Beijing Capital Airlines has waived its change and cancellation fees on flights from London Heathrow to Qingdao. Confirm policy on booking site.
China has restricted entry and transit to all travelers except Chinese nationals, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan passport holders, and travelers with diplomatic, service, courtesy or C visas, or visas issued after March 28, 2020.
Travelers arriving at PEK will be given a PCR test and quarantined for 14 days at a designated location in Beijing.
Travelers arriving at Shanghai Pudong (PVG) or Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) must undergo Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) and a 14-day quarantine in designated places for medical observation.

Travelers arriving at Guangzhou (CAN) or Shenzhen (SZX) who live in or have been in France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, or the United States in the past 14 days must undergo 14-day quarantine at home or in designated places for medical observation. All passengers arriving at SZX will have a PCR test.
Travelers arriving at XMN will be quarantined for medical observation at designated hotels for 14 days at their own expense. This does not apply to travelers under 18 years old or above 70 years old, pregnant women, and travelers suffering from illness, who must apply for permission to undergo a 14-day quarantine at home.

Bad communication with the client. They told us when I asked several times that we would not lose our connection and that everything was fine and that was not the case. We lost the connection. No one told us anything. Another problem was that the girl in the boarding process removed the suitcases tickets from the boarding pass and did not want to return them, and held it without any cause. Without that tickets we can not claim the bags. The flight staff went looking for us. Pretty sad and disappointed by their service. I understand that they were causes outside the airline but must communicate to the client. They cannot remain silent and say nothing."

We were 50 minutes late leaving. This resulted in many of us either missing or having extremely tight (stressful) connections at CDG Paris."

After that, I have to go to screening with a long, long, long line of people. I finished at 7:45am, now I have to go to my gate B55, so starting from B18, I was both running and walking fast, asked 2x a staff if there's a faster way, but was told I have to walk through it. I heard overhead paging 3x final calls for my flight. I eventually made it a few minutes before the door closed, but I was really catching my breath when I finally sat on the plane. I hope this won't be experienced by anyone else, as it wasn't a good experience!!!"

However, due to the fact that you missed up three of the passengers information, they couldn't check in yesterday. The whole fight to LA was missed. As a result, we had to pay very high price to buy new tickets for the next available fight in order to complete the trip. I'v made four phone calls with your agent, with all records made. 1) The 1st agent confirmed that the information I provided were all correct for each passengers. So she believed there was nothing wrong and did nothing to help. 2) The 2nd agent realized the information were mixed up. But it was too late to let them check in. 3) The 3rd agent confirmed that the issue were caused by your system. He said only the supervisor could deal with this matter. He gave me a number which is not valid. 4) Finally, the 4th agent said you would contact me. No response by now. Still waiting for the response. Very disappointed after all."

We exited the plane as if we were going to enter the airport from that gate. However, we were guided away from the airport entrance down a set of stairs to board a bus to be transported no more than 200m to a ground level entrance. I wish I was making this stuff up!"

Only after my insistence they issued our original flights and we had to run to catch our original flights. They were not able to put us on different flights or make any changes to our flights schedule. During the waiting time we received no updates. The entire experience was infuriating and baffling because I still do not understand their objections to issuing our tickets. We made the connecting flight according to the original schedule."

While flying China Eastern through Quingdao Liuting International Airport with overnight transit, I knew that airport shuts down overnight and was prepared for it with off the airport hotel reservation and all. But I was surprised at the time of check in at the origination airport (San Francisco) that I would be required to pickup the checked in luggage at Quingdao and check it back in next day for connecting flight to Shanghai. There was a Left Luggage facility at Quingdao Liuting Aurport on second floor departure level, to take away some pain. But more surprise as they charged me for two full days just for overnight service. Argument was that I am leaving the luggage today evening at 7:00pm but will pick 5:30am tomorrow morning thus making two calendar day charges. Staff did not know English but was very nice and helpful. It was very clear that they were policy bound and the money was not going in her pocket. For two pieces it was RMB 80 (20 per piece per day). Fortunate my English to Chinese translator phone app T Mobile One Plan and extra RMBs I had kept hoping to defray such unexpected situations helped a lot to make handling this situation easier. Otherwise I would have been much more dismayed :( But all in all I was impressed by the Airline Crews’ hospitality and Airport staff professionalism :) despite the fact that I don’t they get paid as much as most of their western counterparts. I read that a new Quingdao airport is on the cards in 2019 or so and that can change the situation. So I have mentioned a date at the start of this comment to make sure future readers have a time context too."

There was massive confusion in JFK for the 1st leg of my trip (NYC - Mandalay) regarding the availability of my visa on arrival. China Eastern argued that it was not available, and nearly did not let me board my flight. They were completely wrong, and made my life miserable in the process. Because of this, China Eastern refused to check my luggage through to my final destination (though this has been done many times before), and THEN informed me in Kunming that I needed to pay AGAIN for my extra piece of baggage, though they had already charged me for it in New York. Do yourself a favor and never do business with these creeps - there are too many other available options for air travel."

Cons: "When making the reservations I was never told that there is a 24 hour visa in Beijing, as a matter of fact, the airline changed my return flight for a 25.6 hour lay over in Beijing. When I arrived at the airport, I was told I could not board the plane. I called the airline and was given another flight to Shanghai where I could stay up to 144 hours for another $1600.00. The reservations clerk didn't tell me about the Visa issues even after numerous phone calls. Since the airline is "China Eastern" I would presume they'd know the rules before booking and changing flights violating the rules, unless that's the scam to get people to pay even more for their flights."

I've flown to Asia 25+ times and have never seen behavior like this on a flight, nor have I seen such an incompetent flight crew."

Cons: "I was sat in row 31 - the first in economy which was right next to the galley. The attendants spent the best part of the 1st 90 minutes of the flight congregating in the galley and constantly opening and shutting the curtains and opening and shutting doors. They were loud and in a world of their own. Didn't seem like they wanted to have anything to do with the passengers. A glass of water was served after half an hour but for the next hour before they started the food service there was a continual stream of passengers coming up to the galley asking for more water. The attendants from business/first were also constantly coming back and forth to this galley so it was noisy, busy and frustrating to be sitting right next to it all. Lord knows what was in the cupboard in front of seat 31 but the crew must have opened and closed it at least 30-40 times during the flight and each and every time they let the door swing right back and hit me in the knee. Frustrating? I'll say so! Entertainment - well, there was a fixed screen above me but it was a fragmented video - think trailers at the movies - except it was moving from one shot to the next at such speed, I couldn't catch half of the sub-titles. It would have been an ideal time to close my eyes and catch a few zzzz's but for the darned noise in the galley :("

Poor communication from the airline or airport employees resulted in a confusing and stressful 12 hours... A simple handout explaining how the free hotel thing worked would be very helpful. (The hotel they put us up at was actually pretty nice!) Despite the generally pleasant flight experience, we will be avoiding China Eastern and transiting in Shanghai in the future."

Additionally, our flight from Beijing to Vancouver, BC was delayed by 8 hours. None of the gate or airport agents could tell us why or provide any alternatives to those of us with connecting flights. Not only did they not provide information, one of the gate agents gave us the wrong information (the local time at arrival). We missed our connecting flight and incurred significant expenses (hotel and purchase of 4 additional one way tickets). For the reasons listed above I will never chose air china and strongly urge any listeners/readers to avoid them at all costs!"
