Pros: staff were freindly, property was clean, rooms well equiped and food was well prepared. Given that we had a roof room the addition of an air conditioning unit and fan were much appreciated given we were experiencing hot weather.
Cons: Our room was in the roof thus angled ceilings which led to both of us baning our heads a number of times i.e. getting in an out of bed and in and out of the bath. A presonal dislike was carpet in the bathroom as I am always warry on cleanleness especially around the toilet, not that in this case anything was obvious. The allocated parking was occupied by other customers on two occations during our stay.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Location is 7 min walk to the lovely village of Lyndhurst. Huge park across the toad with hours of walking tracks, and wild ponies. Despite being on a main rode, the rooms at the back were very quiet. Breakfast is good at £10 (although oddly they ask you to pay cash, no receipt).
Cons: It was just hostile, and we felt like we were being managed by an invisible set of rules constantly. - We we’re allocated one guest bottle of shampoo / conditioner, for both of us for three nights. When we asked if we could grit another set we were told “not allowed - one set per guests per visit”. - Theres very little space to sit outside the room. I took calls on the patio and was about to run out of battery so went into the dining room to charge. Told “not allowed - go to your room where you have a desk”. - We’d leave phones / laptops charging in the room, and we’d come back after breakfast and all the power plugs had been turned off. (Guess that wasn’t allowed either?). It just made for a really unpleasant stay. Any generosity has been stripped away.

The Montagu Arms Hotel - Brockenhurst - Building

9.0 Excellent (293 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Montagu Arms Hotel in Brockenhurst (New Forest District), you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Beaulieu National Motor Museum and Beaulieu Abbey. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free valet parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location, great building and very friendly staff
Cons: I think some of the menu choices were a little over priced
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Pretty garden
Cons: Appalling food in the Brasserie
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable garden suite and particularly the bed. The room rate was£379 per night but regrettably did not include breakfast which was a further £38 per day. Dined in both the Brasserie and Dining Room . Both were excellent for food quality and service. The latter including a middle range wine was £100 per head including a service charge so not inexpensive. Enjoyed it very much tho’ and we would go back.
Cons: As above
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location in Beaulieu and excellent service by the hotel staff. Dinner at the Terrace was the highlight of our stay and one of the most memorable meals we’ve had recently.
Cons: Our room was facing the street and was a bit noisy. No spa in the hotel, although guests have access to the facilities of the hotels’s sister property.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautifully appointed period hotel. Stunning gardens and really nice overall ambience of calm and efficiency throughout the Hotel.
Cons: Not really a complaint but a pity that the traffic can be so noisy outside.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff were very helpful and dealt with all our questions and requests. The room was beautiful and practical. The hotel is a listed building so it's architecture and character were delightful. The gardens are stunning.
Cons: We found trying to eat at Monty's Inn stressful. The staff here appeared confused about their role with guests in the restaurant being catered for over those choosing to eat or drink in the bar. Dogs were also allowed in the bar, not everyone wants wet, smelly creatures where they are eating.
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good. Good selection of cooked items, which were cooked to order. The breakfast buffet was a bit lacking if you wanted a Continental Breakfast i.e. a bit short on cold meats and cheeses. Otherwise it was adequate for the number of guests and most people seemed to opt for a cooked breakfast. Nice that even though there was tea/coffe making equipment in the room, there was an offer of an early morning complimentarytea/coffee tray brought to your room. Comfortable bed, refurbished bathroom. Fluffy bathrobes.
Cons: I hadn't realised that the price I paid was for room only. Given that I paid £189 for the room, and then £38 for Breakfast,I thought it was expensive. We arrived late, having spent the day with friends with whom we had lunch. We were unable to get a light snack in the hotel or in Monty's Bar (the Pub). We did ask if we could be served Room service sandwiches in the lounge and that was agreed, and we were then able to have a drink with them. But I thought the Room service charge on top of the sandwiches was cheeky.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very comfortable with excellent food, engaged staff and a great location within the New Forest. Loved the ponies holding up traffic in the Main Street on Sunday morning!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful, room was clean, tidy, comfortable, well laid out. The hotel is set in the village of Beaulieu, which is very picturesque. Its location gives you access to many of the New Forest attractions, and is on the doorstep of the National Motor Museum
Cons: nothing
9.3 Excellent

Cons: Traffic noise from the road. Small odd shaped cramped bathroom.

Pros: The staff that we had dealings with were great very helpful for my elderly grandparents also and we were always greeted with a smile
Cons: Steep stairs going up to the second floor but this did not detract us from the hotel would return but request a Lower floor for my grandparents
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely helpful. we were only staying overnight - but didn't want to leave our luggage in the car as we were off in a cruise and had rather alot. Unfortunately my husband had injured his knee the day before and wasn't able to handle the luggage very well. The Manager was so kind and transferred all our luggage into a storage room overnight and back to the car the following morning. He was so helpful and kind. We were very appreciative. The breakfast was excellent and our room had everything we needed. If we are fortunate enough to go on another cruise, we would definitely stay again. It was a good start to our dream holiday - thank you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great room, lovely interiors, super comfy bed and fab En-suite bathroom/wet room. Really friendly staff and a great breakfast. Great location very quiet and only 15min walk into Southampton town centre.
Cons: The particular room we were in was on the ground floor at the front overlooking the car park, so was quite exposed if you wanted the blinds/curtains open!
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Nice cheerful staff, good breakfast
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice hotel near the University for graduation the next day. Breakfast was good but arrived too late for dinner.
Cons: For a superior room, the carpet was not the best and needed a clean. We had two rooms and I was phoned after we left to say that the information pack was missing from one and a hairdryer missing from the other. I would never of thought of checking that all things were present when we arrived and we certainly did not take them.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a deluxe single room which was spacious (among single rooms), nicely decorated and comfy. It had a huge TV too. The corridor had a music which was a nice extra. Also had a very good breakfast.
Cons: I got there a bit late and there was no parking space but I found one in ~5-10m distance on the street
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the Nespresso coffee machine. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was very nice. Loved the live singer and hotel has a good vibe.
Cons: Room could do with a mirror other than in the bathroom.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel, needed to get away for a relaxing time and the team fully delivered. Exceptional service from the moment we arrived to the time we left, great location, enjoyed every minute we will be back to stay again soon.
Cons: Nothing, couldn’t have wished for more, really enjoyed it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the Bridal Suite: absolutely perfect in every way!
Cons: The spa is lovely, but the access and changing facilities are confusing. This completely undermines the sense of ease and flow that you expect at a top spa.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a nice location and the rooms have decent size. The food is good but a bit expensive.
Cons: Because of the size and layout of the hotel, you may have to travel through a lot of doors to get to your room from the reception. This is not ideal if you have a heavy bag / luggage.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean rooms and spacious with patio doors leading onto garden with private outside seating. Cleaning staff very attentive and a lovely welcome from front desk. The Thai food was delicious. The spa treatments were outstanding and highly worth while. A nice touch to be encouraged to lunch in spa restaurant in one's gown and slippers. Very relaxing. Gardens well maintained and the exterior pleasant. I would thoroughly recommend as a good value hotel.
Cons: A nice hotel, if a little tired round the edges. Rooms spacious and comfortable though I could hear tv from other room and even snoring from next room but most hotels are probably like this. Despite these points it was a good place to stay. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were cold but I think that was maybe a one off problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff helpful . Room clean. Good location and facilities. Ray the man who helps the guests at reception was excellent very friendly and helpful
5.0 Okay
Pros: The food was okay and the hydro spa was nice, if not a little full. The additional cost of the Spa facilities are an expensive addition when considering the standard cost of an 1980's room. Luckily we had the spa offered gratis to us make up for failures in other areas. Even then, the over all experience was still poor. I found the hotel more expensive that other 5star hotels that include all of the 'extras' offered here. Other hotels even include amazing things like Air conditioning, breakfast, real coffee and tranquility at no 'extra' cost.
Cons: The whole process from entering through what looks like the back end of an old NHS hospital through to the lack of 'functioning' facilities that were advertised, was quite astounding. I have only ever once had to complain to a hotel previously. I found myself continually asking for the basic facilities to be supplied. They continually failed to deliver. If you want instant coffee and builders mugs in your room, along with the room itself being a sauna. Then I'm sure you will love it here.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything beautiful hotel lovely staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast catered for all tastes. The location was perfect for the New Forest bus tours. The staff were kind and helpful. The spa and the Thai restaurant made my short break very special.
Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Careys Manor is nestled close to the new forest area which is probably one of the best places in the UK. The location is very good and is close to the river. The staff is very helpful and the hotel has a good choice of restaurants.
Cons: The breakfast could be a little better and wide choices

7.0 Good
Cons: Was in roof space room and was extremely warm with very small windows and poor air circuit
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast o/k, Evening meal o/k, more choices of food would be a good move. Perhaps some sandwiches and rolls in the evening.
Cons: I had room 18. it had everything you needed in it. One failing point is the room being situated above the kitchen, making the room very warm also the extractor fans are activated at 6.40am on the adjoining roof and don't get turned of until 22.00pm. (you don't need an alarm clock). Another safety point is the two levels in the bathroom. After you use the sink and turn to go into the bedroom you tend to forget about the step down in front of you. This wants marking on the floor and a notice warning you.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful, pet friendly hotel in the New Forest. The staff was wonderful, the food was great, we will definitely be back.
Cons: N/A

Pros: breakfast was great
Cons: No Worcester sauce for a Bloody Mary! in the bar or kitchen - not a major problem.....
6.3 Good
Cons: Noisey by Road. Room too hot if window shut
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly. The down stairs had lovely places to relax or have a drink.
Cons: The bedrooms were small and one single room in particular was felt very small and claustrophobic and had a very noisy generator outside. Sadly we didn't look in the cupboards because our stay was short and we didn't notice the fans so were also very hot as they rooms were very warm.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant if a little expensive for what it is.
Cons: Golfers interfering and taking over the place a bit too much.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Well decorated, friendly staff.
Cons: Quite expensive for a small room with no breakfast included.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was brilliant! A true Hilton. The staff gave us an complimentary upgrade and put a card and balloons in our room for our anniversary
Cons: I didn’t like the fact that the wedding party that were arriving at the same time as us got priority over everybody else in the reception area.... I was shocked that given we were staying we still had to pay £35 per person to use the spa area.... fitness facility and the hydro pool. It would be great to use that for free and then we may have used the extra cash to have a treatment!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great steak at Beefy’s
Cons: Small space for the buffet

10.0 Excellent
Pros: As usual...great stay. Scores speak for themselves. Staff great..polite, helpful and smiling
4.5 Okay
Pros: The spa, therapists and other employees in there were absolutely lovely, very friendly and helpful. Treatment was great!
Cons: On arriving we were greeted by what we consider as a judgemental woman. As I visit Hilton’s hotels at least once a year I’m aware of the procedure upon arrival and I can confidently say I’ve never been greeted by such an unwelcoming person in all my stays. It was our first time at Ageas Bowl, my partners first time to a Hilton, it was a break to celebrate our engagement. Sadly, the woman at the front desk disrupted our excitement completely, also insisted we paid beforehand and told us we weren’t able to charge anything to our room. Without a good reason, we can only believe she judged us incorrectly. We later had dinner in the Beefy’s restaurant where we were charged and extortionate amount for food that was below average and over done. The staff were again not welcoming at all and the waiter left various items off our bill which we asked him to add on, which proves again that we were poorly judged on arrival. With an order to not ask for room service or charge anything to our room, we spent the majority of our time travelling down to the bar and back up to the room to get refreshments. We also asked at reception for information on the spa, to which a male member of staff responded ‘I don’t know it opens at 9 tomorrow’ and turned his back on us. The front of house staff all seemed to have a severe lack of people skills and completely ruined our experience. They belittled us and made us feel unwelcome and embarrassed. In all honesty, it was a waste of a large amount of money and completely ruined our engagement.

9.1 Excellent
Pros: Super-friendly staff. Their local knowledge was really helpful to us. The new menu was absolutely delicious! The hotel is undergoing refurbishment but their efforts to minimise disruption is really appreciated - we barely noticed and didn't hear a hammer or drill when we were there, but did see one or two workmen.
Cons: The bed was very firm but the staff were very friendly when approached and gave us another duvet without any hesitation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming and helpful staff. Rooms very comfortable with good bathrooms.
Cons: Evening waitress needs to know the menu and not argue with the guestsķ.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was gorgeous, Staff were very very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was also very nice.
Cons: The ambient music that was played into the dining area downstairs could be heard from our room quite loudly. As my wife is heavily pregnant we arranged this weekend away to relax and catch up on some rest. We went to bed on the Saturday evening before 10pm only to have to wait til nearly 12am for this music to be turned off before we could sleep. This music was also turned on in the mornings for breakfast, and the speaker was located next to the ceiling right below our room in the dining area, so no chance of a lie in either. Also, possibly my fault for not checking the list of amenities provided in our room, but when you book a "luxury double room" you kind of expect a fridge to keep our drinks cold and also, there was no air cooling/conditioning system. Both nights were rather warm and uncomfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice modern facilities in a beautiful old house. Lovely garden and close to the forest and the village of Brockenhurst so very convenient. Lovely and quiet at night for a relaxing sleep in comfortable beds
