It was a shitshow. We arrived at the FBO in Cancun and were told we needed to take a taxi to Payless ($40us). We arrived at a rundown looking place with Payless on the awning and it was closed. Told by the cab driver they’d closed because they had rented all their cars out😳. Anyway, after a series of encounters we were persuaded to take a “taxi” to Tulum ($150us) where could rent “much cheaper “. In the end, having read reviews of Payless and the dubious practices of both car rental companies and police in Mexico we elected not to rent a car. In retrospect assuming that the place we were taken was an old Payless, if so they should remove their signage completely!Reviewed 17 Jan 2024

Was refused reservation on arriving to collect the car. Had to rent a car from another car rental at double the rate. Worst service and experience. Unreliable!Reviewed 8 Jan 2024

Cons:Online rental price is good, everything else is tinged with dishonesty and fees. Extra days are 2-3 times the rental rate. Car condition and damage is dealt with in an off-hand manner when leaving, but with great care upon return.Reviewed 10 Jan 2021

Cons:They will charge $35/ day more for collision damage wavier and $32/ day for liability insurance. I was able to decline cdw as my credit card covers it but liability insurance was compulsory. Later I found out there are many rentals which give liability insurance for free. So check that out. Don't get Carried away by the low price. And ya they will charge 10% extra for airport rentals + 4% extra for using credit card :-\Reviewed 8 Jan 2019

DO NOT GET THE PRICELINE/KAYAK INSURANCE!Cons:The insurance you buy online does not apply to your insurance on the ground. Overall, a total headache. But the minivan was good.Reviewed 11 Nov 2018

Mexico Payless RentalPros:Friendliness of staff, new and clean carCons:No one told me the car rental location was ten minutes away from airport. Pros:It had 4 wheels and fit our family of 4 and bags. Nice red color and air conditioning worked.Cons:Radio didn't work, Car was banged up everywhere, automatic nothing including windows, mid size car was actually only for 4 passengers. Car had over 90k miles on it. Paid at least twice the quoted amount after fees and insurance.Reviewed 29 Dec 2017

SchmeservationPros:It had 4 wheels.Cons:We reserved a 12 passenger van. They didn't have this and had to give us 2 separate vehicles and promised us they would bring us the van in the next 2 days. This didn't happen and we had to make contact again and FINALLY got the van we had reserved. Kayak quoted us $250 and the actual price was $680.Reviewed 8 Apr 2017
