space. I would never rent again. I called an UBER. That sent a car large enough . UBER has my vote.Reviewed 2 Sept 2026

I booked a hybrid car. They gave me an suv saying it was an upgrade. It’s not an upgrade when you want a hybrid. It’s a downgrade. I probably spent an extra $50 on gas. Going to reach out to Hertz corporate about it.Reviewed 24 Jul 2026

I was charged extra fees in addition to what I had paid and was expected to be charged and I have no understanding what those charges are for and don’t believe I should be billed what I have been billed so now I’m going to have to go back and fight those charges, which is extra time and energy and frustration that I did not expect. I am very disappointed.Reviewed 6 Jun 2026

I wasn’t able to rent! They call me and send a message that they don’t have a car for me . It was stressful considering that happened just on the night before. I needed the car in the mid morning to travel from Chicago to Detroit because I had an appointment that day. I had to find another agency to rent a car and considering I needed for the next day and I was complicated.Reviewed 11 Aug 2025

We rented from chicago airport agreeing to return at Milwaukee. I explicitly asked the staff to confirm the return location at Milwaukee will be open at 4-5pm. Then I was surprised, the location was closed and no instructions for overnight return, no one answering calls at Hertz. I ended up returning at the next closest location which is the Milwaukee airport. Then I get a surprise bill of $450 instead of the negotiated rate of $160 on July 6. I am working to charge back that transaction with the credit card company. Hertz doesn't answer customer service calls anyway.Reviewed 26 Jul 2025

They added hidden fees and charged me for gas even though I had returned the tank with more than I left it with. You expect to pay a premium with Hertz so that you don’t have to deal with chasing their customer service. It is truly useless to have a smooth pickup process if it means that you’ll have to track them down later because they charged you the price you paid ahead of time over in fees. Very disappointing.Reviewed 24 Mar 2025
