W re reserved a car to go on a leaf peeping trip and when we arrived to pick it up, they were all out of cars. We ended up cancelling our reservation and paying double with another rental company but at least they had a car for our reservation.Reviewed 6 Oct 2024

Double charged (not pending holds--actual charges) and still waiting for a response from the company. Many pre-trip messages insisting that I should check in online to "skip the desk and go straight to the car." Fortunately I didn't do that, because upon arrival, numerous unhappy travelers were turned away at the garage and sent back to the desk to check in. There were physical signs everywhere asking people to check in online and go straight to the garage. Terrible treatment at the desk. The person lied and said, verbatim, "We only have electric cars right now." and asked if I needed instructions on how to find charging stations. I insisted on a gas car and suddenly he was able to make one available--for twice the price we had reserved online! Don't lie to me and say there are not any gas cars then. Bad service in general too. He asked me how to spell my name WHILE actively holding my photo ID, and then later asked "What kind of card is that" after I had paid. (He meant Visa vs. Mastercard, which, again, you have my card. Stop wasting my time.) Car center console was dirty with brown sticky residue. Horrible experience start to finish, and I'm still not even finished since I'm still waiting for the charges to be corrected.Reviewed 6 Sept 2024

I accidentally rented an electric car… in thrifts defense I did not read the description before I purchased. It wasn’t until I was 30m away from the airport that I realized. Took forever to charge the car. The car only had 200mi on it to empty when I rented it. Also did not interact with anyone to get the car it was all online, turned in the keys to a human but that’s it.Reviewed 28 Aug 2024

Wildly inconvenient. I was given an electric rental that was not fully charged. I spent much of my vacation frantically looking for chargers to get it charged and wasted time I had planned for visiting instead on waiting for a rental car to charge. There should be warning or pop up pr some kind of instructions to renter that they are receiving a fully electric car so they know ahead of time and can swap if need be.Reviewed 26 Aug 2024

Customer service was great! The only problems were the price doubling form the first quote, and now a $78 toll charge. I did go through some tolls, but certainly not $78 worth. Ended up being WAY more expensive than I planned.Reviewed 16 Jun 2024

Our pickup experience was horrible!! At first, the man I spoke with was very nice and picking up the car was easy. I installed the car seat (ridiculous they charge for these, they are legally required for safety) and went to pick up my husband and son at our hotel. When we tried to get my son in the seat, we realized the straps would not tighten properly on the seat. The drivers seat was also too high to the ceiling for my torso height causing my view of the road to be blocked by the rear view mirror. We returned to the rental counter to get a new car seat and swap vehicles. It was 10:05 am or so at this point. We did not get on the road until 11:30AM due to so much back and forth trying to do a simple car seat and vehicle swap. We were repeatedly told to go to the wrong area for assistance, and had to drive through the Boston airport property each time to get there only to be told nobody could help us. It was extremely frustrating and delayed our trip by hours. Our poor toddler was stuck in his car seat for way more time than necessary as a result. Horrible experience.Reviewed 15 Nov 2023

We rented a compact SUV to be picked up on Friday at 7PM. We arrived to the rental car center to find no lines at all other vendors and a line of what had to be 100 people waiting for cars at Thrifty. There was one poor employee that looked like he was going to cry. The line was long because they had no cars. We received no notification that there were no cars. We were driving at least two hours north to New Hampshire so we made a whole new reservation with Avis. I have been told I can submit that reservation to make up for the difference in price for the purchase at Thrifty. How is this ok when they were significantly overbooked and had no product?! Will never book this way again.Reviewed 13 Nov 2023

Top tips for hiring a car from Thrifty at Boston Logan Intl Airport
Keep in mind that Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is a major transportation hub, and that this Thrifty location can get very busy during peak times and holidays. If you’re traveling during busy times of the year, we recommend planning buffer time in case there is a line at the Thrifty counter or a delay at the airport. We suggest checking all your documents beforehand to make sure you have your driver’s license and a credit card in your name.
Thrifty car rentals at Boston Logan Intl Airport (BOS) is open from 6 am until 1:30 am, which is ideal if you’re arriving late at night or during the day. However, this location does not allow after-hours pick-ups between 1:30 am and 6 am. Also, keep in mind that you might experience a delay from when you exit the airplane until you arrive at the Thrifty counter. This is especially important to keep in mind if you are traveling from a West Coast airport like San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on a redeye flight that arrives before 6 am.

You can choose from a variety of affordable, fully electric cars including intermediate SUVs, compact cars, or the EV supplier’s choice. If you select the EV supplier’s choice, Thrifty will pick out an electric car for you so you might get a nicer car than you anticipated. Make sure that you return the vehicle with the same battery charge level as when you picked it up. This should be around 80 percent. You can buy a recharging add-on through Thrifty, but you’re still required to return the car with at least 10 percent charge.
Some customers advise against choosing the supplier’s choice option through KAYAK because the Thrifty staff at this location will most likely offer you an electric vehicle. If you’re planning to drive around the downtown area or visit family with an EV charging station, this works in your favor. However, if you’re planning a road trip around New England or don’t want to worry about charging the car, this might not be the best option for you.
