Pros: Great customer service, the car was clean and comfortable

Cons: Car had strong cigarette smell and was not clean, garbage inside, had to spend time cleaning it.

Drop-off -- no one there
Pros: lots of signs telling me where to find the return area.
Cons: No one was in the drop-off lanes to guide me into the line -- no one met me to check me out -- i had to walk across the garage to find one checkin agent, while others (3-4) with their red vests on where sitting in a van in the middle of the garage, relaxing.

Sold out but didn't let me know
Cons: Although I received a confirmation e-mail and called Avis to confirm my booking, I was unable to pick up a car when I arrived at Avis, the service representative said: "I would have called you to tell you your reservation was canceled, but my phone is not working". Horrible costumer service. Avis offered no assistance to find another rental car.

On time, ready to go in spite of Harvey flooding
Pros: My reserved car was ready for pick up at the designated time in spite of the fact that this site lost most of its vehicles to the flooding from hurricane Harvey.
Cons: No complaints.

Did not have a car for us even with reservation
Cons: They did not have a car for us, even though we have a reservation. Somehow, I guess, my overbooked, even though there were still a couple dozen cars sitting on the lot. It took us about an hour of calling around and paying Uber to drive us to another location before we were able to find a car, and instead of good customer service where they worked on helping us, it was all on us.

Did not get the type of car I booked
Pros: I booked a full size car - which historically in Houston in a small SUV. I received a very nice Nissan Altima....which while very nice, was way too small for my trip.

The desk agent rushed me out and did not offer me any option to request a larger vehicle. When I went to pick up the car I nearly got run over by an employee who then apologized and asked if I needed help. I said yes and she directed me to a man in a white shirt. He was on the phone and would not give me the time of day, so I gave up and took the Nissan Altima. The music was turned ALL the way up in the car. Ugh. Upon leaving the rental center, I mentioned to the gate agent that I did not feel like I got the car I paid for and she said the Nissan Altima was not a FULL SIZE car. But at that point it was too late to do anything about it. It was a very disappointing experience.

Cons: I reserved an SUV car and when they didn't have any when I arrived, I had to argue with the lady to just give me a smaller car as I was not comfortable in a pick-up truck. She kept telling me it would cost more money to a regular sedan vehicle. I was adamant that I was uncomfortable in an SUV and eventually she gave me a sedan that had an oil change light on. When I walked to get the car, there were several SUV vehicles in the lot. I was quite disappointed with this experience.

Pros: I like that it was reliable
Cons: Car was worn and dirty and did smell like a smoker has used the car on many occasions. Expected a newer fleet from Avis.

Did not get the mini-van reserved and 3 hours late
Cons: I did not get the mini van reserved and it is 3 hours late and still charged the same.

Cons: Windows were filthy and had to clean them in order to see and not get glare from oncoming headlights and low setting sun. took forever to get the car when we got into town.

Pros: It was a very clean, affordable car. I never waited for long at the rental location. Everything was handled well and went smoothly.
Cons: I work for a large company and am under 25, and several of my coworkers are as well. It is obnoxious to pay a fee for our age when we are consistently using this service.

Rather surprised with Gensis versus Lincoln MKZ.
Pros: This vehicle had everything from GPS, driver and passenger power seats, LED running lights, and their fancy badge would light up on the ground from outside mirrors at night. Finally good gas mileage. If I had not been so impressed with this vehicle Avis would had received two or three stars.
Cons: I tried to confirm Ez-Tag with Avis twice before I arrived and both agents I spoke with I could not understand because their accents. The day I picked the vehicle up the agent was trying to upgrade me again. However, the most important thing I was concerned about was the EZ-tag and when I returned the car I was told a different story of how Avis charges for someone using this system. Bad policy.

Cons: Unexpected charge for driving less than 75 miles despite filling up tank and having receipt. Lines were long and staff were not content. Not unfriendly but definitely did not want to be there. Will not rent from them again.

Great with one exception
Pros: Finally a guaranteed reservation! Either I've had a string of bad luck but whenever I rent a minivan I never get what I ask for even when I make a reservation in a month's advance. This time I received my choice and with no delays. Check in and out service was painless and professional.
Cons: Too good to be true when I received the bill. I was quoted and guaranteed a rate of $75 but when I returned the vehicle I noticed I was charged $91. Some bogus maintenance fee I was hit with which I eventually got reimbursed on but my experience would've been exceptional until I received the bill. Overall I was still satisfied.

Long line at the counter - car not ready - 45 minu
Cons: Since the car I book "was not available..." I had the option to pay an additional $20 per day +/- OR wait for a car to become available. That's customer focused... I'm a frequent business traveler and National has limited availability Hobby... That's why I went with Avis
