• When I book Dollar car rentals in Philadelphia, can I purchase insurance from Dollar to cover my rental vehicle?

Yes. If you have no policy or credit card that insures a rental or if you do not own your own vehicle, you can purchase one of the insurance packages that Dollar offers to all of its renters. You could consider buying a Personal Protection Plan, a Loss Damage Waiver, and/or a Liability Insurance Supplement. If you choose not to purchase the insurance, a Dollar representative might ask to see proof that you have auto insurance to cover the rental, so you would have to bring your policy with you when you picked up your rental vehicle.

The truck that we rented was as expected. The truck was clean. The person who assisted us was helpful and not pushing us to get any extras that we did not want.Reviewed 2 Jul 2026

Completely disappointing. When I arrived at the Dollar pick up spot, there was a long line Z. People said they had been waiting for more than an hour, and still only halfway through. I walked over to Budget. There was no one in line. Rented a car in minutes and was on my way, for $80 more. Good riddance to Dollar.Reviewed 24 Feb 2026

I set up my reservation online well in advance (and specifically turned down additional coverage) but the reserved car was not ready for me when I arrived, so I had to go to the desk where they apparently signed me up for the additional coverage I had previously opted out of - and I didn't find this out until the end of my rental when they charged my card for $200 more than expected. Be very careful when dealing with desk agents, they will scam you!Reviewed 26 Aug 2024

The car was just as described very nice car to drive, but I had problem with learning all the gizmos that it had. I was finally able to figure some of them out. Very comfortable and easy to drive.Reviewed 20 Aug 2024

The website said you could rent with a debit card. Then told me I had to use a credit card. Then did not refund any of the money I paid. This is unacceptable. I also can not call in because nobody ever answers the phone. It’s an automated line that says 10 min wait every time you call no matter what day or time.Reviewed 2 Aug 2024

The employees at pick-up were polite, but the vehicle was not ready and we were forced to wait for more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately the waiting area was hot and uncomfortable, increasing the displeasure over this delay. The vehicle was good and in good, but not perfect, condition. Drop off was simple and easy. If you have the time to spend on the likely delays, Dollar may be a good choice. If you want prompt service, you should look elsewhere.Reviewed 11 Jul 2024

Everything was fine. There was a bit of a wait to pickup the car & mixup on car itself compared to the rental agreement. But everyone handled it fast, smooth, & positively. Drop off was smooth. No issues at all. The only inquiry or recommendation is to enhance the Dollar rental experience to be more like renting for Hertz, but there might be reasons I am not considering. Anyway, all good. Electronic car rentals themselves need some help, but that's the car & EV charging station issue not the rental company. ThanksReviewed 9 Jun 2024
