Parking is at a premium downtown so a smaller car is better if possible to sneak into spaces. In the suburbs it's all strip malls so parking is plentiful and spaces wide. Fuel is cheap. Downtown is also one way in a lot of places so can be tricky to navigate if unfamiliar.

Line was long to pick up. Drop off was super easy. Car was somewhat clean. According to the mileage it was brand new, but did not seem brand new. Value was great and affordable. Wish I would have know it was a base model with out some of the luxuries. Will rent again just might upgrade to a model with more luxuries.

The car they initially offered barely had room for 5 passengers and absolutely did not have room for 5 pieces of luggage. This required an upgrade at an enormous price increase. Instead of a 4 day rental, i dumped it after less than a day and found a way better deal elsewhere

I had a horrible experience at the Enterprise located in PDX airport. I would love to speak with someone about it. They ended up sending me to an offsite location who then told me they had no cars available. There was an issue accepting my debit card because I had a one way reservation. Awful customer service. Then I ended up having to pay extra for an Uber & my reservation became more expensive when they finally did find me a car at the offsite location

I showed up with my confirmation number, and they didn't have any cars available when I arrived to pick up. There was no explanation given; they simply said sorry we are sold out, nothing we can do, and mentioned they won't have any available for the next week and a half. I had flown from the east coast to Portland with no backup options. Consequently, I found myself stranded 2 hours away from Eugene, OR, with nowhere to go or stay. I was without a place (homeless) or placeless in this case in a different city I have never visited or had plans on staying because my destination was not Portland, I was stranded with no family or friends to turn to for help.

Huge line for pickup, even though I had done pre-check in online. No signage or a clear line-all who entered were confused about who was next-only the waiting customers explained the order they were waiting. The 2 busy employees didn’t tell anyone what was going on. They would stop helping check-ins any time someone came to drop keys and focus the attention onto them. Not enough cars for all who were there waiting. We were given a car that had not been cleaned or washed. The person helped before us came back to say the car he was given smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, only to be told he would have to wait possibly an hour for another option. No public bathroom, nowhere nearby with a bathroom, either.

Liked the type of car. Did NOT like the hours it took to get a satisfactory vehicle and get on our way. Seriously. Fifty or so customers standing on line for three, sometimes two Avis representatives. Avis staff upstairs where we picked up the car told us that’s the norm. After loading our luggage into the dirty, smoky vehicle, adjusting mirrors, setting up phone for GPS, etc., we noticed passenger window had. Large crack from top to bottom. Exchanged vehicle for yet another dirty, smoky vehicle, loaded, adjusted and found that dashboard display screen didn’t work. Exchanged vehicle yet again only to find the same issue with the third vehicle. Decided to suck it up and go anyway, after OVER nearly 2 HOURS.

Long pick up line. Little information from agent on Tesla utilization (charging, charging rates…in small print contract but nothing to drive me to read slower or longer despite me saying I’d never rented a Tesla). Car was dirty. Charged barely above the limit.

The car was great, I think that the staff could do a lot better the inspection of the vehicles. I didn’t notice that the tires on the car were chipping off on the outside walls. I could have been in really bad accident if that particular tire had exploded on the highway.

Completely disorganized. Couldn't figure out if I had rented with thrifty, Hertz, kayak, or Expedia. Failure to provide me a working confirmation number. Vehicle was different from what I specifically rented. Telephone operator non existent at either San Diego international and Portland international. Customer service non existent. Can't login and make changes online because confirmation number didn't work (this is a recurring issue since I can remember, every time I reant through a third party). I paid for prepaid gas when I picked up the vehicle then when I returned it, the tech had showed me that they never added it or charged my card for it. I'm not even done with my list but this is taking too much time. Good luck.

I booked through Expedia. Not clear it was no cancel or no change. Had to change dates. Not allowed. Expedia customer service didn’t help, and Thrifty was greedy and short sighted. So I never picked up the car in Portland BECAUSE I WASN’T THERE because I moved my trip by three days to 8/24-26. So I’ll never rent from Thrifty ever again and never through Expedia either. Kayak also suspect. Lost like $290 and had the pleasure of getting all the helpful reminders over the last several days about the car I was not picking up nor returning but I was paying for. Terrible experience. So stupid as I rent a lot of cars and you or thrifty will not be beneficiaries of that. Haven’t been this irritated about travel in decades. Such a short sighted decision. I’ll enjoy my Sixt rental tomorrow and every other time I rent from now on.

Thrifty promised a call or text to confirm our car. It never happened. Flight delay meant we arrived after closing. No info about what to do, no ability to get our car, no humans or options available on any phone number we called. Ultimately a security guard told us we could Uber to our hotel and the car rental companies usually reimburse. Spent $100 on car service and rented from someone else the next day.

I had a confirmed rental for 11 am at PDX (Portland airport). The car wasn't ready then, at least not according to the Thrifty app ("check-in to avoid the lines!"). I waited in the lines. One hour later, the car still wasn't ready. I was told there were delays at the car-wash and it would be another couple of hours. I ended up booking with another company. At 6:30 pm, the Thrifty app showed the car still wasn't ready...

You guys at Kayak, Expedia and Hertz screwed up big time. While you showed us a confirmed reservation, upon arriving at the rental facility, Hertz staff informed us that they didn’t have any vehicles available for our rental and that Expedia and Kayak causes this issue frequently for them. We had a day planned in Portland but due to lack of rental car, we couldn’t do anything around town.

The care was banged up with dents and damage on all sides. The tire pressure warning was persistent no matter how much air I put in.. only to the recommended PSI. The car smelled like cigarettes and had burn holes in the driver seat. The rims were scrapped up very badly as well and tires had big chunks of rubber missing and or flapping around. The car was disgusting.

I searched for Portland airport and I was given a rental car 20 min off site from the airport, this caused massive problems. With getting it and dropping off. The customer service from hertz was THE WORST. I was struggling 3 or more times to call for various issues, it took more than 30 min plus to get a person on the phone each time and each time they were not helpful. My plane was delayed through no fault of my own obviously and they almost didn’t hold my rental agreement. When I asked to move the place of return (again another 30 min on hold ) I was going to be charged another $160. So even tho I got a deal through a third party, getting to and from cost me another $100 in Uber fees. Ridiculous and I have never used hertz and I won’t again

We had a reservation for a company car which showed a price under $250. Once we arrived, Hertz attempted to raise the price of that rental to 600+. In addition, the companies choice was only an electric vehicle (which is cool but that should be made known). After going back and forth, and disputing a in city fee which was just an. upcharge we were able to get the rental for around 350ish. I believe the formatting was of what we would pay was not forthcoming

After making the reservation I immediately realized the dates were wrong and that I did not specify returning the car to a different city. I took immediate action to try to modify the reservation. I found It was impossible to use kayak to modify the rental. So I’m dissatisfied with the basic service of Kayan. Next, I tried contacting Hertz directly, only to be told to use their web site over and over again. The web site was zero help, and getting a real live person to assist me was next to impossible. I decided to cancel the original booking and to try to make a new one with corrected dates and drop off point. Hertz then tripled the daily rental rate. So I went with directly booking with Avis and got a better rate, and upgrade than what Hertz was offering. Neither Kayak or Hertz have been helpful, or cost effective in this matter, and I will advise as many people as I can to not use either of your services. Since I attempted to modify my initial rental within one hour of making the reservation, but was driven to total frustration by the lack of customer service, I feel that I should not be charged for the rental cancellation. So, you folks at kayak, are you really listening?

Sixt office is small in DTP, but the mighty duo Shawn and Nate were amazing. Quite a force they are, a little wait with good concerned service is all OK. Cars were limited so I got an expensive upgrade to a BMW X5, unnamed credit card but the experience of driving to the coast and mighty Columbia was all worth it.

Pros:

Easy pickup and the service desk guy was friendly and informative about the area where we were going. They were able to get the car early as our airline had changed our arrival time at the last minute.

Cons:

We came an hour early from our pickup time and had to wait a 15 minutes or so to get the minivan as it was upstairs. The driver was not the friendliest.

I was told to go in front of the Avis booth on the third floor and my parking space was “Rush”. There isn’t actually a space labeled Rush. They were apparently washing a vehicle to bring up. I waited approximately 30 minutes and no vehicle showed up. I went back down to the desk and there were no people to help me. They disappeared. An Avis lady helped me. Over the walkie talkie the Payless folks claimed they sent up the vehicle. Someone else confirmed there was no vehicle waiting anywhere. She booked me with another vehicle. When returning, a gentleman all but finished checking me in, but then passed me off to another who started the process all over again. I subsequently received two receipts by email. I will not use Payless again.
