8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Bar Food Service.
Cons: The breakfast self-service was cold , the food heaters etc do not keep food warm enough.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Very noisy. Dud not have what was written on the tin as an executive room as it was simply a double bed room with 2 bath robes couple of galaxy chocolate bars and missing slippers and complimentary water bottles which they brought later after complaint
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A difficult time due to coronavirus and it was vbery quiet. But was made very welcome just a strange atmosphere because of everything going on in the world and not many people in the hotel.
Cons: Nothing that was out of order. The only mention was in out bathroom the condition of the toilet seat and sink (but nothing to bad).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love this place - friendly staff, nice food and great location. Oh, nice pool too.
7.0 Good
Pros: Comfy bed, food and staff lovely. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was really good too.
Cons: The hotel is a little dated and needs some new furnishings. I hate shower curtains they blow and stick to your skin and all the peoples that have stayed before you these should be screens that can be cleaned.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was ideal.
Cons: On arrival to the room, we had to head back to reception as the toilet roll hadn't been replenished. I had to clean the bathroom as there was hairs in the bathtub and my partner found the mattress very uncomfortable and is currently experiencing back pain.

7.1 Good
Pros: The receptionist was very helpful, friendly and efficient. Nice comfy bed and reasonably clean room. The breakfast was nice and had a very good variety.
Cons: The pool and spa area were dirty it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned all day. A dirty changing room is the biggest put off ever. ( I only booked this hotel to use these facilities and it make me feel ill so I didn’t) I had to ask for hand soap for my room, I honestly think it’s a standard hotel but £125 was really overpriced for what I got and I wouldn’t return.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Both adult and kids Menu is very limited, but apart from that it was lovely.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel, clean everywhere, staff very polite and friendly. The receptionist kindly up graded our room because it was quiet on a Sunday night. Breakfast area was very clean with an excellent variety of dishes, staff were very polite and helpful.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
6.0 Good
Pros: The bed was super comfortable and the shower was fantastic the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The food was not very nice and very over priced we had noisey guests running through the halls quite late at night perhaps family should be accommodated on a separate floor or wing
7.0 Good
Pros: Good location, food in the bar/restaurant ok, room adequate
Cons: Some staff in the restaurant a little frosty and inefficient on Friday night
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Reception staff that’s it
Cons: Very rude restaurant staff Forgot food Got food wrong and blamed my 5 year old!!! Dirty bathroom
7.0 Good
Pros: Quick check in. Husband and son went to pool.
Cons: Shame food didn't start in the restaurant until 18.30, as was too late, so we went elsewhere. And we had to leave at 6.30 in the morning for an event, so missed breakfast which didn't start until 7.00.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Room big and clean. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the gallery. Pool good size. Would stay again.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very stylish
Cons: Some of furniture in room a little tired
7.9 Good
Pros: Very beautiful area, views from the rooms are lovely. The food was good- nothing too amazing but was nice. The down stairs bar was really cosy with a open fire in the middle. It’s a bit run down in places and parts of the room was a bit tired looking. The pool is a decent size and heated, sauna and steam room was nice - plenty of loungers too. Staff were all really polite and friendly. We got a good price for the night & didn’t have any treatments if we’d pay full price spa package we would of been very upset that no one tells you kids use the pool from 4-6pm - it’s on your key card holder when you book in though (really annoyed at that!)
Cons: NO WHERE DOES IT TELL YOU WHEN YOU BOOK THAT AT 4pm until 6pm CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS TAKE OVER THE POOL. It was so quiet & relaxing, we checked in at 2pm and headed straight for the pool 2 hours later parents and kids and children’s swimming lessons started it really did spoil it. All the staff were polite and if there was anything else it would of truly ruined our nights break. Not something I would expect from a relaxing spa break- we were looking forward to laying on the loungers and watching the sunset but had to go upto the room because the noise from children were just a joke. We won’t return simply for that reason alone but if that doesn’t bother you it’s a nice break.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The building is so modern and wonderful. Staff are so helpful. Although funny story..... ended up in someone else’s room at check in as they had not booked the room out as occupied. Hilarious
Cons: Please invest in air con! It’s so hot in the rooms
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is well designer and has everything a business traveller would need. Very clean. Good shower.
Cons: The bed was very obviously two singles zipped together and room was very warm even though the radiator wasn't on. Some of the serving team were not very confident but it is a teaching hotel so hopefully that will come.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, close to the university of Essex (15min walking). Relatively quiet, most of the time as I was studying. Very clean and had hand sanitizer in the room. I found staff were accommodating in the restaurant (as I am coeliac) and provided me with some good GF options. Also found the hotel to be accommodating with my request for a late check out.
Cons: It was a bit hot at times in the rooms but other than that lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff definitely made this break for us! So friendly, helpful and welcoming. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Room was beautiful and cocktails were delicious.
Cons: Morning breakfast wasn’t good - raw sausage - but was quickly rectified with a replacement. Maybe better portions/hotter if we had gone to the restaurant rather than order room service.

4.0 Okay
Pros: Good location
Cons: Room was quite dirty and expected this to be cleaned to a better standard. Also, heating was not working in the room so the room was really cold to sleep in.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room ws comfortable, the breakfast was tasty & there was a wide choice. Bathroom facilities good, Some areas of hotel looking a little tired,
Cons: Noisy guests returning at 3am - 4am with no regards for other guests. Overall the hotel was very warm
4.6 Okay
Pros: Clean fresh bedding and comfy bed. Modern bathroom Plenty of tea coffees in room Free WiFi Enjoyed breakfast Young lady who waitressed in morning very pleasant and helpful
Cons: Chairs in room very uncomfortable need better chairs. Quite hot in the room even at low temp on radiator. Bit dusty around some of the furniture, chair seats and headboards. Worst of all toilet did not flush very well and this caused a blockage! There were some groups of young ladies and men who returned at 3.30 am and were very loud , they even had their room door open and were having very loud conversations on speaker!! Nightmare . But the man on reception did come up and ask them to be quiet after we asked him too. Eventually they shut up. Recommend that they do not accept groups of this age etc. Spoilt our nights sleep. Went down for breakfast on Sunday 9.15 and no croissants was told it would take 15 mins so didn’t bother. Finally the last step at the bottom of the staircase from the rooms was concealed by the carpet. Just a small sign on the inside of the wall, this was not enough. Please could you make this step more visible my father tumbled off the step and I know if you had put visible signs up it would not have happened. Realise it is old building but the the secondary glazing was still inadequate as the original windows did not shut and there big gaps and the wind whistled in. Not sure if you would be able to ventilate in the summer?
7.0 Good
Cons: Bathroom skylight didn’t shut properly so draughty
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff
Cons: Too hot!

Cons: Poorly executed paint job

Cons: The was very tired and in need of decorating. The window was broken and wouldn’t close. The curtain pole fell down when you opened and closed the curtains.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There were no croissants Really smart rooms with a modern touch
Cons: Nothing! It was beyond perfect
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nothing atall won't be back
Cons: Rooms need a serious revamp especially the bathroom which was like an aeroplane lavatory also needs a good wash as stinks of curry throughout which is due to an indian restaurant below which we were un aware of being there till we arrived overall was overpriced for wat u get as very much resembles a crack den in its present state
1.0 Poor
Cons: The bed was not comfortable, on the wall next to the bed here was 'strange' liquid patches. The headboard of the bed fell off as only a wooden bit was holding it in place. There was a room above ours as well and I heard every step what the person in that room took. The floor was very squeaky in our room and in the hallway too.

Cons: Breakfast wasn’t served until 8:30 - too late for me
Brook Red Lion Hotel - Colchester - Building

Featured amenities include a business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable.
Cons: The room that we had directly overlooked the road and we had to have all the windows open as 2 of the 3 radiators in the room couldn't be turned off. It was unfortunately a Saturday night and the taxi rank serving the main town nightclub was under our window. The nightclub was loud but the amount of noise from the road was incredible - until about 5am and involved fights, smashing glass, honking horns and the early morning rubbish collection. Room 1 or 2 would be affected by this, not sure about the other rooms. The city centre location is very convenient if you need to be there but the nearest car park is some distance away so getting luggage there is a pain. The room has seen better days but was reasonable value for money.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was a lovely old building with quirky floors and a fabulous breakfast room. Some reviews had moaned about the upkeep of the hotel, I thought it was alright, as nice as the one I was in last week that was twice the price.
Cons: I had a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the taxi rank. This was fine until 3.30 am when all the bars turned out. It was quite noisy for 45 minutes. I had no trouble getting back to sleep after that.
7.0 Good
Pros: Comfortable room and excellent Location
Cons: poor internet connection due to the distant location of the room from the rooter not due to the hotel's wifi
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Old historical house
Cons: Cold in the room. Bathroom in very bad condition. Smell of the old house
1.0 Poor
Cons: Really bad customer services. I have had one of the worst experiences. I wouldn’t recommend the property to anyone.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was warm. Lovely bathroom products. Clean and cosy. Cute decor. Sweet receptionist. Next to convenient shops. Gorgeous historic building.
Cons: My wake up call was late.

5.0 Okay
Pros: It's location being at the side of the river and in town was perfect
Cons: It was more run down than the pictures I looked at suggested . The outside of the building looked tired and in need of painting and the inside needed totally redecorating , plaster was falling off the ceiling and paint peeling off the walls . Also the windows were single glazed wooden frames with mold on the inside and as it's on a busy main road , the noise from the traffic was quite loud

5.8 Okay
Pros: You get what you pay for and this is a proper budget/ compact property (can’t really call it a hotel, it’s more like student accommodation) There was some complimentary water, orange juice and yoghurts in the fridge.
Cons: Stairs were very steep (not good for disabled people), bed was very small, the heating was on full blast when we went into the room, meaning it was far too hot. One of the bottles of water had already been opened and had some a fair bit missing. There was black mould around the window frame and the shower was incredibly temperamental.
7.1 Good
Pros: We initially booked as the 24 hour access was perfect for us due to going out until the early hours. We were welcomed to a warm cosy room with adequate facilities to prepare for a night out and rest upon return. The location is not far from town and off road parking is a bonus
Cons: The tv was a little small compared to the distance from the headboard. Stairs quite steep if you have had a few alcoholic beverages
