FAQs - booking India flights

  • Are there direct flights to India?

It depends which city you are flying to, but Air India and Virgin Air operate direct flights to New Delhi from London Heathrow (LHR) and British Airways have non-stop flights to Mumbai.

  • Can I carry duty free alcohol into India?

As it is forbidden to consume alcohol in some states in India, visitors who want to enjoy their favourite alcoholic beverage at sundown will be glad to know that if you are a non-resident, it is possible to take up to two litres of duty-free alcohol into the country. You can purchase this at your airport of departure or carry it in hold luggage if it has been purchased before you check in for your flight.

  • Where should I fly to in India if I want to see the Taj Mahal?

If you are going to see the Taj Mahal, you will need to get to the city of Agra. From the UK, it is advisable to book a flight into New Delhi and then arrange to take public transport from New Delhi to Agra.

  • I am only going to visit Goa, what is the best airport to use?

Goa has an airport that operates international flights during peak tourist times. However, as the airport is set up to receive mainly domestic flights, it might be more practical to fly into Mumbai and catch one of the many connecting flights to Goa.

  • Can I fly indirectly to India at a better rate?

You can find cheap flights to India that stop over for plane changes out of most UK airports. These indirect flights often offer better value for money, particularly those that make two stopovers. You'll land at New Delhi Airport (DEL).

  • Are there airlines flying to India that produce less CO2?

  • Are child seats mandatory in India?

India has no laws mandating that young children need to travel in child seats, but it's a very good idea to hire one as a bookable extra if you're going to be driving around one of the larger cities like New Delhi or Mumbai. India's traffic conditions can be hectic, so you can expect to have to make sudden stops quite often. It pays to make sure your children are safely restrained. You can book these at the airport car hire desks through KAYAK.

Lounge was top notch h with great variety of food and drinks. Cabin crew were great. Smooth flight.

My seat 3G did not go down fully and the buttons were not working properly

Food was the worst I’ve had on a VA flight. Normally it’s a lot better

These are one of the older seat arrangements facing away from the windows! Not particularly convenient sets. No storage spaces. NO COAT HANGING HOOKS. Inconvenient business class seat compared to any other airlines of similar class. Staff are excellent! Extremely professional, friendly. Food is good too.

Food was excellent. Service was very good. Staff was very helpful to all passengers.

I did not fly by vergin atlantic from bangalore to vasco da gama

Your flight delayed at Heathrow n I almost missed my mother funeral.you idiots. I had to waste 10 hours in different airports. Thank your stars I'm not suing you.

Everything about the flight was amazing from check in to boarding entertainment was okay food we didn’t try.

The Virgin Atlantic crew was very good. However, the equipment was OK, the seats were OK, but her bags did not arrive with me. Two bags showed up a day later and I’m still waiting for my third back.

Hi vergin Atlantic service was good but the flight ticket agent travel up charge me extra 57 pounds as a airport charges, actually I refuse to pay but they say if I not pay £57 then they say you will not be able to travel from Heathrow to goa ,so for me there was no option and it was just 3 day before my departure so i paid, so please look in to the matter. And I have a receipt of £ 57 as well .thanks

They lost the baggage and said it was deleted from the system. I had baggage tag so was able to file the complaint but there was no PIR number and update so far

Good service. But on flight to Kochi no entertainment except in app. And no working outlets to charge phone.

Was so disappointing. Business class with no TV, uncomfortable seats. Had much higher expectations.

This flight was a dreamliner so I think the space was ok for the legs, but the option for food was again limited and the crew was same.

Boarding was efficient, had to check in cabin luggage. Seats were narrow, food was more in quantity, received cabin luggage on the luggage belt which was fine.

Needs better seat for business class. My seat was falling apart. Also no WiFi on that flight

Only 1 time food and drinks together was offered, for total 5 hours duration drinks and snacks was never offered. For some people food choice was not available, only veg was available. No entertainment option was there. Crew members were mostly back of the flight asking each other for KitKat and chips to share between them.

Etihad flight sector is a local . .give the same quality upto destination

Lovely crew - comfortable journey despite it being an older plane.

Ripped off and broken seats in Business class. Seats stink and need to request the staff for additional bedsheets. Crew if very friendly though

Flight was short but turbulent giving uneasy feeling :( ; although views were mesmerising ;)

Flight boarding experience with journey was smooth; can describe it as a less to minimal turbulent flight!

No food/drinks included for BOM to BKK I paid 675£ for LHR-BOM-BKK (return) flight.

Just fly from point a to b. rest holds zero stars. And with zero competition, what do you expcect

Flight was delayed and due to this we almost miss the connection flight

The flight was delayed by 3 hours, causing me to miss my connecting international flight. I then had to wait in the airport 18 hours for the next flight. The reason for the delay was a computer issue, not something outside of their control like weather. To add insult to injury, instead of trying to expedite the flight to make up for lost time, they ran a carry-on baggage check to verify every bag onboard belonged to someone on the plane, which took another 20 minutes.

झूठा है इंडिगो फ्लाइट में मील दिया नहीं जब शिकायत किया तो बोला आपको मिल चुका है

It took a lot of time to declare that the flight gonna be cancelled ☹️ very disappointed.

Electronic check in is must these days. Food could be better.

They denied my meal which was included in ticket and also damaged my bag completely and broke the wheel and still not accepting their fault

The plane was so old, it needs to be retired! The windows were rattling we paid for premier economy and there was no footrest. Video console was so old, barely had any games for kids. Video console is very slow to react. The gaming console was broken. The foldable food table was sticky and the air hostess had a rough time opening it and closing it for us!!

Generally okay. Disappointing compared to some of their competitors. My seat hadn’t been cleaned properly which was upsetting

The map feature on the display at the seat had challenges. The biggest issue was the flight had no WIFI. Most of the smaller planes now have free WIFI. American Airlines on the flight over had WIFI you could purchase. With 8-10 hours on a single flight, the ability to do work via WIFI is essential!!

The business class seating arrangement for LHR to MAA was very uncomfortable. The movie options were terrible.

Even in business class, no 2 members of our family including kids were able to sit together. I booked the tickets months in advance. The all my luggage was left in London and arrived 2 days later. It took hours to report the missing luggage at the airport and 3-4 hours to recover one of the bags from the airport with mind bending amount of paperwork. Worst experience ever, I would seriously reconsider traveling by British Airways again.

Overall, the food and entertainment were great. The staff were amazing, polite and professional. They did not have WiFi on board on this leg but that was okay. There was a delay in boarding from London and landing at Mumbai airport but the pilot communicate DC the reason for the delayed landing. They even sent us an apology afterwards for the delayed landing.

Experience with British Airways was hopeless and the response from ground staff after flight cancellation was hopeless

Nice experience. Baggage arrival in Mumbai wasn't that quick and needs improvement.

Need a do not disturb sign if you wish not to have any meals so that they can wake you or have the meals served . Left very sad and hungry .

Luggage handling an response received on lost Luggage, was pathetic

When landing in Hyderabad, the pilot made a hard landing. Everyone in the plane were shocked. The captain landed the plane hard and felt as if we were going to be thrown out from our seats. It was surprising the captain didn't apologize or make an announcement about. Again a surprise no crew acknowledge this. This was an odd experience!

I appreciated a meal on the shorter flight. It was slightly delayed with no announcement but I was able to determine what was happening.

Very comfortable flight. I appreciate the announcements were also in English.

I don't think there were entertainment options (short flight) - which is why I gave the 'ok' sign. Didn't make a diff in my flight experience either way, however

Aircraft condition poor, no inflight entertainment, broken seats, seats worn, split armrests, flat seat cushions and seat would recline. Aircraft needs refitting completely!

The crew on the flight was great and the food was good. The flight was on time and in fact arrived earlier than scheduled. The boarding process however was not great. I had a business class ticket but I had to stand in line for about 20 minutes at the gate before I could board. The bottleneck is that at the gate they check the boarding pass and passport all over again and there is no separate lane for business class and there were only 1 agent. The aircraft is very old . The entertainment system is antiquated and the programming is sub par.

I did not expect from Tata group like this worst experience food is too worst

Things have improved still cleanliness of aircraft and maintenance of flights, still needs attention. Crew members have become more welcoming, which is indeed a welcomed change.

Chaotic/Crowded check in. Delayed departure from LHR, resulting in a very delayed Dinner service. Since takeover by the TATAs, Air-India has become Uber commercial and not in a good way, but more like Ryanair. Most seats are now sold and at too high prices (£24 add on for a single windows seat). The promised transformation into a better (clean), efficient and professional airline is nowhere in sight ☹️ Thanks

Horrible flight conditions. Entertainment system not working. Charging points not working.
