Leaving Hotel and rooms were in desperate need of repair.
Good parking No tv remote control
Stayed at the hotel for a family function which was good and the catering and bar staff were good. It is a lovely building in a great location but its a bit run down and in need of investment.
recptionist No tv, cold room
We had a quick and hastle free, check in and out. Our en suite room was great
Breakfast was good, some of rooms were tired but comfortable all the same. If it is a no frills room for the night, this is ideal.
Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was also good and Scottish breakfast is worth having. Very functional place. No remote control for the TV, the fan in the bathroom kept cutting in and out. The shower was intermittant and the bed was particularly uncomfortable
Room clean and comfortable. Shower had mixer taps, not easy to get desired temperatue.
The food was not great. In particular, the evening meal in the restaurant was poor.
The food and the hotel staff, We did not have any chairs in our room , we had to sit on our bed .
Everything ; nice place, excellent hospitality from the personnel
Luxurious bedlinen, coal fire in suite, antique furnishing with country house wallpapers and drapes. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Would definately return. No
The properrty is furnished to a very high standard and has lots of character. no

Everything - hosts very helful & friendly & romm fabulous No
The warm welcome given was lovely & the owners had thhought of everything to make our stay special
Everything. The setting was outstanding and the staff were extremely helpful. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast is something special. no.
This was the most incredible place, absolutely astoundingly wonderful. Where to begin: the gorgeous location, the elegant old house, the fabulouse suite, the enormouse bathroom with a big soaking tub, the details like the reading rack on the tub, the fluffy bathrobes, the excellent bath products including foaming bath milk, the fire laid ready to light in the hearth, the most comfortable bed EVER with custom embroidered bedding, the most wonderful and elegant breakfast in the gorgeous dining room. What was not to love?
The high level of comfort, large amount of private space and the high level of service. Access to the well stocked pantry.
We had a wonderful 2 nights in the ground floor suite. We wish we could have stayed longer. The owners were delightful and very hospitable. we intend to return in the near future.
The food and the friendliness of the staff and owner. It is very peaceful We were given a double room instead of a twin but we were quite happy with the double
4 poster bath had carpet , always a bad iead for hygiene, mold on the bathroom ceiling
Location and facilities
Very comfortable, excellent location, good breakfasts, and friendly helpful staff. The hotel is a bit "tired" overall. Was undergoing some work during this time, which also meant it was a bit short on facilities.
All hotels in this area are expensive. Full Breakfast at £12.50 is not out of line, but far too much for simple breakfast.
The manager managed to change my booking from single to double at short notice & at a very reasonable rate. 3 staff members were very friendly & helpful. Nothing
Only stayed one night so too little time to make a judgement inability to have a bar snack rather than a fully blown dinner.
Staff were very friendly and attentive Rooms were not soundproof and could hear conversation from room next door
Friendly staff, comfortable rooms & excellent menu
Lovely relaxed atmosphere of Scottish country house hotel - plus great food
The staff were all welcoming, friendly & helpful. For our 1-night stay, the room we had was stunning & had a king-size bed, great TV etc. Then, for our breakfast there was a splendid choice of continental & full Scottish. In the lounge, there was a lovely open log fire to relax beside before we checked out. Our stay couldn't have been better & we just wish it could have been 1 or 2 more nights.
We had been allocated a room which had just been renovated and was very comfortable. Nothing
well positioned, quiet and peaceful but close enough to walk into town in a few minutes.Friendly staff and good food. Some parts of hotel require updating.
Staff, surroundings, coal fire None
generally `ok with our visit - hotel was understaffed but staff were very pleasant and obliging. `room very good. But small things need to be improved eg no soap in bathroom, lack of hot water in shower etc. Meals not outstanding but adequate. We liked the general atmosphere in the hotel.. Traditional rather than modern. No musak no feeling of being in a chain hotel. Just fix the little things to be an outstanding experience.
Relaxing experience, welcoming friendly & efficient staff, beautiful surroundings, lovely food. Nothing
The friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
The food is excellent and the dining room is very attractive. The shower wasn't good - the water pressure was very low, which resulted in a dribble.
Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, good location
Lovely, welcoming place with a friendly and accommodating staff. Great food, warm and comfortable rooms with fabulous surrounding countryside. Short (5 minutes) walk to Ballater town centre.
clean rooms, very pleasant staff, good food, good value, very nice town
Staff, food & general atmosphere No
Friendly service, convenient position. Refurbishment needs to be completed
Food was fantastic and wonderful friendly staff.
Staff were very friendly and the location was excellent - close to good walks, Balmoral and the Royal Lochnagar distillery and the shops in Ballater itself. The hotel interior was very pleaseant - clean and contemporary - and the food was superb. The only thing that could have been improved was the shower. Water pressure was surprisingly low - good power shower would have been in keeping with everything else that the hotel delivers.
The accomadation was excellent with the setting of the hotel and also the personnel of the hotel were friendly and very approachable. The food was also very good with a variety on the menu for everybody's needs. Also the bar facility was good with a good sitting area for a quite drink. Would stay again The only negative thing which was not a major thing was the shower in the room we could not get a constant heat it varied from very hot to cold. Apart from that nothing else to critise.
Welcoming, clean and comfortable. The food is second to none - probably the best I have had in a very long time. Worth visiting to eat even if they are fully booked!
An exceptionally well-run hotel, making the most of its good facilities and excellent location.
friendliness of the staff and the food was first class, also the comfort of the room
Food was good Slightly chilly weather is always a sore point and we tend to have our own houses too hot hence older buildings are colder.
The hotel was in a quiet location. There was ample opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside . It was well placed to visit other areas of interest by car.Relaxing stay. The dining conservetory was rather cold.
Friendly atmosphere and nice surroundings no
Very pleasant & comfortable room. Charming owners. Good location & well run. Delicious breakfast No
pleasant and comfortable hotel no
Friendly relaxed atmosphere
Bathroom needed updating suite did not match and flooring looked auwful long walk to get to room from reception several corridors and lots of stairs
The staff and location were fantastic. Breakfast was really good with a huge choice of both hot and cold foods.
Easy to find and reception very helpful Mould in bathroom, noise from outside as the skip was taken away at 6am. Sevice in the restaurant poor and main course dinner was bland.
Staff friendly and helpful. Good food and clean room Had to wait 10 minutes for a breakfast table Room had a view into a back work yard
The pool was outstanding great afternoon spent there The food at breakfast was cold and was not changed when I reported it. + I think its a shame that none of the Hilton hotels stock Smirnoff vodka just this cheep sky vodka.
Noisy room, poor maintenance, thin walls
The kindness and politeness of the staff at reception and in restaurants despite lack of training (their comments!) It was disappointing but there was absence of any senior management to talk to and what seemed their apparent failure to correct so many irritating problems which any modern quality hotelier would have seen by hands on control
Good breakfast and bar restaurant. Has nice swimming facility. The bathroom was very small. Heated towel rack located too close to toilet.
Food was very good Bed was broken and noise from pump for pool prevented my husband getting a good nights sleep
Food excellent staff really helpfull hotel good None
The welcome and service by the staff and the food was excellent The hotel is in need of refurbishment. Though to be fair the painter had started on the entrance foyer, and there was paint samplers on the walls of the public areas
Food eas excellent, and location is beautiful Rooms need upgrading
The staff were very friendly and the hotel was set in beautiful grounds. The hotel was very good value as well.
We liked the old charm of the hotel - our "attic" bedroom was huge with a huge comfortable bed with lovely linen and a large bathroom . views over the grounds and countryside were lovely . Though, we didnt dine in, the menue read well and had been recommended by other friends It looks like the hotel has been rundown over the years (it used to be top grade) . The current owners seem to be on a refurbishment programme- it will take a while, good luck
the first room I was shown was a bit shabby, but the receptionist happily upgraded me to another room which was beautiful. Evening dinner was the best I had had in many months and staff extremely accommodating. Thankyou First bedroom I was shown was not very nice and I would not have been happy if I had stayed in that room
The restaurant was excellent. Overall ambiance very good. Stairs were a small problem - I'd suffered a pulled calf muscle a week before my stay. Room was not as well appointed as I would have liked.
The staff were all very welcoming & accomodating.
Location and room No
The mattress were rather soft compared to our own ones at home but probably suited the average user perfectly well. We also requested a twin room but got two singles made into a double which was not too comfortable. But that would not stop me from using this hotel again, and they were very apologetic
Breakfast was lovely. surroundings could have been better..only grass cut and no real landscaping..This hotel could have beautiful gardens if they spent time on it. The beds were not comfortable and sunken in the middle, wallpaper was peeling off, finishing around bath - dirty silicon sealant.
