Great location. Easy to get to places being near the train station
The room was clean. comfortable and nicely furnished.
Very comfortable bed The frosted glass walls of the bathroom!
Clearness of the room, design of the interior, location
Hotel location and near train station
Location Attitude of the staff
Good location. By Paris standards good price/quality ratio.Comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff. Nothing
Well located and very nice and spacious room Parking challenging and not possible to stop in front of the hotel
The bed Bathroom was a bit pokey
The hotel is centrally located, walking distance to the Lyon train station is a big plus, the hotel in general is very clean and the decoration is charming. The front desk staff is very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The bed is very comfortable and the room size for 3 persons is good. The amenities in the room are great: Nespresso coffee maker, water, small fridge, and the toiletries are of good quality. The only thing we did not like at all is that the restroom door is made out of glass and is pretty see through!! There is no privacy!! We had to place a towel on the door railing for privacy and my son even turned off the light when he was taking a shower!! I recommend that a curtain is put in place to cover the glass door!! Specially when the door is in a diagonal position facing the bed. I was laying down in bed and could see my son's silhouette in the restroom!! This alone would keep me from staying at this hotel again.
Location ideal for Gare de Lyon
helpful and pleasant staff
very friendly staff very narrow elevator and staircase, no room for too much lageges.
The location vas excellent. The smell in the room.
Excellent location, clean room. The air conditioning made a horrendous noise (not the one in our room but the general air conditioning system, which meant there was no escape). The staff turned the whole system off at our request (luckily it was not very hot those days) but my impression was that this was an old problem that nobody was trying to sort out. So, if air conditioning is a must for you this may not be the best hotel.
Staff was great
The staff was pleasant enough, and I did need a similar location. It was convenient to use booking.com. I did not like the fact that the hotel was overpriced, with the room so small it was impossible for two people to move around in the space. Rates seemed to vary wildly, based on which night was booked. The web site was somewhat deceptive as to what you were getting for that price. It was not a good value as compared to the others we stayed at in the same area, such as Hotel Nice and Hotel Place Des Vosges. The hotel lacked charm, convenience or value: any of the reasons for booking a 2 star place.
staff were very helpful and friendly, comfortable bed, good size room, clean, hotel located in quiet area, especially at night. (except that there's a school opposite, but it doesn't seem to start till after 8). roomy and clean bathroom with shower! very close to two metro stations. no space for suitcase except on the floor. small elevator that took us two trips to get our two bags up.
Location! Clean enouh! Price are UGLy! 0Verpriced very much! So small space for big money! Everyone want to live better on the west..but not like this way .....
Friendly staff. Big room for Paris. Close to metro and walking to Le marais district. Not luxurious, but good value for money. Great food near by. Elevator broke down while we were there and had 24/24 of walking up to 7th floor. However they fixed it promptly. And at least they had a lift!
Convenient location Smallness of room -- and the great difficulty of manhandling luggage in elevator and on awkward staircase.
Location was great. There were 2 bottles of water when we got to the room but there was no water offered to us after that. We ended up heating the tap water and chilling it outside the window before drinking it. Very beautiful room though. Friendly staff. Small room. No iron in the room.
It was in a fabulous position, in the heart of the Marais and close to the metro, but still relatively quiet. The "wake-up" callls were extremely unreliable.
Location. It was not "recently renovated", The furniture was shabby, the carpets stained, and the morning breakfast staff most unpleasant.
The location. I stayed for 2 nights and the first one we didn´t have hot water so not chance to have a shower. The room is really small and the renovation in 2009 is not real....
The room was like a home away from home; nothing incredibly fancy but you feel right at home. It was nice to find a hotel that had a bath. The location was excellent and the staff very friendly. All the shops and bars are within walking distance. The room was fairly small but what do you expect for a city hotel – you’re not really spending that much time in there to be fair. The bed was very comfortable. The walls were very thin and you could hear dull conversations from the next room but it wasn’t intrusive. There was a really strong air freshener smell when we entered the room. Nothing wrong with a room smelling nice but this was very overpowering.
The staff was quite nice. Facilities were a bit average.
The area and proximity to venues of interest
Location is convinient. Easy to get to Metro station and some of the sights with walking distance. In front of the Hotel there is a wonderfull fish restaurant, every wednesday they have Oysters party! Must visit!!! Small room and poor breakfast.
The hotel is very comfortable and the staff most helpful. It is near to a Metro station and very convenient to walk around much of Paris from the hotel.
In the heart of Le Merais area and easy to go anywhere i liked
proximity to Le Marais rooms very clean a little noisy due to situation erratic daily change of towels, e.g. sometimes 2 bath towels, soem other times, on1 bath but 2 hand towels, at others, no hand towels....
location jr suite very small, room could have been cleaner, lift was slow to inoperable because it was the only for guest and cleaning staff
It was clean The personnel was helpful and considerate
the cleanliness of the room, its quietness (I had a room at the back), its warmth and the quality of the bedding/bed the room was very small for a double. I stayed on my own so it was no poblem but for a couple with suitcases space would definitely be at a premium.
Bastille De Launay is clean and comfortable. Good location near the Bastille. Rooms were compact but ok
Fridge did not work
Very helpful and polite staff. Room quite small but pleasant and with good bathroom / shower. Generally very clean. This is a decent and reasonably priced hotel in central Paris, something which can be hard to find. There was a problem with a smell from some of the bedclothes but we mentioned it and the bed was changed straight away and no further problems. The hotel is very near the Marais and the Bastille but the immediate surrounding area is a bit dull.
the location they overcharged me with 3 breakfasts/day for 2bed room
They were very accomodating for our family-- switched rooms around so our boys would be more comfortable. The staff was very nice to us, friendly, helpful. Good location, very European feel and yet easy for non-French-speaking tourists. Quiet. We have absolutely no complaints!!
great locatioon (not in the typical tourist areas) that was easy to get to, lots of nice restaurants nearby and fairly safe feeling neighbourhood the breakfast was expensive, wouuldn't recommend it, try one of the nearby pastisserie's instead
Closeness to le Marais and Bastille air condition did not work satisfactory
Location, Excellent staff, free wifi
The room although smallish was very comfortable, shower was fantastic. Very nice courtyard None
We found the staff very friendly and helpful, we loved the location and we really liked the fact we could make ourselves tea or coffee during the day in the dining room. We were very pleased with our stay!
Free WIFI, great location, close to Rue Rivoli (shopping street) it has so many cafes and nearby restaurants and bars. Clean room and bathroom. nothing!
Castex Hotel is in an excellent location near both the Bastille as well as Marais districts. The gentleman working at the front desk was both cheerful and very helpful in offering suggestions for things to see and do in the area. The hotel felt worn out a bit. While there, the elevator stopped working for a couple of days and there were problems with internet connectivity. Also, the breakfast was not very good...essentially bread and cereal only...not worth the extra charge.
Responsiveness of the host to our needs. Rate seemed a little high for the quality of the hotel and its facilities
Friendly welcome 24hr concierge wasn't - almost didn't make it back into the hotel returning back one evening as he was fast asleep!
The location was excellent - A very short walk to the underground metro and the Place de Bastille The "suite" was very small and cramped for three adults. It was not worth the money. We stayed at hotels in London, Prague and Zurich. This was the most expensive and the most cramped of the three.
Friendly staff, comfortable room, good location
clean, with aa nice bathroom. good location. the room was somewhat small, which is to be expected for the price and location.
A very nice stay at the Castex - the hotel is in a fabulous location for the Marais very close to Bastille and major sights. I had a small room (typical for Paris) off the courtyard but it was comfortable, well equipped and very warm in freezing temperatures. There were free newspapers available at reception and lots of good maps, etc. Breakfast was fairly basic but adequate. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Due to a general blackout in Paris we had no hot water one morning and the hotel offered a free breakfast to compensate - much appreciated given it wasn't their fault. A nice touch and one that shows they care about their guests! Room rather small but this is typical for Paris - tea/coffee facility in the room would be a nice touch.
Within walking distance of Gare de Lyon station. Helpful and friendly staff.
The hotel did not have parking within the vicinity, room was small ( the internet said it was suitable to four persons). The room key had to be left at the front desk each time you left the hotel. This posed some concerns about the security of our belongings.
Rooms were clean, bathroom was clean, price was good but due probably to an overbooking the gave me a 3beds room instead of a single room, therefore of course the price was good. WIFI not always working at the 3rd floor.
The guy at reception at night was kind. It took long time to get hot water at bath. ( be patience more than 15 min after you opened the tap!)
Nothing. There is no possibility to open the window. I can understand that this is the demand of police. But why there is no air conditioning??? I can not understand this. Have you ever tried to stay in the room 307 at least one night? No? You should try!!!
good location, friendly staff and price
Room was clean, toilet was clean, good strong hot uninterrupted shower, bed slept well. Location is pretty good if you have to be at Bercy or close to Gare de Lyon. Staff was helpful and friendly. No noise from the street. The room (020) was small, old, and in a bad state. It is cheap, but the price is high (It is worth 25-35 a night, not the 69 we paid and certainly not the 115 euro they write on the door). No door to the bathroom, only some patched-up fold curtain. Noise from the hall. Room 010 was the same but had a door between bathroom and bedroom.
The location was great. The metro is just a short walk away. Good places to eat nearby.
great location and polite staff a bit pricy; not very soundproof so the noise can be annoying
Comfortable beds, always plenty of hot water, sufficient provision for basic needs.
friendly staff, clean room, great location the colour of the paint on the walls, to many paintings everywhere.
The district that the hotel was in, not the street. Opposite an ambulance station (sirens), heating controls - or lack of them.
Friendly and helpful staff; excellent location round the corner from St Paul metro station and taxi rank. Very near the lovely Place de Vosges also - great shops and restaurants. Like all hotels in Paris that I have seen, this one was pricey enough without being at all luxurious. The rooms were very small and a bit dowdy. There was a fair amount of noise from the street early in the morning. But that's just how it is in that city - the world outside makes up for it.
Excellent location; within walking distance to the Louvre and only a 2-minute walk to the Metro. Hotel was easy to find and a parking garage is located just down the street. The staff was very friendly and helpful; gave us maps with instructions on how to reach further sights.
good location, easy access to public transport, Wifi access accommocation was rather small, especially the bath room
good location, friendly staff, good air conditioning small, charmless
The location of the hotel and the fact that it has 4 stars when the facilities perhaps suggest 3 stars.
Friendly night staff, room and garage We noticed the underground metro as well as the light transformers do not let you sleep well. Electrical noise.
Good location, nicely furnished, very friendly staff
The lovely relaxing ambience, breakfast and great position Some of the staff had difficulty dealing with some of our queries. Others were very efficient and very personable and polite.
front desk disorganized--booked transport and as a result of not telling me cash was required caused airport hassle. now hassle about a key given to shuttle driver. they claim i lost...not happy poor communications
the area. the staff were rude and unhelpful, it was run like a hostel. it was incredibly overpriced, and there were no benefits to staying there and for the price it was - i would have been treated the same at a backpackers
The rooms are large Noisy from both the Metro and other rooms. No information available regarding Paris. Very poor when compared with other hotels we have stayed in around Paris.
Staff was helpful; good location; nice bathroom Room safe was broken
suitable hotel location, comfort, peace no big problems
Everything was very nice. Rooms are very comfortable. Nice position, not far from Bastille
This was the 2nd time I have stayed at the hotel. I like the location in the Marais, it is in a quiet area but close to a lot of places. It has reasonable prices for central Paris. I like that it is small and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Great walking access to sights, as well as to 5 Metro lines. Close to lots of great food too. Large room and bathroom with good shower. My bed was a little hard. Consider adding a feather mattress cover.
The location was excellent. Easy to shops, metro, entertainment. Very helpful inkeepers. Quaint and romantic.
Comfortable room, good bed, shower with great water pressure, excellent location to key Paris areas of interest Lack of free wifi and need to purchase online time - computer for guest use was old and slow
My room was preety big, and the bathroom was excellent! The metro station of Sully Morland was quite close, what was a nice but I wouldn´t stay there again. I found some leftovers from previous ccupants (hairclips, pins, etc) on the floor what made obvious that the room hadn´t been cleaned. My room was in a 4th floor and there was no lift what made the arriving (and leaving) a bit painfull...
Genuine air of the Marais district. Nice staff. Rooms are quite modern. Little noise from outside or neighbouring rooms. No guest elevator. Bathroom is cramped. Only 1 hour breakfast opening time. Broken light fixture. Stairwell is a bit tatty. Few amenities; E.G. bar, pool, etc.
Very helpful staff, gave excellent recommendations. Also very nice breakfast. One of the 3 rooms we had booked had mould in the shower. The rest was OK>
Excellent location, great value, helpful staff, our double superior room was spacious for a Paris hotel room, great hot water pressure, sound-proofed windows and relatively quiet street, wonderful area restaurants, shopping, and convenient to Metro. We will stay there again. This historic hotel does not have an elevator nor air-conditioning which we knew when we booked the hotel. It would be helpful if they added towel racks to the nicely tiled bathrooms so that you can use the towels more than once. Also, they need to add free wi-fi, but no major complaints.
It was close to city tourist sights and the Seine River so were able to travel within the city easily. Staff were very helpful providing information when asked. We had a very small room the first night of our first booking, when we returned after a week the room size was better, but we chose a superior size room.
Traditional feel of the Hotel, its quiet location, while being close to interesting things to see and walk around. Handy for shopping, markets, les deux isles. The staff were very nice and efficient. The bath was a bit shabby. Maybe because the weather was so cold it would have been good to have had a rug to put ones feet on on getting out of bed!
The location is perfect! Near Place des Vosges and Rua de Rivoli. It's a new hotel, with very well designed rooms. The rooms are not big, I would say they're ok for Paris standard. WIFI and In Room Video and well as minibar is free. Enjoy!
location and cleanliness of the room (recently renovated) most of the staff were great. one member not helpful on a couple of occasions but generally ok
we had a pleasant time. breakfast is poor.
Location, location, location. You're right in the heart of the Marais, within walking distance of most museums and beside the St Paul metro station. The room was excellent (but Paris size - small) - there's free internet and free international movies and free (non alcoholic) mini bar. I had thought it was going to be in an old Parisian building but it's modern, the reception is tiny and the hotel is expensive, but you can't beat the location.
Excellent service to the point of pre ordered cold wine on arrival late at night plus roses. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Shower and bathroom sparkling. Noise from streets and elsewhere minimal. Outstanding in all respects in a beautiful part of Paris. None
great staffs and fab location would not recommend breakfast
Nice rooms, big bed and quality fittings, with lots of little added extras (wifi, free mini-bar with soft drinks and snacks re-stocked daily) in a great location, for a good price.
the location - it´s in the mere heart of Le Marais. The bathroom was nice, everything new The room was quite small
Very friendly and helpful staff - well designed room.
cool design throughout - immaculate presentation - first class staff
A tranquil location in the centre of Paris. The staff are very patient and friendly and will do everything they can to help make your stay pleasant. Very modern and clean hotel. Nothing
The staff was great and very helpful. The rooms were really really clean!
Could not fault this hotel - friendly, helpful, superior decor. I would definitely stay there again
The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was excelent The room was quite small
Very good sized bath and excellent shower. The location is pefect for explolring Paris but it's quiet too. No problems
nothing. just bed was comfortable. stuff is nice people. and safe hotel brackfast was poor. and expansive
The staff are excellent especially the guy who is on at nights. They were happy to phone up restaurants and make reservations in French, recommend areas to go out drinking etc. The beds are unbelievably good - I practically went into a coma, had the best sleep I've had in a long time. Good insulation against street noise. Rooms are a little small but that's Paris for ya, so nothing new there. Wi-fi was free which is cool, it times out every 10-20 minutes which can be annoying if you're in the middle of booking a flight or something. Location is great - doesn't feel touristy at all, but is within 5-10 minute walk of Gare du Lyon and 5 mins from Bastille metro.
Staff, location, cleanliness & comfort of room, A/C
Not much. Location was good Not suited for business-stays. Too much noise and loud guests (party)
Near to centre of city and breakfast was good. Entrance on very narrow pavement and very slow lift also used by cleaning staff.
Close to the train station, not so expensive listed as 3 stars but not at all to that level. There was no internet so had to go late at night to find an internet cafe open.
Convience of hotel to the train. Breakfast too expensive, should have a contiental breakfast with just fruit, cafe, hot cocoa, tea, and pastry for about 5 or 6 euro. On the stay there was a lot of noise in the street below, rooms not sound proof.
The only good thing you could say, was that it was clean and there were no bugs. The bedding was shabby and worn. It was almost impossible to use the shower. No place in the very small shower to pur the soaps, and too small to bend down to get them from the floor. They had no Ice, and you had to get soda and water from a machine in the lobby.Breakfast was a rip off. There was no help with the luggage. You were afraid to venture out after dark, it was a very bad neighborhood.
It was on a small side street (almost an alley) and was _very_ quiet, yet it was very convenient to the Gare de Lyon. Full bath was a big plus. Well, pink (the color of the room) isn't my favorite color :) and internet access would have been nice.
the ease of access to Gare de Lyon station loud - not sound proof at all
It was centrally locted close to Gare de Lyon and was good value for money in a city like Paris. Nothing
Friendly staff who were helpful regarding travel details and airport transportation. It is simple and clean. The room was small.
I liked the comfort of the bedroom as well as the bathroom facilities. Very well insulated place. The breakfast was ok. I wouldn't go as far as not liking it but, when I arrived at almost 3 pm the bedroom was not ready yet although it was supposed to be ready for 2 pm. Not a big deal though.
The location was perfect. It wasnt the cleanest hotel in the world but I've stayed in worse.
Breakfast. And the night guard was not at all as bad as the other comments suggest...
Proximity to metro and TGV. Good restaurants near by. Good Breakfast. Quiet Street. No. We were very happy with everything. Thank you.
A very comfortable bed, an immaculately clean bathroom, and friendly staff The rooms are very small, with the very minimum of furniture
friendly staff, good location although it was difficult to find where it is in the first place room was smaller than expected and looked different from the picture
Is handy for Gare de Lyon station (5mins walk away) and the Bercy stadium (about 20mins walk away). Hotel Manager was very helpful. The hotel is in a side street and there are no facilities nearby. No coffee/tea making facilities available & no restaurant - cold drinks machine wasn't working either.Breakfast is not full English as described-it's rolls, cheese, yoghurt, cereal and there is no airport shuttle service as advertised-you have a 5 minute walk to the Gare de Lyon station for this which with bags is a bit of a treck.Paris is expensive full stop and so I guess it's a case of getting what you pay for.The standard of this hotel is really no better than a budget Travelodge in the UK.The rooms are small and dark but clean. The lift makes a clanging noise whenever it's used.I was only with my sister thank goodness as it's not the place to stay if you want romance!
Friendly and helpful staff at front desk I found the heating a little too excessive in the room
Good location with transport and close to the centre Concierge at the night was not very helpful.
The day time reception staff where friendly and helpful. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, the rooms are very small, the location is close to the station but the street to get to the hotel is undesirable. The night receptionist was rude, unfriendly and made no effort to make you feel welcome. The worst hotel I stayed at in Europe.
Clean and comfortable Very small corridors and lift. Ghastly red/orange decor. Hard to find. ! We arrived in the middle of the night in pouring rain expecting to find the hotel more or less at the station. Nobody we asked had heard of it, nobody knew where the (tiny but important-sounding) Rue d'Austerlitz was, and I suggest you include directions when booking there for future travellers.
I think the best is its location due to is really closer to Gare de Lyon & internet connection
Our room was small with a low ceiling . The fact that we have to pay for internet wireless a very high prize . I expected it to be a free standard service.
proximity to metro stations and Paris nightlife; air-conditioning rooms are not soundproof
hotel room was not clean when we arrived, very expensive for what it is
The reception staff were very helpful with directions. The location of the hotel. Smallish dark room (but we were given another when we complained)
Friendly Staff. Good location. Excessive heat in the rooms. Bathtub had not a full size separation screen so it was difficult not to fill everything with water.
Location was excellent! On good Metro lines, steps away from restaurants, le Marais, other attractsions. Very clean. Room was small but efficient. Hallways and stairs are made for skinny people. Everything worked, but I would like to have had a chair with a back on it, rather than a hassock to squat on at the desk. Poor wifi, like so many hotels. Hotel had power outage in the middle of the night and no one from reception told guests what to do. Reception did not answer the phone for what seemed like an eternity. Power was out in my room for 45 minutes late on a Saturday night. My room, hallway and stairs were completely dark. I assumed the rest of the hotel was out, too. Only light was a battery-operated sign in hallway pointing to dark, treacherous spiral stairs. After 30 minutes or so, hallway lights went on but not those in my room. Eventually, reception answered my calls and sent someone up to reactivate power. 45 minutes of not knowing what was going on at reception in hotel in the middle of downtown Paris during a time of highest security alert, with ongoing large street protests going on only blocks away! Dangerous and totally unacceptable. Breakfast was satisfactory, nothing special. My magnetic door key got scrambled and I asked reception to reactivate it so I could get into my room. Reception told me not to carry it around with me all day. Maybe I shouid have left it under the door mat? Overworked, undertrained people working the desk.
Friendliness of staff and welcome we received. Room was a little small, though clean and comfortable.
Very good location, clean & nice breakfast. A good hotel for young people and families. A bit noisy, specially if you have active next door neighbours... Woudl not reccomend hotel to elder peaople.
Location, standard of facilities, helpful and friendly staff The first room we were offered was not as good as our rooms in the past (5th stay here) we were moved immediately.
Bed and pillows were so comfortable. Staff friendly.
Convenient to metro and good restaurants. Room tastefully decorated with ample space. Good continental breakfast which is available at an extra cost.
